Funny you should ask that now, because we are having it again this year! It's an every 2 year event. As far as how soon, it may change with the 2 player proposal, but I was the GM of Team Mercenaries and I had a pair of players at 180-190 TPE on my squad, so just keep it up and you could make it into the S52 cup!
There are a lot of ways to earn TPE for you to improve your VHL player and while this may be daunting at first as a new member, it is pretty straight forward once you get the hang of it.
The first thing to understand is the difference between capped and uncapped TPE. Capped TPE counts against a weekly limit of 12 capped TPE per week. Uncapped TPE does not count against this limit.
CAPPED TPE
In the VHL, there is a limit of 12 capped TPE that can be earned each week. Capped TPE includes:
1. Point Tasks
The Point Task section can be found here.
Weekly point tasks are the primary way to earn TPE for your player. You can do one of these each week and there are 3 main options to complete them:
- Writing a Media Spot (a 500 word article)
- Creating a Graphic (typically a forum-style signature but can be other things)
- Recording a Podcast (minimum length of 15 mins for a solo podcast, increases with more participants).
Either of these will earn you 6 capped TPE as soon as you complete them. Your point task can be about virtually anything so long as it is at least slightly VHL-related.
Additionally, Media Spots and Podcasts of longer lengths (Up to 2000 words for Media, 50 mins for a solo podcast) are claimable for up to four weeks. Click on the appropriate links for Media Spot or Podcast to find out how long each Point Task has to be to be claimed for multiple weeks.
On weeks where you may not have time to complete one of the above point tasks, we offer another option: Welfare. By clicking on the Welfare/Pension button in the Player Management section of the portal, you will earn 4 capped TPE - however, this will count as your point task for the week. Later once you grow your player a bit, you may graduate to a pension plan where you can earn up to 5 TPE for a welfare claim. More information on Welfare can be found here.
2. Supplemental Point Tasks
Supplemental Point Tasks offer several less time-consuming methods of earning capped TPE and you can earn a maximum of 6 capped TPE per week from these activities (Maximum weekly amount that can be earned from each activity listed in brackets):
VHL.com Article – Write a short, 150 word article (2 TPE)
VHL.com Graphic – Create a simple graphic (E.g. A Player Card) (2 TPE)
VHL.com Radio – Record a short 5 minute podcast (3 TPE)
Note: For VHL.coms, you can do two of the three options per week, but you can only do one of each type. (E.g. You can do both a VHL.com Article and VHL.com Graphic in the same week, but you can’t do two VHL.com Articles).
Press Conference – Ask or answer press conference questions (3 for 1 TPE, 6 for 2 TPE)
Trivia – Answer VHL-related trivia questions (Up to 2 TPE if both questions answered correctly)
Reviewing – Give a 75 word review of another member’s Point Task for 1 TPE (Can be done twice for 2 TPE)
Game Recap – Give a 75 word report of a VHL game for 1 TPE (Can be done twice for 2 TPE)
3. Affiliate Replacements
Members who are in a league that is affiliated with the VHL are able to claim some of the point tasks that they submit in those leagues in the VHL for TPE as a replacement for the VHL alternative to those point tasks and vice versa. The leagues that we offer Affiliate Replacements to are linked below:
4. League Jobs
It takes a lot of people to keep everything in the VHL running and, as such, we frequently post in the job interviews section to hire new members. Job pay varies depending on the amount of work required for the job, most jobs offer 2-4 capped TPE, but higher-up roles such as simmer and commissioner are paid more.
Jobs are the best way to get consistent TPE on top of your weekly point task and get more involved with the league in the process.
UNCAPPED TPE
Uncapped TPE is extra TPE that does not count against the weekly TPE cap. There are many sources of uncapped TPE:
Practice Facility
The Practice Facility is the easiest source of uncapped TPE. All players are eligible to claim Practice Facility through the Player Management section of the portal. VHLM and VHLE players earn 2 uncapped TPE through Practice Facility whereas VHL players earn 1 uncapped TPE.
Career Point Tasks
Career Point Tasks are special point tasks that can be completed once per career. A Biography is a 800 word fictional account of your players life that can be submitted at any point in your career and It will earn you 8 uncapped TPE upon completion. There are four other Career Point Tasks; Prospect Scouting Report, Hello Europe, Rookie Experience and Career Reflection are 500 word pieces that follow a specific theme but can only be completed during certain stages of your career. Each of these require 400 words and can be claimed for 5 TPE.
Fantasy Zones
The VHL Fantasy Zone is a good source of uncapped TPE. Everyone can participate in the VHL Fantasy Zone and requires you to correctly predict VHL or NHL results, with more TPE being rewarded for better predictions. Yearly Award Predictions, Victory Hockey Fantasy League and Super Coach are also great ways to earn uncapped TPE, they are however only open in the off-season.
League Giveaways
The league will often do giveaways during holidays or special events, for example, we have a "Theme Week" that takes place the week before the trade deadline and offers a Doubles Week to anyone who submits a main point task that fits the theme. A Doubles Week means that everyone earns double TPE from their point task for that week, so it's essentially 6 uncapped TPE. We also sometimes give out Free Weeks and Full Free Weeks, with a Free Week offering 6 capped TPE as a PT replacement and Full Free Weeks offer the full 12 capped TPE.
Recruitment Rewards
Perhaps the most lucrative source of uncapped TPE, recruitment rewards will give you a lot of uncapped TPE for recruiting new members that continue to be active in the league. You can find information on the standard recruitment rewards here.
