  1. Don't worry they're next on my hit list ?. Then after that NYA
  2. Lmaooo. It's true that Striped Marlin are delicious (and in the Pacific) but when most people think of Marlin, they think of the Atlantic blue
  3. I'm aware it should be "Case in point" but for some reason my brain refuses to accept that
  4. We all know the San Diego Marlins, currently one of the bottom teams in the VHLM. Rather discuss the teams performance today, I'd like to draw attention to the team's logo and namesake for that matter. Let me just outright say, it should all be illegal, for a number of reasons. Firstly, the logo looks ugly in my opinion. Also why is a team on the west coast called the Marlins? Marlins are most notable for their sub species in the Atlantic ocean, San Diego is on the opposite side of the country from that ocean. Next, and the main reason why the team's logo/namesake should be illegal is that a pro baseball team already exists with that name. The Miami Marlins who have been around for much longer than San Diego as a sports team. What really makes the case for the illegality of the SDM logo is it's similarities with the Miami Marlin's logo. Case and point: These two logo's are incredibly similar, certainly a case can be made for copyright infringement making the SDM logo illegal. Both logo's feature a marlin in the same position with the name if the city/team just in front of the fish. However, the case against the SDM logo gets even stronger when compared to the Miami Marlin's previous logo which they used before their re-brand. It's almost as if whoever created the SDM logo used the Florida/Miami Marlins logo as a reference and made only slight changes. The two logo's feature almost identical marlins being wrapped around their team identifiers. A change needs to be made to the SDM logo, as it is pretty clearly a rip-off of the MLB teams logo. Disclaimer: THIS WAS A JOKE!

  7. Han Jae-Kuk Calls Out Team Asia Han Jae-Kuk joined us this week to open up about the WJC and specifically Team Asia. Jae-Kuk who was ultimately left off Team Asia has apparently taken issue with the how the Team handled player selection. In an exclusive phone interview with us he aired his grievances: “Hello everyone, thanks for allowing me this opportunity. I’d like to take the time to use my platform to push for something that I think is very important, equality. The VHL, VHLM and World Cup of Hockey always talk about how they support equality, and they want to see more equality among the players. However, actions speak louder than words in my opinion and the actions of Team Asia say one thing, winning trumps equality. Team Asia is supposed to be an opportunity for Asian players to represent their nations on the world stage, but what we see instead is Asian players being left off the squad for Canadian nationals in hopes that those Canadians who failed to make Team Canada will help Team Asia be more competitive. So we have Asian players, who are already underrepresented in the sport being left off their own national team in favor of Canadians who are arguably the most represented nationality in the entire sport. Something about that situation screams inequality! Essentially the message that Team Asia is sending is that equality is good, but winning is even better. So we white wash a team that is meant to represent Asia in hopes of eeking out a little more success. Asian players should receive priority on a Team that is supposed to represent them! I wish Team Asia success in the WJC, and I hope next time they get it right” Certainly HJK is very heated on the subject. It could be that he feels some animosity for not being selected. Whatever the reason he is certainly passionate on the subject and we're certain this is not the last we hear from him on the matter of equality.

  11. A quick interview with Han Jae-Kuk: Q: You have been quite busy in developing your skills prior to the VHLM draft, do you feel you are a 1st or 2nd round talent? A: No no, if I had a preference I would like to be the last pick in the draft. That way there are no expectations placed upon me, and I can kinda just go out there and develop and hopefully become a good player. Being a 1st or 2nd round pick is an honor, and I just don’t think that I’m worthy of that. Q: Do you have a preferred landing spot in the draft? Maybe some connections in the VHLM? A: Nah, I’ll be happy to just get drafted at all. I’m happy to move to whatever city, I'm just ready to get to work! Regarding connections, I don’t really know anyone in the league right now, and honestly no one has reached out. I’m not too concerned I’ve always been a loner anyway, I like my solitude! Q: You recently talked about how the VHL and VHLM should have more Asian representation, what would that look like? A: I think the main thing right now would be to get a team in Asia. Whenever expansion is brought up I always see these suggestions about cities in America, or Canada. The VHL and VHLM are very western focused, it would do some good to put some teams in Asia and even Australia maybe. There are untapped markets just lying around out there. Q: Anything else you’d like to add before we finish up? A: Just be safe everyone, its a tough time but just remember to stay home and stay healthy. Thanks to all the medical workers for everything you do! Kamsahamnida!

  13. Dear VHL Owners, Fans, GM’s & Players, Being a Korean, I am proud of my heritage. It is something that connects me to my family, friends and even fans. Transitioning from soccer to hockey was a bit of culture shock to me, as the sport is dominated by North American’s and Europeans. Soccer while definitely Euro-centric it has its fair share of Asian representation. In hockey and the VHL that doesn’t seem to be the case. While Asia is represented in the WJC, in which it has historically performed quite well, other areas for Asian representation are lacking. For instance why is Team Asia represented in the WJC and not the Senior World Cup? This seems to me, to diminish Asian representation. When “Nordic” gets a team and yet a whole continent is left out seems questionable. I’m sure there are reasons for this so I digress. However, what really confuses me is that in a league with so many teams, that spans across multiple countries, why is there not a single team from Asia? Not a single VHL or VHLM team in the entire continent? So many players from Asia have become stars in this league, and yet Asia gets a WJC team and nothing else. It seems to me like it's high-time that Asia gets the representation it deserves. With that I call to my fellow players from Asia, let’s come together and fight for representation. Let us show everyone, on and off the ice, that Asia deserves more. I call for the formation of a players union focused on the advancement of Asian representation and success, the Asian Players Union. I hope to see more players from Asia blossom, and hopefully in the future we will see a team in Asia. Sincerely, Han Jae-Kuk
  14. Walking Away From Glory (Han Jae-Kuk celebrating with teammates after scoring the match-winning goal for FC Seoul) SEOUL - Leaving behind your childhood dream isn’t an easy thing to do. Add to that the possibility of making millions of dollars and becoming a superstar and turning that down seems ridiculous. However, that's exactly what Han Jae-Kuk did almost 2 years ago when he left FC Seoul to pursue a career in hockey. Jae-Kuk wasn’t just an average soccer player, he was a budding star who received attention from major clubs across the globe. At just 16 years old he made his senior club debut and never looked back. After becoming the starting striker for the team, following an injury to the previous striker, Jae-Kuk became a goal scoring machine. He would go on to almost break the club record for most goals in a season, finishing just 2 goals shy. Jae-Kuk became the catalyst for FC Seoul as they made an amazing run to finish top of the table and take the league cup. Jae-Kuk was a bonafide star in South Korea, and looked to be Korea’s next big star after Son Heung-Min. Han Jae-Kuk wasn’t a star in just Korea, his name was being bounced around in some of the biggest clubs in the world as a transfer target. The biggest name on that list, Tottenham Hotspur, would eventually secure a deal to bring the young South Korean to White Hart Lane. Spurs offered Jae-Kuk a sizable contract and everything looked to be coming up roses for the young man. However, a few days before he was set to meet with Tottenham and finalize the deal he suddenly backed out. He abruptly announced his retirement from the sport of soccer, and avoided media attention for months. Eventually it was announced he had transitioned to playing hockey with the Anyang Halla. For a player of his caliber to suddenly quit and begin a career in another sport is highly unusual. Add in the fact that he often said following in the footsteps of his idol Son Heung-Min and becoming a premier league player was his dream and his actions are highly questionable. While the real reason he decided to quit remains unconfirmed anonymous sources have given tips. Apparently a major argument between Jae-Kuk and his father had sparked this decision. Jae-Kuk was unhappy how controlling his father had been in his career, while his sister who had become a fairly successful K-pop idol was free to do as she pleased. Jae-Kuk decided that ending his soccer career was the ultimate way to get back at his father, even if it meant giving up on his childhood dream of being a world class soccer player. The fact that Jae-Kuk has now pursued a career in hockey is yet another way of getting back at his father, according to the source. Jae-Kuk’s father had tried and failed to become a professional hockey player in his youth. It should be noted that this information is unconfirmed but comes from a reliable source. We have reached out to Jae-Kuk, his father and sister but all three declined to comment. Whatever the situation with Han Jae-Kuk it is certainly strange, but we wish him the best as he transitions from soccer to hockey. 15. Junior Review: Han Jae-Kuk Han Jae-Kuk, better known by his English name Jake Han, has had a very short career in hockey to his point. Jae-Kuk only has one year of junior play under his belt, coming over to hockey following a very successful youth career in soccer. Following some personal issues Jae-Kuk decided to call his soccer career quits and move on to another sport. He joined the Anyang Halla of the Asia League Ice Hockey after showing up to the open try-outs. While Jae-Kuk is very new to ice hockey he flashed elite athleticism, and great IQ when on the ice during his try-outs. The coaches decided that he showed enough raw skill to take a flyer on him. Over the course of last season he saw himself climb from the third-line defense up to the first-line, helping his team to win the league championship in his only season. His stats from last season are not eye-popping, as his skills are very raw. However, watching the tape from his first game to his last game with Anyang it is evident of the rapid growth in his on-ice skill. Also his game IQ is clearly high-level as his defensive positioning leaves almost nothing to be desired. Where he struggled most was on the offensive end, where his lack of skill was evident all season long. While he demonstrated good hand-eye coordination and stick handling, he struggled with actually passing and striking the puck properly. He also was bullied quite often over the season because of his smaller stature, bigger defenders were able to move him more frequently than desired. Jae-Kuk seemed to be a fan favorite during his time with Anyang. He regularly interacted with the fans, and was always happy to do interviews. He seemed very dedicated to promoting himself and the club, which could bode well for any teams that want to take a chance on him in the future. What he showed at Anyang is that he is a very marketable player, who could easily become a face of the franchise. Looking through his short career in hockey, we can learn a few things. Jae-Kuk has incredible athleticism and smarts which both translate well into playing hockey. He also is extremely fast at developing his game and improving. However, he has very raw talent when it comes to actually playing the game of hockey. He has almost no offensive ability, and even though he has good positioning he can get bullied off his spots. Any team looking to sign him must look past his shortcomings in favor of his upside, and the fact that he has shown he can win.

  18. 34. Are you happy with how your player is playing right now? Right now im playing in the VHLM, and I am pleased with my performance but there is definitely room for improvement. 18Pts in 19 Gms is not bad but I can do better. 47. What is your favourite sport to watch and why? Not everyone on here is NHL, which can be surprising at times. Growing up in America, Football has to be my favorite sport (The American kind hehe). It has just been ingrained into me, I have watched it since I can remember and I absolutely love it. Going to college and being able to go to NCAA football games every weekend just fueled my love for the sport even more. 46. Where's a place you haven't visited but you'd like to or are planning to? I am planning to go to London and I am so excited! I really want to catch a Tottenham game while I'm there. I know I said American Football was my favorite sport but Futbol is up there. Plus I've heard that going to a Premier League game live is quite the experience so I can't wait! GO SPURS!!
