Davos enters critical stretch
DAVOS, SWITZERLAND -- After a disappointing loss to the New York Americans, the HC Davos Dynamo remain two points back of the Cologne Express and four points back of the Riga Reign. "Ideally, we can make up some ground at some point against the few teams above us," head coach Jack Reilly stated after the 4-2 loss against the Americans, "At some point, we absolutely have to make up ground."
At this point in the season, the strength of schedule has been fairly even for those three teams battling for playoff position. Over the next 9 games, the Dynamo don't have any easy games, going up against Calgary twice, Helsinki twice, Stockholm twice, Quebec once, Riga once, and New York once. If they can hold their position through that stretch, the Dynamo should be poised to finally make up some ground.
Some major issues for the Dynamo have been seriously lacking Power Play units, with the second worst power play % in the VHL. Overall, their PK has also been somewhat mediocre, ranking 6th in the VHL. Looking at the shot distribution, it's obvious Davos also needs an improvement in net as the Dynamo rank 4th in the VHL in shots for/against.
