1. I certainly have no intention of staying in the VHLM past this season. I've always had good rookie seasons in the past, I wouldn't expect to be a top scorer of course, but in the right conditions I'm sure I'll be in the RotY race. 2. Currently a very British show called Peep Show. I have no idea if anyone of the UK has even heard of it, but it's a massive cult thing here. When it ends I've got my eyes set on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, I like the clips that I've seen. I also will binge the latest seasons of Billions and Westworld this summer, though I guess that doesn't count as downtime, it's more of a set target haha. 3. I suspect it'd be skewed towards North American teams due to familiarity, and in particular Toronto and New York. That said, given most members here know the VHL lore, I suspect some will go for a place which might not be a huge location but just because it's known to be a good franchise in the past will attract some people - like Calgary or Davos. Those two would attract me anyway.

Damn I miss the days of us having 4 games a sim. Could we not just play more games than everyone else? Seems fair to me.

I'm not sure he has a NTC. That said, Seattle is still over the cap by 900k from what I can tell @Banackock
-
Oh if you waived it before then no.

Muller has a NTC but I'm sure you all know that.

17/18 Soccer/Football Discussion

What a shitshow of a season. Thank fuck the Champions League kept me sane (not Chelsea in it, obviously, but everyone else). -
I think the ratio became too negative to be sustainable.

Another change is needed. I feel like 6 point PTs should be scrapped and replaced by two smaller weekly PTs. Or even three and scrapping VHL.com's as well. Then you'll have 3 lower effort PTs per week but you'll have to engage with the league more to do them. Two could be themed, one could be more lax. I know people like the flexibility of being able to post a large article and claim it over time. I appreciate that but the reward is excessive IMO for what can in theory be a once-a-month contribution. I'd cap that at say 2000 words and only let it be claimed as max 3 TPE per week.

I went on a 3-day trip to Athens last weekend (Monday being a day off here in the UK). A thunderstorm diverted my flight to the Greek island of Rhodes for about 1.5 hours and on the way back to London the plane took 2 attempts to land, so it was interesting to say the least but not really the point of this post. The point is, after coming back on Wednesday, I already felt I had drifted so far away from the VHL somehow that I didn't really care to check what I missed. I could use work on Thursday and Friday as an excuse, but then again I still had plenty of time in the evening. I didn't have any plans for this weekend, haven't watched much football (my usual lazy pastime), and yet it took me halfway through Sunday to properly log into the VHL this week. Why has this happened? Why has it become so easy to disengage from the VHL? Is the problem with me, and it might well be given I've just taken over a year's hiatus, or is it deeper? Is it the fact it's so easy to earn TPE now that I don't feel motivated to participate much when half an hour is enough to get me 14 TPE? Or is that actually what's keeping me here, having abandoned the effort to make a proper point task. In the last half hour, my plan for earning TPE has downgraded as follows: 1. Do 2 podcasts (6 and 3 TPE), claim VHL trivia, and answer 3 press conference questions. 2. Write a HOF article (6 + 3 uncapped TPE), do a 3 TPE podcast, claim VHL trivia, and answer 3 PC questions. 3. Claim welfare, do a 3 TPE podcast, claim VHL trivia, answer 3 PC questions and ask some myself. What have I actually ended up doing? Claimed welfare, claimed VHL trivia, answered some PC questions, and wrote this because that's all it takes. Also got 2 TPE from the VHLM practice facility even though just last week I would had to make 3 additional posts for 1 less TPE. And why is VHLM facility now open to non VHLMers too? What benefit is there? Maybe I'm overreacting and next week everything will be fine again. Hopefully. P.S. I've also spoken to Will and we agreed that trade salary percentages are outdated given there are less games in a 8-team VHL than 10-team. I will therefore update finances using these numbers. Cheers. 100% - off-season - Game 40 85% - Game 41 - 110 70% - Game 111 - 170 60% - Game 171 - ~210 (number not always correct, must be the last game simmed on the trade deadline day)

1. One second, let me just check the sim results as I've been on holiday most of this week. Right so with the benefit of hindsight, no. I know for some reason Oslo played like 4-5 games more than everyone else a while back because the VHLM schedule is weird apparently so I suspected we'd be caught up. Surprised it was Saskatoon though, I saw Ottawa as the larger threat as you know. On the bright side, Cast seems to have been lighting it up. 2. I think there's a very clear top 3 this draft, so unless that hypothetical team needs a goalie, I would obviously want it to be yourself (Thompson) and Gate seeing as I'd want the team to be as competitive as possible. As for which team I would want it to be, off the top of my head the likeliest options are Seattle (via Toronto), Riga, and I think Davos? I'd like to play for Riga or Seattle having never done it before but also want to help resurrect Davos... gun to my head I'd have to say Riga though. They're a nice additional touch, pretty easy TPE to be honest. Would be great if there was more involvement though, as I can never really know whether I should expect any questions on any given week, but I suppose greater involvement is something of a league-wide issue at the moment.

The other day I updated the World Cup medals spreadsheet which had been untouched since S50: http://vhlforum.com/topic/22461-world-cup-medals/E Eventually I'll get around to doing the tournament-by-tournament threads (also untouched since S50) although perhaps @Will has aspirations to move that to the portal as well - in which case I might hold off to not waste my time. Anyway, a quick summary of what I found out in the process: - in my absence, Canada won. A lot. In particular Lee King Snatch - @Smarch and both goaltenders Rhett DeGrath @STZ and Markus King @Kendrick won 3 gold medals, the first players to do so since the very successful Scandinavians of S20 to S26. - King's medals in particular helped Kendrick propel himself to the the top of the members' medal table, 2 clear of myself, @Bushito, and Smarch who also benefited from Canada's historic run. - Apollo Skye @Velevra might only have 1 gold to show for his career, but he did get 5 overall - the only other 2 players ever to win that many are Kristian Carlsson and Lars Berger in the 20s. - @Phil - sadly no longer with us by the looks of it - cemented his title as the unluckiest member in the World Cups - his silver medal count went up to a whopping 9 all-time, compared to just 2 golds - that's a lot of nearly but not quite there finals. Apart from that, I couldn't decide how to treat second players. I've gone for a weird half measure where if a member had 2 players on the same team I only awarded the member 1 medal, but if they won 2 different medals in the same World Cup, I gave them both. I'm still unsure on that and if I want to change it.

Boo. Although I did have a good game.
