Malmo Better Than Moscow After 4 Games: Nobody Is Shocked

It should come as a shock to nobody that the Malmo Nighthawks are the top team in the European Conference after the first 4 games. Cries of "it's still early, the season has barely started." Were almost immediately sworn down by the faithful Malmo fans who knew they had a brewing contender in the making. "We are the best expansion franchise in sports history" said one fan, less rabid and more assured that his thoughts were the utmost truth. Another yelled out "Fuck you Vegas Golden Knights, we are going to win it all, chokers." It had become clear that even in the early days of the Nighthawks existence in the VHL that they had already broken the bar and then some.

In terms of fandom, early on goaltender selected in the expansion draft JHC from the Toronto Legion has been seen as the "god of all gods" to the fanbase. One has to wonder if the @Donno100 agency has to feel the pressure coming from such loftly expectations, then again expansion franchises being carried by quality goalies left by teams with the position stacked is generally the building block that can change expectations for a expansion team. Especially considering JHC isn't just a good goalie, he's the reigning Playoff MVP from last season, stealing the games necessary to win it all.

Early on in the games for Malmo one thing has been crystal clear, the team has shown up not just to compete but to win. Top teams are going to have to be on their best games or else they are going to be run out of the building by a Nighthawks franchise that is looking to invigorate the youth movement that makes up much of the teams depth, and it is in fact those clutch young players who have been combining with the veterans for a balanced team offense this season.

*Full Disclosure: I know the title mentions Moscow and I at no point in this article reference that team. Sadly articles aren't written about the only team to not have a single win, with their lone point coming in a weak sauce OTL. Imagine being Moscow?*
