  1. Graphic courtesy of Leandrofg (Marcel's stats/Daniel's stats) When last we reported from our intrepid heroes, Vasteras was leading in the final series 2-1 by wins. Let's see how they fared in the time elapsed since then. 4-0 The first match in this review brought the tie, as the Red Wolves defeated the Iron Eagles 4-0, despite a 40-47 shots deficit. Istanbul scored two goals in the first period on even strength. They barely managed to shut the door in the second frame when Vasteras outshot them 8-18. In the final period, the Turks doubled the lead with two more goals with parity in numbers. The three stars were awarded to Murdock (47 saves), 2st (2g/1a) and Busser (1g/1a). Obviously, it was Murdock's flawless performance in net who kept the Wolves in the game and Jute (.900) out of the competition in the goalie race. Vasteras sinned in the power play with zero goals in six attempts, but was spotless on the penalty kill. Marcel left the rink with 0g, 0a, -2, 3 hits and 1sb. 3-2 In the second match up, Vasteras reinstated the one game lead in a 3-2 victory. Marcel with one of his rare goals opened the score (his first in the VHLE post season ever). The Swiss defender intercepted a pass from Crumb and sent Maple on a journey. The forward shoots, but his attempt is blocked by Crumb who wanted to redeem himself for giving away the disc so easily. However, Janser inherits the orphaned puck and slaps it bar down for the 1-0 lead. Alas, the lead is short lived, as Istanbul times the game for the second period. After the break Cat and Mathias with his premier on the power play sealed the deal for the Wolves. Istanbul's goal in the third was only a consolation price and could not be repeated to equalize the score. Cat (1g/1a), Jute (38 saves) and Bond (1g/0a) were named the stars of the night. The German netminder between Vasteras' pipes had the upperhand (.950) in the duel against Murdock (.885). Vasteras' power play was okay (1/4) and the box play immaculate (4/4). Marcel was recorded with 1g, 0a, +0, 2 PIM (Hooking, no effect on the score) and 4sb. The stats for Marcel for this playoff run are as follows: 9gp, 1g, 4a, 5pts, +3, 4 PIM, 10 hits, 25sb Kindly tune in for the next game. https://vhlforum.com/topic/124101-a-tale-of-two-brothers-hot-in-the-city/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/125122-a-tale-of-two-brothers-a-dark-horse-on-the-rise/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/125211-a-tale-of-two-brothers-express-train-to-the-final/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/125317-a-tale-of-two-brothers-all-the-good-things/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/125486-a-tale-of-two-brothers-final-in-the-vhle/ GM 18: Istanbul Red Wolves vs. Vasteras Iron Eagles (vhlportal.com) GM 19: Vasteras Iron Eagles vs. Istanbul Red Wolves (vhlportal.com)
  2. Partly true, if he still lives in the same household as JCarson, the best VPN does not help....
  3. Phew, dodged a bullet to not having to play for Sam... no seriously, I hate to see you go as a GM, but I understand the reasons why you have to make this decision (after all it takes a while to learn German and to get your education). I hope we will still have some opportunities to chat though.
  4. 1. another season with the Wranglers of course, trying to improve my game further and become the two-way forward Calgary deserves. 2. Since we have a bunch of TPE addicted competitive players in our squad, Ricer will have to juggle around with the cap. We have seen the likes of Seattle and Moscow let go Veteran players to make cap space for their prospects (or at all for that matter). 3. Yes and no. Yes, because the principles remain the same. No because you do not have to deal with cap in the E plus you only have to adjust to a limited amount of build as the players are all between 200-400 TPE and the variations are more limited than in the VHL. 4. Probably the former as GMing in the VHLM is more about retention whereas the AGM has more insight in GMing a VHL Franchise (unless they are only used for doing the PC). 5. I am cross dominant which is only a minority of people (cross dominant in this context means that I hold the gun with my right, dominant hand but aim with my left dominant eye). 6. not as much as NA scouts still seem to believe. One of the highest scoring players in my club is 168cm and 67kg (5'6'' and 148lbs for you imperialists out there). You just cannot afford to be slow if you are somewhat short and lightweight.
  5. I get your point. At the same time, the offended party needs to realise that the Istanbul Red Wolves of the VHLE (a VIRTUAL hockey franchise) has absolutely no relation to the 'organisations' in Turkey. What if a John Doe from New York City once did harm to me and now I am offended by anyone who is called John Doe and happens to come from New York, but has never even talked to me? Who would be the racist (or whatever you want to call it) be in such a scenario?
  6. if you want to have a job done properly, you have to do it yourself...
  7. Graphic courtesy of Leandrofg (Marcel's stats/Daniel's stats) Three games in the Renaissance Cup final have been played and we will jump right into the summaries. 3-6 Vasteras immediately loses their home ice advantage in a 6-3 loss to Istanbul. The Red Wolves scored two goals in the first period against Puk's power play goal. The second frame saw a single Turkish goal before the teams headed into the final period. The final period was a roller coaster with Istanbul first increasing their lead by one with a power play marker, which was negated by Young's goal. The Wolves responded with two back to back goals before Puk netted for the final score. Busser (2g/2a), Hoodie (2g/1a) and Marconi (2g/1a) were named three stars. Jute (.854) was clearly inferior to Murdock (.923) and was not able to help his team win the match. Vasteras' power play was lacking (1/9) and the penalty kill was not helping either (1/2). Marcel was credited with 0g, 1a and +1. 4-5 (OT) Istanbul was able to win at home by the smalles margin in a 5-4 OT win. Vasteras scored a brace in short succession by Cat and Puk, before Istanbul tied the game with two markers within two minutes. The Iron Eagles, not to be outdone, scored the period winner with Love's first post season goal in this campaign. In the second frame, it was Young who doubled the lead with a power play goal. Istanbul equalized the score with a very early power play goal and a very late even strength marker. Sudded death it was. Former Hound Bond delivered the dagger on another power play. Jute (.868) was again not able to steal the game for his team against a solid, but by no means stellar Murdock (.909). The three stars went to Busser (1g/3a), AL (1g/2a) and Hoodie (0g/3a). Vasteras' power play was sub par (1/6) and so was their boxplay (4/6). In such tight games, the special teams can be the tip on the scale and they were in this match as the game winner and one of the goals leading to the equalizer were scored on the man advantage. Marcel had 0g, 0a, +0, 2 PIM (Hooking, no effect on the score), 1 hit and 5sb to his name. 0-2 After having lost two games in a row, Vasteras was out for blood and they got it in a 2-0 victory. Especially Jute was seeking for redemption as his saving rate left much to be desired. Live with a power play marker and Coaster sealed the deal for the Swedes. Both premiered in the post season with their respective markers and for the latter it was even the first goal of the season. The jury named Jute (19 saves), Live (1g/0a) and Coaster (1g/0a) for the post match honours. Obviously Jute was the hero with his shutout against a strong Murdock (.943). Vasteras' power play has still room for improvement (1/7) whereas the penalty kill was not even asked to show up as the disciplined Iron Eagles did not take any penalties. Marcel logged 0g, 1a and +1 for his colours. The young Swiss defender shows the following stats for the post season: 7gp, 0g, 4a, 4pts, +5, 2 PIM, 7 hits, 20 sb While Marcel is not dazzling the viewers with points, he is amongst the top ten for +/- and shots blocked (both good for 6th of the league) and has only served two minutes in the sin bin (and such penalty was not converted). It is safe to say, that the Swiss back does the small things right and focuses on keeping the puck out of the danger zone. He does so with brain rather than brawn, evidenced by the few penalties he has taken sofar. Keep tuned for further updates. https://vhlforum.com/topic/124004-a-tale-of-two-brothers-approaching-the-half-way-mark/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/124101-a-tale-of-two-brothers-hot-in-the-city/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/125122-a-tale-of-two-brothers-a-dark-horse-on-the-rise/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/125211-a-tale-of-two-brothers-express-train-to-the-final/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/125317-a-tale-of-two-brothers-all-the-good-things/ GM 15: Vasteras Iron Eagles vs. Istanbul Red Wolves (vhlportal.com) GM 16: Vasteras Iron Eagles vs. Istanbul Red Wolves (vhlportal.com) GM 17: Istanbul Red Wolves vs. Vasteras Iron Eagles (vhlportal.com)
  8. Well I guess that during the Meta-era, veteran VHLers did not feel like creating goalers as they were blasted to kingdom come by everyone and their mothers. I feel there were more goalkeepers recreated in the past two seasons (having a one-to-one conversion of TPE into Attribute points certainly helped that trend)
  9. with the exception of Ben, Calgary was not very lucky with their netminder picks in the 80s (on the other hand you only need to get lucky once with goalers)
  10. Some of my all time favourites are 'Married with Children', 'Big Bang Theory', Game of Thrones and Sherlock

  15. Graphic courtesy of Leandrofg (Marcel's stats/Daniel's stats) Since we last reported from the Jansers, Marcel has progressed to the finals with his squad and Daniel was swept by the Dragons. Let's jump into the summaries, shall we? 4-3 (OT) In a very tight game which could have gone either way (and in fact, judging by the shots only, should have gone to Cologne), the Iron Eagles defeated the Express in a 4-3 sudden death decision. All started well for the German contender, when they scored a couple of goals late in the first period, the later of the two on a man advantage. The second period remained without a marker. In the final frame, Cologne extended their lead to a three nothing advantage. They scored thirty seconds after face off, converting a high-sticking penalty by Cat from the previous period. At this point the Express looked like the certain winner. In the twelfth minute Adolfsen pulled one back and Young with a power play marker five minutes later gave the Eagles the second wind. Bridgers scored the equalizer only half a minute later. The game ended 3-3 in regulation and subita morte was to decide the game. It was Puk with his first post season goal in the VHLE who delivered the dagger in a power play. Bridgers (1g/1a), Maellard (2g/0a) and Greg (1g/1a) were named the three stars of the game. Jute, the Berlin Wall, stood on his head to keep his team in the game with a .948 saving rate, which was significantly better than Freeze's .900. Vasteras' power play was highly efficient (2/4) and the box play units killed off more than their fair shares of penalties (8/10). Marcel was registered with 0g, 0a, -1, 2 hits and 6sb. And with that victory, Vasteras is awaiting the outcome of the series between Constantinople Byzanz Istanbul and Beardislava Bratislava to see, who they will face in the Renaissance Cup finals. 3-4 (OT) In a game where the Wranglers had a slight advantage on shots fired the Canadians lost 4-3 in overtime to the DC Dragons. Between the thirteenth and nineteenth minute, the Wranglers scored three consecutive goals by Telker, Kotkakoivu and Tessier for a 3-0 lead going into the second period. The latter went to DC as they scored a brace, one of which was on the power play. With seven minutes left in the game, the Dragons scored the game tying goal and took the match into overtime. After 14:37 minutes they scored their fourth unanswered goal for the win. The three stars were awarded to Mourning (2g/1a), Peepants (0g/3a) and Vidot (1g/1a). Dahl (.905) in Calgary's net had to yield to Utonium (.935) minding DC's net. Calgary's power play was inexistent (0/5) while the penalty kill was okay (3/4). Daniel left the ice with 0g, 1a, +1, 5 hits, 3sb and FO% 46.15. 4-6 The second match of the series went 6-4 to DC. The first period was a rollercoaster with three goals each. Jokinen with two markers, one of which was a power play goal and Reinhart with a converted man advantage found the back of the net for the Albertans. In the second period the Wranglers pulled ahead with Telker's goal before the Dragons tied the game again before the second intermission. The final frame ended with two goals to none in favour of DC. Jokinen (2g/1a), Vidot (1g/2a) and Idaho (1g/2a) were elected for the three stars. Neither Dahl (.860) nor Utonium (.867) showed an all star performance, with the better end for the DC keeper. Calgary's power play was excellent (2/3) whereas the box play resembled a sieve (3/6). Daniel had 0g, 0a, -1, 2 PIM (Hooking, lead to a goal), 4 hits and 66.67% efficiency on the hash marks. 3-1 In the third clash, the Dragons won 3-1. They took the first period with a 1-0 intermediary score. They extended the lead by one in the second period, before Reinhart with a power play marker cut same in half again. Midway through the third US team scored the decisive goal to take the win home. The three stars were given to Mourning (1g/1a), Utonium (38 saves) and Vidot (0g/2a). In net, both Dahl (.930) and Utonium (.974) showed much improved over their previous performance, with the advantage for the DC netminder. Calgary's power play was okay-ish with 1/5 converted and the penalty kill was significantly better than in the last match with 5/6 times shutting the door. Daniel logged 0g, 0a, +0, 2 PIM (Tripping, no effect on the score), 4 hits, 2sb and 50.00% win rate at the draw. 4-3 (OT) In a match where Calgary can justifiably lament a stupendous lack of puck luck (shots 69-41 in their favour) conceded the final game 4-3 after extra time. Kotkakoivu and Janser with his first (and last) post season goal in this playoff run scored the goals in the first period for the Wranglers against one marker of DC. Daniel's goal was a bar down one time slap shot after Tessier won the face off in the Dragons' den. In the second period, DC scored the sole goal to make the game 2-2 going into the third. In the last regulation frame, Jokinen scored in power play, but such feat was mirrored by the Dragons to equalize the game once more. After 8:19 minutes in the overtime DC delivered the dagger and advance to the conference final. Sova (1g/2a), Idaho (1g/2a) and Utonium (66 saves) were given the post game honours. Dahl (.902) performed decent, but Utonium (.957)was just stellar and stole the game for their colours. Calgary's power play was lacking (1/8) and can be seen as one of the reasons why this game was lost, while the penalty kill units did their job adequately (4/5). Daniel had 1g, 0a, 2 PIM (Roughing, no goal was scored), 6 hits and FO% 44.44 to his name. The playoff stats for the Jansers are as follows: Marcel: 4gp, 0g, 2a, +3, 6 hits, 15sb Daniel: 7gp, 1g, 2a, +3, 14 PIM, 29 hits, 5sb, FO% 54.67 While Daniel's production has room for improvement, he is one of the league's leaders when it comes to grit. He landed 29 hits for the second place, only bested by one-man-hitting-machine Detroit. He is fifth in hits received (24) and seventh in PIM (14). So the drop in scoring is certainly not for the lack of putting his body on the line. We will follow up with Marcel's campaign for eternal glory as soon as news reach us. 16. It is the Renaissance Cup named after the famous French Hockey player René Sense.
  17. Just in case you wondered: The Hockey stadium of HC Davos (the real life one) is on the extreme left just under the middle and on top of DLR's head (the building which seems to have a cross shaped blueprint).
  18. Graphic courtesy of Leandrofg (Marcel's stats/Daniel's stats) While Daniel has a short respite before entering the playoffs proper, Marcel is in full swing with Vasteras. Please find the match summary as follows. 4-3 (OT) In the third match of the series (2-0 lead for the Swedes), Vasteras extended its lead by one and is at the brink of eliminating Cologne from the playoffs after a 4-3 OT win. Cologne was on the board first with an early powerplay goal. Vasteras answered with a brace from Young and a marker by Adolfsen, all in even strength. In the second period, the Express was able to pull one back with an other power play conversion. Cologne scored the equalizer halfway through the third frame. You guessed it, it was the third goal scored on a man advantage. Alas, Young with his third goal delivered the dagger after five minutes into the sudden death. For the three stars Young (3g/0a), Maellard (2g/1a) and Cat (0g/2a) were elected. The Iron Eagles' netminder Jute (.906) had the tiniest of margins over his opponent Freeze (.905) in Cologne's net. Vasteras' special teams displayed a shockingly poor efficiency with 0/4 for the power play and 2/5 for the penalty killing. The GM Arce is well advised to address this issue as soon as possible. Marcel left the ice with a 0g, 1a, +3 and 4sb record His stats for the post-season so far: 3gp, 0g, 2a, +4, 0 PIM, 4 hits and 9sb As demonstrated in this game, Marcel does well to stay out of the sin bin, in order to not provoke 'easy' goals against his team. We will revert tomorrow, when Daniel will get into the thick of it as well against the DC Dragons. https://vhlforum.com/topic/123675-a-tale-of-two-brothers-a-crease-oddity/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/123872-a-tale-of-two-brothers-past-the-third/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/124004-a-tale-of-two-brothers-approaching-the-half-way-mark/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/124101-a-tale-of-two-brothers-hot-in-the-city/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/125122-a-tale-of-two-brothers-a-dark-horse-on-the-rise/ GM 5: Vasteras Iron Eagles vs. Cologne Express (vhlportal.com)
  19. You are very welcome. It is funny though that Ricer, Jacob and I are all in the same VHL team (Jacob and I as players, Ricer is our GM), the Calgary Wranglers.
  20. Hey Oli, First of all Welcome to the VHL, I hope you will enjoy your time here. For the moment, you can earn some TPE (it is on a weekly basis by the way), which in turn can be spent to improve your player. Here is a guide how you can do this (please do not hesitate to ask, if something is unclear, I am here to help). https://vhlforum.com/topic/98611-tpe-point-tasks-tutorial/ Here is a guide for building players (only recommendation though, you build your player as you see fit, but it is good to know which attributes are important to your position) Gustav's Guide to Building - New Member Guide - Victory Hockey League (vhlforum.com) There will be a tournament, the Junior Showcase Tournament for undrafted players just as you, where you will be able to showcase your skills and attract the attention of the VHLM GM's (I am one of them, my team is the Mississauga Hounds). Also later on there will be the traditional ProAm Tournament where you can sign up for a little more off-season action. This is an event where players from all leagues participate (even retired players join at time) and where you can bond with other community members. Other than that, I can only recommend you, to peak in the forum and read some articles and look at some of the GFX people create for themselves or others. Hope the above is of help to get you started. Daniel
