Denver got a reaction from STZ in VHL Headlines
ODE TO THE CHATBOX
by Denver - VHL Headline Writer
Communication is something every sports simulation league needs in order to survive, without a direct line of communication from member to member league activity can seem a little clunky at times more often than not. The VHL has and always will depend on the amount of time members spend on the forums, from posting to updating their activity is what keeps the VHL so great. Without a keen member base and ways to recruit hot or fresh young members to come into the fold, a league like the VHL wouldn’t have been able to withstand over forty seasons. Putting that in retrospect a bit, that’s months of hard work and dedication of the member that span into years of some of the best moments and players the VHL has ever seen. But what really keeps everybody coming back for more? One thing that comes to mind is the sense of community surrounding a certain element encoded in the site’s layout, something you either love or hate about the VHL – if this was any other sport outside of hockey, it would’ve been considered the 12th man as it does many wonders in keeping things fresh and exciting That’s the VHL’s very own chat box – now I know what you’re thinking, why the chat box? Well it’s the allure it has had on the league as a whole. As a chat box it serves as a direct connection to other members, from agents to general managers you can instantly connect and have a conversation with someone on the fly (but that’s basic logic, logic that doesn’t really seem to adapt well in e-sports as a whole.) It’s hard to say why, but the most successful leagues all have in common some sort of communication outside of the usual suspects of private messaging and posting up either a poll or a thread.
Judging from personal experience, in a very short career surrounded by a good group of guys I often felt that's the one thing that many of my previous leauges were missing. Thinking back, having something collapsed against your browser where you could see whose online could’ve been viable knowing that you wanted or needed to your point across lighting quick. Something as simple as wanting to know something or relaying info about a trade or discussing a player’s direction could’ve happened instantaneously . Even when you’re trying to discuss your displeasure, it makes total sense to make sure everybody around the table knows what’s going on. Looking back on the last few weeks of the USFL, I often feel as if with a chat box I wouldn’t have taken frustrations out in the locker room thread. Not that it was too much of an issue, but a disagreement is a disagreement and sometimes they’re better avoided for the sake of the team. But that’s another story for another day.
Through VHL’s apparent blackout of the chat box, I come to realize that the chat box is one of few things that should be considered the lifeblood of the league. Without the chat box, I doubt as many people would communicate outside of actual threads and locker room scenarios. That’s why I deeply respect the VHL for having something so simple as a chat box, if it hadn’t been for the chat box and certain members approaching me I don’t think I would’ve stuck around past the season 40 Draft. So here’s me giving a round of applause for the chat box returning, I doubt the site would be as fun or interesting screenshot material without you.

WINNING & FUSTRATION
Oslo Storm have been on a tear since the beginning of the season, they’re working hard, and are primed and ready to take on the Playoffs. As a player though, it’s hard to stay consistent and confident throughout an entire season. There are ups and downs; right about now Ryan Cattrall is feeling one of those down times. Since joining both the Helsinki Titans as a prospect and a member of the Oslo Storm he had certain goals going into the season, so far he’s falling below his own expectations although he’s got the best shot percentage on the team at 16.33% he’s also very solid with 16 goals and 16 assist (he currently sits third amongst his line in assists.) Of course consistency plays a heavy issue and he’s been working extra hard trying to become a solid piece on the second line. Hopefully he pulls himself together soon enough to continue putting effort into helping his team continuing their winning ways for the rest of the season.

Denver got a reaction from STZ in Cattrall Adamant For Storms Next Few Games
Cattrall Adamant For Storms Next Few Games
Cattrall is adamant about the next couple of games, after slaving away at being able to control the puck he’s making strides in that department after having lots of passes picked off in the middle of a break away or having a player opposite knocking the puck off his stick and returning it to someone else on the opposition. It’s been an ongoing thing as he’s trying to use the most of his VHLM season to get better to be able to possibly help Helsinki his VHL team in a season or two. So far so good, he’s been doing all the right things to contribute for the Storm and there are no signs of letting up. Meanwhile, The Storm’s next couple of games seems to be really interesting as they do battle against the Watchmen:
OSLO'S NEXT 3 GAMES
Game 112: @
Game 117: @
Game 122: @
“I’m ready for the next couple games. Hopefully I’m able to provide more of a presence out there on the ice help my teammates and finally get some consistency in my play. As a team I feel like we’re just getting started, we’re getting better and better each and every game, sometimes things might not go our way but this is hockey. The season’s tend to be lengthy and a push towards a cup isn’t as easy as saying ‘we want to become champions’ it’s going to be tough, and I suspect sooner rather than later we’re going to have to climb a hurdle or two.”

SLOW AND STEADY
Ryan Cattrall is off to an interesting start to his first full season in the VHLM with the Oslo Storm, in which the Storm shot out to an early lead before dropping two early yet critical games against improved opponents. Overall Cattrall is doing well, he’s following what coaches are saying and doing what he can. Stat wise he’s been keeping others on their toes, having scored more goals than assists after being heavily favored for becoming a dominant pass-first player. He isn’t complaining much, although he and his agent wish he could get a few more assist, he’s enjoying the ride both playing with his teammates and learning as they keep trying to improve themselves on the road to becoming one of the best teams in all of Europe. At the rate they’re going, they could be an interesting contender for the playoffs later down the road - maybe it’s a sign that the European Conference has finally gotten over the slump and the power vacuum that resides in the VHLM thanks to the North American Conference? – That remains to be seen, but going forward you can already tell that Cattrall and the Storm are going to do their best to make a run for the cup!

Denver got a reaction from STZ in One For The Team
ONE FOR THE TEAM
When you’re a 2nd round pick in the VHLM draft there’s never a dull moment, that’s definitely true for Ryan Cattrall who was caught out and about purchasing skates and sticks for the entire Oslo Storm roster to help ensure they were on the same page. Cattrall’s purchase might’ve been a little too outside the box, but at least his head was in the right place. Hopefully nobody was offended when he showed up with the equipment at practice.
“I don’t really even know what size all the guys wear or what brand of stick they use. At least they’ll know where I’m coming from, I want to win and I’m willing to do anything to help make that possible. Be it purchasing gear for everybody as a pick me up or staying late after practice, skating after hours or even trying to improve my slap shot.” Cattrall offered reporters as he was leaving the store.
Of course he’s doing everything in his power, he’s seemingly stepped it up in practice and has become a faster skater since the VHLM’s 39th season ended and he’s learning to handle the puck better, if this is a sign of awesome things to come you best believe he’s only going to become a stud in the future. Hopefully he doesn’t over do it on the goodwill towards his team and tries to help them out there on the ice, where it matters most.
