I think this is a super, super important point. If a post on there isn't interesting or meaningful to someone who has no idea what the VHL is, then it's not doing anything. This is an area I've personally done a lot of looking into over the last couple years and I still have a ton to learn but I'll try to share some thoughts that hopefully come across as helpful and not critical..

The pinned post on there is good - now I would probably prefer the wording "5 points to build your player" or something to "5 uncapped TPE" because the terminology "uncapped TPE" is sorta gibberish to someone just scrolling by, but you can definitely infer what "points to build your player" means & that it's a good thing, even if you don't know specifically how it works. I'd make that section more prominent as a reward that could draw someone in - but anyway, it's a good post with a lot of good information, promotes the league, tells people why they should be here.

But as Z said, a post with a Kris Letang jersey swap and the name Reese McFleury on it doesn't mean anything to anyone except the people that are already here. And that kind of thing is 90% of the Instagram. In addition to not making much sense to someone who isn't here, it also doesn't draw anyone in. Even if it looks cool, it doesn't really scream "there's a league here, check us out" - where stuff like standings, draft rankings, playoff/stats races do.

Put a call to action on the stuff that goes up there - just like a "this could be you!" on an award or championship graphic, or a "join the VHL // vhlforum.com" on something general, or something so that if something does catch someone's eye, they know there's a fantasy league & they immediately know how to check us out. It being in the description means they have to decide they want to read the description to get there. People don't get that far very often. That's another key point. If you really want people to see something, it shouldn't only be in the description.
Promote the players of standout first gens / new members especially, when you can - so that people don't feel like "oh they're 90 seasons in, how am I going to catch up in something that established anyway".
I don't have any specific ideas as far as engaging with users goes, but stuff that makes people want to interact & respond is huge... especially if you can get it to be of interest to non-VHL members & something they can contribute to.

Hello VHL, just wanted to rant about something real quick, I’m sure I’m not the first to talk about this and I’d hope that higher ups are aware of the issue but I feel it’s worth getting more attention. What is happening in the VHLM. Teams have no players! Like at all! Look at this!!

How are these actual teams that are actually stepping on to the ice night after night?? That’s embarrassing. I get teams having 6-4-1 instead of the irl usual of 12-6-2. It’s sim hockey everyone wants some minutes but running a 2-1-1?!?! Or a 3-0-1?!?!?! 0 defenders on a hockey team…How is this supposed to encourage anyone on those teams to keep playing? And it’s not just Mexico and Halifax, Miami is running a 3-1-1, Mississauga is running a 4-2-1, Philly is running a 4-2-1. Hell the top team in the league rn Houston has 5 forwards and is about to lose one to IA.

The VHLM either needs to fold a bunch of teams next season or we fix the real problem and get recruitment to do something. Now I would like to say if you are apart of recruitment I don’t dislike you guys as members. But as the recruitment team you need to stop fucking around with reposting graphics that makes no sense to anyone outside the league on instagram and TikTok. Start doing what works. Get YouTube ads out, they bring in players every time and the majority of current members came from YouTube (me included). And get some better ideas for promotion I’m sorry but the instagram looks like garbage.

The image quality is all over the place the framing is even more all over the place. It looks sloppy and unprofessional. No one is gonna be drawn in to a post with Alex Letang in a Malmo Jersey with the name Reese McFleury plastered across his body. Cause it doesn’t make any sense to anyone outside of the vhl, which just so happens to be WHO YOU ARE ADVERTISING TO!! Like look at this post and tell me you aren’t going to instantly scroll by it.

Also probably the most important part do we even know if we’re allowed to be using NHL players to promote our site? Like it’s definitely okay to make stuff for the forum because it’s personal projects, but when it crosses into advertising I have to imagine that’s not allowed right? Like those are real people’s likenesses being used to promote the VHL without giving them financial compensation or getting consent.

It feels like recruitment has been bumbling around not putting any real effort or at least not coordinating a proper vision of how to promote the site. To end it, save the VHLM by getting a god damn YouTube ad out, and fix the sloppy mess that is the social media accounts.

I can say that as someone who works in the M as a GM, constantly trying to retain players, get them updating and interested in the league, the player drought right now would be just as bad for us as the rest of the league had I not twisted the arms of my friends and family to make players in the VHL. I don't agree with removing M teams, but I do agree with the statement that until a recruitment drive or something like removing the E and changing the TPE cap for M teams changes our situation, the M will continue to struggle immensely and something needs to be done soon. The M is meant to be a developmental league where players get their bearings and learn what they need to do to make good players to compete in the other leagues. When I can count on one hand how many active users are in M locker room discords ACROSS THE BOARD, not just in the small rostered teams, there is a MASSIVE problem that is being neglected.

What's the point of having a developmental league if the only people we're developing are recreates and the odd new gen that's gonna leave the league once they are gone from the team they were recruited to? I'm not blaming the recruitment team solely for this issue, but a lot of the responsibility for this issue can be attributed to the fall from grace from where they used to be in their recruiting numbers back in the S60's & 70's and now. Get posting to reddit again, roll out YT ads, go door to door, literally anything except just reposting graphics from users and VSN on the league Instagram and Twitter.

Zetterberg got a reaction from Gaikoku-hito in Stealing Other People’s Work
I remember way back in my youth, probably like 2nd or 3rd grade, my teacher assigned us a project. We were to make a children’s book on a topic that interested us. I decided to make a book about betta fish. When introducing the project, the teacher gave us a cute little talk about plagiarism, and some basic dos and don’ts on researching and using sources in your own work. It was a brief discussion, as we were kids and were pretty much just reciting basic factoids and whatnot about our topic, but it was done to introduce us to research itself. This was expanded upon and gone in a bit more depth upon entering middle school. As research projects became more popular and utilized in pretty much every class, teachers began stressing the importance of proper citations and paraphrasing, avoiding plagiarizing, and interpreting sources, as well as grading harsher and harsher based on errors pertaining to those. It’s been basically drilled into all our heads at one point or another of our lives and it’s been made very clear that stealing other people’s work is wrong, and should be punished.

Ever since I’ve joined the VHL, I’ve always been a fan of the VHLE. The vast majority of my articles, podcasts, and other TPE related activities has been focused on the E. My giant spreadsheet that breaks down every team started out as purely being for the VHLE, and I only expanded it to the other two leagues out of boredom. I update the E portion practically daily, while the VHL gets looked at maybe once a week and the M maybe a few times a season. I’ve dedicated a lot of time learning about the M and how it works, eventually getting a GM gig in the league and I really have little desire to move on from that, at least for now. I would wager that, out of the active members at least, I put out arguably the most E content. Likewise, I love reading articles about the E, as I really enjoy seeing other people showing the same enjoyment as I have for the league. Because of my passion for the league, I pretty much read every single article that gets put out regarding the league. So, when it comes to making content about the E, it probably is not the smartest idea to plagiarize from me.

A few days after posting my Season 91 VHLE Rankings, I was sitting around in class, bored as hell, and decided to take a bit of a gander at some of the media spots that have been put out, and I notice this nice little article by @Spartan also looking at the VHLE for this season . As I started reading, I thought to myself, “huh, this looks really similar to my article”. I shared both his and mine with a handful of people, and they also agreed that these articles were a bit too similar to be a simple coincidence. Later on, I went to his profile and saw that he also made a smaller article, going over the same thing, and I thought, “wow, this looks really similar to my article”. And props to him for pulling out a couple tried-and-true methods, like changing the wording slightly, and swapping the order for a couple of the teams, just to make it look original. It’s one thing to agree on a handful of points, but it’s another to basically repeat every single point I made. The second, shorter article was much more blatant. I’ll point out a couple key indicators of plagiarism for y’all in case you don’t feel like looking for them yourselves:
    - In both articles, he finds it important to mention the peculiarity of Oslo’s trading system, something that I brought up and is only supported by my own anecdotal evidence. Is trading actually bad for a team, I don’t really know.
    - For Geneva, he mentions how evil the commissioners are and how they never should have taken away my sweet baby boy, a term that I made up in my article and, from my knowledge, has never been used by anyone except for me in this singular instance.
    - In his small article, he copies the order in which I ranked the teams. In his larger article, however, he swaps the order for a couple teams. You would think, especially based on how closely both his articles were made, that he would have the same ordering for both.
    - Probably the most damning one. In my article I compared Oslo and Stockholm. In his small article, he attempts to do the same, but he has “similarly” on Oslo, which he ranked below Stockholm. There is nothing similar between Oslo and Cologne bud.

Look, I don’t have a monopoly on VHLE rankings. If you want to do them, feel free to do so. I would love to see more E content. The majority of content made is about the VHL, and I feel that the lower leagues need a little more appreciation (although the M can stay barren cuz bad league). If you’re gonna do it, however, make it original. I take a lot of pride in my work and it’s very upsetting to see it be blatantly stolen and pawned off as someone else's. I mean, that short article wasn’t even trying to hide it. If you really really really can’t think of stuff on your own and want to use someone else’s work, at the very least throw in some citations. Zetterberg reacted to Daniel Janser in CGY Janser having a boat warming party
Callum wanted to accelerate the team bonding with his new brothers in arms, and what better way than a combined house warming/boat party. So he invited the whole team on to the 'Chancer'. And everyone answered the call. Cal prepared for this on his Atlantic passage and fished some marlin, mackerels, cod and even a halibutt. The marlin he grilled as steaks, the mackerels he smoked on the built in smoker of Kurt's former leisure yacht. From the cods he made fish'n'chips and the halibut was done as filets with a nice bearnaise sauce. But he also went to a deli and bought some typical Swedish food such as köttbullar, moose, smoked eel and to round it out some more regular BBQ goods like ribeye steaks, pork chops and some sausages. He baked bread from scratch and prepared some veggies as well. He was lucky that on the day of the event, the sun was out and the cockpit as well as the sun deck could be used to mingle. Of course there was plenty of drinks available as well. The Reingaard brothers were the first to arrive. Once they spotted the hot tub on the sun deck, they asked their captain if they are allowed to use it. Callum just laughed and said: 'Of course, feel yourself at home.' Thor said: 'But we did not bring swim trunks with us...' Cal-Gary replied: 'Dude, we all have seen you in your birthday suit on a daily basis after exercise. Don't you play coy with me now.' Leif then slapped his brother on the back and said: 'You heard the man. Last man in is a rotten egg.' and they stormed off leaving their clothes in their wake.
Mattias, Verhault and Barca were next and Janser asked them whether they were interested in learning how to play 'schieber', a Swiss card game. They were very excited to learn of new way to wager money.
Once everyone was on board, Callum started to grill on demand and asked his guests to help themselves to the beverages. 'One out, one in' was his only request so that everybody would have an ice cold drink, if they so wished. Of course his crew was present as well and helped the guests to find the heads, or doing dishes in between. Since there was no match the following day, Cal asked GM Tyler Zetterberg's permission to an open end curfew, which was granted by the boss. And the team made good use of that curfew, as the last one leaving the 'Chancer' did so at the crack of dawn, after a very entertaining but yet still moderately tame party.

Every lil tidbit you took from my article and slammed into yours, slap a “(Grape, 2023)” at the end of it. Once you reach the end of your article, be sure to include your sources like so:
