Hogan has always been a force of nature in the VHL. Whether cracking jokes or spouting random song lyrics in general chat, it is clear that where Hogan is, chaos will ensue. Hulk Hogan, and the incredible legacy he has is a product of this fire, this force that Hogan exudes wherever he goes. A furious earner, a loyal teammate and a major reason for Seattle’s continued success in the 60s and 70s.

    Regular Season
    GP: 72    G: 17    A: 77    P: 94    +/-: 17    SHT: 155    PIM: 118    HIT: 181    SB: 128

Hogan wasted no time getting settled into the VHL. Taking the VHLM by storm, he led D in points-scoring that season, and was tied for 7th in overall point-scoring. He helped lead the Hounds to the playoffs, losing in the first round to eventual finalist Ottawa Lynx. A force offensively and defensively, we knew that Hogan was a star right from the start. Hogan was rewarded with some hardware as well, having accumulated the most assists, and being named the top defenseman.

After a dominant stint in the VHLM, and being drafted 6th overall in the draft, Hogan’s rookie season was slower than the award winning one before, but still rather impressive for a rookie. Brought in to solidify the 2nd pairing, the rebuilding Bears had a rather tumultuous season, ending 18 points out a playoff spot, only gathering 69 (nice) points. But Hogan impressed, immediately getting on the scoreboard, and as the season went on, it was clear that Seattle had landed a diamond, who just needed a bit more time to polish. This was right on Seattle’s timeline, and with a season to squander, they used their time wisely to earn and prepare for the next season.

The concept of a sophomore slump wasn’t even a though in Hulk Hogan’s mind coming into Season 68 with the Bears.  Putting up a cool 60 assists, as the Bears rose into contention. Still on the second pairing, Hogan turned the Bears into a 2-unit team, one that you couldn’t have a good matchup against. Dominating a weak NA conference, Hogan and the Bears dominated the playoffs, only dropping games to their first-round opponents, the Toronto Legion. 10 straight victories to take home the Cup. Hogan played a huge role, even as a second pairing D.

S69 (nice) – Seattle Bears (VHL)

    Regular Season
    GP: 72    G: 5    A: 52    P: 57    +/-: 28    SHT: 54    PIM: 140    HIT: 134    SB: 137

    GP: 19    G: 2    A: 12    P: 14    +/-: -1    SHT: 23    PIM: 40    HIT: 30    SB: 32

After a championship season, it is only reasonable to take a bit of a step back. Losing major pieces in the offseason, Seattle came back to S69 (nice) with an impressive roster despite the losses. There was now another competitive team in the NA Conference, who took the league by storm, leaving the Bears 10 points behind. Hulk Hogan struggled to generate offense off the shot this season but compensated for it with his continued dominant playmaking abilities. Seattle’s path to winning wasn’t as easy this season, as the noted playoff-making Americans managed to bring them to 7, and Vancouver took them to 6 before the finals had even begun. Riga cruised to the finals this season, but in the end, the Bears managed to defend their title, winning in 6. Hogan led his unit effectively, and even scored a game-winner.

    S70 – Seattle Bears (VHL)

    Regular Season
    GP: 72    G: 11    A: 34    P: 45    +/-: -12    SHT: 149    PIM: 127    HIT: 161    SB: 101

    GP: 11    G: 4    A: 10    P: 14    +/-: 4    SHT: 20    PIM: 21    HIT: 12    SB: 20

After more roster turnover, Seattle found themselves skating into a now lethal NA Conference, narrowly making the playoffs by one point. Hogan was once again leading the second unit, albeit a much shallower one than previously. Seattle struggled to score, with none of their players reaching a point-per-game. Hogan did experience some growing pains this season but grew an invaluable talent: goal-scoring. Finally beginning to put up shots, and having them go in, Hogan became a threat from the blue-line and would only grow into this in future seasons. Seattle upset the first-seed Wolves in the first round but found the Wranglers too tough to surpass this season. For once in Hogan’s young career, the Bears could not get him a Cup, despite a more than point-per-game personal effort.

    S71 – Seattle Bears (VHL)

    Regular Season
    GP: 72    G: 8    A: 63    P: 71    +/-: 10    SHT: 162    PIM: 109    HIT: 131    SB: 110
      Playoffs
    GP: 17    G: 0    A: 7    P: 7    +/-: 0    SHT: 32   PIM: 28    HIT: 34    SB: 21

The Bears learned from a “down” season, grabbed some new young talent and once again headed into the season looking for a Cup. Another Cup they would find, but first the league had to witness Hulk Hogan. Leading the league in assists from the second pairing, Seattle used their identity as a 2-unit team to bring themselves 1 game off a conference lead going into the playoffs. They would not need it though, as they won a hard-fought battle against the Dragons before waltzing their way through Vancouver (who must have been getting pretty annoyed at STHS by now), and Moscow, the returning EU champs. Hogan improves to 3 for 5 in winning the Cup and although had a bit of offensive inconsistency in the playoffs, looked primed to dominate again in S72.

    S72 – Seattle Bears (VHL)

    Regular Season
    GP: 72    G: 16    A: 62    P: 78    +/-: 10    SHT: 179    PIM: 114    HIT: 187    SB: 131

    Playoffs
    GP: 5    G: 0    A: 5    P: 5    +/-: 3    SHT: 6    PIM: 14    HIT: 14   SB: 14

Hogan finally put together a point-per-game season, showing the assist generation and the goalscoring on separate occasions, but the force that we know as Hulk Hogan was finally assembled here in S72. Putting up a very respectable 97 points, coming once again second in the NA Conference, this time behind the Wranglers, Seattle put on a bit of an offensive show. Hogan netting 16 alone certainly contributed to this, all the while assisting on another 62. For once Seattle seemed to really struggle in this playoff, losing in 5 to New York? Hogan did what he could, but whatever was in the water in New York worked.

    S73 – Seattle Bears (VHL)

    Regular Season
    GP: 72    G: 24    A: 69 (nice)   P: 93    +/-: 17    SHT: 261    PIM: 94    HIT: 148    SB: 129

    Playoffs
    GP: 19    G: 0    A: 17    P: 17    +/-: -1    SHT: 78    PIM: 26    HIT: 34    SB: 46

At Hulk Hogan’s peak now, and with a measly 3 cups in the bag, he really didn’t have much left to prove. Seattle had dominated in the regular season and the payoffs over the course of Hogan’s career, and folks, it wasn’t over yet. Slamming back a 49-win 103-point season and winning Hogan’s only Victory Cup somehow, another Cup was the only thing these Cup-hungry fiends were thinking. Unsurprisingly, they took out the Dragons, overcame the Wranglers before putting Helsinki out of their misery (or I suppose into their misery) in the finals. 4/7 on cups now in Hogan’s career. One final season for Hogan to come, and enough hardware to make any player in this era cry.

Funnily enough, this was the season I joined the VHL. So as I was looking around, trying to make sense of anything, I looked through the VHL stats and such, and Hulk Hogan was a name that stuck in my head. Not only because it is a memorable name, but because of the important role he played on the reigning champs. 94 points as a defenseman was wild to me, despite other defensemen scoring more. What made it all the more wild was the goalscoring. 26 goals is more than respectable in a forward, but in a D, shooting 9.42% was amazing. Vancouver returned this season, taking top spot in the NA Conference, but it was the Toronto Legion, the only team to take games off of Seattle in 68 that would end Hogan’s career.

I’m always skeptical of players that get into the Hall of Fame because they won a lot of cups. I knew Hulk Hogan was a Cup machine and I also knew he was pretty good, but it wasn’t until I took this deep dive that I understood just why Hulk Hogan was a bona fide Hall of Famer. Hulk Hogan was rarely a top line player. Not because he wasn’t good enough, but because running a second unit, and beating teams through superior depth was the most important thing for the Bears. Many great players played in Seattle alongside Hogan, but very few can be considered just as crucial as Hulk Hogan was. He didn’t win 4 cups in 8 seasons by riding backseat with the stars. Hulk Hogan enabled players to be stars. Hulk Hogan wasn’t in contention for scoring titles often, nor was he the most physical player, and he sure loved to take a penalty. But what Hulk Hogan did was dominate play offensively, defensively and spark his team to be the very best they could be. The Bears were Hulk Hogan, and Hulk Hogan was the Bears.

Even now, Hulk Hogan 2 patrols the blue line for Seattle, picking up right where Hulk Hogan left off. Hogan’s identity has bled so much into what Seattle was, is and will be for seasons to come. He has defined their style of play, their league image and their constant championship contention. With one Cup already under Hulk Hogan 2’s belt, it shall be interesting to see if the second coming will be just as glorious as the first.

I don’t have many personal anecdotes to end off this induction article for Hogan, as I managed to spend a lot of time in the EU Conference, and overall, not in the Seattle Bears sphere of influence, but what I can say about Hogan is that there is never a dull moment when Hogan is around. Definitely a lot of confusion on my end, but I can always appreciate someone willing to just say their thing and rile people up (in a non-hurtful way) and generally that’s how Hogan rolls. We have experienced a lot alongside each other as people who read general chat sometimes, and for that I’m sure there’s some solidarity in there.

Congratulations on a great career Hogan and here’s to a ton more Hogan-ing in the seasons to come!

    1. I think Godlander had an amazing season after coming over! Really underrated piece of a solid lineup!

    2. I'm going back to school and earning a certification, as well as coaching my high school football team (WR/QB), so not really anything too exciting but it pumps me up to get opportunities like that.

    3. My time in Helsinki was really nice and honestly I'd go back there if anywhere else.

    4. I planned to build Pearce into a DFD with passing capabilities and I think I've done a solid job considering my low earnings thus far.

    5. I think the S82 playoff run with Cologne down in the E was a highlight. I had a lot of good games during that run.

    6. I'll likely go back to forward, build another sniper, just like Laine!

    1.  I would say @SlapshotBear has been incredible on and off the ice! @ROOKIE745had the expectations on him and lived up to his hype, so I’ll have to mention them both but the prior will be my pick.

    2. I’m hoping to ramp on my YT content while staying active in the league. I’m enjoying the VHL much more than I did just before I left. It should be an exciting time!

    3. I don’t want to give a short answer so I will mention that playing for the D.C. Dragons would be cool due to my name sake. Honestly though I can’t see myself playing anywhere other than Seattle or D.C. at this moment in time.

    4. I want my goalie to exceed any other goalie in the league in all categories. Most importantly, I want to give my team a chance to win- so far I’ve done neither. My focus is strong and I will reach my goals.

    5. Being signed onto the Houston Bulls as a FA was awesome! I thought I would only play a handful of games (if any due to them having an established netminder already) but I ended up playing 12 games, winning 9 of them with 2 shutouts. He ended the season with a .900 save% which by VHLM standards blow Jimmy Spyro’s numbers away so far. This season, I’m hoping to bring whoever drafts me to the Cup and prove I’m a goalie to be feared when facing.

    6. Since I just recreated, it would be hard to decide honestly. I think if me and @DoktorFunk recreate simultaneously next time around then we would discuss our plans/ positions as a package deal.

Since we need press conference questions, I'll ask a few for DA BEARS:

    1. Who was the most underappreciated player on DA BEARS this past season?

    2. Any special plans this upcoming month? If so, what, and are you excited?

    3. IF you could play for any team other than Seattle, who would you choose?

    4. What type of player were you hoping to build with your current player and have they lived up to your expectations?

    5. What's the best moment of your player's career so far?

    6. What position player are you planning on making next and what style of play will they have?

As the summer draws to a close, it's time to shine the light on 3 fine Hall of Fame inductees.

    D - Battre Sandstrom, S76-S83
    RS: 576 GP, 161 G, 508 A, 669 P, +144, 924 PIM, 1,428 HIT, 1,220 SB, 34 GW
    PO: 71 GP, 16 G, 42 A, 58 P, -4, 150 PIM, 188 HIT, 190 SB, 2 GW

S82 Alexander Beketov Trophy (Most Assists)
S82 Alexander Valiq Trophy (Top Offensive Defenceman)
S83 Sterling Labatte Trophy (Top Defenceman)
    2x All-VHL First Team (S82, S83)
    1x All-VHL Second Team (S81)

The 2nd overall pick of S76 has secured his place as his draft's finest with a well deserved first ballot induction. Sandstrom may have never made the finals, but he was in the playoffs every season of his career, dragging Prague and then Riga to contention as he aged like a fine wine. A slower start as he struggled to break the point-per-game mark for a few seasons could have derailed Sandstrom's career like many promising defencemen before, but he hit another gear halfway through his VHL career and finished his career with 3 straight 100-point seasons and a slew of trophies to secure his place in the Hall. @Acydburn

    D - Roque Davis, S71-S78
    RS: 576 GP, 144 G, 428 A, 572 P, +100, 808 PIM, 1,185 HIT, 1,133 SB, 20 GW
    PO: 52 GP, 16 G, 48 A, 64 P, +18, 173 PIM, 108 HIT, 114 SB, 3 GW

S71 Christian Stolzschweiger Trophy (Top Rookie)
S71 Alexander Valiq Trophy (Top Offensive Defenceman)
S76 Sterling Labatte Trophy (Top Defenceman)
S76 Alexander Valiq Trophy (Top Offensive Defenceman)
S76 Alexander Beketov Trophy (Most Assists)
    2x All-VHL First Team (S71, S76)

Another former 2nd overall pick was on the way out just as Sandstrom entered the league, Davis had to wait longer to join the Hall of Fame, perhaps because his best achievements came before his last few seasons. His offensive stats might pale at face value, but Davis played in a much more defensive era and was probably a more clearly offensive-minded player. His rookie season included a Valiq and very much channelled the spirit of the great Alexander Valiq, as he quarterbacked a fairly lacklustre Davos team. Crowning glory would follow after a move to Moscow to solidify his place amongst the elite defencemen of the era and although he never made the finals either, it was not for a want of trying. @Josh

    Builder Induction
After a season hiatus we also have Builder induction in S84. Some VHL members shine brightly for a brief moment and disappear without a trace, others slowly move through the positions taking in all the league has to offer. But several Builder inductions are very much lifetime achievement awards, recognising the sheer consistency of some members who have carved out a niche over many years of the VHL - and their success is in being an example of the many ways to approach the league. @solas perfectly fits that bill, coming into the VHL back in S20 with his first gen Turd Ferguson, and working his way through the decades with countless players, including the Hall of Famers Theo Axelsson, Lukas Muller, and most recently Jean Pierre Camus. Solas has never held a significant leadership position in the league and yet any of his teammates will confirm he has been an integral part of many a successful locker room, while contributing to a number of key league initiatives, including the long-running VHL Magazine and indeed some Hall of Fame articles. He may operate in the shadows often but today gets the recognition his tenure absolutely deserves!

    Congratulations Josh, Acyd, and Solas!

DoktorFunk reacted to leandrofg in VSN Presents: "Cana-Duh!", a Post S84 World Junior Championship Rambling
The WJC has come and gone. Seems like only a week ago, we were speculating on what this tournament could look like.

Well... I guess we did, but we weren't very good at it, in hindsight.

But just because we weren't good at predicting the outcomes doesn't mean our teams weren't good. These teams were great, so before we start, on behalf of the VSN crew, I'd like to congratulate every intervenient in this tournament.

From our General Managers to our commissioners. A quick nod to @jacobcarson877, @Nykonax, @TMGSosa, @Novanod, @Trunkxolotl, @Ricer13, and @Enorama. Well, also @Dil for some reason.

To the players... not so much. I mean... can't you just make up your mind?

Our predictions didn't pan out because this edition of the World Junior Championship finished as one of the tightest ever.

    1. Team USA, 14 Points.
    2. Team World, 13 Points.
    3. Team Canada, 12 Points.
    4. Team Europe, 11 Points.
    5. Team Asia, 10 Points.

How could this have happened? With a little cycle, I will show you.

It's game 1 of the S84 edition of the WJC. Team USA faces Team World to win a game that ends with a 2-0 result.

It's game 2, and Team Europe is facing Team Canada. The game is a thriller and ends with a 4-2 victory for Team Europe.

We're now in game 4. Team Canada meets Team USA. Both teams have one game in the bag that finished in different ways. It's a gritty game that ends with a 3-1 Team Canada victory.

It's game 5 and Team Europe seems to be on a roll. After the win in game 2, Europe faced Asia in game 3 and won. They're now 2-0 and in 1st place on the standings. That night, they played against Team Asia yet again. This time, Team Asia dug deep and pulled out an unbelievable victory. 4-2 was the result.

We jump to game 9, where Team World is facing Team Asia. Team Asia has a 1-2 record, while Team World is 0-2. If Team World goes down to 0-3, it would be difficult to leave the bottom of the standings going forward, so they don't. It's a battle of defenses, but Team World edges out Team Asia to win 2-1.

At this point, we're not even halfway through the tournament, and every team has beaten once. This is wonderful because this allows us to have a beautiful graphic to accompany this paragraph.

Okay. You got me. There's no graphic, but you get the picture! (Get it!? 😏)

Anyway, it's time to leave the Round Robin stage, right!? Everything continued tight, teams beating each other, and Team Europe couldn't find their groove. So this round finished with the standings shown above.

We want the medal games! That's where the importance of this tournament is.

The first game is the wildcard between the 4th and 5th placed teams. In fact, I wouldn't necessarily call this a game since it was more of a beating.

Team Europe came, Team Europe saw, and Team Europe got to the semifinals. Behind a great game by the usual suspects, Noodles Marconi, Faith Hope Love, and Svatopluk Puk, they dominated the opposition, who came out with little to offer.

And so, they went to the next round, where they found a much more competitive opponent, Team USA. This was a tight game, but early in the 2nd period, Team Europe managed to go up 2-0, and everyone thought the story was being written in real-time. We were wrong. Team USA showed heart, passion, and will. And behind the efforts of Chip Stone, Justin Adolfsen, and Dogwood Maple, they managed to tie with less than 2 minutes remaining. The momentum was with Team USA now, and it showed. Out-shooting Team Europe in OT, Team USA scored, got the win and the ticket to the final.

In the other semifinal, the story was similar to the wildcard game, but the protagonist was Team Canada. Total domination of the game, a great teamwork display, and Cobalt Burns doing his best to get noticed. A beautiful 3-1 victory and a place in the final for Team Canada.

Before writing about the Gold Medal game, let's first mention the Bronze dispute. Team Europe versus Team World. It was closer than expected. Team World had arrived hungry for the win, but the Europeans wouldn't let that slide. After a hard-fought game that finished with a tie, John Jameson, now the 1st-overall pick of the VHLE Draft, ended the game with a little over a minute played in Overtime.

The Final. Everything we came to see. It's a North American battle. More than the title itself, pride is on the line. Team Canada against Team USA.

Team USA started the game better, putting Team Canada under pressure and playing at a high-intensity level. That resulted in Chip Stone opening up the scoreboard with a slap shot after a face-off. Unfortunately for the Americans, their own goal was the turning point of the game for their opponent. The Canadians woke up and slowly started rising their level and matching USA's intensity. After the first intermission, we saw some great hockey being played, and Team Canada took advantage of a powerplay near the end of the period. The extraordinaire Busser, managing to break the USA's lines after a Doug Matchett pass. That 2nd period was all Canada, so the goal was a fair reflection of the game. After the second intermission, both teams seemed somewhat tired, and the intensity wasn't as high. Team Canada scored early and followed up with a second goal, putting the score at a 3-1 that Team USA couldn't contest.

Ultimately, any of these two teams would be a worthy winner of this season's WJC, but only one can win. Team Canada showed heart and effectiveness in their game, which allowed them to succeed.

Now your MVP. I'm guessing the flashy Tyler Busser comes to mind. Or the versatile Doug Matchett. But there's a guy who was a step ahead. Goaltender, DJ Fire Dragon. They played incredibly... there aren't enough adjectives. Take a look at these ridiculous Medal Round stats. 1.00 GAA (Goals Against Average), 0.964 SV% (Save Percentage), and two #2 stars.

Just wanted to say congratulations to Warsaw again! I believe this is the second cup in their franchise's history? It's nice to see so much success from such a young franchise. Me and @DarkSpyro were talking about how we wanted four members of the cup winning team on so we could share our podcast with them, interview them, and bring more spotlight to these players. I'm going to tag you all now.

Even if you don't want to be on, I'd love any comments or even to send you all some questions so that we can get a report on what it was like in the locker room when you won the cup and other fun stuff like that. We could have four of you on at a time, and we don't have a problem getting capped TPE, so you could claim it as long as you're able to spend 2 hours with our dumb asses. 😅 Anyway, congrats again and we hope you enjoy celebrating.

After Friday night’s VHL draft, many in London and in the London fanbase are scratching their heads wondering who on Earth Jesse Teno is exactly. A somewhat decent goalie who put up decent stats on a not-so-decent VHLM team landed themselves the 10th pick slot. So who is Jesse and why should London fans care about them? Well, we’ll tell you.

Jesse Teno, who uses they/them pronouns, was born and raised in the small town of Chester, Vermont and came to hockey late in life. In college they blossomed and found a true passion for the sport. They had never considered playing professionally until the VHLM seemed to call them to it. It seemed a long shot until scouting reports noted the potential that Jesse had. They were drafted 30th overall by the Saskatoon Wild and for the first time, Jesse picked up and moved out of their home state. It was a big step for them personally and professionally. It seemed maybe they could make something out of themselves with hockey.

In Saskatoon, Jesse proved themselves more than capable of handling high pressure situations. Their low win count couldn’t be helped when there was so little front of net presence to help them out. But Jesse enjoyed their time in Saskatoon despite the losing season. They even impressed themselves when they were able to get the Wild into the playoffs and stole a few games from the Las Vegas Aces.
When the season ended, Jesse wondered where they would end up. The off season didn’t see them playing golf, but instead they headed home to reunite with their family for the first time since leaving for Saskatoon. Jesse spent the off season catching up with friends and family, heading out to local favorites, and trained both at the local ice rink and while playing roller hockey. It was an off season of fun and relaxation.

So when the draft came around, the relaxation turned to apprehension. Jesse had heard from multiple teams who had shown interest in drafting them. Though Jesse didn’t necessarily care about how early they would be drafted, part of them still hoped that it would be high. They had worked so hard in the VHLM to gain the skills they had. It was a long day awaiting the broadcast.

The first spot they had been told they were considered had come and gone but Jesse tried to keep faith that things would work out. And when London United had their pick at 10th, Jesse was elated to hear their name called out. It wasn’t a team they had heard from but a team who wanted them nonetheless. Minutes after their drafting, Jesse heard from the DM @Dil and was more than happy to accept a rookie contract on the spot. A few emails and digital signatures later and Jesse was officially a prospect goalie for London.

“I honestly cannot thank everyone who has gotten me here enough. Being drafted to the VHL is really a dream I never thought I would have, let alone achieve.” Jesse commented on Twitter after being drafted. It was then followed up by, “I can’t wait to see what London holds for me in the future. See you all at the VHLE draft!”

With their sights set on the next draft, Jesse is looking forward to once again spreading their proverbial wings by jumping into some metal ones to see what Europe has in store for them.

    - If I’m not mistaken, backup goalies don’t count toward the salary cap (if their salary is like, $3M or lower or something like that).

    - @Brandon @jacobcarson877 Allegedly Spyro purchased Experience but didn’t actually receive the Experience.

    - I’m fully entitled to bash the simmers, they’re all a bunch of shitbirds @Beketov @Josh @Devise @MexicanCow123 Fuck y’all.
