Temppi got a reaction from Hooperorama in Player Interview: Joromir Jogr
It is a warm day in Ottawa. Zero clouds over the city, sun is shining, birds are chirping...it's a perfect summer day. And as we know, it's a great day for hockey. I am here to interview Mr Joromir Jogr. I was supposed to interview Jogr before the game but my plane arrived couple hours late, but I managed to arrange the interview after the game which was very good indeed.

Jogr seems to be a true gentleman. By the time I arrived to the airport, he had called his manager to get me a ticket and a driver to tonight's game. Since it was around 1 hour until game time, the driver drove me directly to the rink. Jogr plays in a VHLM club called Ottawa Lynx. It is Jogr's first season outside Czech Republic but it seems that it hasn't affected him game-wise. Before tonight, he has played 5 games, totaling 3 goals and 5 assists. Good start to his VHLM career, so to say. Okay, the game seems to be starting shortly.

What a game it was for Jogr! He scored 1 and assisted 2 goals. I knew this Czech wonderkid was a great player, but wow I certainly wasn't expecting this. He is fast, huge, strong and on top of that, he really knows how to score goals and create dangerous plays. What a player. One for the future for sure.

To the locker room we go. This place seems to be stacked of reporters. I am going to have to wait for a while I think.

After a little under 50 minutes of waiting, the last reporters are heading out. It's finally time for my interview now.

Hi Jogr, you were pretty terrific in the rink tonight. What do you think about tonight's game?

    - Hey. Yeah, I just had a great feeling tonight before the game. Wyane Gyrzky told me to have a burger before the game, so I had a Big Mac meal from McDonald's before the game. I am pretty sure that boosted my performance tonight. But you know, let's just keep this our secret okay? I don't want the coach to know about me doing this kind of stuff since I'm pretty new guy here. *Laughs*

Oh hahah. No I certainly won't tell anyone but you know this interview is going to the VHL page, right?

    - Oh my... I guess I am screwed then. *Laughs*

Hahah we'll see, we'll see.  I was pretty amazed by the goal you scored in the second period. You wanna tell me what happened?

    - Yeah that was a great goal. I really liked it. I have been practicing those moves for a while now and to be honest: I never thought I would use that in game but as you can see, anything can happen. I just had a really good spot to try it.

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. Your teammate, Ajay Krishna, had a great game aswell, shutout with 20 shots.

    - Ajay has been performing very well. I've only been in the team for couple of days, but I can already tell that one day Ajay is going to be a top goalie in VHL for sure. Tonight's game would have been easily  4-1 or 4-2 without Ajay performing on top of his game tonight. Ajay the great!

Ajay was great indeed. I see you've started to grow a mullet. Are you aiming to get as long as Jaromir Jagr had in the 1990's?

    - I think this doesn't surprise anyone but since I have a similar name as Jagr and I'm from Czech Republic too I just really want to kind of uhmm... how could i say this...continue his "legacy" you know? Long live the mullet!

That sounds like a good plan. There's never enough mullets in the hockey rink. I have no further questions. I just wanted to know I've followed your career since you started in Czech juniors. You're my favourite player.

    - Thank you very much, I appreciate it. If you ever feel like you want to do another interview or something like that, feel free to call my manager. I make sure to make up some time. Could have a beer or two aswell. Actually, don't put that last thing into the interview please. You know, coach could be reading...

I'm afraid it is already there. I am sorry.

    -  Okay. Sometimes I should just keep my mouth shut. First week here, and I've already told you that I had a Big Mac meal before the game + invited you to a beer. *Laughs*

Hahah yeah. I have no more questions but do you have anything you want to say or tell us?

    - Thanks for the interview. Oh man I have so many stories from the Czech Republic but I am not sure if they are appropriate at all. I think I will make my first wise choice in this interview and keep those stories for myself at least for now on.

But since you are asking I have one... I wanted to tell you about the name of our junior hockey team. I thought that Prague Plague was a great name until I learnt some English in school...what on earth were they thinking??  *Laughs*

All in all, I enjoy playing for Lynx. I have nice teammates and our coaching team is doing great job. I'm excited for the future. See ya around, fellas!

Interesting club name. I think I have to contact Prague Plague's staff and ask about the name. Pretty weird indeed. Thanks for the interview Jogr and keep the goals coming!

Joromir Jogr is currently playing for VHLM team Ottawa Lynx. So far he has scored 4 goals and 6 assists in 10 games. Stay tuned, I might call Jogr next week and ask some new questions...

Temppi got a reaction from DoktorFunk in Joromir Jogr's usual day-off routine
Hello everyone! It's Joromir here. I was asked to do a little story about my usual off-day routine. I used to do very different routine every day when I was living in Czech Republic, but things have changed a lot here in the United States. When I was still playing in Czech Republic like ages ago (to be honest I've been in United States for 3 weeks now) I used to eat so much less than nowadays. It was pretty weird at first but man, I really like the food here. Nothing beats my mother's home-made boar stew though. Oh, how I miss that stew, I wish the season was already over so I could go back home and eat that delicious stew all day! Okay I think I have to get back to the topic. So here we go, my usual day routine here in the States.

Wake up at 6 - 7 a.m.  - Gladly I've always been a morning person so this is not an issue for me. Usually I get up at 6 but sometimes I just got to get that extra hour of sleep. Mostly it's the night after a game. Except if I had a bad game, then it's 6 and not even a minute over.

I usually take a morning jog after waking up. Sometimes I do some yoga instead of jogging, it's really great stuff. Anyways, it's jog/yoga every morning and then I'll take a small breakfast break. I've been having a traditional english breakfast every morning for like 5 years now. With double bacon. I'm pretty sure that's why I've succeeded in hockey. I remember once I had an oatmeal for breakfast and i was 0+0 -2 in the game that night and it was just the 1st period. I also got a game misconduct in the end of the 1st period . I don't wanna talk about it. I'm not gonna eat that trash never again! Or maybe oatmeal with double bacon?

After breakfast I hit the gym. In the gym I do gym moves. After gym I take a sauna break. In the sauna I do sauna moves. As known as, sitting. Usually it's like 30 minutes of super intensive gym moves and 60 minutes in sauna doing super relaxing sauna moves. Feeling pretty slacky afterwards.

Sauna was so super intensive that I had to recover myself from it somehow. The clock is somewhere near 11 a.m. after all this madness and just to be honest here; I don't feel like doing anything else for the rest of the day. Usually i just fire up my Playstation and play some Fartnite with Potrik Loine. Potrik sucks in Fartnite by the way. Sometimes I just game for the rest of the day and even forget to eat until it's really late but usually I manage to order a pizza to keep myself fed so I have energy left for gaming. It's a shame that couple of my "Playstation buddies" are in different teams so my  schedules don't match theirs. If something that unfortunate happens, I just call my teammates and then we usually do a multi-course dinner at some luxus restaurant. It costs a lot, but why not? After all, we gotta keep ourselves fed.

In the evenings I usually just relax and try to go sleep early. Sometimes I take a small jog but that's very rare. Usually I'm going to sleep at 10 p.m. but there's some exceptions. I'm not sure if I should tell this but what the heck. Once me and the boys went for some of drinks in the evening and some of us had couple of too much. Man, that mandatory skate on the next morning was legendary. Coach was so happy that we're not gonna do that ever again for sure.

There's little bit of something about my off-day routine/schedule. Hope you guys liked it. Onto the next time.

Temppi got a reaction from DoktorFunk in Short catchup with Jogr
A short interview I did with Joromir Jogr through Skype:

Hi Joromir, how has the life been in the US so far?

    - Hey man, it's nice to chat with you again. I've been enjoying US so far, people here are very friendly and the food is awesome. I've gained like 8kg!

    Thats uhmm....great I guess?

    - Yes, I'm transforming this weight into muscles. You know, I want to be bigger so nobody has a chance of getting the puck away from me.

Oh I see. Sounds good. You've been playing very good hockey in the past weeks you've been here. 10 goals and 14 assists in 22 games. How do you feel?

    - Points are points. I don't really care about points. I only care about winning. But I think that if I score more points it really helps at getting wins.

You're right. If you keep performing at that level then I'm pretty sure that we'll see Ottawa having a long run.

    - That's what I'm hoping too. I think we have a good atmosphere in the team and we all enjoy playing here so I don't see any obstacles on our way.

That's good to hear. And you can really see that on ice too. You are playing very well together.

    - Thank you. I was kind of hoping to hear that. *laughs*

    Do you miss Czech Republic?

    - Well, I didn't miss it until I wrote an article about my off-day schedule to VHLforums earlier today. I talked about food here in the States and started to miss my mother's boar stew. Best food ever. I you ever visit Czech when I'm on vacation, don't hesitate to call me. We'll have some stew together.

Thank you very much for the invitation, If I'm there, I'll let you know for sure. Is there anything else you want to say?

    - Not really. Thanks for the interview and see you in the game. I'm going to dedicate my next goal to the boar stew.

    Thanks Jogr. Good luck!

And there goes Jogr. We'll see what plans the future has for him. Stay tuned.

Temppi reacted to Advantage in Board of Governors Updates
Good evening everyone, this will be the thread going forward that will keep all of you updated on what is happening in the Board of Governors.  As some of you may know this thread here had served as a place where @tfong would update the league with the titles of threads in the BOG.  With that being said, recently we have had a discussion about being more transparent, especially with what happened in regards to the Expansion Teams and the debacle that resulted afterwards.  Transparency has been something that we have been looking to provide for quite some time, but have tried to work around the fact that not everything can be public and we don't necessarily want to put people in an awkward position of providing controversial opinions that would be showcased for the entire league to see.

With Mr. Fong separating away from the Board of Governors and more into his role as Head Moderator, the Board of Governors have decided to revamp how they present their content to the league.  This idea was loosely inspired by @Mr_Hatter who had brought forth the idea of a third party coming into the BOG and breaking down the talking points rather than just us posting the title of a thread and leaving the rest of the league to imagine.  After some discussion and debate on whether or not we should have a neutral party do this, one of the Board of Governors do it or even a committee of BOG members, the Administrators and Board of Governors decided to go with the independent option and will be using myself as the new BOG Correspondent.

My goal is to provide everyone in the league with more context into the discussions we are having and break down the different views, with the idea that the league can comment on some of these potential back-and-forths.  We feel this is not only a great way to be transparent, but to also test the temperature of the league on some of the discussions.  Now obviously not everything will be posted (ban threads, potential league surprises, etc.) but I will make sure that everything else is not only posted, but that all the talking points are broken down for you as well.  Feel free to also comment and ask me questions as I want to be someone that you can come to with issues or opinions and I won't hesitate in bringing them up.

With that being said, I will be keeping this main post updated with the happenings and will probably post something every week or perhaps I will try and keep it as updated as possible when new things are being discussed. In addition, I will also post any closed discussions that have been ended in the last month.  These will be removed from the main post once they extend past the one month time frame.

    ACTIVE DISCUSSION

Topic - Hall of Fame Voting Reform (Discussion started June 22)

The Issue: The VHL has voted on the Hall of Fame for quite some time based on a system that allows you to vote up to two players in and you need 50% of the vote to be inducted.  This poster is concerned that during weaker classes, there is a higher likelihood that someone who does not deserve to be in the Hall of Fame will be voted in due to the lower benchmark to make it. We have also found quite often that we have been removing a lot of people recently added to the ballot due to their career resumes not matching up.

The Idea: Each voting member would have the ability to vote up to 3 or 4 people into the Hall of Fame (they can choose to vote less).  Players would require 70% of the vote to make the Hall of Fame, which is a 20% increase on the current standards.  Additionally, if a player were to receive zero votes in consecutive seasons, that player would be removed from the ballot entirely.  The idea is made in an effort to make the benchmark higher (thus seeing only deserving players make it) and eliminates the idea of players getting in on a weak class.  Said poster does admit that there could be an issue of players getting removed too soon due to the ballot elimination portion of the proposal.

The Commentary: A lot of the discussion has been centered around the part regarding players being removed, with some suggesting rather than two seasons with 0 votes that we could do three or five, with the idea that it likely lessens the likelihood of someone undeserving being removed from the ballot.  This is a concern to some with there being a lot of discussion regarding bringing certain players back to the ballot lately and with players like Mathias Chouinard, who was recently inducted into the VHL Hall of Fame after being removed from the ballot for more than three decades.

There has been some support for this proposal although a few members disagree that the current voting standards need to be altered and that no one that has gotten in has really been undeserving. The main poster making this point feels that it really doesn't solve any problems because there are no issues and have been none with how the league has been doing the Hall of Fame voting. The thread has gone in a few other areas too in regards to the ideas of players being returned to the ballot, as this is a very hot topic currently going on in Hall of Fame Discussion.

July 13 Update: There hasnt been much discussion on this regard and I could see this being a fully closed topic soon.  Since the last update the only new discussion has been continued skepticism of making the change to the way we vote for the Hall of Fame.

Most of the people commenting seem to feel that while the proposed system is fine, that the current system still works for what we look to accomplish when voting on the Hall of Fame.  In addition, it is simple and easy to adapt for the future as well.

One person did say that we could add an option to abstain from voting if they feel that no one deserves to be in which as someone already pointed out it is technically allowed.

Topic - VHLM and Deadline Recreates (Discussion started June 16)

The Issue: Recently a number of recreates joined forces on the Las Vegas Aces which caused a lot of complaints around the VHLM Community.  The concern seems to be that by doing this, it stacks a team and that the league can control this by putting in restrictions on the number of recreates that can join an individual team.

The Idea: The main idea by the original poster seemed to center around restricting ice time for recreates and that he had discussed with some VHLM GMs that the focus of the minors is to develop players so we need to make sure to put all players in the best position possible, regardless of them being a recreate or new.  The thread, ultimately, was posted to create more ideas so the commentary will have a lot of the ideas that have come up on how to potentially fix this issue.

The Commentary: First, a lot of members did not really have a problem with the idea of a team being able to go out and sign five or six players, if those players deem that they want to play for the same squad.  The most significant reason why seemed to be that these players, even with carryover, will not be as competitive as the top teams that generally have several 200+ TPE players as most initial recreates won't be past 120 TPE come playoff time.  Some members also feel that given there is a Dispersal Draft in the off-season anyway, we should allow deadline recreates to have their fun and play for whoever they want.  One member brought up that we could do a waivers system for recreates, but it seemed to get shut down fairly quickly with a lot of members feeling that everyone should get to pick their team for that twenty games and playoffs.

The discussion seemed to shift more towards roster construction and how we can avoid the truly awful teams that can surface in the VHLM, with the idea that we should be trying to jump all over all members joining and not just recreates.  A great example of this was a player that was highlighted who didn't receive a single contract offer until almost twenty hours after joining.  Once again, this goes to the focus that all teams (whether competing or not) need to have, and that is to make room for the actives.

One idea that did come up was in regards to only allowing recreates to play third line or lower, as it would let recreates go to whoever they wanted to but only play a limited role.  A few members disagreed with the idea as they felt it could really ruin the experience for anyone in this situation and could cause troubles with retaining our retiring members.

Finally, there was an idea that we could cap each VHLM Team at 3 recreates that they can sign come deadline time, which did receive a little support due to it being a slight tweak to the current system, but there hasn't been a significant amount of feedback on this idea.

July 13 Update: Discussion will likely close soon unless more issues arise, as the majority of discussion has been brought to the VHLM GM Forum.

With that being said, in the couple days of discussion since, the main thing that has been discussed is a continued focus on ridding teams of the non-actives that sit around 250 TPE and leave to have a VHLM career player.

As has been stated, its one thing if you are around and interacting with your team and the league but its another issue when the member no longer is here and their player is taking the roles that an active could have instead.

    CLOSED DISCUSSION

Topic - Maximum Backup Games Rule (Discussion started June 28 Closed on June 29)

The Issue: The Board of Governors and Administrators were made aware of an incident of potential intentional tanking by playing more backup games than required despite having another goalie on the team.  While the rules do indicate a minimum amount of games, the idea of intentionally tanking has always been an unwritten rule, but not something officially in the rulebook.

The Result: Discussion went back and forth on whether it was intentional or not, whether or not there should be severe punishment, do we need to add this a rule, etc.

Ultimately we took it to a vote which saw the individual and team not punished as while we saw it as intentional, the majority of the Board of Governors felt it would be unfair to punish based on something that isnt even in the rulebook.

However, we did decide to officially make this a rule in THIS THREAD which will serve as official legislation to avoid intentional tanking issues again.

The Board of Governors was certainly not unanimous in regards to the individual with some calling for the team to receive some pretty severe lunishments while others felt a tap on the wrist is fair given the lack of legislation.  Ultimately there were enough who saw it as unfair if we were to punish so the league moved on in that regard.

Topic - Restructuring the BOG (Discussion started June 13, Closed on June 17)

The Issue: With multiple members recently stepping down and/or being removed from the Board of Governors, the Administration Team decided that a revamp was necessarily and an opportunity was there to bring in a few new members.  Therefore, each BOG member was to put forth their top four candidates to add based on those who officially applied for the job position posted.

The Result: Acydburn, rjfryman, Doomsday and FonziGG were added to the Board of Governors team.

    ------------------------------

Topic - GM Application (Discussion started June 15, Closed on June 16)

The Issue: Based on tfong's idea regarding a running GM interest list, the Administration Team felt it was necessary to start keeping a running list of those members who are interested after the controversy that resulted from the Expansion decisions.  This thread was posted just to make sure that the language in the post made sense and that there was nothing missing as it seemed to already be a pretty unanimously popular idea with the league.

The Result: You can find the GM Application Thread here which was created in result.

    ------------------------------

Topic - Inclusion of all BOG in Staff Discord (Discussion started June 13, Closed on June 15)

The Issue: After the controversy in the Expansion Draft, it came out that some discussion happened in the Staff Discord, which some but not all BOG members have access to.  Therefore, the idea was brought up to include all BOG in the discord so that everyone can have their say and communicate effectively.

The Result: After some discussion regarding the idea of potentially creating a BOG Discord instead and leaving the Staff Discord for moderation issues, the point was instead made that we should just not be discussing BOG decisions off the forum so that everyone can participate equally.  This also led to the GM Application discussion and an admitting from some of the Administration that there needs to be better communication all-around.

    ------------------------------

Topic - The 'E' Word. Changes are Coming (Discussion started May 7, Closed on June 12)

The Issue: This was the Administrators telling the Board of Governors that Expansion would be happening and that they had already picked GM's who had been figuring out the team names.  It also had the details regarding Expansion Drafts, Draft Lotto, Non-Playoff Team Tournament, etc.  Essentially this was all discussed in the Blue Team Area, and they were just informing us.

The Result: There was some discussion about some of the decisions they had made but ultimately a lot of the thread was going through logos being discussed and team names as well.  Ultimately, this thread will have your new four teams to the league and all the other rule changes to accommodate their inclusion in the league.

    ------------------------------

Topic - Jericho's Post (Discussion started June 3, Closed on June 6)

The Issue: Discussion whether we should run a Donation Campaign regarding the BLM issues going on, and if so, what charities we should be donating to.

The Result: There was really no vocal opposition to the idea of running a campaign although some were concerned about coming off as too political.  As many of you know we destroyed our goals and were able to donate a significant amount of money ($1165 each) to both ACLU and Spirit North in an effort to help meaningful causes in regards to systemic racism in both Canada and the United States.

    ------------------------------

Remember that this is more than a thread that you can just read up on BOG Content as we encourage to provide your feedback on issues discussed and ask questions.  For those who will have questions, I will try to provide you with answers in a timely manner.

    Hi, It's Joromir Jogr here.

I was asked to tell a story and what are the odds! I just happened to have one story I wanted to share with you. It's about my old hockey stick.

This stick was everything to me when I was a kid. Old wooden hockey stick which was first owned by my great-grandfather. He carved it from scratch after the second world war. Luckily, he was still alive when I was old enough to listen and this was one of the stories he told me. Man, how I miss his stories now.

But the stick, yeah THE stick. My Great-grandfather (Jyrymir) first gave the stick to his son, Jurumir. Jurumir used to play in Czechoslovakia's national team with the stick even though national team offered brand new Koho's. Jurumir refused to use those because his father's self-made hockey stick was simply the best. Jurumir won many championships and still to this day, you can smell the champagne from the stick if you sniff it closely.

After Jurumir retired, the stick was so battle-scarred that it couldn't be used to play hockey. Jurumir gave it to his son Jirimir who just hang it in his trophy cabinet. Years passed and the stick was dusting in trophy cabinet untouched, until one winter when I was 6 years old Jurumir decided to give the stick a try. Jurumir gave the stick a big fat old school slapshot and not very surprisingly, it broke in half. Jurumir stood silent on the ice and after 5 minutes he picked up the pieces and gave the stick to me and told me to never lose it.

Still to this day, the pieces of this legendary hockey stick stand in my trophy cabinet. And forever they will.

Joromir "JoJo"Jogr grew up in Prague, the capital of Czech Republic. Since his birth, his father wanted him to an ice hockey player. Joromir's father was a passionate ice hockey fan and we can partially thank him for pushing Joromir ahead in the beginning. Joromir is really a natural talent, something that has not been seen in Czech Republic since the start of 90's when a similar named rookie entered The Show.  "JoJo" recalls, that he did not like ice hockey when he was young because he wasn't anywhere near the top at the start. He struggled in the beginning but learned very quickly, thanks to his hard work and determination. Joromir started skating at the age of four and ice hockey at the age of five. Surprisingly, his natural talent did not appear until he was 10 years old. Even at young age, Joromir made many heads turn with his terrific speed and puck control.

Joromir joined a local youth club called Prague Plague. Joromir had an option to pick his own jersey number which was very abnormal back then. Not sure if it was his or his dad's decision but he has been using #68 ever since.

At age 14, Joromir soon found himself not giving 110% to the sport. The skill gap between him and other players was too huge and he lost motivation. Joromir even considered retiring and getting a haircut and a real job. A couple of days after that he had a talk with his dad and finally decided to give everything he has to offer to hockey and start training more, harder and faster. Results began to show off how much potential he has. Simply put, he dominated the junior game any way he wanted to.

Four years later in June, Joromir, 18, was offered a contract from a US professional hockey team called The Ottawa Lynx. He accepted the offer and is now eager to prove himself on the US soil. Now it is time to score big.

Joromir is well-known for his size (6'2, 250lbs). He is very talented right winger with terrific offensive skills. His stickhandling is top-notch. Joromir is very strong and he is unstoppable in terms of puckhandling. He often leads the puck single-handedly. He is very dangerous goal-scorer but he also has graduated as a certified playmaker. At only 18 years old, he is already one of the brightest stars in Czech hockey.

Hello, my name is Joromir Jogr. I come from the land called Czech Republic. I do like ice hockey and as some of you might already guess I aim to win The Cup and be placed into the Hall of Fame.

I just started here, so I am still a bit confused about everything but I am learning. Hopefully everything will be much clearer in the coming days / weeks. I think this Victory Hockey League is a great idea and it is kind of a shame I just found this site yesterday.

Something about me... I was born and raised in the Czech Republic 18 years ago and I learned to skate when I was 4 years old. I started to play ice hockey when I was 6 years old and I have been on the same road ever since. Some might call it a hobby, some might call it a great way to spend your free time to, but for me, hockey is everything. It is my passion and my whole life right now. I am a skille forward. I used to play left wing when I was younger but soon I switched to right wing since it felt so much better and much more natural. And i was much more deadly on RW. Many general managers showed me some interest last night and I think I am going to get a professional contract soon. I can't be more excited.

See you on the ice. ?
