  10. Streetlite to the rescue tbh
  11. I had also posted somewhere in that thread the idea to disallow banking TPE for players who play beyond eight seasons. Or perhaps we could limit it. Another idea would be to institute a skill cap for players beyond their eight season. Maybe starting in their 9th season, they can't go about 92 in any attribute, and starting in their 10th season they can't go above 85. Just a couple ideas to keep the O'Malleys of the world from remaining as top players, though a harsh 13% in the 9th season and even harsher beyond that should already theoretically take care of that.
  12. I haven't really looked too much into what we are looking at for update scale changes, but I'm not sure how I feel about delaying depreciation. While I think longer careers would be nice, I don't think we should necessarily try to tailor a new depreciation schedule to allow a player in their 9th season to be about where a player in their 7th season would be now. I think when I had previously proposed this idea, I was envisioning something like 10% in the 9th season, and 13% in the 10th season. Harsh, I suppose, but that's the price you pay with taking the longer career. I don't think players should be improving all the way until the end of their career if they don't retire early. There should be some period of decline in there. EDIT: Actually, I just went back and found it, and I was even harsher than that. I said 13%, 19%, and 25% for the 9th, 10th, and 11th seasons. For anyone curious to see (what I believe is) the most recent large-scale discussion on the matter, here it is.
  13. Bratislava, actually. They have literally no non-CPU players.
  14. It's not trying to be funny though. At all.
  15. I've grown too used to the high-0.92x and 0.93x save percentages that we saw from the likes of Wingate and the Cleganes to be impressed by DeGrath's 0.917 in the slightest.
  16. who? I'm seeing "sky larritt"
  17. Stats do matter, but you have consistently placed way too much weight on shots blocked (not just with Sleeman, but players like Lahey and Barnyashev as well) when it's clear that their high totals are a product of being on undermanned rosters.
  18. Okay, I shouldn't say they mean nothing, but it's not the exact same. Cologne last season had fewer players than they do this season, which makes a big difference. Keep in mind that Syndergaard wasn't on the team last year when Sleeman was there. Just look at Syndergaard as an example, though. He had 33 shots blocked in 11 games last season. Same player. This season, he has 59 in 35 games. That is literally the same exact player blocking shots at a significantly lower rate.
  19. Like I said, Sleeman's blocked shots don't mean a thing. But also, I think Maxwell probably is the mid-season MVP, but like I said, I opted to choose someone other than myself for that. The only viable selection was Jarvi, because purely based on statistics, he and Apollo Skye (who is on an even worse team than Jarvi) are the only ones comparable.
  20. Sleeman's blocked shots mean nothing. Quit using them as an argument for anything. Jarvi also has the second highest face-off percentage. He doesn't "just score." There are no better candidates out there than Maxwell and Jarvi, and I didn't feel like writing about myself okay.
  21. Aside from a few weeks where I did multiple point tasks, mist4ke has for the most part been a welfare player, while my point tasks were going to benefit Diana Maxwell. I am, however, just ten more TPE away from maxing Maxwell's strength, at which point I plan to begin banking TPE (leaving Checking and Passing at 90, while attributes such as Discipline, Face-offs, Leadership, and Penalty Shot have been untouched). I still have the rest of this season plus another full season to bank before I have any depreciation to fight off, and I'm also saving my money for anti-depreciation packages. That begs the question: is it time that I focus on mist4ke? The answer is no. Maxwell is still my pride. While I would like to help Davos become good again an I want mist4ke to do well, losing out on one or two TPE each week for him is not a big deal to me. I already have the VHL.com upgrade for him, so along with my job pay, I'm getting 8 TPE. Moving from welfare to point tasks would actually make the VHL.com upgrade a waste for him. And Maxwell is and will for the remainder of her career be my primary focus in the VHL. for mist4ke
  22. I just wrote a mid-season predictions article in which I named Joel Jarvi the MVP of the first half of the season. Jarvi isn't on a stacked team; quite the opposite, actually. While they do have a good goalie in Ilya Kopralkov, Jarvi doesn't have much to work with as far as skaters go. Yeah, AK47, Max von Hohenzollern, and Alexander Thrower are putting up pretty good stats (especially for the players that they are), but that's almost the entire Cologne roster right there. Jarvi leads in goals and points, and is second in assists and face-off percentage. You have to think that his offensive stats are benefited from the Cologne magic that we saw last season as well, but can we really take that away from him? The Express are actually ahead of the Titans in the standings right now, and have gone 4-0 against them this season. Maybe things will become more clear after the second half. But if not Jarvi, then who? Would is be Diana Maxwell, even though she is playing on a line with two fantastic players in Unassisted and Tom Lincoln? Maxwell is tied with Jarvi at 34 goals and is second in points at 71 (though she does have more P/20 than Jarvi). Her 87 hits is not an inconsequential number, and she has a +57 rating, the second highest in the league. I think she has a good case for mid-season MVP, and will possibly have a good case by season's end. New York does have a pretty stacked group of forwards, and arguably none of them are irreplaceable. Maxwell has been named first star a league-leading 12 times, as well as second and third star five times each. I just don't really think there's another standout candidate at the moment, but of course there's still plenty of time for players to shine. If you want to look at a defenseman, maybe Black Velvet or Jeff Hamilton. As far as goalies go, Apollo Skye is the best, but he is playing for a Quebec team that barely belong in the playoffs (though I suppose you could argue that they might be a trash-tier team without him). for Maxwell
  23. It's really just a matter of shutouts for him, which yeah, he could go on a tear and get ten shutouts over the course of 20 games.
  24. S53 Mid-Season Awards We are almost exactly half way through the VHL season, so why not take some time to honor the players who played well so far. I won't be going over any of the statistical leaders; if you're curious about those, you know where to find them. I'll be making my decision on the subjective awards (most of them, anyway) about who is most deserving of each one after half of the season (not who I think will win them at the end of the season). Let's get started! Most Valuable Player C Joel Jarvi - Cologne Express @gregreg This was a tough decision to make, but ultimately I think there was a little bit of "don't want to say my own player" bias. Joel Jarvi does have Cologne is second place over in Europe, though, and it's not just because of an easy schedule thus far. They've beaten Helsinki four times, and while they haven't done quite as well against other top teams, their position in the standings right now has me not discrediting Jarvi too much for the team that he is on. He is currently tied for the league lead in goals, second in assists, and leading in points by a margin of seven over Diana Maxwell. He has done a fine job defensively, having blocked 42 shots and leading his team with a +30 rating. He does also have the second best face-off percentage in the league, something that does not go unnoticed by me. Honorable mention: Diana Maxwell (NYA) Top Defensemen D Black Velvet - Helsinki Titans @Higgins This award is always so hard to choose, but it's a good thing my choice really doesn't matter right now. I went with Black Velvet, who is probably overall the most skilled defensemen in the VHL; he brings so much to the table. He has 48 points, 131 hits, and 48 shots blocked. His points and hits are both top three, but of course he's not going to block as many shots as players on worse teams with fewer players. Honorable mentions: Jeff Hamilton (SEA), Bobby Digital (NYA) This is Black Velvet. Don't question it. Top Goalie G Apollo Skye - Quebec City Meute @Velevra Cool, an award for which I can just look at a couple numbers and say "this guy." Apollo Skye has the best save percentage at 0.930, and although he is bested by a few goalies in GAA, his 2.17 mark is certainly respectable when you consider the team he is on. He does have a losing record, with just 15 wins on 36 starts, but he has the second most shutouts with eight. This includes one against each New York and Stockholm, the top two teams in the standings. Top Rookie C Alexander Thrower - Cologne Express @gregreg Although I don't necessarily think the gap between the top rookie and the rest is as large as last season, I think Thrower is the easy choice here. Although he is almost exclusively an offensive forward, the same can be said for most of the top rookies, and Thrower has far more points than the others. He has 26 goals and 53 points, which is 11 goals and 19 points higher than the second place rookies. Best Two-Way Forward RW AK47 - Cologne Express @701 I personally am not one to say an inactive shouldn't be considered for an award, so I wouldn't have a problem with AK47 winning this award. So far, he has been the best power forward, which is really what this award is. He has the second most hits, just four behind Asher Donovan, but he leads Donovan five goals and 20 points. AK47 is another Express player benefiting from whatever mystical source is allowing them to score as much as they are, but I'm not going to take much away from his accomplishments because of that. for Maxwell
