    🔥WE HAVE A WINNER! 🔥

Congratulations to the biggest of brains, the mate of the check, the champion of the S75 VHL Chess Tournament....

With the whole Chess Club watching, Nik successfully navigated a little-used opener that @hedgehog337 hoped he wouldn't be ready for. Hedgehog played a bit too passively, without ever challenging the black king. Nik had trouble closing out the game, needing 7 checks in a row to force Hedge to resign (the computer says with two more moves, Nik would have checkmated).

You can watch the replay of their game here. (h/t to Berocka for sharing the link with the club)

Nik's victory comes with the ultimate reward: an invite to defend his title at the S76 Chess Tournament!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the tournament, and for those who missed the registration but joined the Chess Club server anyways. I'm looking forward to our next match!

    1. Week one has been pretty fun, my guy has been decent but is getting better. Overall the team just needs to get on track and everything will be good.
    2. I’m at around where I expected to be, not elite yet but close to it.
    3. Team needs to focus on improving our defensive ratings
    4. Ability to talk to many people and have good interactions
    5. Ham, I like meat a lot, ham is just all around good on any holiday
    6. Cowboy, that guy is crazy and seems like he’d have a lot of good stories

n the S75 VHL draft, the Riga Reign went big getting Addison McLaren, Cabe Mcjake, Nikolas D’Andrea, and Vivek Weiner. These players are all connected not just by the team that drafted them, but the team who they player for last year, the S74 Founders Cup champion Miami Marauders. The Marauders completed one of the craziest Cinderella runs in all of VHLM history, defeating the heavy favorite Halifax 21st in a heavily contested rollercoaster 7 game series, again going into another 7 game series against a very strong Los Vegas Aces  team who almost completed a reverse sweep. After slaying the dragon and overcoming the Ricer curse, the Marauders made quick work of the Mississauga Hounds, completing a 4 game sweep and capturing the Founders Cup. The main points of drafting these 3 players are, championship pedigree, clutch factor, and overall activity. The Miami Marauders were amazing at keeping their team locked in and engaged in the locker room, which ultimately led to the success of the team as every player kept upgrading their players every week. This is something the Reign need desperately as they are in rebuild mode, which requires them to turn their picks into players who will grow and develop to slowly mold their team together over time, which will pay dividends in the long run as they don’t have to worry about picking the highest tpe players, instead finding players who are going to continue to grow at a high rate. Both Mcjake and McLaren are constantly at the top of weekly earnings, shine light onto the ever growing new generation of Riga Reign hockey. As for D’Andrea, he started as a late acquisition during the late season playoff push for the Marauders, contributing points whenever he could, provided the needed depth the Marauders needed to go the distance in the playoffs. He will most certainly need more time to season in the VHLM before he’ll be able to make an impact in the big league. Along with the Miami boys, the Reign also picked up Dolant Fertitta, a star left winger who played with Halifax the past season, has a great scoring touch and overall strong offensive skill set, as well he has a very strong defensive game which will add up to a strong player to add for the Riga Reign. Along with Fertitta, Riga also selected Joe Kelly, and all around Center who played for Halifax, his skill set is similar to Fertitta’s he brings good chem and skill to this bright Riga team. Also I’m the first round, Riga selected Sirkants Klamasteris, a goalie who played for Ottawa this past season, he had a .889 save percentage and a sub 3 GAA, which is very good stats for a goalie at age 25. In round 2 the Reign had back to back to back picks, selecting Justin Lose, Linus Zetterstrom, and Artair McCloud. Overall 3 very smart picks, all players seem to be very active and strong base players which help build the core of the Reign team. In the 3rd and 4th the Reign went with Isau Damoose, Teppo McBighit, Andy Nexber, Connor Sim, and Liam Fischl. Riga’s draft continued to take many players to create a great pool of prospects to bolster a strong start to the draft. The remainer of the draft, Riga’s GM focused on taking players who showed activity throughout the season, along with Matt Sovick Jr. A galore who also played for the Marauders the past season, continuing to grow a championship atmosphere in the locker room. Overall the Riga Reign had an amazing draft, which hopefully will continue to push a successful rebuild through activity in the locker room and on the portal.

My time with the Miami Marauders, although very short as I joined halfway through the season, has been very enjoyable because the entire atmosphere of the team, and the people throughout the league as a whole, is very welcoming and helpful. There has not been a single person who I have encountered that has been rude or in any way mean, everyone is nice and makes participating in the league feel like you’re actually a part of something more than just a sim. My teammates and the management are all active and focused on developing the team and making sure we keep updating and upgrading our players, as well as staying active in the chat and being friendly. Overall there is just so much to do to keep you invested in the team and your player, the opportunities to do tasks to upgrade keeps you wanting to do something to increase your player, which makes it satisfying to see the work pay off in the sim.
Now that my team is in the playoffs, it’s awesome to be able to see results daily and be excited or disappointed when your team wins or loses. When we pulled the massive upset on Halifax in the first round, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t at least a little bit excited and happy when the discord chat started going crazy when we won. Now, where there’s a tight series with the Aces, it’s gonna be legitimately nerve wracking waiting for the results as the next game might be the last time that I get to play for the Marauders, or the last time playing with some of the players that might be moving up to the VHL or the ones that might get drafted by other teams in the next VHLM draft. As I play junior hockey in real life, this feeling is one I get for real as I’ve had good buddies traded to other teams and I have teammates who are gonna be gone at the end of the year. I feel pride in my team as we worked hard to be in the position we’re in now, we battled into the playoffs and we battled to beat Halifax, and now we’ll battle to beat LV tomorrow.
Overall the experience I’ve had with the VHL as of right now is very positive, people like Ricer and Z and really the whole team have been very welcoming to me and all the other guys who joined late into the season. The VHL is a great league with a bunch of amazing people who make you feel right at home when you join the league, which really makes you wanna keep coming back every day to continue gaining TPE to help your team improve and win more. I couldn’t say enough things to explain just how fun being apart of this league is, the community that has been built is very strong and I’m glad that I became a part of it

I think we can, we were on a great win streak but the past couple days have been a bit tougher. We’ll get back on track Just overall the new people we’ve brought in give us a lot of depth for the future  Defense, it’s the biggest team need right now I wouldn’t change the name, the name is sick  Soccer, the sport is 90% passing back and forth. I do like fifa tho because it’s faster paced than the actual game  Dog person definitely, I have 2 dogs and 2 cats

    1. As one of the new additions, I’m really liking the group of players that we have here in Miami

    2. It’s my first week here in the VHL but I’ve earned over 11 points so far this week. 5 for a junior review, 4 from welfare, and 2 from practice

    3. Yes we can, we just picked up 2 big wins against Saskatoon and San Diego and I could see the boys push it into a new gear and really surprise the entire league

    4. We could pick up a D-Man possibly, I think we’re pretty short only having 3 defensemen

    5. Buffalo Sabres without a doubt

    6. Toronto, Boston, Dallas
