Tagger 2,722 Posted February 19, 2017 Share Posted February 19, 2017 The regular season is half-way to over and it is just as exciting as it’s ever been! Oh no wait, hang on scratch that, it’s not. While last season had a somewhat legitimate race for the North American playoff spaces with the Legion narrowly missing out, you can already lock up whose making the playoffs even this early in the season. Hell, even the sub-races are pretty pointless; the Americans and the Bears are competing to finish top of their conference, so they can…avoid playing a team that they should easily be able to beat over a 7 game series in the Quebec City Meute. Thrilling! Well, I’m here to fix this, the regular season will no longer be the dumpster fire that it currently is if we employ one of these five ingenious ideas to make the regular season exciting. 1 – Make every regular season game a poll to see who wins Obviously we’ll still use STHS for the playoffs (got to use that TPE that guys have earned for something right) but look at the benefits that the league would have if we changed every regular season game to a poll on who would win. Activity would go way up, as teams such as the Americans and Bears would likely have to scramble to get in contact with any inactive member they could get a hold of to give them votes to get them into the playoffs as their playoff rivals gang up against them. Bans will be up; undoubtedly people would attempt to use the system to their advantage and make alternate accounts to sway results in their favour, and nothing gets the league more active than some Anderson style drama. 2 – Randomly reallocate everyone’s TPE Again, we’d revert to the traditional system for the playoffs, but nothing would make the league quite as unpredictable as having everyone’s TPE randomly allocated at the beginning of the season. Everyone would end up with points in fighting (which is never not a good thing), award predictions would be a completely different beast altogether (a beast that I would still conquer though) and trade deadline day could become a lot more entertaining. Say for example, a player like Vincent Virtanen got an insanely good re-roll that made him into a really good player, if there are other teams in the league who should make the playoffs but through the randomizer are perhaps only on the cusp, they may have to consider making a move for Virtanen who, while he might not bring them that much in the playoffs, should ensure that they at least get there. 3 – Bonus Games Got this idea from watching the recent Nitro Games they had in Australia, each team would be given 5 bonus games to randomly allocate with the Bonus Game designation over the course of the season. If the team who used their Bonus Game allocation won, they would be given 10 points for the win rather than the standard 2 points. However, if they lost, they would be deducted 5 points. These 5 games would only be allowed to be allocated after the first ten games of the season and, to prevent teams just using them on rebuilding teams, can only be used against teams within 3 places of them in the overall standings. P.S. Why does the index at the top of the Blackout page still lead to S52? It also allows us to break away from the shitty sim engine. The only real issue I could see is with lines if a GM wants to change something and doesn't have the opportunity. But even then it's only another game or two added to the day so it shouldn't be the end of the world. There are some benefits like not being able to afford certain store items if you're short some dollars so this would be a good addition I think. If you make it too valuable, it'll break the balance. I mean, none of the seasons are really fun to me in themselves. The only thing making it fun for me is the locker rooms, which only select people can see. SHL regular seasons are boring to me too, but the conversation during the season in the Calgary LR is awesome. My Toronto LR here in the VHL was awesome, and now my Seattle one is too. My SBA one is great as well with the Clippers. I do like how the SBA does it though. They have sim threads, where all the games are posted in those threads, and everyone banters in those threads. You get 1 Capped for participating in a sim thread. I mean, SHL has their index thread where all the back and forth is, which is cool too, but that's because they don't post the games like we do in the VHL. I can't say I'm against how it is here either. Sometimes it's cool to see a game thread with like 2-3 pages and you know shit went down in there.
