Greg_Di got a reaction from Phil in San Diego Marlins Press Conference
    1. What did it feel like experiencing the VHLM Draft? Do you feel like you went where expected? Higher? Lower?

It was a great experience, I definitely went higher then I expected. Most fantasy drafts had me in the 3rd round.

    2. What are your expectations for the Marlins first ever season in the league?

I am hoping that our team makes the playoffs in our inaugural season. I think we have the talent to do it!

    3. Who do you think had the best draft?

Not to be biased but I do think our team had the best draft. GM did a great job putting together a very solid team. We are solid in every position

    4. Which team do you think will be the Marlins biggest season rivals?

I think it will be Vegas just based on location. Going to be some tough games against them

    5. How do you think your player will do on the team?

I think he will do pretty well as a rookie. He still has a lot to learn but I think he is going in the right direction!

    6. Who do you think the Marlins "top player" will be? You? Someone else?

We have a solid team and we all have to work together to win games. There is definitely a few standout players but in the end, in order to win we have to play with a team mentality

Greg_Di reacted to Rayzor_7 in VSN - S66 Expansion Teams' Draft Recap
With the S66 draft in the books, we go back and take a look at what the who the expansion teams took and what they look like going into free agency.

    Mexico City Kings

    1st Round - 2nd Overall: RW - Aleksander Rodriguez
    1st Round – 9th Overall: G - Wrike Chyrnoble
    2nd Round – 16th Overall: D - Guillaume Fontenette
    3rd Round – 29th Overall: D - Hiromu Takahashi
    3rd Round – 31st Overall: D - Derek England
    5th Round – 53rd Overall: C - Eeli Harju
    8th Round – 86th Overall: D - Codrick Past (Ineligble)

Mexico had a strong draft by securing five picks in the first three rounds. Mexico currently sits with three 100 TPE+ players who will be their key performers for this season.
They selected right winger Aleksander Rodriguez, who will be a strong player and will cap before the season starts. With the ninth pick they take the third goalie in the draft Wrike Chynoble. He will likely only last one season but could be enough to make them contenders. With the sixteenth pick, Mexico took Guillaume Fontenette, a strong playmaking defenceman.

    Mississauga Hounds

    1st Round – 3rd Overall: G - Rayz Funk
    2nd Round – 22nd Overall: D - Hulk Hogan
    3rd Round – 33rd Overall: LW - Cody Smith
    4th Round – 36th Overall: C - Dan Gles
    5th Round – 55th Overall: LW - Chett Bandy
    6th Round – 66th Overall: C - Scott Greene
    7th Round – 77th Overall: D - Khalabib Stiopic
    8th Round – 88th Overall: LW - Richard Tremblay
Mississauga had a lacklustre draft. They will be looking to make a splash in the upcoming free agency. They made some noise when they moved up to third overall, giving up a 2nd and a 4th to do so.
With the third overall pick they took Rayz Funk, the first goalie of four selected in the first round. He will be the cornerstone that Mississauga builds a team around this season. With the twenty-second pick, Mississauga took Hulk Hogan. This was higher than expected for a sub 100 TPE player in a deep draft. With the thirty third overall pick, Mississauga picked Cody Smith who slipped farther than he should have, considering he is a 135 TPE+ player. Cody Smith was a steal for Mississauga this late in the draft.

    San Diego Marlins

    1st Round – 5th Overall: C - Phil Marleau
    1st Round – 10th Overall: LW - Edgar Tannahill
    2nd Round – 15th Overall: G - Greg Eagles
    2nd Round – 21st Overall: D - Samuel Sparrow
    3rd Round – 27th Overall: RW - Andrei Mikhailov
    3rd Round – 32nd Overall: D - Dean Clarke
    4th Round – 43rd Overall: LW - David Clarkson
    5th Round – 54th Overall: C - Scotty BigShotty
    6th Round – 65th Overall: LW - Lexington Lewis
    7th Round – 76th Overall: D - Taylor Budwaisor
    8th Round – 87th Overall: C - Ludvig Sederstrom (Ineligible)
San Diego had a strong draft with six picks in the first three rounds. They snagged a first-round pick from Yukon in return for their first round pick next year.
With the fifth overall pick, San Diego picked Phil Marleau. Not much is known about him as his player page is broken. With the tenth overall pick, they selected left wing Edgar Tannahill. He will likely be their strongest player and will be the focus player for them this year. With the fifteenth pick, San Diego selected Greg Eagles. He will be San Diego’s starting goalie this season and possibly next season as well. He is young but is making waves so far.

With the expansion draft and the draft being complete, teams will now turn to trades and free agents to complete lines and fill out the remaining roster spots.
My final ranks for these teams draft picks would be:
    1.       San Diego Marlins
    2.       Mexico City Kings
    3.       Mississauga Hounds

    Greg Eagles

    Hello Readers,

New Sreportski back for another weekly article. Today we will be focusing on the VHLM draft. Our weekly focus, Greg Eagles, was taken in the 2nd round as the 15th overall pick and the 4th goalie to go in the draft. Many scouts had Eagles ranked as one of the top goalie coming out of Europe but Greg was still generally unproven and was not garnishing hardly any interest from VHL or VHLM clubs.

In fact, only three teams in the VHLM held a pre-draft interview with him when he first announced that he was going to play in the VHLM. Those teams were Mississauga, Mexico City and Philedelphia. All three teams would not select Eagles. In an interview with Wroclaw Times after the draft, Eagles jokingly commented “those were apparently not good interviews.”  When San Diego came up on the board, Eagles was not even paying attention and had to be called up twice. " I was shocked my name was called and I just didn't react when it was first called" Eagles said.

InstantRockstar giving an interview on drafting Eagles

"He was one of the better goaltenders in the draft with a huge upside and we wanted to take him a little bit earlier as to not lose a chance at having a great goaltender for our team," said Marlins general manager @InstantRockstar. "We're building an organization from scratch and we wanted a good young goaltender. We have that in Eagles and he will be our starter this season, we have faith in him"

Eagles, a six-foot-one goalie from Wroclaw, Poland has been called a cross between Martin Brodeur and Carey Price because of his laid-back personality off the ice and tenacity under pressure on the ice. In mock draft's he was being taken later in the 3rd round but the Marlins surprised everyone and took him early. " I am grateful for the faith shown in me by the Marlins, I was surprised going so early in the second round but I know the GM made a great choice. They will not regret it"

The Marlins made some other great picks in the draft and should be able to compete this year in the VHLM. Greg's goal is to make the playoffs and he is very confident in the teams ability. " I look at the team that was drafted and there is great potential if we play to our best ability. We have solid 2 lines of forwards and some great defenders on the back end. We are all making history here as we will be the first ever players playing on the Marlins. It is exciting and we have a lot to prove. Our GM did a great job in the draft and we as a team have full faith in him to lead us into a playoff hunt. I can't wait for the pre-season to start!" Eagles said as we wrapped up the interview.

From a hockey analyst review I tend to agree with Eagles, even though the Marlins are a new team, the other teams should not take them lightly. It will be an exciting season in the VHLM and you can count on the Wroclaw Times to be there following every step of Eagles and his new team the San Diego Marlins.

Don't think I have ever known anyone from an opposing team to enter the locker room for a speech Great length, great progression from childhood into where Zoiderberg is now. The only thing that would make this bio even that much greater is if you would have added some pictures. All in all great work and keep it up!

Definitely would have been better with pictures. Have you tried using the [/img] tags? I think maybe a pop of color would have been nice as well but that's just me. Definitely an interesting bio with the early tragedies of Aleksander's siblings. Was also nice to see you listing pro/con but that could have been saved for your rookie profile! All in all great article and a great insight into his background.

VHLM teams preparing for the draft

    Hi Everyone,
New Sreportski back again with another weekly article in the Wroclaw Times as we follow Greg Eagles career in the VHL and VHLM. Today's article will focus on the upcoming VHLM draft, goalie scouting and the 3 top goalie prospects.

In my opinion goalies have always been the hardest position to evaluate and to scout for future potential. All around the world in hockey leagues the highest drafted goalie doesn't always end up being the best one down the road. Each scout and team have their own opinions on what makes a good goalie. Goalies also take the longest to develop then other positional players and hit their peaks much later on. This usually means that teams end up taking goalies late in the draft. The 3 goalies in our article today are hoping to upset those odds and all are hoping to be picked in the first round.

It will be interesting to see this year where the top 3 goalies will land and we have put together some information on them below.

    Wrike Chernobyl

Wrike is expected to be the top drafted goalie in the VHLM draft

Wrike is predicted to be the first goalie taken off the board. Wrike has lightning-quik reflexes, great glove and a never-give-up attitude which is great for such a young goalie. At only 16 years old, he is making waves for himself. If there was one flaw to his game it would be that he is prone to over-correcting and putting himself in awkward situations. He also does not stand out in any one ability as he is average in all abilities across the board. The questions scouts have is will he end up being average throughout his career or will he be able to stand out in a group of great goalies. These bad habits though be easily be fixed with time and as he matures. Chenobyl definitely has the potential to be an elite VHL goaltender but has some more development ahead to reach his full potential. At the time of writing this article, Wrike is the most skilled goalie out of the 3 and has a bright future ahead of him.

    Rayz Funk

Amazing potential and the predicted #2 goalie in the draft

Rayz is another great goalie prospect who has been wowing scouts. The prediction is that Rayz will be the second goalie taken on the board. Rayz is probably the most similar to Eagles as they both have excellent rebound control. Rayz is rated higher to Eagles due to Funk declaring for the draft earlier and having more time to show his skills to the scouts. Rayz does not seem to have a downside to his game as he is solid in all aspects with Rebound control and reaction time being his highest assets. On the downside, he can cost his team with bad penalties which is rare for a goalie. Rayz temper is high and is prone to slashing opposing players when they get in his crease. If Rayz can manage his discipline he may end up being the top goaltender to come out of this draft. Time will tell what the scouts think but we at the Wroclaw Times believe that he will be a great goalie of the future for any team that selects him.

    Greg Eagles

Eagles putting in some work for the scouts

Our main goalie who we are following and a note to our readers that we may be a little bit bias with our Greg Eagles description here but at least we are up front about it! Greg has had a later start then the other 2 goalies as he just recently declared for the draft. Even in his short time he has been making waves around the league by being active and making sure he is showcasing his skills to visiting scouts. His top quality will be his rebound control and skating. He has had a solid junior and college career to date. Our prediction is that he will be the goalie that GM's would regret not taking earlier. He may not be quite there in skill compared to the other 2 goalies but his future potential seems to be the best out of the 3. What the scouts and gm's in the draft have to decide now is do they want skill right away or do they want a goalie that has the potential to be one of the best in a few seasons. For downside, Eagles does need to work on his glove hand but with the determination he has shown early,  you can be assured he will make sure his glove hand is solid.

The draft is to be held next Sunday and we here at Wroclaw Times are excited to see where these young gentleman will go. We will be rooting for Greg and hope he gets drafted high.

Until next time to our loyal readers!

    Scout Notes (Brief)
Son of a former VHL goaltender, Greg Eagles is looking for make his professional start in the VHLM this year. He has played on the National Junior Team for Poland where he led his team to a finals finish. Finishing the tournament with a 1.85 GAA and .924 save % flagged him as a potential elite prospect by scouts from all over the world. His play was the main reason Poland advanced so far in the tournament with a team full of unknown players. With multiple scouts calling, Greg decided that for his future career VHLM would be the best place to start.

Greg Eagles is an exceptionally agile goaltender with an elite level of rebound control who is capable of shutting down the opposition on any given night. Blessed with quik feet and the ability to go from post to post in an instant, Eagles is an outstanding athlete who will not give up any bad rebounds. Eagles has the competitiveness of a starter who wants to play every night and has the ability to create unbelievable saves night in and night out. Eagles utilizes excellent positioning and the ability to recover to his feet quickly, which makes it very hard for the opposition to put a puck past him. The main question regarding Greg is how will he handle better opposition and can he improve his weak glove side? Playing in the Polish Hockey League has not granted him the chance to play against the best and we will have to wait and see if he can carry over his Polish Hockey League play into the VHLM and VHL where the opposition will be much tougher.

    Scouting Report

    Strengths:

Rebound Control – This is his bread and butter. I don't think you can find a goalie at his age with any better rebound control. This guy just knows where to put the puck off a rebound and doesn't give his opponents a good second chance to put the puck into the net. Most shooters are frustrated that once a rebound hits Eagles, they know it won't land on their stick but somewhere off in the corner away from danger. By being able to see the puck very well through traffic and having good reaction, Eagles is able to direct the puck at his will.

Agility – Another Strength for Eagles is his agility. Due to his overall agility and quickness Eagles is very unpredictable. Opposing players do not have an easy time reading him and predicting what he will do so he is able to challenge and react with a high level of success. His post-to-post movement speed is incredible as well as his ability to quickly recover to his feet have left snipers bewildered and confused. Unless it is a perfect play cross crease passing play, it is very hard to put pucks past this goalie.

Skating – In order to have great rebound control and great agility, you need to have very good skating. Eagles has been skating since he was a young child, being trained by his father (former VHL goaltender) and the best skating coaches out of Poland. You will not find a better skating goalie anywhere else in the world. His quik, can turn on a dime, incredible backward skatings and has figure skating training that has helped him become an elite level prospect. Most goalies are not the best skaters but Eagles is out to prove that goalies should take this more seriously.

    Weaknesses:

Leadership – Eagles is definitely lacking in the leadership department. He is very introverted and is always the first to leave the locker room and not engaging in much talk with his team-mates. He is not known to share his opinion or yell out to defenders in key situations which may hamper how his team-mates play in front of him. This has always been an issue for him and there has been very little improvement. We are yet to see if this will hamper where he will get drafted.

Penalty Shot – Eagles while incredible in Rebound Control and Agility has always struggled on the 1v1 penalty shot. Scouts do not yet know why he struggles in this aspect since all his pro's show that he should be good at 1v1's. Many believe it to be his lack of concentration when he is faced on 1v1. He seems to always try to poke check the oncoming opponent instead of relying on his skill to make the save. While not many penalty shots are taken in the professional level, if Eagles wants to become an elite goaltender he needs to work on this aspect of his game

Hand Speed – Another area Eagles needs to work on if his to become an elite goaltender. While his glove is not bad, he does tend to drop a lot of pucks that end up glove side. While he rebound control helps diminish the amount of goals caused by this, he will never reach elite status if this does not improve.
