1 As I am writing this, we are finally first in the eastern conference, do we deserve this spot? Seems that way to me. It looks like we've got a deeper roster than anyone else in the conference so it's hard to say no. 2 Who do you is our rival this season? I'm going with mississagua. I agree. We're in the same province after all. Plus we're the top two teams 3 In your opinion are we doing better or worst then last season? Worse, I think - but it's hard to match what the Lynx did last season. 122 points and a cup is an insane result. The funny thing is I think we could be worse that we could be worse than we were last season and still win both the Founder's Cup and the Prime Minister's Cup. That's how good Ottawa was in S80. 4 top scorer predictions: who do you think at the end of the regular season will win the top scorer award? That's a tough one. I'm going to go with Vasile Lamb - he's got the benefit of comfortably being the scorer on a solid Mississauga team, while his opponents in the points/goals race are all on teams like Houston, Ottawa, and Las Vegas where the scoring is spread out more. Not to mention he's already capped at 200 TPA, when a lot of his competition isn't. 5 recently me and @16z talked about what we put on our pizza, now you reply to the question, waht do you guys put on your pizza? I do like a simple margherita pizza - just tomato, mozzarella, and basil. I think peppers are great too, I really like jalapenos on pizza personally. And obviously you can't go wrong with pepperoni. 6 always pizza related, does pinapple belongs to pizza? (you better give the right answer, I am italian) Definitely not. I won't begrudge anyone who likes it but to me it just doesn't belong.

I think that's fair, honestly. I got a bit of that impression when I was first reading it but I think maybe that's just because the translation was a bit awkward. IMO it got better as it went on.

From my memory, I recall it took a little bit to pick up since there’s a lot of lore/background information being brought in fairly quickly (at least this is what I remember, I could be wrong). Was that your problem? Once I got a grasp on the background it was a bit easier for me, I think. Although it’s fine if you just didn’t like it, haha.

Currently reading Death's End by Liu Cixin (translated by Ken Liu) - Third book of the Rememberance of Earth's Past (akaThree-Body Problem) trilogy. I'm enjoying it so far, it's a slightly different format to the first two, which I kind of enjoy to be honest since there are chapters interspersed from a different perspective that provides more context for what you're reading. There are some parts that can feel a little awkward but I think a part of that comes from the fact that it's translated from Chinese to English. All in all it's a really interest approach to sci-fi that I like a lot. Last three (or four?) books read The Dark Forest by Liu Cixin (translated by Joel Martinsen) - Second book. I think this is my favorite of the series thus far? Not sure though. Goes in a really interesting direction from on the first novel ends up. Some parts can feel a bit odd but at the same time I think there's a good combination of plot intrigue and new concepts introduced in a way that isn't quite as clunky as the first book. The Three-Body Problem by Liu Cixin (translated by Ken Liu) - Beginning of the series. I enjoyed this one too, but it's a mixed bag in some parts. I really enjoy the historical aspect of this novel, as it partially takes place during the Cultural Revolution in China and also includes a lot of footnotes which describe the aspects of Chinese culture/history that are brought up without explanation in the original book. But at the same time there's a lot of more detailed scientific parts that can feel a bit dry as I don't think I've read hard sci-fi before. But obviously it still kept me interested enough to keep reading. Dune: Messiah by Frank Herbert - I believe this was the last book I read before that? I really enjoyed what I've read of the Dune series. I unfortunately fell off from it after starting Children of Dune (the one right after this) but this one I enjoy quite a bit. I really, really like the twist that this adds to the plot of the original Dune. I'm hesitant to discuss any of it for the sake anyone who may be considering reading the books and doesn't want to be spoiled, but I will just say that I honestly hope this is adapted as part three of the movie series because I think it's really important to the intent/themes of the books. The only other book that I believe I could've read third was Black Skin, White Masks by Frantz Fanon, but I believe I read Messiah after it? I legitimately cannot remember, it's been months. Kinda fell off of reading for a bit there. Either way this is a really important and interesting book that I read a part of for a philosophy class in college, and is takes a good look at racism and colonialism from a philosophical and psychological perspective. Up next Notes from Underground by Fyodor Dostoevsky - Was browsing the library after grabbing Death's End and picked this up on a whim since the description seemed interesting. Check back with me in a month and I'll let you know if I actually read it or not lol.

VHL: Vancouver (Malmo 2nd) (although Malmo/DC/Prague are a bit too similar in style imo) VHLE: Bratislava (Stockholm 2nd) (obv I have a connection to Vasteras but wouldn't truly know where to put it) VHLM: Miami (Ottawa 2nd) -
1. The first week of the season is underway and we have had a lot of new recruits join the site, what's one thing you would recommend to them or another player still learning the ropes? Don't worry too much about trying to earn as much TPE as you can or making the best player right away. There are a lot of people and guides that can help you with that. The strength of this league is the community, so just enjoy that through the forum and the discord. Also, learning about the league, the teams, and the players is really fun when you first join. If it's your kind of thing, feel free to check out the PTs other people make - especially the articles and the podcasts. 2. Ottawa has a holiday charity event coming up and we need ideas to draw in a crowd to raise the most money possible, any ideas? We're winning a lot of games and playing well so we could probably just do something hockey related. Maybe a public skills competition with Lynx players participating and all proceeds from attendance going to charity? Plus you could probably do a toy drive in the arena at the same time. 3. Did your player win any awards or achieve anything major before making it into the VHLM or If you could win an award now, which would it be? Not many achievements for Dvorak pre-VHLM. I'd really like a Founder's Cup since that's eluded me in the past. I've never been able to get a player into the Triple Gold Club and that's usually the reason. (Maybe it's a Quadruple Gold Club now with the VHLE?) 4. You just scored an insane breakaway goal to win the game for your team (or huge glove save).. What would you throw into the crowd to celebrate and make a fan happy? My helmet. Yeah, it's really important, but I'm sure the equipment team has another one that fits. Plus I'm sure there's a drunk fan that would be happy to wear it, like this guy. 5. If you could add, change or takeaway an attribute/rule in the league.. What would it be? Why?? (funny answers work :p) I know it's ironic coming from someone with a meta build like me, but I'd love to take away scoring and see what happens. 6. What's a talent your player has outside of hockey? Dvorak is an excellent violin player and enjoys composing classical music in his free time.

JUNIOR REVIEW: Milan Dvořák Czech defenseman Milan Dvorak seems to be one of the big question marks surrounding the recently opening Season 82 VHL draft class. On one hand, hee signed on with the Yukon Rush at the trade deadline in Season 80 and was drafted 16th overall by the Ottawa Lynx in the S81 VHLM draft. And he seems to be performing well for Ottawa thus far. But at the same time, he doesn’t seem to be a player with too much of a reputation prior to his decision to cross the pond and enter the VHL system. So what is his background? Dvorak was born in Prague, Czechia, to a working class family. From even a young age, Milan found himself attracted to sports. Hockey in particular caught his eye. But equipment was expensive, so it was a while until he could even make his way onto the ice. He spent a lot of time on local rinks learning how to skate, but if anything it made him even more hungry to play hockey. Finally, at age 14, he was able to convince his parents to save up enough money to buy him some second-hand hockey equipment for his birthday. And that was where everything started to kick into gear. While many other hockey players his age had already been playing for years, Milan hit the ground running right away and didn’t look back. He dedicated himself to practicing as much as he could, wearing his second-hand gear everywhere and spending hours just working on his shot and his puck handling. After playing for a year with some local youth teams in his area, Dvorak caught the attention of scouts from the biggest team in the city - HC Sparta Praha. It would take a lot more convincing to get his parents on board with joining Sparta Praha’s academy. They had wanted him to focus his efforts on school in order to get a good career, but eventually they were persuaded. The fact that someone who had only been playing hockey for a year could even get the attention of a top professional hockey team in Europe was proof of Milan’s raw talent. He’d still be taking classes for the possibility that hockey didn’t work out, but hockey would become the main focus. Dvorak took that opportunity and didn’t look back. Despite his lack of experience and slightly smaller size compared to his teammates, Dvorak’s raw talent and coachability helped him to develop quite quickly. He comfortably slotted into a role as an offensive defenseman. Three more years of work and time spent playing for youth teams passed, and by the age of 18 Dvorak was called up to the Sparta Praha’s senior team. He wasn’t one of the stars of the team by any means, but he did much better than expected for such a young player, finding himself moving back and forth between the second and third defensive pairings for the team as well as a key spot on the powerplay. Which is why it was a shock when, after his first season with the team, Dvorak made the announcement that he would be entering the VHLM. Because of the lack of game tape on him (only one proper season in the Czech Extraliga, no time spent with youth national teams), surely this coming VHLM season will have a big effect on how scouts view Milan Dvorak. Are teams willing to take a flyer on his raw ability? Surely the upcoming VHL and VHLE drafts will give us our answer.

1. With Yukon leaving for the E next season and the draft now concluded, which team do you think could to be our next rival? Mississauga is the closest to us geographically, plus they made some good picks in the recent draft so I think they'd be a good fit as our rival. 2. Any changes to the league you see with less teams? More parity, I'd say. I noticed there were some teams last season that looked like they had very few players (and I think that made it harder for them to sign mid-season creates). I don't think there will be as many clear bottom feeders, and with the cap it's hard to imagine one team just completely dominating the league unless they sign a shit-ton of people. 3. The last team to win back to back Founder's Cups was way back in S47-S48 when Bratislavia was around the first time.. What is the main thing we need to do to? Primarily, just keep updating. A lot of it is down to the sim, so there's only so much you can do outside of earning TPE and having a good enough build to be successful. 4. What kind of player are you? Adjustable or would rather gain chemistry with a certain linemate? (goaltenders can have a favorite defender xD) I would say adjustable. I tried to make the kind of player who will contribute a decent amount on the stat sheet regardless of who he's paired with. 5. If you had a choice to take 3 penalties in 3 different periods or 1 in the last minute, what would you choose? 1 in the last minute. Giving the opposition two more power plays is too many opportunities. 6. What is your favorite thing about the VHL? The community. At this point I've gotten the opportunities to achieve a lot with my players and the thing that keeps me coming back is the people here in the league.

1. Game Seven in the Finals; Who do you think will win the final game? I think it'll be the Lynx. Can't win 'em all, you know? 2. Are you surprised the series even made it to game seven after we fell behind 1-3? (Why or Why not?) Not really. Teams tend to come back from 3-1 a lot in this league. 3. Who is the currently the teams MVP during the Playoffs? Kyosti Karjalainen for sure. We have a couple players who have been really good but 11 goals and 28 points in 15 games is really impressive honestly. 4. Predict the final score of game seven? 5-4. Why, you ask? Uhhhhh no reason in particular, I guess. Just felt like it seemed right. 5. Who do you think scores the game winner? My crystal ball tells my that it is a near certainty that it will be Ottawa's Matty Live, assisted by Finn Davis in the third period. 6. Riddle: What is always in front of you but can’t be seen?? The future? I was going to be really literal and say air but I feel like the more elegant answer that would fit with a riddle would be the future. (ha, I was right)

1. First Round of the Playoffs are behind us; Where you surprised by the four game sweep of the Miami? (Why or Why not?) Wasn't surprised. We are the best and awesome and nobody will stop us. [citation needed] 2. Again a Playoff question; Where you surprised by any of the results in the first round? (Why or Why not?) Not really. Not because they weren't inherently surprising, but because I haven't paid attention to the VHLM in a long time. 3. Ottawa just scored fourteen goals in two games against Minnesota; Are you surprised? (Why or Why not?) No, I'm not. The VHLM has absolutely insane scoring sometimes. I'm assuming Minnesota was a lower seed because I recall Ottawa being good. That's one of the fun parts of the M, the ridiculous stats. Unless you're a goalie, then it sucks. 4. If a groundhog see his shadow means we have six more weeks of winter; So what happens when a hockey player see his shadow? Six more weeks of lazy hockey nicknames ending in -y and -sy. 5. It not groundhog day you idiot but depending on what country you do have an important holiday coming so what one is better? American Thanksgiving or Black Friday? And do you celebrate either of them? American Thanksgiving is alright depending on the way you celebrate it and who you celebrate it with. I have good memories of watching the parade and hanging out with my cousin when I was a kid but nowadays it's not nearly as fun to be honest. 6. Riddle: What does the Turkey eat on Thanksgiving? Stuffing, clearly. (okay now I'm looking at the answer and I'm a bit upset I didn't think of that)
