Claimed:Blades of Steel: Episode 14 w/Seth (The Name Game)

Well, I'm glad I have support on the matter now haha. Friends were tough to find back then. I'm kinda surprised I even came back. I was gone for about 2 weeks before Scotty came on MSN (indicating how long ago this really was haha) and talked me into returning. Also, Green, I agree with you on the rubric being BS at the time. It's been fixed quite a bit since then to actually account for different things and be clear. Everyone defended it at the time but it really did make no sense. As you said, nothing could be "100% original" so what exactly is that supposed to mean? This is why I should be in the Builder HoF, just saying. I fixed those rules up, VHL Martyr really -

Oh I know, the league has certainly come a long way. Keep in mind, that punishment was not what the topic originally said. Brooks was defending me somewhat at first. It wasn’t until others came with with “suggestions” that the punishment got so strict. As for what I did or did not do, it’s a middle ground. TECHNICALLY I was caught re-using things. Those things, as I explained above, were kinda rips and kinda not. It’s a hazy area. Certainly people have done worse and gotten a slap on the wrist but as I said, things have come a long way since then. -
Well, I was excited to play NBA 2K14 tonight but my internet has other plans it seems. Started the download over an hour and a half ago and it’s only at 15%. I miss the fiber op I had at home

Claimed:Blades of Steel: Episode 14 w/Seth (The Name Game)

It's hard to classify really, it's also been quite a while. In public opinion I was banned from updating for ripping. In hindsight it kinda was ripping and it kinda wasn't. I wasn't ripping in the sense that I took a sig, replaced the render and text, and called it my own. Rather I collected PSD tutorials, went through them, and re-created everything as best I could. Basically I ripped a few layers (stocks I didn't have) and the "look" of sigs. It doesn't make it good and I'm aware of that but I was a stupid kid, I didn't really think anything of it. That's part of the story at least. The other part is that those charges of "ripping" only got tacked on after the fact. Initially it was just that I had used "the same sigs" in multiple leagues. Basically I had done what I just stated above but did, in fact, take the render and text out to fit the needs. I still used my re-created ones so it was my work but not "100% original" as the rubric states. That rule has never really been a clear as it should be IMO but that didn't exactly stop the witch hunt that ensued at the time. I can't recall what the exact punishment was now and while the topic does still exist, the main post has been edited to reflect the changes. If I recall though, 1mill was removed from me and I had to give up the TPE I had earned. That was about it though; at least until everyone started shouting for my head and Brooks changed his mind on the matter. Not to justify it in any way but I have seen people caught for worse and they've received much less. I was sorta just the league scape goat early on I guess. That clear things up a bit? I feel I may regret this (I fully regret reading through it again) but if you can see stuff on the old board the topic is still up: http://z11.invisionfree.com/vhl/index.php?showtopic=926&st=0 -

It was more Brooks than Scotty who handed that out. Plus, at the time, he didn't even want it to be that harsh. Originally Brooks was going to remove the points from the PT's that were copies (I don't want to dig into this anymore than I have in the past) and then tack on like a 2-3 week PT ban. But then everyone kinda came in kicking and screaming, one thing led to another, and by the time I came online to defend myself Brooks had been talked up to making it a full season ban. It was a whole big mess and I could put more blame down (I know who mostly talked him up) but it's not worth it anymore. The way I see it, shit happened and I can't change that. I just look at it now as my way of helping shape the rules haha -

Sharpe in the HoF haha, I wish. Nice to know someone doesn't believe in my "reputation" though, even if I kinda knew your view on the matter already. -
Nothing to feel bad about here at all. They are a different style but that's a good thing. Some really good work here.

Just got NBA 2K14 as well, gonna download tonight. Gotta love Playstation Plus. I don't even know how many $40-$60 games I've gotten in the last year and I only paid 50 bucks for it. Well worth the price. Would be really nice if it allowed me to remotely turn my system on though so I could download while at work. The automatic updates will turn my system on but only in the middle of the night with how its currently set.

A MacBook actually can fulfill those (rather low) requirements, price aside. It's pretty clear that the MacBook is not what you want though so I won't suggest it. Someone that close minded to all things apple would hate it anyway. Besides, it doesn't run STHS natively and that's all you're good for Anything with decent specs from ASUS or Toshiba should be fine. Avoid Acer, HP and gateway like the plague.

QuickTime Pro can record your screen without needing to download anything else. The FPS is iffy at best though. I might have a license for a screencap software lying around if you'd like it. Assuming I can make sure that I have another copy.

Way to care if I was alright there Jardy Definitely wasn't as close as Tyler but it was kinda crazy all day. I had to come into work at one point in the afternoon (since they apparently just HAD to get drives to shoot on last night) and it was like a jacking ghost town. I'm just glad they caught the guy without any further incident.

Was originally just going to do the intro animation but then I decided that a 7 second animation didn’t seem like enough effort. Also, for the sake of honesty, I followed a tutorial for part of that. So, I decided to follow Kendrick’s idea and piece together a whole trailer. Sure I don’t have a credits list but hey. Computer trouble made this take awhile so I think I turned out quite well all things considered. Here’s hoping the audio doesn’t get flagged; I really should get to buying those packs. Please try to grade quickly so that I can avoid the issue haha.

Wasn't the last PC version of the NHL games in like 08? Not only would we have the issue stated above with using an NHL game but we'd have shit graphics on top of that.
-
If the NHL felt the need to pursue it they could have the content taken down because they do own the rights. Gaming falls slightly different because the user is partly shaping the content. Fact is they won't because it's not worth the legal battle if someone contests it. For example though, if we monetized the content get could legally take it down because we would technically be making money on it.
-
It would also be basically pointless. A slides show would basically just be some stills (of what on top of that) with VoiceOver. That would be kinda lame if you ask me. We have an interesting concept here that would work well on "film" if we have the footage. @Victor Interviews are key, usually it only cuts away to prove a point or hide a cut (a lot more often than you'd think). If we had enough people with decent footage though, combined with enough people getting recordings, we could have something though. Would just need B-Roll and for people to have decent audio quality.
-
I think it would be more interesting to go without NHL material. B-Roll stuff could be tricky but it would give the VHL more of an identity. I feel like if we used NHL stuff it would just make this feel like a sports fantasy league or something which it isn't. My current vision, as explained in the other topic, is a mini-doc series of like 4 episodes. Interviewing members, founders, etc. I just can't quite figure out the logistics of it all. I know I have a high end HD camera, tripod, lighting, mic, etc but I know most people don't so getting matching quality isn't exactly easy. Doing shorts branded under the VHL would be fun too. Again though, with so few members ACTUALLY knowing each other the challenges are apparent.
-
You'd be amazed. As for the logos and general style, I wasn't going to say anything for risk of hurting Kendrick's grade but I'm 99% sure that stuff is all from the trailers presets inside iMovie. Kendrick can correct me if I'm wrong. Either way, we wouldn't want copyright stuff in general. You're getting into messy territory when you start dealing with rights.
-
That was a mock trailer, I'm talking making something ourselves, likely a doc as I discussed in that topic. Using NHL footage is obviously out of the question. I know how much the rights for that stuff costs. This isn't to discuss creating a film from NHL footage though, it's creating a brand of our own.
-
Kendrick's topic got closed, being a PT and all, so I wanted to start a discussion topic for the possibility of a VHL films project in order to continue the discussions that we started. Feel free to check out the original topic (link below) and add to the discussion. http://www.vhlforum.com/index.php?/topic/8543-vhl-movie-trailer/#entry78971

Keep in mind that Seattle can't have two teams
-
What exactly are they doing? I haven't heard anything.

I've even got a green screen and access to keying software haha. Unfortunately I'm quite miserable on camera. Would be up for cutting that kinda thing though. The problem becomes the logistics. To get footage for stuff like that would involve people sending video files to other members. None of these would match quality wise (being from different cameras) and moving that much footage is challenging at best. I do like the idea though if we can get the ball rolling. Like I said, a short doc (5-10 minute kinda thing) could actually be rather interesting. A series of them even. 4 episodes or so. 1 explaining the history of sim leagues, 1 explaining the history of the VHL, 1 talking to members and getting the general opinion on things, and the last one looking forward. Could be rather interesting and pretty easy to cut.
-
If we were serious about making higher quality VHL videos we could possible get donation funding for a pro account. Would require a lot of content though. P.S I enjoy how I did casting but a director / writer did editing you've clearly never seen how massively confused most directors are with editing programs haha
-
I always forget that, probably since I've never hit it haha
