Be warned, these thoughts are going to be all over the place. They are tied to the two player announcement, but that's about all they share in common.

I'm not that excited about the two-player system, despite proposing the idea. I think that I'm not exactly sold on its implementation. I'm also not sure if I think there are diverse enough player builds to warrant me being super interested. Also, I can't really utilize it as a GM like I'd like to. I have to retire my player entirely to use the GM rule - not even trade them. I figured you'd be able to trade your player, go to free agency, etc., but the rule is that you have to have that player retired entirely. I think that's a bit weird.

Despite not being as interested in it as I might've initially been (when I brought it up), I applied anyway because I still want to see it through, and since I brought it up, I felt like I definitely needed to apply. I've been claiming welfare for a bit now, due to being busier in real life, working on TCBL, etc., so I'm sure @Kendrick isn't happy about me getting a spot :/ But, I actually think this will push me back into doing proper PTs, which, I hope someone agrees, is good for the league. Right? Me doing PTs (as opposed to not) has to be worth something. If only just a little bit of activity, maybe it'll help out. Who knows.

I don't even know what to build.. I've never had a defenseman or a goalie in this league. I've only had forwards. Three of them, Jarkko Olsen (hero, but a scrub), A.C. Savage (ultimate VHL scrub) and Max Mølholt. Heck, Mølholt is the only one who has been remotely decent, despite Olsen winning cups. My first player here was a defenseman, but I went inactive in my first season in the VHLM, so I don't exactly count that. I kind of see a lot of second players going towards goalie, flooding the market - so I imagine I'd avoid that. I can't bring my goalie player to Toronto without retiring Mølholt anyway.

Actually, now that I'm thinking about it - when do I have to indicate that I want to use the GM rule? By S52, Max would have to be close to being forcefully retired.. I bet you have to do it when you create or something though. Something to figure out.

I was considering stepping down as GM soon. Frankly, I think I've proven that I can GM in this league with Toronto, building through the draft, going from absolutely nothing to repeat champions (only the 6th time in league history), etc. I don't really have anything to prove as a GM, so I was going to start looking for someone who might be interested in replacing me and letting them transition into the role. However, this change might convince me to stick with it, as I can experience the draft with my player (my favorite part of the VHL is going into the draft). So now I don't know anymore. I just know I'm not stepping down this season.

I see a lot of ruckus about the people who were selected. To be honest, when I saw people applying, I was thinking some of the things that have been posted in that thread, "Wait, that guy?" However, I've been claiming welfare - so can I really say anything at all? No. No I can't. I hope having a second player gets @frescoelmo super active or something. He's already around, so he might as well be doing PTs and stuff :). I also hope it keeps @Smarch around, who I know has been on the fence about his interest in the league going forward. @Phil would be fun to play with again, and two players means twice the chances! Four GMs got picked, which is weird. What happens if @Ghost Reaper really does retire his second player, like, immediately? I mean, I don't think he would - but can he (or anyone for that matter), once they're in the system with a second player, just retire and make a new second player immediately now? So like, all 10 of us could retire and recreate for the next draft class, pushing it to 20 people with two players? :o @sterling applied, even though he was bitching about it in the mag - I was surprised by that.

Also, since I proposed the idea - if it fails, I think that'll fall on me. If it succeeds, I don't imagine that will hold true as much ha. So, I feel like I have to help make it work so that I don't get targeted as the guy who tried to take down the VHL with this idea! That's sort of a weird place for me to be in, because I don't think I've ever considered myself a very valuable member to the VHL and I haven't really spearheaded anything major or pushed any changes... so I imagine this one will blow up and I'll never do anything ever again haha.

Anyway, I've rambled for too long.

I think people need to stop assuming it's them who I am upset about. I'm more upset with the fact people who were barely doing the 2 TPE welfare on occasion now get a second player where they can't do shit. Yes it might give them a boost to start doing PT's, but then there might be a few who its a total waste on and they don't do anything.

It was a joke lol. I figure I'm semi-active enough to qualify as at least partially valid :P

Well that is certainly true, I'll admit.

It's just the second person who has pointed fingers (joke or not) without actually reading what I have said.

Yeah a good read here Molholt. I was hoping to be included in the first wave, I'll hold out hope for the next wave next season. I'm curious to see how some of these new players look. I think probably the most intriguing aspect that may of been overlooked regarding this is the quality of the drafts. I don't just mean, more players either. I mean more unpredictability. Some people will go inactive or semi active with a second player, but could get drafted higher due to member reputation. It means we actually see some value in second round picks, which I think is quite important. Potential draft steals are bound to happen way more, and that is good for keeping parity high.

I think I do see your point with this, it is a bit weird that if your S52 2nd player wasn't a GM Rule player, you'd be forced to wait until S55 to make a new GM rule player.

I don't remember this being discussed at any big length anywhere, but the *problem* with being able to trade one GM rule player and have another one in the system immediately is a pretty simple: You decide to re-build Toronto after S50, you're going to get pretty huge value for two seasons of Max Molholt (who already cost Toronto nothing) if you traded him (as opposed to trading him as a retired rental as you would have to now) AND you would already have a new GM player working through the system. So teams would be getting a lot more value for GM players than they currently are, and that might be a bit unfair, specifically right now when the option isn't available to all GMs.

But I think the point is that at least one of a GM's players will need continue acting in the sort of same way that GM players always have. It is a bit unfortunate that your now constrained by your 2nd players draft year, though, which makes it even more unfortunate that any GMs won the lottery.

Also this seems kind of mean coming right after my previous post, but I would have to think that anyone who won the lottery who chose to retire/not create would not be automatically eligible to create in the S53 draft class. The lottery said specifically S52 draft class, so until its made that anyone is eligible at any time, I feel like the lottery win is more of a voucher redeemable for one 2nd player in the S52 draft class, not full-access to the two player system.
