Who are your picks for these awards!?

Edited by leandrofg

Hello, and welcome to this season's VHLE Awards!

We are a few minutes away from revealing this season's winners, so let's reminisce on a great S86 campaign. With a record-setting season on their belt, the Cologne Express were the favorites entering the playoffs, but soon the reigning S85 champions, Oslo Storm, made sure that everyone knew they were going to defend their title. And they did. Under the management of Nathan Powers, the Storm franchise is now the first VHLE team to win back-to-back titles.

Florida Man Trophy

It's going to be a player from Oslo, isn't it? Well, the odds favor the Storm. Four of the five nominees are, in fact, from the Norwegian team and it's well deserved. This team started their path in the Wildcard and quickly turned themselves into the team to beat. Could it be that the only Rome player nominated takes the award?

Your winner, with 4 of the 8 votes - wait a minute... could this end in a tie? It could and it did! We have two players with 4 votes each. The winners of the Florida Man Trophy are...

Spoiler

Alexander Minion and Randy Bobandy!

Congratulations to both!

Aldwin Craig Trophy

The top Two-Way Forward is arguably one of the most difficult awards to have unanimity. People usually value different things about a player like this. Some want the tenacity that leads to a more aggressive game that has a bigger PIM number on its downside. Others want a more cerebral approach in which a player works the ice with more poise but doesn't lose out on any battle. Which of the nominees could be put into these categories? Could it be that we have a favorite? There are also two players clearly above the other in their offensive output... could that be the deciding factor?

Your winner, with 6 of the eight votes, is...

Spoiler

Larry Abass Jr.! Congratulations!

@RileyL

Runner-ups with one vote each, Babay Shrimp and Wann Kerr.

Thadius Sales Trophy

What a deserving bunch. Of the five nominees, four received votes from their peers. Cologne and Rome both had contenders to begin the season and they didn't look back after a hot start. Oslo and Bratislava had different stories to write, as they had to make changes during the season in order to solidify themselves for the playoffs. Istanbul, though was our Cinderella story, as after a start to the season where the team wasn't "buying", they played, in fact, as contenders. A real surprise to everyone, even Kurt Janser.

The winner of the Thadius Sales award, with 4 votes...

Spoiler

Zef Goncalves!

Nathan Powers had two votes to his name. Baby Bob and John Frostbeard both had one.

@UnknownMinion LETS GOOOOO!!!!

Orian D H Chiester IX Trophy

We move on to arguably the most important position in hockey, but first, we will honor the player who gave their name to this trophy and someone who played the last hockey of his career this season, Orian D H Chiester IX. Remember Istanbul's Cinderella story? There were two reasons why. Geoff Bezos and Fuukka Rask. Some teams struggle to find a worthy netminder, but Kurt Janser had two and the luxury to trade one mid-season. Looking at the nominees' statistics, two of them stand out. Geoff Bezos and DJ Fire Dragon had very similar seasons, but while DJ played for the record-breaking Express, Bezos' season wasn't as "easy". Could this fact help or hinder any of them?

The winner with 7 out of the eight votes...

Spoiler

Geoff Bezos! Congratulations, @Quik!

The remaining vote went to DJ Fire Dragon.

Jake Thunder Trophy

Defensemen are an ever-evolving breed. Nowadays, some of these players do things with the puck that the old forwards couldn't do, even on Adderall. But defending still isn't a lost art. We still have true defensemen. But in this evolution trend, a new type of defenseman has appeared, the so-called hybrid. These hybrids do it all and do it all well! The list of nominees exemplified this, with a whopping four out of six nominees getting votes to win the award.

Your winner, with 4 of the 8 votes, is...

Spoiler

Skor McFleury! He started slow but finished the season leading the Express and, now, the VHLE. Congratulations, @Alex!

Other players getting votes were Quinn Clark (2), Curtis Crumb (1), and Nagy Al (1).

Ronan Lavelle Trophy

Last but not least, arguably, the most important award is MVP. History tells us this is an offensive award, but with the quality of goaltending seen this past season, could we be surprised?

On the nominee list, we have the top scorer, Fred Hampton. The player with the most goals and assists in Sadie St-Louis and Dens Oden, respectively. Larry Abass Jr., the winner of the Aldwin Craig Trophy, is there too. And so is Geoff Bezos, the winner of the Orian D H Chiester IX Trophy and the goaltender with the highest save percentage. Do you know what's missing there? A defenseman.

Still, it has to be one of these players that gets to be honored with this award. Historically, we've seen this award going to the top scorer in the league. Could this season be any different? Does any of these skaters have a chance to upstage the top scorer? Could we see a goalie win this award for the first time?

The winner of the Ronan Lavelle Trophy and MVP of the VHLE...

Spoiler

with 7 out of eight votes...

Spoiler

Fred Hampton! Congratulations, @TownBizness!

The remaining vote went to Geoff Bezos.

This wraps up our S86 VHLE Awards presentation. I hope you have enjoyed our evening, and more importantly, I hope you're ready for the season that's about to start!

Congratulation to all the winners, to the nominees, and to the not nominated but deserving of it!

On behalf of the VSN team, I thank you.

Good night and take care, everyone!
