2-6

Marcel's Iron Eagles faced off the Rush in a 6-2 defeat. Geneva took a 2-0 lead early in the first, both goals scored on powerplay. Vasteras demonstrated how a pass relay should be executed: Bonaparte wins the draw, puck comes to Blugers, he rushes into Geneva territory, drops the puck for Marcel, who gives it back to Blugers, Blugers to Heavens, he shoots, he scores. The teams go 2-1 into the first intermission. This is also the score of the second frame, with Bernier scoring for the Swedes. Unfortunately, that was all the scoring Vasteras was capable of that night and the Rush took the last period with 2-0. Laperriere (1g/2a), Desu (1g/1a) and Withers (1g/1a) were named the three stars of the game. It needs to be mentioned that Martin and Young, who played for the respective opposite team not that long ago, appeared on the scoreboard. Arpa (0933), a former team mate of Marcel's, had an all-star worthy night and dominated Utonium (.864) the whole match. Vasteras' power play was okay (1/4) but the box play was atrocious (3/6).

Marcel was noted with 0g, 0a, +0 and 5sb

1-3

The second match was the Renaissance Derby between the only two teams who won the coveted trophy and ended in a 3-1 win for the Iron Eagles. Young scored the only goal in the first period during a one man advantage. With less than six minutes to play in the second, Young and Janser have several shots at goal during a power play, however there is always between the puck and the twine, be it the netminder or some defender. Finally, Dahl cannot control the rebound off of Marcel's shot and Elsby reacts first and somehow forces the biscuit across the line. The third frame end with one goal apiece. Bonaparte found the back of the net for the Eagles. The three stars awards went to Utonium (47 saves), Elsby (1g/2a) and Young (1g/1a). The Vasteras netminder showed a saving rate of stunning .979 while their opposite number Dahl (.897) had a rather mediocre night. Power play (2/6) as well as boxplay (5/6) were topnotch for the Vasteras team, and secured in all likelihood the win.

Marcel had 0g, 1a, +1 and 3sb to his name.

3-1

The following encounter was a rematch against Geneva with the same result, but a different score than the previous one. A 3-1 loss for Vasteras. Bernier in a power play after 14:38 minutes scored. Unfortunately that was it for the Swedes and the Swiss team took over in period 2 and 3. Arpa (21 saves), Lavelle (1g/0a) and Laperriere (0g/2a) were elected as the three best players. Despite a heroic resistance from Utonium (.935), they could not best Arpa (.955) between the pipes and the Eagles can call themselves lucky to have a keeper who gives them a chance to even win this game. The special teams' performance were nothing to write home about as both were rather disappointing with a 0/5 (power play) and 4/6 (penalty kill) performance respectively. Which means this game was a draw on even strength.

Marcel reported 0g, 0a, +0 and 2sb

6-3

The final VHLE game we are presenting today was against Geneva (déjà-vu much?) and this time ended in a convincing 6-3 win for the Swedish team. Vasteras set the stage early on and after Geneva's opener after less than a minute, shut them down for good with five consecutive goals in a span of less than six minutes. Young, Young, Blugers in power play, Heavens and Snakehole converted for Vasteras. Geneva pulled one back, but the Iron Eagles but the nail in the coffin in the shape of Young, who completed his hattrick. This was all, before the first horn sounded. And that is all she wrote, as Vasteras did not have to score anymore and Geneva simple was not able to. A shame for any viewer who joined the game late due to one of the many traffic jams (and creative driving) for which Geneva has achieved an unrivalled notoriety within Switzerland. The three stars went to Young (3g/1a), Snakehole (1g/2a) and Heavens (1g/1a). Utonium (.909) had a good game and mopped the floor with Arpa (.833). Vasteras penalty kill was decent (4/5) and the power play unit was okay (1/4).

Marcel logged 0g, 1a, +1, 2 hits and 1sb.

1-6

Daniel's first game was agaist the Warsaw Predators and ended in a dominant 6-1 win for the Canadian team. Reinhart and Johnson were the two only goal scorer in the first. After less than five minutes into the second frame Reinhart had her hattrick complete with one even strength and a power play goal. Warsaw reduced the lead to three when Wilk scored (this man should play for Vancouver as 'Wilk' is Polish for 'Wolf') midway through the period. At 13:20 minutes played the Wranglers had a power play. Daniel receives the puck from Nasherov after the Polish dumped the puck to change lines. The fleet-footed Swiss carries the puck into the Predator's zone and since they are still in disarray after the change, shoots upon entering their territory, the shot goes wide, but becomes a pass as it re-enters the hotzone from the other side where Funk has not trouble at all to bury the puck. With less than four minutes left in the game, the Wranglers are in power play again, when Eagles intercepts a pass by Marner. He is passes amongst the Wranglers until Nasherov sees a gap and lets loose. But the puck misses the net and is picked up by Perry, who notices in his peripheral view that Janser is in the perfect position and with a no-look backhand pass dishes the biscuit to the Swiss rookie, who buries it with a one-timer like a veteran. Reinhart (3g/1a), Funk (1g/1a) and Klamasteris (46 saves) were on the podium for the best players of the match. The Latvian (.979) only conceded one goal and was unanimously the winner against Tot (.895) in the goal tender fight. The Wranglers power play was extraordinary (2/3) and the penalty kill nothing short of perfect (2/2).

Daniel was recorded with 1g, 1a, +1, 2 PIM (Roughing, obviously without consequences on the score), 4 hits, 1sb and a face-off win rate of 55.56%

6-4

The Wranglers' second match was against Chicago Phoenix and ended in a 6-4 win for the Albertans. In the first period the teams took turns to score. Johnson and Perry on a shorthanded goal bagged a marker each. Between the two goals, Daniel fought Taylor (after all 8'' taller and 42lbs heavier than the feisty Swiss) to a draw, after trashtalking escalated. The bench celebrated the 'the Anvil' on his way to the sinbin for his grit and the guts to stand tall against a player towering head and shoulder above him. Not only did he stand his man, but also dragged Taylor with him for a five minute breathing break and therefore his team had not to suffer through a extended box play. Janser was also the first to score in the second period. Eagles passed the puck to Perry who saw his shot blocked by Creed. Daniel took care of the orphaned biscuit and put it where it belongs: bardown in Chicago's net. At the 12:05 mark, Daniel intercepted Creed's pass and Nasherov and him started to play cat-and-mouse with the Chicago defence, passing the puck back and forth until Nash sees an opening and shoots... into Creed, much to the Swede's dismay, but Daniel hoovers the disc up, and they continue their passing game until Gustislav has wide open net and can only tap the puck in.  Kotkakoivu and Johnson add their share to the tally and the frame goes 4-1 to Calgary. Chicago manages to pull one back, but it is too little, too late to make much of a difference. The three stars went to Schubbekuteveen (2g/1a), Nasherov (1g/1a) and Kotkakoivu (1g/2a). Vaughn (.826) had one of his weaker games, but despite Doe's (.885) performance, it was enough to win this game due to a combined effort. Calgary's  power play was inexistent (0/3) but the box play was decent (4/5, one goal scored).

Daniel had 1g, 1a, +1, 9 PIM (High Sticking (lead to a goal against), Fighting (no power play ensued) and Hooking (Wranglers scored shorthanded)), 3 hits and FO% of  70.27 to his name.

The Jansers tally sofar:

Marcel: 16gp, 1g, 6a, 7pts, -5, 10 PIM, 16 hits, 36sb, 1gwg

Daniel: 14gp, 6g, 12a, 18pts, +18, 28 PIM, 44 hits, 8sb, 1gwg, 55.48% success rate at the draw.

We will revert in due course with updates on the brothers' progress. Stay tuned.
