You are exaggerating. To make your point for sure but still. If I’m not mistaken didn’t you join when Higgins was still simming the M and we’d get 3-4 days missed at a time? Yet you’re still here. I’m not saying it’s perfect but I think it’s a bit extreme to say if a single day is missed all retention efforts disappear. It’s just not a good faith kinda debate tactic since it basically comes off as you saying if simmers aren’t machines everyone leaves. Personally I think there’s a compromise to be had here and it mostly starts with @Devise and I. Specifically that if a sim is going to be likely missed we simply ask someone else to cover it within a reasonable timeframe. I’m not saying a strict deadline or that backups must be ready every single night at 9PM sharp or what not just a simple request. “Hey, it’s a busy day. Could someone cover for me”. Worst case we find the time we didn’t think we’d have and we get it done anyway and no one needs to step in. This would be combined with 2 systems to make it easier. First, that lines get sent in a better manner. We’ve been working on this for a bit but there must be some way to make it work. Part of the issue of multiple email addresses is not knowing what’s been done and what hasn’t so lines and stuff can get missed; which we’ll also be given shit for but I digress. If we had a button to download any lines since the last sim we wouldn’t have the question. Second would be a more conscience effort to do things at the same time. We already try to be consistent and I will always argue against a set schedule but IN GENERAL if you guys would be able to say “sims are usually around 6 EST” (for example) then it would at least make you all look better. If we can’t get a sim done at our usual time at least what we can try to do is get on and post why. This would also be, worst case, when we ask for help.

1. I’m not streaming my sims for the same reason I have mentioned countless times before. I sim from Work on my lunch break. It’s a pain in the ass enough to teamviewer into my sim computer to do it without also needing to set up and control a stream. I’ll do it in the playoffs when it’s more important but not on a daily basis. I don’t see how that is here or there to this conversation though. 2. No one is shutting it down. All we’re saying is that you are making it out to be an end of the world style situation when we’re perfectly consistent 97% of the time. That number by the way I’m not pulling out of my ass, that’s assuming 4 missed sims (so two per league per season which almost never happens) out of 84 (42 days for an average season, 2 leagues). We aren’t machines. 97% consistency is pretty damn good and far and away not a bloody pattern. 3. My issue from the get go in here hasn’t been the suggestion or the discussion it’s been the attitude you’re showcasing. Cool that and the discussion is going to go much better for you to be honest. I’m trying to be civil here but you’re basically coming in and saying we’re single handedly ruining retention by not being sim bots. Not originally but that’s what it’s starting to run into. People can disagree with you without it needing to get nasty. 4. We’ve already explained that it is an official position in that Quik and Josh already do it. I’m not seeing how we need more than that. Perhaps some more official structure but I don’t think brushing off Quik’s concerns, which are valid, does much to the discussion of that structure. I don’t see us needing more simmers, that’s just likely something gets stomped on that shouldn’t. Better communication maybe, I dare say probably, but not more simmers. 5. As I’ve already stated many times even before this thread but also a few times in here, we aren’t scheduling sims. This is a hobby for everyone, not a job. We try to be as consistent as we can do you guys can notify people if they ask but it’s not reasonable to say that anyone, be that main simmer, backup simmer, or whatever you want to call it should have to be on daily at a set time, 7 days a week, without fail. It is a hobby, not a job. There’s no reason we should treat it as a job. I get wanting more consistency but we’re people too and I want you to understand that.
-
The thing that’s being ignored is that we literally have backups in place already. I’m not sure if this is an extra job that’s needed really because we already have them. Devise and I can cover each other and Quik / Josh are on standby. I feel like it’s moreso we need formalized “this is when to step in” guidelines more than we need to add simmers. For example last week I realized that it was super late and I had gotten busy and forgot to sim. I pinged Josh and he did it no problem. We just need to formalize that kind of system so that if I had actually completely forgotten someone would step up immediately.

Leaving a comment so I don’t forget to watch this later. Years of Boubabi giving me GFX criticism so now with him in my world it’s my turn

We flip back and forth every season so both leagues are covered and tbh Devise is no less consistent than I am, just on a different schedule. It's pinned so it doesn't get buried and the league has always been run on the forum. If people refuse to use the place where the league is run then that's unfortunate for them but discord isn't built for this kind of thing. Even if we mentioned stuff in there it would be buried in 5 minutes. I think having expectations on simmers is fine but there's a certain degree of expectation on members that you are ignoring here. Saying everything needs to be convenient for everyone except the people taking the time out of their day to do the work is a bit extreme. We do it every single day for ~42 days in a row. No breaks, no time off. I'm not saying it's the hardest job in the world but sometimes stuff is going to come up. I'd expect with anything more strict people would just get more frustrated when things do but it's hard to say because we've never had this level of consistency before. Again, both of us sim both leagues, we go back and forth. Consistency is there from both of us just slightly different timing. As I said, I'm not opposed to a more strict "this is when the backup takes over" time, just needs to be something reasonable. If we said 9PM EST for example then I think we would need someone who's west of that time zone. Otherwise it's getting pretty late to be reasonable to say they need to stay up and watch the forum for sims. Personally I've got a family and work full time, I'd be in bed by then since it's 10 for me. You get what I mean? Disagreeing and having a discussion is not invalidating. The discourse from both sides also needs to be considered. 1 missed sim doesn't = a pattern of inconsistency and that alone is rather insulting to walk into and will put up a guard immediately. Let's just remember that everyone is a person with a life on the other end of the screen as well and try to keep this civil.

Not counting off-season an average season is 6 weeks, that’s 42 straight days of sims. We can’t miss a day, we can’t miss a signing, we can’t miss a trade, we can’t miss a line change. For the most part we still do it at the same time each day, every day, 42 days in a row. All we’re asking for is a tiny bit of flexibility to choose what time it happens during the day because our lives aren’t perfect and I can’t say with certainty that I can aim at the exact same minute 42 days in a row. Personally that’s why this framework is bothersome to see. It’s not that I’m against consistency it’s that the idea that we are expected to do a perfect job 42 days in a row, have a week or two off, then repeat endlessly is perfectly fine. If we don’t do that, if god forbid life happens and something gets missed then we are single handedly responsible for members leaving. I don’t think anyone is trying to make that case but that’s 100% how it’s coming across. A schedule for me doesn’t seem necessary. We tend to aim around the same time each day, if someone asks it’s easy to say “usually around 6.” People don’t need a 100% set answer because life doesn’t always allow for that. I am fine having a more set deadline time for a backup to come on but if that’s 9PM EST (for example) we need to make sure that the backup is someone west coast because having someone’s job be to stare at the forum into the night every single day doesn’t make sense.

I mean I can’t speak for Devise but I’ve never Simmed at midnight. It’s either at lunch or after supper so noon or 7ish Atlantic. On ridiculously rare occasions it’s in the morning but that happens maybe once every few seasons.
-
Peak times is super dependent on time zone for what it’s worth. Let’s say peak is 7pm. So for someone like Beav in the west coast that’s 11pm for me which is Obviously not going to fly. It isn’t like there’s presentation to go with it that people need to see live.
-
Also it’s my weekend too, I’m busy. I simmed mine. Devise tends to sim later than me so I’m giving him that chance. Like I said, if he doesn’t then I will.
-
I would hardly say there is a consistent pattern. This happens maybe once or twice a season at most. So in an 8 week period you might get 2 days without super consistent sims. I’d hardly say that’s a pattern. Devise already said he’s going to double sim tonight to make up for it, he announced that awhile ago. If it isn’t done by morning I’ll do it myself. This is a problem with solutions already in place. I get the concern but I just don’t appreciate, and I’m sure neither would @Devise, the implication that the most consistent simming the league has ever had is a “pattern of inconsistency”.

Well if he retired and re-created at the deadline there wouldn’t be late joiner bonus. -

Or that I suppose so long as he doesn’t earn anything this week. -

You’d need to retire this guy for that but since it’s so close we can move your carryover to the new guy so nothing lost -
@Jubis wasting no time! I know it’s likely not what you expected when you signed in Vancouver as a FA but all the same, welcome to Calgary @flyersfan1453! You’ll like it here, we win.

For a couple of weeks now @Bushito has been dealing with some personal issues. As a league we completely respect that members need to have priorities outside the league and would rather he be able to focus on what he needs to without worry about the VHL on top of everything. However the team still needs leadership in the meantime. For that reason @Jubis, who has been running the team as AGM, has officially been named interim GM of Calgary starting immediately. He may perform trades, offer contracts, do lines, etc. Any tasks of a normal GM. Thank You, @Commissioner

Create Structure and Transparency with GM/AGM Candidates

Agree to disagree. I’ve been around for every expansion the league has ever had. The ones where people saw it coming (DC and Prague being probably the worst with Moscow being bad as well) has no hype behind them. By the time the logos and locations and everything are announced people don’t care because they were excited about it 2 months before when they heard. Drop it as bombshell news and it’s just that, news. Mention it and then go radio silent and people stop caring. I’m not saying everything was handled perfectly or smoothly but dropping the largest expansion in league history as a footnote wouldn’t go well either IMO. -

I can’t speak for everything but I know Beaviss has been very worried lately about how much was leaking out of the BOG in recent seasons. I’m not saying it justifies every decision but that’s what he meant by lack of trust. Something this large didn’t leak out which is obviously a good sign. -

All of which were off-season changes that we knew were coming if I recall. That’s the trickiness. It’s easy to discuss when we have time but when someone up and leaves in the middle of a season there isn’t a ton of time to discuss their successor. In the case of expansion we probably could have been more open about it. We wanted to get going quickly mind you because we wanted the GM’s to have a say in their teams and logos take a long time to sort out. -
Boom’s return: confirmed

I knew I was missing some, forgot their induction hasn’t been added to the portal.
-
FWIW you’ve had more team options than I ever had as well. For most of my time here there were only 8 teams. I’ve played on all those.
-
Dare I ask? Every time I go to bed it seems discord blows up. Doesn’t help me like it any more.

Congratulations, you just killed all the hype for the largest expansion the league has ever seen by telling everyone it’s coming. That announcement got people way more excited than any of the other expansions because it wasn’t leaked in advance like every other time. I’m fine saying there’s a possibility that we should have some general community pools without giving specifics (aka just an open “where should teams be” lost that isn’t specifying anything will necessarily happen) but it’s boring if everyone knows everything all the time. Our intention has never been to cut you guys out. Having a turnover rate as high as we have and changeovers in the middle of the season unfortunately means we can’t take a week of discussing the merits of everyone while a team, or worse a VHLM team, sits without someone at the helm. We’ve already committed ourselves to being better in both regards though. Open applications more and use the BoG more. We’ve been iffy on both lately. At least personally I think the staff channel we made on discord helped to make this worse. I don’t know about anyone else but personally I forgot BOG weren’t in there. Wasn’t necessarily trying to hide just forgot who couldn’t see it. -
I’ve been here since S1 and have still never played for Vancouver in any capacity. Or any of the new expansions except Malmo.

Oof, been awhile since this was opened up. We have a couple of holes in the BoG to fill. As usual for this post we are looking for highly dedicated members who are interesting in voicing their opinions on a number of league related things. There is no pay associated with this job and we expect a lot of activity in regards to it. Feel free to send me applications via PM if you are interested.
