    Kurri Finding The Net Often

    Kurri celebrates an Americans goal

Over the course of Niklas Kurri's VHL career thus far, The two-way forward hasn't shown much of a scoring touch. While Kurri has been able to produce respectable scoring numbers, The Finnish forward has never been among his teams offensive leaders. Kurri has seen a steady rise in his production throughout his VHL career and he may have truly broken out offensively this season. Kurri posted 16 goals and 36 points during his rookie season with Seattle. The following season Kurri moved over to The Quebec City Meute and improved his statistics to 21 goals and 47 points. Critics attributed his increase in scoring to the quality of his line-mates and an increase in ice-time. Tis season Kurri has proven those critics to be wrong.

Before the current VHL season, Niklas Kurri joined The New York Americans. The Americans were considered a rebuilding franchise and the move seemed like a very odd choice on Kurri's end. Not only was Kurri going to be playing with less experienced teammates, there was no guarantee that Kurri would see the same amount of playing time he had become accustomed to in Quebec. Kurri earned a spot on the teams 2nd line and has played there for the entire season.

Kurri lit up the scoring sheet for New York during the pre-season. While his production was more or less on pace with his career averages to start out the season, Niklas has caught fire as of late and improved his scoring pace dramatically. Through the Americans first 16 games this season, Kurri put up 5 goals and added 5 assists. Very respectable numbers considering he was transitioning to a new team and playing with some scrub named Ali Azi or something.. Ali was taken off the teams 2nd line and Edwin Reencarnacion was given the opportunity to skate with Kurri and fellow Finn Jorma Ruutu. Without that bum Ali out there on the ice with them, blowing a ton of chances, Kurri-Ruutu-Reencarnacion have been New York's most effective line.

Kurri and Ruutu during a charity game.

After taking some time to get used to his new surroundings in New York, Kurri has absolutely caught fire. The Americans second line center is currently on a 9 game scoring streak. Over the past 13 games, Kurri has recorded 9 goals and added 10 assists for an impressive total of 19 points. The boost in the two-way forwards offensive production is evident when taking a look at the Americans scoring leaders. Kurri's recent discovery of his scoring touch has resulted in a point per game average throughout the entire season. What makes Kurri's offensive production even more impressive is the fact that overall, New York has had a very tough time finding the net. Kurri is leading New York in goals, points, powerplay goals, powerplay points, shots on goal, hits taken and shot blocks among forwards. Despite his production, the coaching staff continues to play other forwards more frequently.

Only time will tell if Kurri can keep up his scoring pace, or if he's just caught fire and is on a lucky hot streak. On the surface and with his results, Kurri keeps improving every game.

Oh hello old friend, this is Thomas Duddy. Proud author of Thomas Duddy ranks VHL teams as well as some more PTs and VHL.com that we all love and enjoy. This time I will talk about the time when I will hit FA in a few seasons. Why do I do this? Because I have nothing else to talk about. As usual I will keep those rankings short and sweet so you don’t get bored or entertained. Now it’s time to start with the last place team that I probably won’t sign once I hit FA.

    The Hel(l)sinki Titans

Woah, plot twist in the opening act. Considering I’m usually a pretty loyal guy, not many would think I would leave the team that drafts me. BUT right now it looks like I may be gone going sooner rather than later. Why you might ask, well I can’t tell you that. It’s a secret that will be revealed in my upcoming book called “Draper is a horrible person and GM”. I also hate our 3rd line center and Patton is horrible.

Tune in next week for the next team.

jRuutu got a reaction from Ahma in Claimed:Cherry picking [Final 6/6]
Some time ago I answered few questions about my natural skating ability and how fast I can be sometimes. Now some people are calling me a cherry picker who only waits for a breakout pass and rarely backchecks. All I can say to that is : Start working on your skating. I´m coming in hot. When you see me , It´s already too late.  When there is a loose puck ,  I will get it. There is nothing you can do to stop me. Well, you can hit me but that rarely works because my legs are like rocks, insanely hard to knock me off the balance.    I have been working on my skating lately , that is true but there is still more to my game than just the awesome skating. Yes, I´m more agile and faster than 95% of the players in the league. Being known as the fast guy is a tough job but somebody going to have to do it.  If anything , my new ability allows me to be a better backchecker and overall , it allows me to be a better two way forward.  Next I´m going to get some UFC -type of training going so i can improve my fighting ability.    Because of this little controversy, i decided to spend my weekend in a local cherry farm. They asked me to come over in last season already but back then I had no time to do that. Ideal place to relax and take some time off from the media pressure. I asked few of my new teammates from New York to come with me but they all had something better to do.    Liars.. but it´s all good. I had a great time over there. I learned a lot about cherry farming and especially about cherry picking.  Bend with your knees and use your wrist they say.  I sucked at first but quickly mastered the optimal technique.  I already have a backup plan if my VHL career ends suddenly.  I´m going to start a massive cherry farm.    When i got back home from the farm, i went straight to the gym. There i took part in a UFC-for beginners class.     Everybody quickly noticed that I´m a natural and must move to more advanced training as soon as possible.  I stayed there for rest of the class and showcased my clearly superior fighting skills.  After the session one of the people who worked out there with me approached  and asked:     Hey , you are Ruutu from Americans?   Me: Yes! How´s it going? Want me to sign something for you?   Oh great! I watched you play few days ago, I must say that you are easily the best looking player in the team!   Me: Oh , wow. Thanks! I hear that a lot. So what would you like to get signed?   Hmm , sign this for me!   Me: White boxers? Alright. What is your name?   My name is Jim.   Me: Okey , To Jim with love - Jorma Ruutu   Thank you so much. I hope you dont mind that i sell these soon. I need to buy a ps4.   Me: No worries , You do what you have to.

jRuutu reacted to nikkurri17 in Kurri Thinking Long-Term In New York [Final 6/6]
The Season 44 regular season is underway and Niklas Kurri is starting to get acclimated with his surroundings in New York. Kurri had only visited New York briefly when he was a child. The Finnish native was so young at that time that he says he hardly remembers it. Kurri visited The United States' largest city when his uncle Jari was playing for The National Hockey Leagues, New York Rangers.

"Yeah, They tell me that I visited out here when I was just a child"

    Says The Americans center,

"Honestly I don't know if I remember it.. I remember traveling to city's with huge building's to watch Jari play, but Yeah, I don't know if I remember New York. It's an incredible city that I've visited a few time's while with The Seattle Bears and Quebec City Meute. I really like the lifestyle around here and I look forward to spending a lot of time here. I signed a contract for 3 seasons so I intend on staying in New York for a long time. I'm looking to purchase I condo or something with a nice view of the skyline."

It was an interesting decision for Kurri to leave the Quebec City Meute. Kurri had just played a key role, for a team that had played an excellent regular season and been upset by the eventual Continental Cup champions. Quebec City had even entrusted Kurri with the role of playing with the teams star player's, Aksel Thomassen and Bruno Wolf. Kurri also led the Meute in ice time while shorthanded and received a fair amount of powerplay time as well.

"Yeah, The opportunity Quebec City gave me was wonderful. I had no problem with the ice-time that the team gave me. I still have at least a few seasons left in the tank and I feel that I'm improving as a player. The talent that New York has acquired over the past few seasons gives them a chance to be successful for multiple seasons. Quebec City has an excellent team but it looks like their window will be closing soon. Bruno Wolf, Jack Wylde, Aksel Thomassen, These are some of the best players in the league, but they may be nearing the end of their careers.

Here in New York we have young players such as E'Twaun Delicious, Nicolas Caprivi, Edwin Reencarnacion, Golden Jedtsson, Benjamin Dupont, Jorma Ruutu even a player like Alexander Davidson who hasn't even cracked the roster yet.. These players are going to be the stars of The VHL's future. I think the teams management has placed the organization in a great position to win multiple Continental Cup's. I look forward to being a part of the next group of players to put our names on that trophy here in New York. "

Time will tell if Kurri has made the right decision for his future. The potential for great things in the future is there.

First of all, I’d like to welcome our new GM, Banackock, to Bratislava Watchmen!

The VHL Entry Draft was last Saturday. This draft wasn’t as good as some other drafts before, but the top 5 were for sure pretty good. Simon Valmount was drafted 4th overall by Riga Reign. Riga’s General Manager Jim Gow (flyersfan1493) had two first round picks - the 4th pick and 5th. Right after drafting Valmount Riga announced that they will be drafting Le’Sean Coutzen. Two very good players.

    Drafted!

Simon Valmount knew that Riga or Helsinki would draft him, so it didn’t come as a surprise that he was the 4th pick of the draft. Valmount is very happy to be part of an awesome team such as Riga Reign. Although, at the moment Riga’s team is not the best, but we are moving forward and we’ll be a great team in the future, sooner or later. But we do have some good players in the team right now, such as Bernie Gow, Captain Bronson Faux, Jakob Ackerman, Raphael Pettyfer and Griffin Simons. Not to mention Riga’s good prospect pool too.

Valmount was spending time with his family in Utsjoki, Finland when the entry draft happened. So, when he heard that Riga Reign had taken Valmount under their organization, he felt joy and excitement. Then Valmount decided to work and train even harder. Hopefully, he will not overwork himself, since Valmount is known for taking somethings a little bit over the limit.

You can see Utsjoki’s location on the map.

When you get drafted 4th overall in a draft class what isn’t the best, everyone expects you to become a spectacular player. There’s lots of pressure on you. Of course, there’s pressure through the whole season before the draft.
