Claimed:VHLM Power Rankings: Week 3 [Reviewed]
Phil replied to hedgehog337's topic in Archived Media Spots
I think we are just saving ourselves for the playoffs. No point slutting around the league so that come playoff time, you itch all over and fail, right @JardyB10? -
Words were exchanged when we met. I call that a meeting.

- By the time you record this, the second Presidential Debate will have happened. Break it down in under a minute. - At the gym this morning I saw this really hot Asian running on the treadmill. Judging by the way her giant boobs were bouncing, I think she wasn't wearing a bra. That's not a question, just imagery to brighten your day - Any responses to WHN? I've been sick and in no condition to read and fully absorb it, but I'm feeling much better now so hopefully, by the time you've recorded this, I'll have provided you with my thoughts on it!!! - I kinda don't want to bring this up, but how disappointed are you with the start of Ravenwing's career? Are you considering leaving New York in a couple of seasons? Or just going to tough it out and hope it gets better (although it undoubtedly will because the team will get better) - Great work with the Lollipop Rambo Mixes, btw. I listened to them while I was sick. The fades and song selection really match up well... which is hard to do with the slight changes in genres. - Actually, you'll probably record this on Monday, and it's Thanksgiving here in Canada! But I'm still working. Horray for 1.5X Pay Day! - Remind me again who your writing influences are?

Shoot out you say?

The sands of time are eroded by a river of constant change.

Reports are that any team that Phil is on is good for LR activity. This just in, UZI Agency has reportedly had a meeting with the Phil Knight Agency. This should be good.

Game 132: Wranglers vs. Express Final Score: 2 - 4 It's a well known fact around the VHL that the most terrifying place to play this season is in the Calgary Wranglers home rink. The Calgary, after sucking up all the Free Agents more effectively than a Dyson Vacuum, have walked over the league, only losing twice in regulation before this game. Cologne can count themselves a little lucky, catching Weinstein on an off-day, but they still needed to put up the shots to test him, and they managed to do just that. Right from the puck-drop, Lincoln won it cleanly back to P. Hamilton, who carried it like he always does, over the blue line into the attacking zone, he looked up and fired a shot towards the net, which was tipped on its way to the net by a charging Mengsk for his 18th of the season just 12 seconds into the game, to the astonishment of the Calgary faithful. The period was a back-and-forth, high tempo affair, with both teams getting 12 shots off. However, Cologne struck again at the 14-minute mark on the powerplay, as Mengsk collected a loose puck from behind the net and fired it out to the blueline where Kyanon made no mistake of sending it back towards the goal, rifling it in under the crossbar to double Cologne's advantage! The Wranglers played a great shut-down period in the second, limiting the Express to only 6 shots and earning 11 of their own, but luck was with Cologne. The Express' top-line forwards charged at the Wranglers, Jarvi sending Skovgaard the puck before hopping over the board for a change, Niels then slid the puck over to Lincoln, who passed back to Jarvi's replacement, Mengsk who one-timed it through the five-hole of Weinstein to make it 3-0. The Wranglers made something happen at 16:25 when Axelsson finally managed to beat Zhumbayev on their 20th shot of the game. The third period was a very even one. Another back-and-forth, high tempo affair. But again, Cologne were first to the mark, with P. Hamilton and Jarvi connecting for Jarvi's 20th of the season allowing the Express more breathing room. Axelsson would slot his second of the game with just 3 and a half minutes to go but Cologne would hold on for a marvelous victory. It's very rare this season for Cologne to be outshot and win. The Wranglers fired away 35 to Cologne's 27, but it's big games like this that Cologne need to find that extra gear and turn up the quality of their chances, and that's exactly what they did. It was a gutsy win that provided them with some insight on how things could shape up in the off-season. 3 Stars 1 - Arcturus Mengsk (COL) 2 - Theo Axelsson (CGY) 3 - Phil Hamilton (COL) Game Link

Game 116: Legion vs. Express Final Score: 1 - 3 That's right! The Express managed to triumph over the surprisingly strong Toronto Legion once more, but not before the Legion exacted their revenge in Game 82 with a 4-2 win. However, the big difference here was that in the Express loss, Cologne managed to once again outshoot Toronto 36-28 and this just highlighted the failure to sign Greg Clegane, who's having another remarkable season. This win was so emphatic because Cologne managed another win on the road to one of the top teams, slip 3 by the best goalie in the league, and do it while massively dominating the pace of the game. It's a Toronto miracle that the only damage done to them in the first period was a powerplay goal on the only powerplay of the period. D. Hamilton and Mengsk set up the notorious COL LW1 for his first and probably only goal of his career. The Express destroyed, annihilated, obliterated, the Legion in the first, outshooting them 15-1. Being on home ice, the Toronto went off at the intermission to boos from their fans. Again, in the second, the Legion could consider themselves extremely lucky. They got outshot again 19-5, sustaining slightly more damage, as at the 8:18 mark, Skovgaard left the puck for P Hamilton to carry into the offensive zone and faked a slap shot, sliding the puck across to the opposite slot for Mengsk to wire home. Toronto, on their 3rd shot of the match, managed to score to bring it back to 2-1, but before the end of the period, Cologne regained their insurance goal with P Hamilton this time finding Lincoln who snapped his 14th goal of the season over the pad of Clegane. Once more, the fans booed Toronto off the ice. The third period was the only even one, with both teams recording 9 shots. Both teams also had one penalty called against them and both goalies stopped all the shots their faced, ending the game in a comfortable 3-1 victory for Cologne. Cologne have consistently outplayed Toronto this season, and it had provided the team with some much needed confidence after the ball-busting off-season they had. They are hanging around with Riga at the top of the European Conference and are legitimately considered to be one of the 4 contenders for the Cup. Just imagine how good they'd be if Clegane had decided to sign here? 3 Stars 1 - Arcturus Mengsk (COL) 2 - Zach Parechkin (TOR) 3 - Tom Lincoln (COL) Game Link

VHL Changes That Need To Happen But Probably Won't Because, Let's Face It, These Probably Aren't Changes That Need to Happen Here’s a list of changes that need to happen around the league in order to ensure the success of it. If you are like me then you will also know that although I am still heavily involved in the league, I do not possess the pizzazz or energy to implement any of this. 1. Recruitment Now I know I wrote an article within the last month about the two player role in which I implied that because of this new rule, we don’t need to be recruiting as hard, but that was all tongue and cheek. We need fresh blood, we need new members pouring in and doing more than just creating their players and never logging into the site ever again. @eaglesfan036 did a recent poll on the demographics of the VHL and found that most of us are in our mid to late 20s. That is the scariest thing I have ever heard. None, or a very select few, of us start at that age. We were either in our teens or early 20s, first-year university or thereabouts. It would actually be more useful to our “recruitment team” if they took the ages of when we all signed up in order to know which age-group to target. But for all I know, that’s exactly what he’s doing. Anyway, with no new members, the VHL will die. 2. TPE Update Scale or TPE Management Okay, I won’t go into this as much because I’ve already said my piece 30 seasons ago and more recently. But we earn, overall, as a league average, way too much to have any variation in player builds. It’s too easy for goalies specially to cap everything at 99 and there’s not player-building challenge or diversity. It basically for players boils down to whether you want your player to check or not. Big whoop. Anyway, I’m done with this discussion for now. 3. Job Management / Organization I think it’s incredible the amount of work that @Draper @Higgins @JardyB10 and countless other members who still hold important jobs around the league put in, but I noticed that this off-season was a particularly disorganized affair. The VHLM was all over the place, starting before GMs had sent in lines, before the VHL season began, and most shockingly, before players and rosters were even updated, resulting in a Goalie playing forward for a couple of games. This was probably a result of time constraints and a lack of man-power, but still there was no need to rush the start of the season. The second part of this was the reddit recruitment campaign that happened during the off-season, when there’s nothing for them to do or check other than write material for their player. It was the worst time to do it and I’m not sure we got one single person that’s still around from it. Lastly, we have the jobs. Theses seems all over the place. I’ve had to Update the VHL EU twice now because @Tim's gone AWOL. Of course real-life takes precedent, but we have to somehow stay on top of the jobs that are supposed to be done. Reviewing of Podcasts were backed up a month because only a couple people do it… but again there’s no monitoring of jobs and so until someone points it out (usually because they are being negatively affected by it) nothing is done about it. We are reactive as opposed to proactive. You know what’s the common theme here? We need to improve our member base. We need people to want to help out and take up leadership roles here. We need members trucking through with a player for a career and then disappearing rather than just after they create them. We need to give the admin and commissioners more support and that all starts with us getting more members. You better believe it. I know @sterling does. The point of this article is definitely not to stir up shit. It's actually for the TPE, but there are so valuable words in here that we can discuss. So let's do it! I love this league so let's make it great again! #Trumpisms
