Philadelphia, PA – Philadelphia Reapers Head Coach/GM @DMaximus& Assistant GM Spence King announced today that DARIUS MARIMOTO @dariusmarimotoman has been named the longest tenured captain in Reapers franchise history*(Not all Data available) continuing to wear the C for his THIRD season in Philly . Along with returning for his 3rd season in Philly before going pro vet and top Reapers draft pick in S74 a MAJOR…MAJOR part of our leadership group and has been since stepping in the locker room, CARSON WALKERS @Cwalker, last week the Reapers roster held a vote in regards to who they believe have been and are consistently contributing to the discord LR and being great role models for all team members. The results of the poll were VERY tight with a FIVE way tie, obviously leaving our front office with some tough decisions to make in regards to who will be our on ice leadership group in S75, without further a due after very long and hard-fought consideration, JACOB CARSON @jacobcarson877, and ADDISON MCLAREN @tcookie25 will each serve as alternate captains.

"Since I arrived in Philadelphia four seasons ago, we have been blessed with a tremendous amount of leadership on our roster," said King. "Darius has grown up within that environment and evolved into someone who not only plays his best hockey when it matters the most, but who also leads by example off the ice. He knows what it takes to win and his performance in our recent playoff runs reflects that. Most importantly, Darius has the respect of his teammates and we're extremely proud to name him as the Longest tenured captain of the Philadelphia Reapers."

“As an organization we are excited to finalize our leadership group today and feel that all four players, led by Marimoto, as well as guys like Robert Bouchard, Bob Tristan Robin Galante Nilsson and so many more all truly exemplify and understand what it is expected of a Reaper” stated Assistant GM Spence King.

"We have a great blend of talent and experience amongst these three players who will work amongst Darius as alternate captains," said King. "Two of these players are previous captains in the minors for 3 seasons now and we feel this group is a reflection of our team's identity and their leadership will be counted on both on the ice and in the community. Our team poll speaks for itself our locker rook is loaded with leaders even our S76 Rookies are verging the role of captain and will more than soon be wearing letters themselves"

Defensive Star - With 15 shots blocked, 34 hits, and a plus/minus of 12 we have to award Jolly Greene Giant @DoktorFunk with the title of Defensive Star for this week. Congratulations!

    Goalies
Instead of providing awards to each team's goalies, since there are normally only two options per team, we are going to highlight one goalie per week who holds the lowest GAA (must play a majority of the team's games). The goalie with the lowest GAA for the week will be awarded the Brick Wall Award

Brick Wall Award - While this player's SV% isn't overly impressive, he has made sure to maintain a relatively low GAA of 2.46. This week's Brick Wall Award winner is Matthew A Sovick jr @matt sovick of the Las Vegas Aces! Congratulations!

    League Overall
As you can see this has been an exciting first week of S75 in the VHLM! The Philadelphia Reapers have made themselves known around the league this week, putting themselves ahead of every team early on. Can they keep this forward momentum going and find themselves raising the Founders Cup at the end? As of right now it is way too early to tell, but we must keep an eye on them.

We are still waiting for the Ottawa Lynx to have something other that "0" in their W column. With an embarrassing 0-11-0 start to the season we can only imagine that tensions in the locker room is high, while morale is low.

    1) Big Announcement within the VHLM of the new Junior System for overflow players, what are your thoughts on the new “expansion” to the Minors?
RB: Well, I like the idea since I was think they should implement something like this and may have commented on such in the past few weeks when issue of all the players were being discussed but I cannot take credit for something I might have just suggested or liked. Naming it Juniors for me is a bit weird as it seems that we are Juniors in the VHLM so this new league should be Minor Hockey or Major Midget? It is a short term fix but might be a good long term fix if we continue to have huge influx of players. But then again Expansion would be required again at some point.

    2) This is offseason week, both VHL and VHLM drafts have passed and with last seasons influx of recruits the Reapers are starting the season with 12 Forwards 5 D and 2 G for almost a full 4 lines. This means Ice time is going to change a lot for most players and how does this make you feel?
RB: At the end of the day I am not concerned about ice time as that is up to the coaches and General Managers to worry about. Staying in control of the things that you can control will make yourself a more situational player that team will look to when and if the situation arises. Focus on my own development; that of my teams mates and ice time shouldn't be an issue.

     3) What role do you see yourself playing for the S75 Reapers Squad?
RB:  What ever the team requires be it first line center, second or third, power-play or PK. These are the things that I cannot control but I can control my development and if I want a larger role on the team then I simple need to prove that I can out play and develop my game better and faster then others in those roles. Realistically I am looking at second or third line center role, with maybe secondary power-play but again this isn't my choice.

     4) If there’s one thing everyone in Philadelphia needs to know about you what is it?
RB:  LOL, Not that I can think of!! At least without coming across as "A". But I am team driven just as much as I am development driven so what ever is best for the team or my development is what I am going to back. Being with the Reapers this season after our draft we have a very good team so I can only focus on helping the team win as much as we can and try to earn the ice time based on my development.

5)What are your personal goals as an individual any milestones in particular you’re looking to reach?
RB: I would like to cap out at 250 TPE by the end season and earlier the better; without earning over so that I can help the team in a push for the league this season. Has me pumped to be on a much stronger team this season and seeing what numbers I can put together with better players. I would also like to improve defensively as I finished last season at -27 on a bad defensive team and I would like to see if I can improve to a point per game or more this season after being close to a point per game last season. It will be interesting to see the growth on and off the ice with the more experience and hopefully a full season of in the VHLM might offer.

6)Where do you see the Reapers sitting right now in the VHLM Power ranking and how do you feel after your draft weekend experience?
RB: I was watching the lead-up to the draft very closely so I did take a strong look at the draft picks every team had collected and was projecting a strong draft from the Reapers this season. I don't think I am incorrect in this aspect but that being said I haven't looked to see what other teams actually accomplished since being drafted but I can say we should easily be top three if all the players can continue to develop and we focus on the team game over the season. Hopefully we don't end up with all the good players being grabbed by VHL teams as the season progress and we can have a strong season and run in the play-offs but Halifax should last season even if you are strong it doesn't mean success. We should be a good team this year but need to maintain and improve our standings.

What a thrilling tournament it was, and congratulations to the winner! The World Cup brings us the rare opportunity to see some of the league’s elite players matched on lines with players that they would never normally be able to play alongside. This season’s event was a wonderful experience, and that is due to the hard work and dedication of the commissioner @fonziGG, all the GMs, @Spartan, @Banackock, @Toast, @Spence King, @Peace and @Jubo07, as well as @Josh for simming. Thank you all for creating a fun tournament for everyone.

Without any more delay, let’s get into the results!

    Quarter-Finals
With Team USA and Team Mercenaries receiving byes for their exceptional performances in the round robin, that left two matchups:
Team Western Europe vs. Team Canada Team World vs. Team Nordic
Both of these games went to overtime, so to say this round had fans on the edge of their seats would be an understatement.

    Western Europe vs. Canada
After trading goals in the first period, the game found itself even at one apiece in the first intermission. Canada would go on to have a nice second frame, tallying two goals in under two minutes. Kris Rice, as well as the pair of Killinger and Downey, were all building a great game for themselves. However, Western Europe was not out yet. Western Europe goaltender Nicolas Fomba saved all nineteen shots he faced in the final period, leaving it up to his players to determine their fate. Seattle forward Uhtred stepped up to the plate, potting two goals in the third. This meant overtime.

Time was winding down in overtime, and you could start to feel the players’ exhaustion even if you weren’t even on the ice with them. A late powerplay would provide Canada with an opportunity to take the game, and they made no mistake. Kris Rice would deflect a puck out front, and complete the hattrick.

    FINAL SCORE: 4-3

    World vs. Nordic
This game was a little less busy in terms of goal-scoring, but that only served to make the suspense all the more intriguing. The first period included a goal from Team Nordic’s Wolf Stansson Jr, who would blast one home at even-strength. The second period was a goalies battle, with no goals sneaking past either of the netminders. Zamboni Driver of Team Nordic would notably stop 21 shots this period, and it looked like he might be too hot to beat. Early in the third, Team World’s Ondrej Ohradka would ensure that that would not be the case with an early goal to set the tone for the rest of his team. Once again, we were headed to extra frames.

It did not take long to bring this game to a close though. Ola Vikingstad buried a shot just two minutes in, causing Team Nordic to advance to the Semi-Finals.

    FINAL SCORE: 2-1

    Semi-Finals
Although I can’t say that both of these games went to overtime, I can say they were both unbelievably close. There were some tremendous showings from the goaltenders this round, resulting in some low-scoring affairs which were still as fast-paced as a game with double-digit goals.

    Team Nordic vs. Team USA
This game started off with another stellar performance in goal from Zamboni Driver, saving all 14 shots he faced. The team in front of him only registered 4 shots on goal, yet that was enough to put them ahead by one. The second period was largely eventless, but I cannot say the same about the third.

Relatively early on, the VHL’s top goal scorer Mikko Lahtinen scores a goal that nudges his team up to a two goal lead. USA showed some resistance, with the S74 Christian Stolzschweiger Trophy nominee John Merrick sniping one prior to the game’s end. However, that was not enough to halt Team Nordic from reaching the finals.

    FINAL SCORE: 2-1

    Team Canada vs. Team Mercenaries
The first period of this game may feel like déjà vu, with Canada leading 1-0 after being outshot by Team Mercenaries. Rayz Funk also had a similar start to Zamboni Driver, stopping all 13 shots he faced in the opening frame.

Canada would double their lead about halfway through the game, with Timothy Brown scoring on a goal that marked a matching fourth assist for defense partners Erik Killinger and Jeff Downey. Team Mercenaries would capitalize on a man advantage in the third, though yet again it wasn’t enough to catch up to their finals-bound opponents.

    FINAL SCORE: 2-1

    Bronze Medal Game
Both of these teams were heading into this game filled with fire and a desire for redemption after missing out on playing in the gold medal match. The opening period included a remarkably quick start for Team USA, with Thomas Landry II lighting the lamp with just 12 seconds off the clock. The Mercenaries would answer back on the powerplay with a goal from defender Seabass Perrin, and we left the period at an even 1-1.

It didn’t take long for Team Mercenaries to take the lead in the second period, with Nate Telker putting one home. However, USA would bounce back with two goals of their own, each scored by Tony Bolonee. We headed into the third period at 3-2 USA.

The period which would decide for each team whether they would leave with a medal or no medal was upon us. There was little action in the first ten minutes, with neither team giving an inch. The breakthrough came from USA forward Thomas Landry II once again, who would score twice in the final ten. This propelled Team USA to a bronze medal victory, which honestly feels better than a silver medal loss most of the time.

    FINAL SCORE: 5-2

    Finals
It all comes down to this. The finals matchup was set — Canada vs. Nordic — and now it’s all about executing on every play, because it could cost your team everything. What a wild game this was, and you guessed it; It was yet another game decided by one goal.

Team Canada capitalized early on a powerplay opportunity, with that top pair remaining dominant. Despite the hot start, Canada would begin to cool down after an impressive shorthanded tally from Ray Sheilds. Following this, Team Nordic would add two more goals from Patrik Tallinder and Ola Vikingstad, which would give them a comfortable 3-1 lead after one.

The second period would see Brock Louth score a goal that was quickly answered by Sheilds again with one of his own. Nordic maintained their two goal lead until around one minute left in the period, where Louth would pot his second of the period.

With a 4-3 game through two periods, we knew this one would go down to the wire. The last ever period from generational goaltender Rayz Funk saw him save 15 Nordic shots with ease, allowing his team to work on tying the game. Team Nordic would take three penalties in the last ten minutes of the third, including a double minor with just five minutes left. As he seemed to do all tournament long, Zamboni Driver absolutely shut things down, ultimately winning the championship with Team Nordic.

    FINAL SCORE: 4-3

Driver would go on to take home tournament MVP as well, which was a well-earned title for the goalie. Congratulations to all of Team Nordic on a great tournament, and hopefully the next tournament will be just as riveting!

Spence King reacted to Jubo in S75 Helsinki Titans Captains
S74 was another close call for the Titans as they made their second straight cup final. S75 offers Helsinki another strong chance of competing their way to a 3rd straight finals appearance. Each and every member of the Titans is dialed in and ready to show the league we once again mean business. Over the last couple days we held a private team vote for captaincy. The results were far to close to call, so for S75 we will have a captain and three assistants named!

    The Titans are proud to announce their elected captains for season 75;

    Team Captain: Ola Vikingstad @Dil
    Assistant Captain: Patrik Laine @PatrikLaine
    Assistant Captain: Hiroshi Okada @enigmatic
    Assistant Captain: Jared Spaz @Spaz

    1) After looking at the draft results and peoples power rankings it looks like we should be one of the favorites this season, so I hope we can build on that!
    2) That's pretty tough to answer given that I haven't played a game in either the VHL or the VHLM in years, but I want to be a reliable all-situations player that manages to chip in offensively while minimizing mistakes in his own end.
    3) Well draft day, obviously! Even though I couldn't follow it live when it happened it still was a great day for my player and I couldn't have been happier with how it went.
    4) I would take them to the kitched were the players can either get money from the team chefs or prepare stuff themselves, and have a nice family cookout.
    5) Nah I'm not gonna do that because sticks need to break! I for one prefer lighter sticks and to have them break occasionally is part of the process, I really wouldn't want a heavy unbreakable tree branch just to save some money.
    6) I'm gonna go with disappointed/unimpressed Michael Scott. He always makes me laugh but at the same time his expression is pretty... demanding so maybe he will help the team give it all every night?
