  4. Graphic courtesy of Leandrofg (Marcel's stats/Daniel's stats) We have some catch up to do, so without further prelude, please find our game recaps as follows: 0-3 Nothing to see here, as the Chicago Phoenix shutdown the Calgary Wranglers in a 3-0 win. To add insult to injury, the game winning goal was a short handed marker by Sundin in the second period. In the third Chicago scored a brace and that was that. The three stars award went to Pearce (25 saves), Johansson (0g/2a) and Sundin (1g/0a). Dahl (.933) despite a herculean effort could obviously not beat Pearce's shut out performance. Calgary did not only not score on their lone power play opportunity but gave away a goal, whereas the penalty kill was okay (4/5). Marcel had 0g, 0a, -1, 1 hit and 3sb Daniel had 0g, 0a, +0, 2 PIM (Hooking, lead to a goal against),1 hit, 2sb and 52.27FO% 1-6 This lapsus was but a minor setback for the Wranglers as they steamrolled LA in a 6-1 triumph away. Tessier started the proceedings with a power play marker after 42 seconds played and by the 4:55 minute marker he was done with his natural hattrick. Then there was a little ray of hope for the Stars when they scored mid-way in the same period, but Gonçalves reinstated the three goal lead before the first break. Jokinen in the power play scored the only goal in the second frame. The last word was spoken when Calgary's third line left wing scored the final goal of the match. Tessier (3g/0a), D. Janser (0g/4a) and Jokinen (1g/2a) were named the three best players of the game. Dahl (.962) had a relatively quiet night which and was superior to Vandelay (.854). Calgary's power play was very efficient (2/4) and the penalty kill impeccable (6/6) Marcel was noted with 0g, 0a, +0 and 1 hit Daniel was noted with 0g, 4a, +2, 6 hits and 53.49FO% 3-5 The next game against Davos was a closer call but still Calgary walked away victorious in a 5-3 win. Tessier and Wolanin brought the Wranglers two up in the first period. The middle frame was a balanced affair with both teams scoring two goals each. Daniel and Tessier found the back of the net for the Albertan team. Janser first wins the draw in the noman's land and passes to Tessier and rushes to the blue line. Tessier gives the pass back to Janser, who circles the net for a wrap around goal. In the third frame, both teams score one, Calgary's Jokinen was successful for his colours. Jokinen (1g/2a), Tessier (2g/2a) and Janser (1g/3a) were awarded the three stars. Dahl (.903) beat Davis (.868) in Davos' net. Calgary's power play was okay (1/4) but the box play has room for improvement (2/4). Marcel logged 0g, 0a, +0 and 1sb Daniel logged 1g, 3a, +2, 2 PIM (Holding, no effect on the score), 2 hits, 1sb and 62.16FO% 4-5 (OT) In the next clash with a European team, Calgary had to go the extra mile to secure the elusive W in a 5-4 overtime win. Gonçalves and Janser scored two early goals before Malmo could cut the lead in half before the first intermission. Strasmore intercepts a Malmo attack and sends the puck the other way to Tessier who relays the disc to Wolanin. The winger shoots and Daniel in the slot redirects the shot to give Tsezar no chance to parry. The second period sees a brace by Kotkakoivu, the first of the two being scored on the man advantage. The Wranglers went into the third with a commanding lead of 4-1, but somehow they ran out of steam and allow three consecutive goals within eight minutes. Needless to say that Ricer on the bench was not pleased with the collapse of his team. The sudden death would bring the decision after 4:36 minutes and it was the Captain who delivered the coup de grace. The Swiss Center won the face off in the offensive zone and after some text book one time passes between him, Jokinen and Wolanin, he would have the wide open net in front of him. No reason to ask the Rotkreuz native twice to convert such a layup. The post match awards went to Janser (2g/1a), Kotkakoivu (2g/0a) and Trunov (1g/1a). Dahl (.892) was beaten by Tsezar (.898) by a smidge, but his front row made up for that small handicap, by just throwing enough shit at the wall, so that sufficient fecal matter stuck to it (49-37 shots). Calgary's power play was anemic (1/12) and the penalty kill spotless (2/2). Marcel had 0g, 0a, -2 and 3sb to his name. Daniel had 2g, 1a, +2, 4 PIM (High Sticking and Hooking, obviously no change on the scoreboard), 2 hits, 50.91% win rate at the hashmarks and 1st Star to his name. 6-3 In following game, the Wranglers sent the United packing with a well deserved 6-3 win. It took Janser 26 seconds to bring Calgary ahead. Daniel won the opening face off and by a detour to Strasmore, Jokinen and Tessier, the puck landed again on 'Captain Helvetic's tape, just for him to hammer it bar down. 28 seconds later Kotkakoivu followed suit and after 4:04 minutes the score was 3-0 after Gonçalves' marker. Igor Retoslav then pulled one back before the teams were dismissed into their locker rooms. The second frame saw only the one goal from Gonçalves. The third period was a bit more lively as Janser scored 20 seconds after puck drop in the power play. It was as ugly a goal as one could imagine with Janser, Kotkakoivu and Jokinen trying to score, when Daniel buried the biscuit on his second attempt. More through persistence and luck than skill admittedly, but these goals count as much as high light reel material. Tessier scored the next goal before London had two back-to-back markers, one of which was during a Calgary penalty. Janser (2g/2a), Gonçalves (2g/1a) and Jokinen (0g/4a) were asked for an encore on the rink. Dahl (.900) had the upper hand over Nu (.889) in the netminder duel. The Wranglers' power play was okay-ish (1/5) and the box play underwhelming (2/3). Marcel left the ice with 0g, 0a, +1 and 1sb. Daniel left the ice with 2g, 2a, +2, 2 PIM (Tripping, lead to a goal against), 5 hits, 50.00FO% and a 1st Star. 4-7 In an other convincing demonstration of superiority, the Albertan franchise beat Prague 7-4. But Prague started with a wake up call for the Wranglers when they scored the first goal within the first minute. Alas, this impudence was promply answered with three goals by Wolanin and Gonçalves (2). The second frame saw a total of five goal with three Czech markers against two of Calgary's. Janser and Wolanin netted for their team. Dan wins the draw in the neutral zone and via Jokinen, Gonçalves and Tessier the puck comes back to the Swiss forward and after fluffing the first attempt, he buried the rebound off the boards. The final period was all Calgary's with Janser on even strength and Jokinen converting a penalty against Prague. The Portuguese Wonderkind picks up the puck after it zinged on Dahl's cage, and passes it to Tessier, who carries it into the Phantom Zone. His shot misses the net, but Daniel is there to hoover the puck up and to bury it off the post. The three stars were awarded to Laperriere (3g/1a), Janser (2g/2a) and Gonçalves (2g/2a). Calgary's back up Gaming (.871) was a tad better than his opposite number Wallob (.863). Clearly both teams played with open sights. The Wranglers' powerplay was decent (1/2) and the penalty kill immaculate (2/2). Marcel was noted with 0g, 0a, +1, 1 hits and 2sb Daniel was noted with 2g, 2a, +1, 4 hits and 53.66FO% 3-5 Every series must come to an end. The Wranglers' run was interrupted by London who cried for revenge for the earlier defeat at the sticks of the Canadians. United was on the board early with a power play marker. Tessier tied the game with a goal on the man advantage. The English then replied with two goals one of which was during a penalty against Calgary. The second period was a tie with Justice scoring his first goal in the big show. Marcel secured the puck for the rookie Center. It is a strike of irony that he should score his first goal against the only English Team in the league. The third frame was also a 1-1 draw with Tessier scoring short handed. Is there anything this bloke cannot do? Tessier (2g/0a), Cat (1g/1a) and Sylvester (1g/1a) were named the three stars of the match. Dahl (.896) had a mid-night against a Nu (.930) in top form. Calgary's power play was okay-ish (1/5) but the penalty kill was atrocious (5/9) and heavily contributed to the loss. Marcel had 0g, 0a, +2, 2 hits and 3 shots blocked Daniel had 0g, 0a, -1, 4 PIM (Holding and Hooking, the former leading to a goal against), 5 hits and 64.81FO% The stats for the brothers sofar are as follows: Marcel: 17gp, 0g, 3a, 3pts, +6, 0 PIM, 11 hits, 30sb, Daniel: 17gp, 10g, 14a, 24pts, +3, 32 PIM, 52 hits, 7sb, 1gwg, 2ppg, 55.66FO% and 2 first star nominations Calgary sits at third in the NA conference but has two games in hand against the leading Bears. Daniel scored seven goals and twelve assists in the last seven matches. If he could keep up such scoring rate, a three digit number at the end of the season is a possibility. And on that bombshell, we bid you goodbye and stay tuned for further updates. https://vhlforum.com/topic/127179-a-tale-of-two-brothers-back-in-black-white-and-red/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/127216-a-tale-of-two-brothers-a-mixed-start/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/127250-a-tale-of-two-brothers-get-on-the-hype-train/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/127311-a-tale-of-two-brothers-inconsistency/ GM 82: Calgary Wranglers vs. Chicago Phoenix (vhlportal.com) GM 91: Los Angeles Stars vs. Calgary Wranglers (vhlportal.com) GM 101: HC Davos Dynamo vs. Calgary Wranglers (vhlportal.com) GM 113: Malmo Nighthawks vs. Calgary Wranglers (vhlportal.com) GM 122: Calgary Wranglers vs. London United (vhlportal.com) GM 130: Prague Phantoms vs. Calgary Wranglers (vhlportal.com) GM 137: Calgary Wranglers vs. London United (vhlportal.com)
  5. lol... Cole played all but two games for 'Sota
  6. Yeah I think that last season pushed him into the HOF, as he got his only 4 individual awards in that last season
  7. So adorable... VHL could be her dad/mom age wise.... which is indeed weird thinking about... It probably is wise to not name her after a VHL player if some of the female names out there are 'Milk Jugs' and 'Venus Thightrap'... all the best and best of healthto the lil'un and her family
  8. This is what I tried to do with the Hounds in my short while with them. Have a steady influx of players through draft and waivers (preferably a good mix of max earners who will only be there for a season and slower earner you can work with for 2-3 seasons). Only last year we had such a good run without me really trying that I gambled away the future for more depth and in the hope to get a push for the title (as we had a fairly good record against Vegas). Alas it did not turn out well, and the Hounds will have now a season of suffering ahead (unless good waivers can be picked up)...
  9. Why a harder regression for skaters? Have you looked at the elite saving numbers netminders put up recently (and I am not only speaking of max earners but also less competitive members)? Goalkeepers have not been hit by the hybrid hammer which overnight cut skaters into half (so to speak) and put up save percentages a NHL GM would get wet dreams about. Fair enough they suffered enough during the meta era. Having said that if now the plan would be to further cripple skaters and leave the goalies untouched, we will have an even bigger goalie surge than we already have. Because goalies atm get 1 STHS attribute per TPE whereas skaters are somewhere between 0.3 and .84, depending on what attributes you choose to push. Potential Result: 'cool the (enter the VHLM team of your choice) has just contracted its 8th netminder this season. the roster looks as follows now 2-1-8. Welcome, (enter generic player name), you are back up number seven and we are happy you signed with us. You can expect a maximum of 10 regular season games in a 72 games season. I hope you will have a lot of fun with the (enter team name) and much success in your pursuit of an VHL career.'
  10. Sorry to hear about your recurring injury. Wishing you a speedy and more importantly complete recovery.
  11. That does not fix the retention problem though... if people know that they have to spend at least two seasons (max earning) in the VHLM to have a shortened VHL career, they will not stick around. My brother is a clicker (and using that TC as well) and did even a career task. And it took him five seasons (i.e. a full real time year) to get to the VHL. If he was not a stubborn SOB he would have jumped ship a long time ago. Not even to start about the veterans with their 63rd player not willing to 'lose out' on VHL time because they need to spend two seasons in the VHL. I think it gives more of a moral boost if you as a max earner are 'promoted' to the next higher league...
  12. but did we not have that prior? (prior me joining the league that is)... there was a cap of 250 TPE for the VHLM and no VHLE... if you just barely make the VHL you get steam rolled by the Hard Markinsons and Duncan Idahos of the league and have little to no influence on your team's success... you get third/fourth line minutes and no special team time... how is that more satisfying than to be competitive in an intermediate league?
  13. Graphic courtesy of Leandrofg (Marcel's stats/Daniel's stats) The Janser brothers played two more games since our last report. Please find our games summaries here below for your reading pleasure. 2-3 The Dragons set the tone early in this nailbiter as they scored all their goals in the first twenty minutes for their 3-2 victory. After D.C.'s first two goals, the Portuguese Wonderkind Gonçalves cut the lead in half, before the Dragons reinstated their two goal lead before the first intermission. The second frame saw a lot of effort but no results and so the teams went into the third period with the same score as they went into the second. Tessier rekindled the hope for Calgary after less than seven minutes played, but it was for naught as afterwards, the Dragons shut the door. Sova (1g/1a), Lavelle (1g/1a) and Utonium (34 saves) were named the three stars of the match. Dahl (.906) showed a solid performance but was outplayed by Utonium (.944) in D.C.'s net. Calgary's powerplay was anemic (0/3) but their box play gritty (5/5). Marcel had 0g, 0a, +1, 1 hit and 1sb to his name. Daniel achieved a 0g, 1a, -2, 2 PIM (Tripping, obviously no goal scored against), 1 hit and 52.27FO% record. 3-2 (SO) In clash where the Wranglers had all the opportunities to walk away victorious, Toronto walked away with the win, mainly due to their man in net Lindbergh. Toronto started the proceedings but Tessier with a power play marker tied the game before the teams were dismissed into their respective locker rooms. The Legion then scored in power play with less than a minute played in the second frame. Our intrepid heroes' former Reapers team mate Ixazaluoh found the back of the net. In the third, it was the selfproclaimed 'team pylon' and power play specialist GoodBrandSun who equalized the score again. As the overtime did not bring any decision, the teams had to line up for the penalty shoot out, which went into 'Ronto's favour. The three stars of the night were Lindbergh (48 saves), GoodBrandSun (1g/0a)and Peace (1g/0a). Dahl's (.923) was good but was overshadowed by Lindbergh's (.960) all-star worthy display. The Wranglers' poor power play (1/9) was one of the reasons for this unnecessary loss, while the penalty killing did not cover themselves in glory either (2/3). Marcel was noted with 0g, 1a, +0 and 2sb Daniel logged 0g, 0a, 2 PIM (Roughing, lead to a goal against) and 78.95% success at the draw. The Wranglers sit at 2nd seed in the NA Conference with a 5-2-3 record and one game in hand against first placed Bears. The Jansers' score sheets read as follows: Marcel: 10gp, 0g, 3a, 3pts, +5, 0 PIM, 6 hits, 17sb Daniel: 10gp, 3g, 2a, 5pts, -5, 18 PIM, 27 hits, 4sb, 1ppg, 55.88FO% We will update our value readers with news as soon as same emerge. In the interim, we would appreciate if the fans of our Rotkreuz native boys could take the time and read previously published articles, some of which are linked down below. https://vhlforum.com/topic/126754-a-tale-of-two-brothers-big-news/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/127020-calgary-wranglers-season-85-captains/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/127117-calgary-wranglers-team-awards-season-84/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/127179-a-tale-of-two-brothers-back-in-black-white-and-red/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/127216-a-tale-of-two-brothers-a-mixed-start/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/127250-a-tale-of-two-brothers-get-on-the-hype-train/ GM 66: Calgary Wranglers vs. D.C. 14. Reminds me of the Outro of almost every Steve Dangle video I have seen: Tell all your friends something something related to the video. (often: IF YOU ARE A GOALTENDER, TEND THE GOAL!!!)
  15. Graphic courtesy of Leandrofg (Marcel's stats/Daniel's stats) As promised in our previous issue of the Swiss Central Gazzette, we are now catching up on the missing two games the Janser Boys played in the interim. 3-4 In a game which pitted two of the favourites for a playoff spot in the NA conference against each other, the Wranglers (or more precisely: Dahl) robbed the Bears of the fruit of their labour in a 4-3 win. Seattle started strong with a brace in the first period against none by Calgary. The tides were turning in the second frame when the Wranglers' veterans in Tessier, Kotkakoivu and D. Janser took charge. Daniel scored in power play. Kotkakoivu moves the puck into the Bears' zone and passes to Jokinen. The defender winds up from the blue line, but does not hit the disc properly and the shot goes wide. Daniel in the slot is able to redirect the puck mid-air and does not leave Wilson any chance to parry the deflection. With 22 seconds to spare, the Bears equalize the score still in the middle period. Kotkakoivu with his second of the game nailed the coffin shut for Seattle and even them removing Wilson from the net for the final two minutes did not help them. Kotkakoivu (2g/2a), Petrenko (2g/0a) and Godlander (1g/0a) were given the three stars of the game. Dahl (.925) was a big factor, why Calgary won this game and he was significantly better than his opposite number Wilson (.857). The Albertan's power play was without fault (1/1) and their penalty claim was on par with that (6/6). Marcel was reported with 0g, 0a, +2 and 2sb. Daniel had 1g, 0a, -1, 4 PIM (Tripping and Hooking, obviously no effect on the score), 7 hits, 2sb and 65.91FO%. 2-1 In the second featured game, the Wranglers took down the Wolves in a war of attrition and a 2-1 victory. The first period was without a goal from either squad until Kotkakoivu broke the spell early in the second period. However, less than two minutes later, Vancouver tied the game. So back to square one for the final frame. Around midway through the third, Jokinen scored the game winner on a power play. The three stars were awarded to Dahl (44 saves), Kotkakoivu (1g/1a) and Miklavz (1g/0a). Dahl (.978) was vastly superior to Fuhr (.923) who had no mean game at all himself. Calgary's power play was good (1/2) and the penalty killing once more flawless (8/8). Marcel logged 0g, 0a, +0 and 2sb Daniel was noted with 0g, 1a, +0, 2 PIM (Boarding, no goal scored against of course), 1 hit and 48.00% efficiency on the draw. As the more observant of our readers may have noted, Kotkakoivu was involve in ALL six goals scored by his team in these two matches, which is remarkable and we cannot recall that something like that has happened since we started our reports from overseas. For good orders sake, we repeat the Jansers' stat sheet as published yesterday: Marcel: 8gp, 0g, 2a, 2pts, +4, 5 hits, 14sb Daniel: 8gp, 3g, 1a, 4pts, -3, 14 PIM, 26 hits, 4sb, 1ppg, 53.89FO% https://vhlforum.com/topic/126923-a-tale-of-two-brothers-bronze-there-it-is/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/126754-a-tale-of-two-brothers-big-news/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/127020-calgary-wranglers-season-85-captains/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/127117-calgary-wranglers-team-awards-season-84/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/127179-a-tale-of-two-brothers-back-in-black-white-and-red/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/127216-a-tale-of-two-brothers-a-mixed-start/ GM 52: Seattle Bears vs. Calgary Wranglers (vhlportal.com) GM 64: Calgary Wranglers vs. Vancouver Wolves (vhlportal.com) 5/5 uncapped package
  16. Thanks for the easy talks. Welcome to @Rayzor_7 and good luck in Rome (except against Istanbul ofc) to @Jason kranz, @Ray Withers and @Joker_TM
  17. Congrats to the addition to your family. Good health and all the best for the fresh earth dweller.
  18. Graphic courtesy of Leandrofg (Marcel's stats/Daniel's stats) The season has picked up speed and our hockey exports played an other couple of games. We also will share Marcel's autograph card, for the first time in the Wranglers' Red, White and Black. But first to our featured matches. 3-4 (SO) In a nailbiter of a game, the Wranglers had to concede to the Bears in a 4-3 shoot out loss. The Seattle team was on the board first with a power play goal, but Calgary's Tessier replied with a brace of his own, one of which was on the man advantage. And that is how the teams went into the first break. The Bears tied the game in the second frame with an other power play marker. In the third period both teams scored one goal each, with Kotkakoivu being successful for his colours and Seattle scoring for the third time in power play. The sudden death did not bring a winner, so the teams had to resort to the shootout for evaluating a victor. Wilson parried all Wranglers attempts and Dahl all but one from Seattle. The three stars were awarded to Tessier (2g/1a), Petrenko (1g/2a) and Kotkakoivu (1g/0a). Dahl's (.923) stellar performance brought a win in the netminder duel against Wilson (.914) but was not enough to carry his team across the goal line. The Wranglers' power play was okay (1/4) the box play was far from it (3/6) and decided ultimately the match. Marcel was noted with 0g, 0a, +2 and 1sb. Daniel had 0g, 0a, +0, 4 hits and 53.66% success at the draw. 2-1 (OT) The Wranglers gave away a game against the Americans they had no business losing, judging by the shots totals. Both teams scored in the first period. Daniel found the back of the net for the Wranglers with 20 seconds to spare in the frame. Strasmore picks up a dumped puck and passes it to Jokinen. The veteran defenseman carries the biscuit into the Americans' zone and passes to Dan in front of the net. The Swiss forward one times it 12 inches above the ice via the post into the net. Unfortunately, that was all the scoring for the regulation time, though not for lack of trying from Calgary's side. As the three regulation periods did not find a winner, it was again time for the sudden death. Matchett delivered the dagger after less than five minutes into extra time. Kennedy (35 saves), Matchett (1g/0a) and Daniel (1g/0a) were given the three stars of the night. Dahl had a good game (.917) but was overshadowed by Kennedy's herculean effort in net (.972). The Wranglers' power play was a no show (0/2) but the penalty kill was immaculate (4/4). Marcel logged 0g, 0a, -1 and 3sb. Daniel was reported with 1g, 0a, +0, 3 hits and 58.33FO%. Here are the Jansers' stats for the season (note that two match summaries are missing, which were not available when the cut off time came around. Rest assured they will be there in tomorrow's issue): Marcel: 8gp, 0g, 2a, 2pts, +4, 5 hits, 14sb Daniel: 8gp, 3g, 1a, 4pts, -3, 14 PIM, 26 hits, 4sb, 1ppg, 53.89FO% Please also find below as promised the reveal of Marcel's autograph card: Stay tuned for further news as they develop. https://vhlforum.com/topic/126923-a-tale-of-two-brothers-bronze-there-it-is/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/126754-a-tale-of-two-brothers-big-news/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/127020-calgary-wranglers-season-85-captains/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/127117-calgary-wranglers-team-awards-season-84/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/127179-a-tale-of-two-brothers-back-in-black-white-and-red/ GM 31: Calgary Wranglers vs. Seattle Bears (vhlportal.com) GM 42: New York Americans vs. Calgary Wranglers (vhlportal.com) 4/5 uncapped package
  19. Graphic courtesy of Leandrofg (Marcel's stats/Daniel's stats) The purgatory which is called 'off-season' is finally over and we have news and game summaries for our valued readership again. First bullet point in this issue is that Daniel Janser has been awarded the Sheriff's Badge on the traditional annual Wranglers party. The Sheriff's Badge is given to the Wrangler who displayed exceptional leadership on and off the ice. The young Swiss was also trusted with the coveted 'C' on his chest. He will be supported in this responsibility and honour by the Alternate Captains Kotkakoivu and GoodBrandSun. We had a chance to get a hold of Janser after the ceremony for a quick interview: Jean-Luc Lieuxperroux (JLL): 'Daniel, you were just awarded the Sheriff's Badge by the Wranglers' organization and made Captain of the team going into S85. What are your thoughts to that honour?' Daniel Janser (DJ): 'Hi Jean-Luc, glad you could make it to our little function. It certainly is an honour, and I do not take it as granted. I was convinced that Saku will wear the 'C' as he did in our last two campaigns. At the end of the day, it does not really matter to us as a team. We encourage accountability and initiative in our locker room. Everyone knows what is expected of him, be it league veterans like Tessier or Jokinen, or be it rookies like Strasmore. We hold ourselves to the highest standards and are our greatest critics. I can truly and with conviction state, that the 'C' and the 'A' are more for the refs than for us. We have so much leadership in our team, that we have twelve 'C' in our roster. JLL: 'Calgary traded up in the draft to secure the rights on Strasmore, which some pundits saw as a reach. What do you think about the pick?' DJ: 'Phil is a great addition and fits seamlessly into the Wrangers' organisation and its values. He may not have been the most talented player available at the time he was selected, but we knew that he is a perfect fit and that he will make an immediate show up in the roster. He is a reliable, physical defenceman and we are happy to have him.' JLL: 'The Wranglers also secured the services of Gaming on the FA market. Is this a sign of doubt towards Dahl's abilities?' DJ: 'Absolutely not. Dahl has been a back bone in our team so far. It is more about giving him some more rest time, so he will be fresher in the post-season. Ideally, we will end up with two goal keepers, which we can rely on every night. Should one of them have a bad spell, we know the other one can jump into the breach.' JLL: 'Thanks, Dan and have nice rest of the party.' DJ: *winks* 'I do not know what you are talking about, I am going home and tuck in. Stay safe.' And now to something completely different: our game summaries. 6-2 The opening game of the S85 season saw an encounter by two contenders for the Cup. The Wranglers were reminded that there is a long and rocky road to the finals ahead and got defeated with a score of 6-2. Davos scored a brace in the first frame, the first blood was drawn in a power play. Dynamo increased their lead in the second period with another power play marker, before Wolanin scored the first Calgary goal of the season. In the final frame, Davos sped away with their third converted power play and an even strength goal, before Janser scored with 1:10 minutes left in the game. Jokinen intercepted a pass and relayed the puck to Janser. The Swiss back to the American defender who passes it to Kotkakoivu. The attacker takes a shot but barely misses. The puck comes back into play from behind the net and Janser is the quickest to react and buries it topshelf with the backhand. Needless to say that this was too little, too late to make a difference in that game. Especially when 21 seconds later the team conceded their sixth goal. Dynamite (2g/0a), Tavau (1g/2a) and Detroit (1g/2a) were named the three stars of the game. Dahl (.864) was outplayed by Davis (.951), though in his defence, he did not get an awful lot of support by his front row. Calgary's power play was inexistent (0/4) and the penalty kill units will have to review their playbook (2/5). Daniel was credited with 1g, 0a, +0, 4 PIM (Double minor for Roughing, the second lead to a goal against), 4 hits and a 44.44% success rate at the hashmarks. Marcel contributed 0g, 0a, +0 and 1sb to the tally in his first ever VHL game (not bad for a rookie defender in a 4 goal loss). 3-2 (SO) In the second match, the Wranglers redeemed themselves in a 3-2 shoot out win. Gonçalves found the back of the net in the power play, 5:46 minutes into the game. The second assist was given by Marcel, scoring his first point in the big show. LA drew the game before the first intermission though. The second period came and went with neither team being able to score. At the beginning of the third frame, power play specialist GoodBrandSun converted a man advantage for the Wranglers. Unfortunately, the Stars were able to tie the game with a power play marker of their own. The sudden death did not bring any decision, so the teams had to throw a dice by way of shoot out, with the better end for Calgary. Vandelay (44 saves), Miglaskems (1g/0a) and Murray (0g/2a) were awarded the post match honours. Dahl (.923) despite a very decent performance got Vandelayed (.957). Calgary's special teams showed significantly improved with 2/4 for the power play and 4/5 in the box play. Daniel logged 0g, 0a, +0, 1 hit, 1sb and 45.65FO%. Marcel had 0g, 1a, -1, 3 hits and 2sb to his name. 4-5 (OT) In the third match of the season, the Wranglers defeated the Vancouver Wolves in a tight game 5-4 in over time. The BC team scored the only goal in the starting period with only 2:18 minutes left before the intermission. Tessier tied the game with his power play marker in the second frame. However, Vancouver went on to score a brace before the third. Gonçalves with a power play conversion and Kotkakoivu as well as Jokinen with even strength goals gave the Albertan team a lead, before the Wolves tied the game with less than five minutes to play. Regulation time did not bring a decision, so the teams went into sudden death. Kotkakoivu delivered the coup de grace after less than three minutes played. The three stars were given to Pearce (1g/2a), Kotkakoivu (2g/0a) and Gonçalves (1g/3a). Honestly, we think that Leandro got FISTED ANALLY BY A CIRCUS MONKEY here. Dahl (.892) outperformed his vis-a-vis Fuhr (.800) by quite a margin. Calgary's special teams shone bright with a 100% efficiency each (2/2 in the power play and 5/5 for the penalty kill). Daniel had 0g, 0a, -2, 4 PIM (Both times High Sticking, no effect on the score), 4 hits, 1sb and 62.75% wins at the draw. Marcel was reported with 0g, 0a, +1, 1 hit and 1sb. 3-1 In the rematch of the opening game, the Wranglers bested Davos in a 3-1 victory. Davos scored first in power play mid-way through the first period. GoodBrandSun reset the game before the first intermission. The second period saw the lone goal by Kotkakoivu before the teams were dismissed to the locker room for the second time. The final period saw one goal only, too. This time an early power play marker by Tessier. Davos was not in a position to respond and hence the Wranglers walked away with a win. The three stars went to GoodBrandSun (1g/1a), Dahl (33 saves) and Tessier (1g/1a). Dahl (.971) showed an almost flawless performance against Davis (.870) in Davos' net. Calgary's power play was okay (1/5) and the box play was around the same level (3/4). Daniel was noted with 0g, 0a, +0, 2 hits and 55.26FO% Marcel achieved 0g, 1a, +1, 1 hit and 1sb. Calgary sits at the moment on the top of the very competitive NA conference. The Jansers' stats read as follows: Daniel: 4gp, 1g, 0a, -2, 8 PIM, 11 hits, 2 sb and 51.85FO%. Marcel: 4gp, 0g, 2a, +1, 0 PIM, 5hits and 5sb. Stay tuned for further update for the Jansers' quest for the elusive Cup. https://vhlforum.com/topic/125731-a-tale-of-two-brothers-heartbreak-ridge/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/125969-a-tale-of-two-brothers-the-fat-lady-sang/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/126230-a-tale-of-two-brothers-world-cup-draft/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/126604-a-tale-of-two-brothers-proam/ https://proam.sths.ca/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/126923-a-tale-of-two-brothers-bronze-there-it-is/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/126754-a-tale-of-two-brothers-big-news/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/127020-calgary-wranglers-season-85-captains/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/127117-calgary-wranglers-team-awards-season-84/ GM 1: HC Davos Dynamo vs. Calgary Wranglers (vhlportal.com) GM 13: Calgary Wranglers vs. Los Angeles Stars (vhlportal.com) GM 18: Vancouver Wolves vs. Calgary Wranglers (vhlportal.com) GM 25: Calgary Wranglers vs. HC Davos Dynamo (vhlportal.com)
  20. I like the gritty and graphic novel style of this sig. A little too dark a hue for my taste, but this takes nothing away from your once again masterful work.
