...maybe it's my necessity to feel accepted... vindicated... wanted... please others... whatever.. at any rate... in my drunken stupor, I feel it appropriate to throw out a few shout outs that were too lazy/ inactive to post in my 10K post party sign up thread and thus never made it out to that auspicious and fantastic event:
Sterling: Goddammit. There are a couple of people on the boards that I could honestly said, I would not only enjoy drinking with you, but offer to buy the first pint and offer up my place to crash in. We so nearly hung when you came through Toronto and, yes I was clearly sad when you, ross and I couldn't link up, but that's how life goes.
Since the beginning of my VHL career, it has basically been you and David that I've looked towards for order and direction of the league. You have such a direct and simple way of expressing your views ... and the best part? It all makes fantastically simple sense! Your words and decisions are basically law in my books and I defer all matters I am not sure of to you and your sexy opinions. That and I'm fucking Angel Eyes, so we are mortal enemies... BLONDIE.
Nagger: Pretty sure you are dead... but if you are out there... that 96 WIlson Bus will be coming in about another 35 minutes, so you definitely have time to read this! We texted each other constantly for a good couple of months. This was before the Naggerwolf monster that took over the VHLm. We used to Skype for 45 minutes before even touching the record button.... for a XM RADIO POINT TASK, Wherever you are... I hope you are doing well.
Kyle: You aren't as active as you once were, but I still think about you as one of the members that really got me into the VHL. Between your hilarious-to-read fights with Kendrick on the boards, and your awesome posts in the drunk/high(emphasis on high thread), oh, and you telling me to download Pabst and Jazz by Asher Roth, you have always been one of my favs. I hope you read this so you can make a typical Kyle post on it.
Sandro: My first GM... the first 'legal' dealings with in the VHL. I was not sure whether to be professional, or myself when you expressed your interest in me. In retrospect, I should have just unbuckled my belt and let you suck me dry, but I was young and innocent then. After David initially introduced me into the league, you and the rest of Seattle really helped me take off. So any accolades or achievements Gerrard or Rafter got, can be traced back to you. Thank you, because without you, and a few others, I would have never seen Gerrard (or my VHL Career) through.
Brooks: Yea, he's long gone but he was a commissioner at the time of my arrival (I think)... and if not, he was definitely an ex-commish, and acted like one. He was just one cool motherfucker with good taste of music (I'm not sad anymore, I'm just tired of this place), a spunky attitude and very helpful to me if I ever needed it.
For whatever reason, I always think of Brooks in the summer (because he introduced me to that Wonder Years song [Last Semester] but I always think of CoachReilly and I talking about league shit, from that time)
LastOlympian/StevenStamkos: I know you are here... I see you around the boards. I used to work 50-70 hours a week at a pool... three days a week I started guarding the pool at 5:30... meaning I needed to open it for 5am. We were both discussing how much we loved Breath off the new Breaking Benjamin album... I was singing it to myself trying to keep awake from the 5-8am shift before the real day started. My closest colleague skips onto deck as I was singing the song and flashes her engagement ring to me. It's one of my intrinsically happiest moments... and you are a part of it. Don't think I've ever told that story to anyone before.
Slobo: You, well,.. how do I phrase this.. I've never been on the same team, I've rarely had personal conversations with you... I've barely communicated with you on any level, yet you remember ingrained in my early memories of the VHL, and I can't think of one without thinking the other. You were always, to me, the mystery guy. The man who had a dark history, a history of conflict with the league that I didn't really care for the explanation about... all I saw was you build a couple of brilliant players with awesome names - Felt Her Snatch! - and your names riddled all over the record books. You always had ideas and although I didn't agree with all them, you were the type of thinker that kept the league advancing and therefore evolving - these types of leagues need to evolve in order to survive - darwin told me. You were someone who was forging the way for that in my eyes. Therefore, I am eternally in your debt.
It's really fucking late. I am sure there are more members who did not show up to my post-party and I did not mention above who've impacted my time in the VHL but I am throwing out the old 'drunk' excuse. Throw your name below and I will write you a shout out. As I have said on numerous occasions, it;s the members and community that keep drawing me back here... So much so that if it weren't a cyber-thing, I'd probably think I have a drug problem. The addicting personalities of the VHL members make my time here not feel just 'unwasted' but worthwhile. There are days I can't wait to come home and see what nonesense the VHL community is stirring up. This is why I love the league. I'll take or leave hockey... but I'd give up hockey before I fore-go the members of the VHL.
