Zetterberg got a reaction from Steve in Leif Reingaard Rookie Experience
    Leif Reingaard Rookie Experience

It’s a big day in Moscow as rookie defenseman Leif Reingaard has just finished his first career game as a VHL player. After all the hype around him, fans finally got to see the rookie in action. He did not disappoint as his shots hit the back of the net twice! These goals included his first ever VHL goal in his first game as well as Moscow’s first goal of the season. Moscow walked away with a 5-4 shootout win. Fortunately we were able to set up an interview with Reingaard shortly after his exciting debut.

Interviewer: “Hey Leif, how are you feeling after such a solid start to your rookie season?”

Leif: “It feels great, I’m glad I could get on the board and get some momentum under me early into the season. I know the first game is always seen as a big deal for fans so I’m glad I could give the ones in Moscow what they wanted.”

Interviewer: “I’m sure they’re all very excited right now. Have you noticed any difference in the speed or difficulty of the game compared to your opponents in the European league?”

Leif: “Yeah it’s a big adjustment for sure. The speed had definitely picked up. I got caught flat footed a few more times than I’d like to admit. Even the other aspects of the game are harder, about 15 seconds into my first shift I blocked a shot from Bogatyrev. I don’t think I've ever felt that much power before, guess that’s something I'm going to have to get used to.

Interviewer: “What are some of your goals for this season?”

Leif: “Currently my only focus is on helping Moscow win as much as possible however I can.”

Interviewer: “What about the Stolzschweiger, and aspirations to win top rookie?”

Leif: “I think it’s in my best interest to not know what you are talking about haha. Like I said before, all I'm focused on is improving my game and winning with Moscow.

Interviewer: Fair enough haha, speaking of winning with Moscow your brother Thor (@N0HBDY) was supposed to be playing with you this season but was traded to Warsaw during the offseason. This has led to a lot of speculation of your place in Moscow. Do you have any intentions of joining him when your contracts are up?

Leif: “I think that too far in the future to say for sure, but if me and Thor were focused on playing with each other he wouldn’t have requested a trade. My priorities are with the team that believes in me and drafted me. If he wants to join up down the line that would be great but i’m not going to sacrifice my career to do so”

Interviewer: “Then it seems like Moscow has nothing to worry about. Thank you so much for your time.”

It seems Reingaard is ready to go this season! We will be keeping a close eye on his performance during his rookie season. His impressive debut and commitment to the team’s success suggest a promising career ahead.

Zetterberg reacted to Grape in Trading the Greatest Player of All Time
In a shocking turn of events, the Ottawa Lynx had traded possibly the greatest player of all time, Wayne Gretzky, to the San Diego Marlins for a hodgepodge of picks. After being drafted in the fourth round of the S91 draft, Gretzky released a statement that he was recovering from a broken everything and would miss the entirety of the season. A player of this prestige, who had already fallen far in the draft due to their extremely old age of 142 and overall rust in his game, will now be practically non-existent for a full season. Gretzky, the legend he is, was able to make a full recovery in the S91 offseason and engaged in full-contact practice, prepared and ready to hit the ground running in his highly anticipated debut. However, notice came to the GM office in Ottawa that Wayne Gretzky had demanded a trade, citing that the frigid Ottawa weather was impacting the recovery period and needed to be in a warmer location to minimize the threat of reinjury and complete pulverization of his bones. Although he did end up debuting with the Ottawa Lynx, dawning his iconic 99 once more and averaging a point per game, he was officially traded after the 2nd game of the season, tagged on with a handful of picks, to the San Diego Marlins for a bunch of better picks. As was shown before and proven once again, a team can trade for anyone, even Wayne Gretzky.

Zetterberg reacted to Gustav in Hopefully Unique Advice for New Members
It’s our first big recruitment drive in a while, and what that means is that it’s the first time in a while that lots of new members might see something I write all at once. So, I thought I’d share some tips that might help you that you might not necessarily see repeated by everyone else (e.g., join Discord, earn well, whatever else that’s helpful but that you’ve definitely heard already.

Older members are normal people and generally like it when you talk to them. I erred on the side of being a little too respectful when I joined the VHL (as in, I was nice enough that it was weird), but as long as you’re not disrespectful of anyone (or insulting to the time lots of us have put into this place), we’d love to hear from you and help you out! We once had all the questions you do.

Make content you enjoy. You will not want to write 500 words every week if you only ever write about the last week’s sim results. Find what speaks to you about the league and do that—create stories about your player, analyze stats, or make grand predictions (or even get into graphics and podcasts). Writing articles I would actually bother to read has kept me here for almost 5 years now.

Find the time to VHL that works for you. Right now, I’m writing this on my phone between sets at the gym. It takes zero extra time out of my day, because it’s the time I’d be using to do nothing otherwise. That’s really valuable to me because I’m really busy sometimes. Sure, I’ll write 3,000-word articles about 10+-year-old players as well, but only when I have the time and I want to.

Get to know other VHLM teams and players. It takes a long time to learn exactly who’s who, but get to know your team’s roster—who the players are and which members have made them. Then, branch out by finding the league leaders and learning which members you’re competing with. You’ll care more as you learn more.

I hope this is useful and I encourage other people with experience to share some of it too!

Zetterberg reacted to Spartan in S92 Moscow Menace Captains
Well it's certainly been one of the offseasons of all time. Lot of fun stuff happened around Christmas time with the league showing up in force to raise money for various charities. The extra time in the offseason also gave our young team a lot of time to develop a bit more and get ready to try and make a splash in the EU this season. While we lost some talented players, we were able to lean on our strong prospect pool and future asset pool to replenish our stocks and come out strong.

    First Alternate - Axle Gunner - @Steve

I typically don't give my AGM's player a leadership role and a letter, but it's difficult not to do so for someone as involved and vocal as Steve and Gunner. There's no question that this team is being built with Gunner as one of its key focal points, and he has a good share of input already behind the scenes as the AGM. He'll be expected to take a significant step forward to becoming one of the top players in the VHL this season. I hope that his leadership and leading by example mentality translates to our team succeeding on the ice as well as off the ice!

Second Alternate - Obuz Schneider Canet du Bocage - @Grape

OSCB is back for his sophomore season and also receives the A for a second time. He's still the de facto leader on our blue line, this time one of the more veteran faces in the room with two rookies in Leif Reingaard and Celise Pereira joining the team. Nils Andersson has also swapped positions from winger to defense, so there'll be some responsibility for OSCB to help facilitate a lot of adjustment in the defense corps. We'll be hoping that the Frenchman can take a big step forward in his sophomore year and help shore up our defense while driving offense from the back end.

    Captain - Left Alone - @okochastar

The most veteran member of the team, and one who has shown a lot of loyalty to the organization as well by sticking it out through the rebuild, Left Alone has been selected as the captain for S92! He's proven to be one of our best players on the ice and passed up on the opportunity to play for a contender in the past to help our young players in their development phases. This season, expectations are sky high for our star duo of Alone and Gunner to see if they can drive Moscow's offense and the team into the playoffs.

Congrats to all named to the leadership team!

Zetterberg reacted to Beketov in VHL New Year’s Resolutions - 2024
    I’ll even start.

I would like to see our YouTube ads branch out. I’ve long wondered if we haven’t over-saturated a small market of NHL YouTubers and basically, despite using multiple different ones, reached the same target audience each time. What I mean is that every ad we’ve run basically, regardless of who it’s been with, has provided diminishing returns. I would wager that the people who see one of the YouTubers in that category probably see’s many of them so having the ad on 4 different channels but reaching the same audience is no different than having it on 1 channel, does that make sense?

What I have in mind is, oddly, ignoring the hockey aspect. Yes the VHL is a hockey sim league but it’s also a game in a sense and gamers come in all varieties. I didn’t join sim leagues because of a specific sport I joined them for the game aspect and found different sports within the “game” that was sim leagues. So why don’t we try some non-hockey related channels? Try breaking into a different market audience than what has already seen our ads. There are tons of different gaming channels of varying sizes on YouTube that we could approach.

Would it work? Not sure. But I would definitely like to give it a try.

    Hello @Members!

I'm excited to announce that we have made our charitable donation for the year of $1656 to Doctor's Without Borders!

Additionally you all donated $1804 separate from the league bringing our total for the 2023 Holiday Charity drive to $3540! I'm always amazed to see the league come together and make such a difference in the world, it's great to see.

You all want some rewards I imagine though don't you? Well it was close but thanks to being $40 over the $3500 threshold we have once again hit every community goal which means every member of the community can claim 20 uncapped TPE and a PT Doubles week! It also means all our community items were met which means:

@twists will stream a declaration of his love for everyone that's been active in the past week.
@DarkSpyro will perform some Christmas themed metal songs
@Grape will do a full stream of all the Five Nights at Freddy's games.
@Acydburn will stream something, he just hasn't decided what yet.
@Beketov will once again stream Zoo Tycoon 2 Ultimate and name animals after VHL members.

As mentioned in the OP, unfortunately to keep things fair and not have a bunch of future creates claiming this: Rewards may only be applied to players created on, or before, December 25th, 2023

We'll get that stuff all scheduled as well as the raffle draw scheduled soon so keep an eye out for that and, once again, thank you all for making this time of year in the VHL so special!
