Decided to give this another go, with a lot of teams progressing/regressing in the last calendar year going back to when I first started this. Just in case you need a reminder, this is the NA Conference and this is the European Conference. But if you're feeling lazy, I'll include last year's counterparts in the post, so don't fret. My, how things have changed. Looking back at this it's weird to see how both teams and wrestlers have either fallen off the course or have been made into real contenders. This part will cover the North American Conference once again, with next week going over the European Conference. Enjoy! W: 59 L: 10 OTL: 3 PTS: 121 Last year: (Antonio) Cesaro As of the last calender year, the New York Americans have arguably made the biggest upswing out of all the league. It's a wrecking ball that cannot be stopped. Starring Wahl, Low, Slaughter, 3 Moons and company, the Americans have been the consistent powerhouse the last few seasons. Not just poised to win now, but they have a great foundation for the future that includes the aforementioned 3 Moons, Klose, and Denis. While being a good team is an achievement, being a team this dominant in the regular season is remarkable. All-around, the perfect team. If you're a fan, you love them. If you're not, you're most likely sick of seeing them win all the time. WWE Counterpart: John Cena W: 13 L: 51 OTL: 8 PTS: 34 Last year: Dolph Ziggler This one was a bit difficult. Much like a good collection of the wrestling community, we all want to see Dolph Ziggler succeed. He has the ability, the charisma, and the passion to make it to the top. Maybe not as the the guy, but a good number two or three guy. In Seattle's case, it's been a case of being second or third worst. This past two seasons, the Bears have only won 20 games out of the 144 games they have played. On a brighter note, Brady Stropko came onto the scene this past season and provided some flashes of what could happen in the future. Posting 83 points this season, Stropko is the guy the team will be rebuilt around. Nicklaus Mickaelson provides the always needed stability in net for seasons to come, posting a respectable .913 save percentage on a depleted team. The rebuild is coming along very slowly in Seattle, with many pieces missing and one first round pick in next year's draft. This one needs a lot of tender, love, and care in order to compete. WWE Counterpart: Tyson Kidd W: 51 L: 12 OTL: 9 PTS: 111 Last year: The Shield The Quebec City Meute are still a great team. If it wasn't for the Americans, they would be sitting pretty atop the conference and league. Following a major culture change under new management, the team has found new life in new blood. Aksel Thomassen has found his niche in playing alongside veterans Bruno Wolf and Travis Boychuk. While the defensive corps flirts along the lines of "average" and "good", netminder Brock Waldron is slowly creeping towards his prime and is providing solid goaltending needed in order to win. In comparison to the last calendar year, the team has made great strides and could be a serious contender very soon if the they seize the opportunity. Have had the big one before, and are hungry to get a hold of it again. WWE Counterpart: Dolph Ziggler W: 34 L: 26 OTL: 12 PTS: 80 Last year: CM Punk How the mighty fall. A year ago the team were in their glory days, with legendary Remy LeBeau stopping pucks, with Nicklas Lindberg and Anatoli Zhumbayev scoring, with Jack Sound and Ville Sixten standing tall on the blue line. They were on top. The team Toronto currently has isn't anything to brag about. Remaining goaltender-less until this season when Fedir Okranitz arrived, the team have shown flashes of solid play. This past season they competed nearly all season long for that last playoff spot against the Wranglers, finishing just five points behind. Things could be worse in Toronto, So that fall mentioned before was more of a sprained ankle that kept you immobile for a month or so, and are now looking to get back into the dance. You wouldn't be wrong to pick them to win a game, but in the bigger picture, at the moment they probably won't stand a chance against the better teams. They're on their way back. WWE Counterpart: Sheamus W: 41 L: 28 OTL: 3 PTS: 85 Last year: Ric Flair After posting the first part last year, I felt really bad giving the Calgary Wranglers such a harsh piece. So if the dismal play had continued I would've backed off and not have gone with such a terrible picture of Ric Flair. Luckily enough, they got better! This season, the Wranglers left many, and I mean MANY predictors confused when a such a young and inexperienced team was able to provide a top 5 point scorer in Lukas Nyqvist. Many give Martin Brookside the title of "saving grace" of this team, keeping up a winning record all season long. This is quite the mysterious case where you don't see such a team like Calgary succeed early on with a new crop of faces. Yet the team has been able to clinch three playoff berths in a row. So there's some consistency coming along in Calgary. Young, fresh-faced, and able to produce a great performance with Nyqvist carrying the offense. I had to think outside the box for this one.
