  1. I think everyone trusts you here. Its up to you how you want to do it.
  2. Any thoughts on the VHL Expansion? What trips do you have planned in the offseason? Does your player have any pregame routines? What's your favourite NHL team? What real player is your player easily compared to?
  3. Thoughts on your season this year? What are your expectations for the next season? Whats your goal? Championship or Personal award? Any thoughts on the VHLM Expansion? What video games do you plan on playing in the offseason?
  4. Before leaving to the training facility I was able to get some words from Rayz Funk today. Funk has expressed his disappointment in his press conference yesterday. "With the number of VHLM GMs that have expressed interest in drafting me I was hoping to have some press show up for questioning. For whatever reason no members of the press showed up and honestly that stings. Especially considering some of the other draftees had the press show up to their conferences." I questioned him on interest from any brands after he put out a call about being unsigned to a company. "I did receive interest from one brand. However with the Sponsors Shield coming up the rosters are frozen. So I'm currently going to sit and wait until after I get drafted and see if I can pull in some big offers." Funk has had a strong showing so far and seems to be headed for an early round entry into the VHLM. If he has a strong showing in the minors he could be looking at entering the VHL after only one year in the VMHL. However he may also want to sit and take an extra year and see if he can lead whatever team lands him to a championship.
  5. Need to practice my editing skills some more. Maybe after the draft...
  6. wait so why not make those usable stats then? that would make a three line league and a real backup goalie viable
  7. I wasn't trying to take away from his anger. I would be upset too if its season after season. I actually like his passion. Looking at some of the previous seasons I can see why he would be so pissed off about the situation. Especially in the VHL. Just seemed over the top at the time. Looking at it again and taking history into account, I totally see why he is so pissed off about the playoff sim.
  8. Its fair to bitch that the better team on paper should win in the playoffs but then whats the point of the sim. If we look at the NHL playoffs this year we can see that the paper doesn't always show who the better team really is when it's crunch time.
  9. Well structured interview. Would love to see this as a weekly thing for the VHL stars or the VHL Hot prospects. I liked that you went to webpages that were the topics that you were talking about.
  10. Very well written piece. Loving the backstory and the focus on the youth life. Good use of your photos. Captions under photos are a good touch
  11. Good job making the word count. I like the referral to the current and past of your player. Not much fluff but a little short on his pre-career.
  12. Good job meeting the word count. Not much filler which is nice. Good photo edits. Quite an enjoyable piece.
  13. With the VHLM Draft coming up in the next month, Rayz Funk has his eyes set on a starting role. "With the recent expansion of the VHLM adding three new teams, I have a good feeling I could end up playing as a starting goaltender in the VHLM." "I have had a couple managers inquire about my experience and skill, I am looking forward to the draft and hoping to see myself picked up early." Funk is a goalie prospect from the Manitoba Midget AAA Hockey League and played on the Brandon Wheat Kings MMAAAHL team. After picking up the league championship in his final midget season, he is looking to add a VHML title to his awards. Funk is currently slated to go in the late third round, but with the expansion teams likely needing to pick up a goalie, we could see Funk go as early as a late 1st rounder. This year was the perfect season for him to become eligible and he will be able to get a good amount of playing time wherever he lands after the draft. If he performs well we could see him stepping up into the VHL sooner rather than later.
  14. 1) Since it's not been too long since you've joined the league, what are thoughts on the league so far as a whole? Everyone in the league has been very nice. The league seems well structured and with the VHLM Expansion it will only get better. 4) What are your aims this upcoming season in the VHLM? I am looking to get drafted in the early rounds. I would hope to be the staring goalie and gain some experience in the professional levels. 6c) If a GM were to make you an offer, what kind of player would they be getting? (If you're currently unaffiliated). The GM would be getting a strong rookie goalie. Small frame but an agile game, looking to develop.
  15. 1. What are your thoughts on the VHLM so far? 2. What is your anticipated role on your team? 3. If you were to compare your current player to an NHL RW, whom would it be? 4. What VHL team are you hoping to get drafted for? 5. With the draft not so far away, when you think you will be picked?
  16. I'm enjoying it quite a lot. The community is quite great and the site is well sorted.
  17. @Beaviss I was watching an old TacTixHD youtube video from October, 2018. He showed it off and it seemed interesting.
  18. Name: Rayz Funk Position: G Height: 6’0” Weight: 165 lbs. Birthplace: Manitoba, Canada Rayz Funk is a small framed goaltender looking for his shot at professional hockey. Rayz Funk was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to his father Raya and his mother Aila. Rayz was raised in Steinbach for most of his life. Growing up on a dairy farm, he performed chores around the farm learning from his dad. His brothers who are twins, were both two years older than him. They both were drafted into the WHL Brandon Wheat Kings. His brothers were defencemen and played as a tandem most of their life. His father Raya was a defenceman and played high school hockey in Steinbach. Rayz live a mainly middle-class life thanks to his father’s success in farming and his mothers success as an electrical engineer. Rayz was always able to play the sports he wanted and was an all around athlete most of his early life. Early Years Rayz was put into skates around the time he turned four years old. His father Raya had a stick in his hand by age five. Rayz started off his career as a defenceman. At age eight he already showed an uncanny confidence on the ice. He was not afraid to step in front of a shot and block it. At age nine, his team did not have a goalie and he was asked to step in for the season. At this time, it all clicked. Rayz was instantly a good goalie and would continue playing goalie in the seasons to come. At the age of ten, Rayz was age advanced and played Minor Peewee AA. Playing at the older groups gave him more experience as these teams tended to be weaker in his area. Playing on his older brother’s team, he had a difficult time getting respect. On top of this, his team played a very physical style of game. This led to a rough couple of years in which he was constantly dealing with a lack of defensive skill outside of the first line. On top of this his teams struggles defensively, they were always taking a ridiculous amount of penalties. This has resulted in him getting peppered game in and game out. This created his ability to absorb the puck and avoid giving the other teams a chance to thrash him with another shot. This caused Rayz to develop an aggressive mentality towards his teammates. He would get mad after the second or third goal if he felt the defence wasn’t doing their job. Rayz would to take some penalties clearing the front of his net. He was ejected on two occasions over the two years after punching opposing forwards who were crashing the net and jabbing at him. This caused him to not be afraid to go after an opposition player he feels ran him or was overly annoying. This aggressiveness continued in his career and still exists in his play today. Middle Years Rayz played baseball as a catcher at the AAA level within Manitoba. His aggression that was developed from hockey showed within his baseball career as well. As a catcher he had was known for chirping batters while they came up to the batter’s box. He would call for his pitcher to hit batters he didn’t like as well. When he was baserunning, he was known for sliding hard into bags aiming to take out players as well as interfering in the infielders throws. At age 12 while playing Bantam AAA, he was invited to the Directors Cup. This tournament was invite only and was a pre-camp for WHL scouts watching for the next years draft. But tragedy struck Rayz during this tournament. Rayz was run over by an opposing defenceman, his leg snapped in two and tore his ACL and MCL. Rayz underwent surgery and was forced to sit out the next year and play back-up the year after. Now turning 15, Rayz went undrafted in the WHL draft due to injury concerns. Teens Going into his high school years Rayz was pissed off and had a decision to make. His father needed him on the farm, but he would need to give up on baseball or hockey. He loved playing as a catcher in baseball, but he still couldn’t give up on his dream to play professional hockey. Upon deciding he would continue in hockey, Rayz was given a tryout for the Brandon Wheat Kings MMAAAHL. He secured himself a spot on the roster but would have to fight for the starting spot. Early in the season he got a bit of karma back his way. His competition on his team got hurt and knocked out for the rest of the year. Rayz has a solid year as a 15-year-old. After his partner got hurt, Rayz finished off the last 30 games in the regular season. Finishing 20-8-2. Carrying his team to the playoffs, they made it to the semi-finals. Rayz finished the playoffs with a 3-3-1 record with a 3.57 GAA and a 917% SV%. In his 16-year-old season he was established as the starting goalie. Playing 44/48 regular season games. With a 39-3-2 record and a 2.52 GAA and a 929% SV%. They got swept in the finals after sweeping the quarters and the semis. Rayz recorded a 2.19GAA and a 935% SV% in nine games. This last year, Rayz played 40/48 games, giving him a break before playoffs due to an injury. Finishing with a 34-4-2 record and a 2.33GAA and a 935% SV%. His backup lost two games before Rayz came back and won 9 straight games. Recording a 2.26GAA and a 931% SV%. With back to back appearances the VHLM scouts came to watch him win the MMAAAHL league. Future Rayz will be looking to become a solid backup goaltender this upcoming VHLM season. He lacks experience at the professional level. However, with the VLHM Expansion, the addition of three new teams could see Rayz land a starting role in his draft year. If he fails to make a team, his sights would fall on the MMJHL or he would look at applying to Colleges in the USA for a Degree in Agriculture. He will seek out his Degree in Agriculture either after his career ends or if he fails to get drafted in the next two years.
  19. Name: Rayz Funk Position: G Current Team: Undrafted Age: 18 Height: 6’0” Weight: 165 lbs. Birthplace: Manitoba, Canada Scout Notes (Brief) Funk is looking to make his debut at the professional level this year. A veteran goalie of the MAAAHL, Funk has a history of being middle of the pack. A broken leg kept him out of the WHL draft and resulted in him continuing in AAA. Funk was the starting goalie for the Brandon Wheat Kings Midget AAA team for the past three season and won the Manitoba AAA Midget championship this season. Funks smaller frame is compared to that of Bernier, Raanta and Dell of the NHL. Despite this small frame Funk has seen success due to his quickness in between the pipes. Funk will be looking to become a solid backup goaltender this upcoming VHLM season. He lacks experience at the professional level. However, with the VLHM Expansion, the addition of three new teams could see Funk land a starting role in his draft year. Scouting Report Strengths Rebound Control – Funk has grown up on teams that rely on physicality and more bone-headed tactics. This has resulted in him getting peppered game in and game out. He has developed a strong ability to absorb the puck and avoid giving the other teams a chance to thrash him with another shot. As with most goalies, this is especially noticeable on the penalty kill. He had killer seasons with his team averaging upwards of 85% PK% on a team that averaged 10+ penalty minutes per game. Glove Hand – Funk was a Baseball catcher until he was 15. This made him very strong on his glove hand. He prefers to take shots glove side, sometimes to the detriment of his positioning in the goal. He is quite flashy and enjoys rubbing it in opponents face when he gets a good snag. Reaction Time – All goalies need a strong reaction time, Funk has this down pat. Shots from the blueline have little chance to beat him. Funk is quik on redirects and manages to get a piece of it a lot of the time. Having a strong reaction time has allowed his small frame to work in spite of that fact. Gets across the net quickly and has a strong five hole. Weaknesses Skating – Funk seems to forget that this exists. Not uncommon for a goalie but this is pretty extreme. Lacking any pace when exiting the ice for delayed penalties. This may come from a lack of experience with this happening. Leadership – Even at the MAAAHL level, Funk lacks experience with leadership. Relationships within his teams have always been strained. Funk could be a leader with time but has generally been left out to dry on his own, leading to him trying to play on his own. Hot Headed – Funk is a bit of a hot head. He rends to get mad after the second or third goal if he feels the defence isn’t doing their job. Tends to take some penalties clearing the front of his net. He is not afraid to go after an opposition player he feels ran him or was overly annoying. He will need to learn to keep his cool at the professional level.
