  1. Do you explain in this podcast why you downgraded from Covington to Jarvi?
  2. 3 Stars 1 - Joel Jarvi (NYA) 2 - Unassisted (NYA) 3 - Diana Maxwell (NYA) Well, we did our part @gregreg @STZ
  3. Riga would have the choice to match the contract, so if a team only offers an amount for which the compensation would be a second round pick or two, I doubt Riga would let him go.
  4. I don't remember exactly what I was hoping for when I started Maxwell's career, but I can tell you it's not going to happen. I'm still expecting to wind up in the Hall of Fame, though given the poor first two seasons I had, I might not have room for a down year. So where could I possibly be when my career comes to a close? Well, in eight more games, I'll be halfway through the regular season portion of my career. Sure, it would make sense to be looking at this then, but now is not the future so whatever. I'll just estimate I score seven more goals and fifteen more points (which is about where my pace this season would put me). After four seasons, that would be 152 goals and 312 points. Now, we could just double those totals to project my career, but that'd be silly. Obviously I'm not going to have a season like I did in S50 or S51 again. But am I going to score 63 goals and 133 points every season in the future? Probably not. I think for the sake of simplicity, I'll split the difference between my S52 and S53 performances. For S52, that was 39 goals and 94 points, for a total of 102 goals and 227 points over the course of the two seasons. With four seasons left, if I accomplish those numbers during each pair of seasons, that would add another 204 goals and 454 points to my total. That gives me a grand total of 356 goals and 766 points. Are those Hall of Fame numbers? I don't know. Felix Peters recently got into the Hall of Fame with similar numbers (331 goals and 769 points), and that took him 20 seasons to get in. Peters also had two cups to his name and a shared Playoff MVP (Maxwell has one cup so far and no individual awards, but four seasons remaining, plus the S53 playoffs). Personally, I think I'll do better than an average of 51 goals and 113.5 points per season for the remainder of my career. I think I will get in the Hall of Fame, and not take as long as Peters to do so. But maybe I won't. I don't know. Whatever. for Maxwell
  5. Upcoming Career Milestones We have just a handful of games before the regular season is over, and in that time, several players could reach personal milestones in their respective careers. For some of these players, this is the end of their careers, so it will be their final chance. Sure, reaching another x00 milestone doesn't have much significance in itself (703 points is still just five more points than 698 points, after all), but it's still worth noting in a meaningless article. That being said, here are some players who are potentially going to reach another milestone in their careers before season's end. Assists: Joel Jarvi (400); Black Velvet (400) @gregreg @Higgins The retiring Joel Jarvi is having a career year, leading the league with 94 assists. Before being traded to the New York Americans, there was potential for Jarvi to break Patrick Bergqvist's single-season assist record, but that's no longer in the cards. With eight games remaining, Jarvi is five assists away from reaching 400. Jarvi will be retiring in the off-season, so this is his last chance to add to his career stats. In the eight games he has played with New York so far, he has seven assists, so if he can replicate that over the next eight, he will make it. Black Velvet is not quite as likely to reach the mark this season, as he needs 14 assists in seven games, but with a strong end to the season he could make it happen. Even if he doesn't reach it this season, he'll back back again to certainly pass it next season. With potentially two seasons left to play, Velvet could very possibly reach 500 assists before his career is over. Velvet will be the active assists leader after the impending retirements of Jeff Hamilton, Zach Parechkin, and Jarvi. Goals: Unassisted (300); Bogdan Podarok (200) @STZ @The Bread Man Playing in his sixth season, Unassisted has averaged nearly 50 goals per season. It's unlikely that he'll quite be at that mark when the season ends, as he'll need eight goals in his final eight games. He currently has the third most goals and points among active players, trailing Parechkin and teammate Tom Lincoln in both categories. Unassisted has an outside shot at reaching 400 goals and 900 points in his career. Bogdan Podarok is retiring a bit prematurely, as he'll be done after this season. He'll almost definitely eclipse 200 goals. He is leading the Bears with 46 goals this season, which puts him at 199 for his career. For Podarok, it's not so much a matter of will he, but rather when will he reach 200 goals. Unassisted is good at hockeyball. 300 Points: AK47, Diana Maxwell, Travis Gowecny, Theo Axelsson @701 @Streetlite @eaglesfan036 @solas This quartet of fourth-year players are all looking at reaching the 300 point milestone in the final days of the season. AK47 and Diana Maxwell essentially have it on lock, needing two and three points respectively, meaning it could happen in just about any game. By the end of the season, AK47 will have almost doubled his point total, which was 167 after his first three seasons. Travis Gowecny and Theo Axelsson were teammates in Calgary for three seasons before being traded to different teams this past off-season. Gowecny currently has 293 points in his career, while Axelsson is 15 away from 300. If I were to wager a guess, I'd say Axelsson is the only one of these four who doesn't reach 300 by the end of S53. Other Noteworthy Numbers @gorlab @DollarAndADream I'm definitely not the first to make note of this, but Bobby Digital has 65 assists and zero goals this season. Since S18, no player has had this many assists in a single season without scoring a goal. Furthermore, only one player in the history of the VHL (among those who have at least one goal) has a higher percentage of their point total as assists. That one player is Todd Rohloff, whose 26 assists account for 96.3% of his points. In his career, Digital has 12 goals and 211 assists, meaning 94.62% of his points have been assists. And to close things off, congratulations are in order to Zach Parechkin, who this season became the new career leader in hits. He started the season in seventh with 2419, needing 274 to pass David Smalling. He reached that mark in Game 287 against the Riga Reign, with Sterling Archer being the recipient of the record-breaking blow. He is currently at 2738 hits for his career with seven games left to add to that number. Zach Parechkin is pretty good too.
  6. Updated, this will be the last update before the season ends. Only a few groups where first place doesn't have more than a hundred point lead.
  7. Four-Time Founder's Cup Champions To be a four-time champion in the VHLM isn't necessarily the greatest accomplishment, simply because it means playing in the VHLM for several seasons. Given the nature of the players who might accomplish such a feat, it is little more than an insignificant piece of trivia with no real merit attached to it. Yet it still is not common to see, with only two players have won four Founder's Cups over the course of over fifty seasons. They were both second round VHL draft picks, but neither of them ever made it past the VHLM. Their time in the VHLM never overlapped, with over 20 seasons separating Player A's fourth championship and Player 2's first. Their names really aren't worth mentioning, so I'll just call them Player A and Player 2. Player A won his first Founder's Cup with the Vasteras IK J20, and was drafted by the Toronto Legion in the following off-season. He won back-to-back championships with the same team, securing an Esposito Trophy for his troubles as well. His fourth and final championship was won with another Swedish team Alright so this was going to be a media spot, but I don't quite think it would work as one. So instead it's just going here. I've given enough clues for Player A that you should be able to figure that one out. Now for Player 2: played in the S40's and he shares a name with a goalie who was in the S5 VHL draft. @Beketov
  8. idgi either I was hoping someone could explain it to me
  9. New York: 13.5 (35%) Vasteras: 12 (31%) Davos: 7.5 (19%) Seattle: 5 (13%) Riga: 0.5 (1%) Calgary: 0.5 (1%) Toronto: 0 Quebec: 0 Cologne: 0 Helsinki: 0 lol And those New York and Davos numbers are going up
  10. I get it. When Lloyd Light was first drafted by Vasteras, my first thought was "these guys again?" and then the same with mist4ke in Davos. I've spent the vast majority of my time in the VHL on three teams: New York, Davos, and Vasteras. I'd guess that over 75% of my time in the VHL has been on those three teams. I don't think it bothers me as much as it does you (particularly playing for New York, because this is the team that feels like home to me). But still, I get where you're coming from.
  11. I can only assume he doesn't want to play there either. Makes me wonder, though, where he's hoping to end up. @hedgehog337 draft King and then trade him to Davos for me. Should make Kendrick happy and you get your goalie.
  12. Titans Meute Americans Vikings
  13. I'd love to have you, but my team is pretty full.
  14. Check the games again, they were re-simmed because for some reason it had been switched to V2 or something.

He still had a chance, though. I'm sure he's had stretches this season with 48 points over 16 games, which is what he needs at the moment. Sure, his last few games haven't been great, but that doesn't mean that's how he'll play for the rest of the season. Don't get me wrong, though, it was equally ruined by Greg for trading Jarvi away.
