  2. We can offer you a spot in our top 6. Las Vegas has become a real threat in a short amount of time under all new management.
  3. Vegas would be overjoyed to have you

  5. VHLforum has a limit on attachments. You can view your uploaded attachments by clicking on the down arrow beside your profile pic in the top right and clicking 'My Attachments'. Best practice would be to upload your pictures to a free hosting site and post the link from there. VHLforum will active resolve the link to a raw image automatically. I personally use; https://postimages.org/
  6. Draft day...if there was one moment in a hockey players young career which warranted the highest amount of excitement, this is it. Julian Borwinn came into the league soaring and is not slowing down. Although he had his sights on a first round selection his expectations were at the second round. Las Vegas' GM stepped up to the podium with a rye smile; "With the 8th overall selection in the VHLM entry draft, the Las Vegas Aces are ecstatic to select left winger Julian Borwinn". Borwinn jolted out of his seat, no doubt he became antsy knowing his name was not far off from being called. He had a successful one on one interview that day with the Aces GM and had positive vibes this is where he was to play his junior year. With the season just over 24 hours away; Borwinn has continued to work like a madman. Squeezing out each and every moment he has to improving every facet of his game. There is no going back. Borwinn is committed to making his mark in juniors and will be closely scouted by the GM's of the VHL. This is a player to keep an eye on, trust me.
  7. 1) Since it's not been too long since you've joined the league, what are thoughts on the league so far as a whole? I'm hooked. The community is great, there are always new updates/media spots/graphics etc. 2) Are there any areas in the league that you would like to see a change/improvement? The VHL and VHLM index pages appear to be quite outdated. Perhaps those could use a refresh. 3) The VHLM Newsletter launched earlier this week, did you read it and was it helpful to you? This was the most helpful article I have read since joining. Assisted me greatly with getting off to such a hot start earning TPE. 4) What are your aims this season in the VHLM? Hit the 175 TPE max allowed for a VHLM player and get drafted in the first round of the VHL entry draft. As the Assistant GM of Las Vegas, we are hoping to get this club back on the map and contend for a championship while assisting members with remaining active. 5) With the teams starting to take shape, who do you consider to be the favorite for the VHLM Founders Cup? Go Vegas! No bias I swear. 6b) What do you think of your current VHLM team? (If you were selected in the VHLM Draft) We have a solid core of forwards and d-men along with an up and coming star in net. All the recipes for a successful season.

Excited to get started. Thanks for the opportunity!
  12. Honored to have been selected 8th overall in tonight's VHLM entry draft.

    Lets go Las Vegas Aces!

  13. Thank you! It is an honor to be selected so early. I was wondering all day who was going to take a chance on me. You won't regret the pick.
  14. What round of the draft do you predict being selected in?
  15. 1. You've gotten off to a very quick start with your TPE earning, already fast approaching 100. How easy has it been for you to get to where you are so far? For the first hour or so I clicked around and used some of the tutorials (which are out dated) but I was likely using the wrong versions or whatever. The newsletter you made https://vhlforum.com/messenger/21725/?tab=comments#comment-86678 was incredibly helpful so thank you very much for that. 2. With that being said, with the VHLM Draft approaching, how early do you think you'll be taken in that draft? Mid 2nd round. Although If someone takes an off the board selection on me in the first round, they will not regret it. I have started quick and am not planning to slow down. 3. I launched the VHLM newsletter yesterday, what did you think of it and did it provide you with helpful information? See answer for Q1. Very very very helpful. 4. With your name having "win" in it, what do you think you be the best pun using your name for any time you get a game-winning goal? "The game was anything but a BORe when Julian notched the WIN" Ya its bad....this one stumped me. 5. Is there any player entering the VHLM Draft that you consider your rival or someone you'd consider yourself in friendly competition with? First things first, I do not know anyone on a personal level in this league. Joined via Reddit campaign. I'll say 'Karl von Moltke' at this time since he is the highest ranked LW available going into the VHLM draft. 6. You mentioned in your biography that you had one of your lungs collapse when you were younger, are there any concerns about this happening again or have you been given the proper reassurances that this won't happen again unless something drastic happens? Doctors have reassured I can play professional hockey well into my 30's or even early 40's. The miracles of modern medicine. Thank you for your time, see you all at the draft!

  17. Been here for only a few days but I am loving what I see. Writing my player Biography was my favorite task so far... soon to be trumped by the VHLM draft! Looking forward to the journey.
  18. Basking in excitement I created a draftee image, to be later edited with the drafted team logo...TBD
  19. Its been less than 72 hours since Borwinn announced his return to ice hockey. Several of those hours were spent on ice and in the training room. Borwinn has improved in several facets of the game. We do not expect this to slow down any time soon. Borwinn's dedication is hard to miss. Checking/Strength - Small bump in improvement. Borwinn spent time in the weight room and performed some clean hitting drills. Borwinn has inquired about joining a boxing class. He will never project to be a fighter but he would still like to be able to hold his own and be able to jump in and protect his teammates. Discipline - Before Julian hits the ice for practice he was seen sitting bench-side, taking in the sights and sounds of the arena. Almost like a Zen aura overcomes him. How does this relate to discipline. Well he certainly has been level headed through all the media attention...This is a hard area to gauge without actual on ice results. Skating/Puck handling - Borwinn's order of #?? pylons and pucks from Amazon arrived early Friday. Confirmed, Borwinn has Amazon prime. It's a no brainer his edge work is at a high to elite level. His skating and puck handling drills are nothing to shake a stick at. Look for this attribute to continue to improve. Oh and he's fast, scary fast. Passing/Shooting - Do wrists develop calluses? Borwinn means business whether he is passing or shooting. This is the area of his game that was worked on above and beyond anything else. Hours of shooting, wrist shots, slap shots, snap shots, dump passes, lob passes, passes on the move, off the boards... he's practiced them all. This is the type of player you want on your line, your team, and in your dressing room. The Draft Julian Borwinn will be drafted, no doubt about that. Playmakers are the perfect complement to a sniper. We suspect Borwinn to be relied upon on the powerplay as well as holding a defensive roll on the penalty kill. The anticipation is off the charts. He is hungry to play and even hungrier to win. Borwinn may be seen as a sleeper pick by some but this player is on a fast track for success. Fun Fact Julian Borwinn is an avid Disc Golfer. During the off season Borwinn travels to a few local towns and takes part in tournaments. Just last month Borwinn finished in a tie for 2nd place at a local league championship event. He is also well known in his home town as the kid who attained 3 aces in the matter of 21 days; a truly impressive feat. The main attributes of a Disc Golfer are strength, accuracy, foot-work and hand eye co-ordination; all skills apparent in his hockey repertoire.
  20. 11 years is a long time no matter how you look at it. For Julian Borwinn the last 11 years were spent in the roller hockey arena. What does this mean for his outlook? at 27 years old an athletes ability to improve is certainly slowed. Their window of opportunity becomes less apparent. Borwinn wants to prove this wrong. His early years were spent on the ice, every waking minute. When Borwinn decided it was time to leave the wheels behind and trade those in for blades, he seemed to have picked up a new gear. A spark in his step... a twinkle in his eyes. Over the weekend Borwinn has been on the ice. The familiarity was not lost on him. Pucks, pylons and rope were scattered along the ice surface. But no hockey stick in his hands. His tool of choice - a broom? What is this...Threatlevel Midnight? Borwinn swept the ice as he worked his way back into ice hockey readiness. His ice sessions, hours at a time, ended with accuracy passes and shooting drills (the hockey stick made an appearance for these). his main area of focus?...well....everything. One would think Borwinn would hit the showers following these long practice sessions. However, Julian would immediately hit the weight room for some time on the bike. His eyes set on the draft. Borwinn is hoping he does enough to at least be on the radar this time around. We caught up with him after last nights training session and asked about his outlook going forward - "I am well aware of the tough road ahead. Being away from the ice for all these years....well...to say the least, I missed it. This is more than just a sport or a career to me, this is my livelihood. Everything that I've done over the last decade+ led me to this decision. I grow anxious with every hour. I've even been dreaming hockey. I haven't dreamed so vividly since I was a child. I feel like I have a new purpose, a new goal to work towards. I am remaining realistic. This draft is likely a long-shot but I will keep working at it. Every day. This is where I am meant to be." Yes we also asked bum about the broom; "Haha I knew this one was coming. No, it's not a drill inspired by Michael Scarn. This is a legitimate way to learn perceptiveness and hand eye co-ordination. Everything we do in life is perfected by muscle memory. When I'm out there for hours with a broom stick in hand then someone hands me a hockey stick. The ease of holding just a hockey stick is incredible. Your body almost feels forced to keep the stick along the ice. Ive also been working on my wrist strength. You ever sweep a broom along the ice? It's a workout. I can feel myself getting stronger." Borwinn's time will come. This man bleeds hockey.
  21. Added additional details in the strenghts and weaknesses sections. Thank's for the heads up guys.
  22. Julian Borwinn - LW - Playmaker Ontario, Canada Age: 27 Height: 73 in. Weight: 182 lbs. Handedness: Left Shot Preference: Wrist Bio Summary The 27 year old Left-Winger is a recently retired roller hockey professional. His 11 seasons of roller hockey involving 4 provincial championships, 8 all star appearances and 3 national championship titles. The achievements are off the charts. But his true love, ice hockey, always echoed in his thoughts. Someday, somehow, Julian would find his way back on the ice. Scouting Report (excerpt from player biography) Full Bio can be viewed here: https://vhlforum.com/topic/51359-julian-borwinn-biography/ Borwinn was scouted as an elite play-maker. A play-maker with the capability of finding the smallest gap to his target. Julian has always been able to hold his own when his time came to score. His skating ability is exceedingly impressive and has the ability to turn on a dime, especially in the corners. His all around nature also provides Borwinn with a strong defensive game and can be relied upon even if he is the last man back. Fitness has always been important to Borwinn's development tactics. His on and off season workout plans include carefully prepared meal portions and daily workouts of his upper and lower body. When the time comes for him to take or receive a check, Borwinn can certainly hold his own. Discipline was never an issue for Borwinn. His teammates would agree he would be in the running for the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy each and every season if he were an NHL skater. Borwinn amassed 104 points in 48 games during his final roller hockey season. His coaching staff had nothing but glowing remarks for the left winger. Prediction Julian will require some fine tuning but projects to be a force that will fit in to any teams top 6. Trying to gauge his outlook is a tall task. He has the potential to be an elite skater but will need to convert his roller hockey skills to ice hockey know how. This is not expected to be an issue for the 27 year old. Keep an eye on this talented left winger. The dedication Borwinn brings to the arena each and every day will prove crucial in his development. Strengths Passing - As stated above, his ability to find even the smallest avenue gives Borwinn a strong chance at becoming an elite playmaker in the VHL. Shooting - Accurate passing typically means accurate shooting ability. Borwinn possesses strong wrist action and above average puck handling. Skating - Borwinn's edge work is certainly one of his strongest assets. His corner work and possession game will complement his ability to move the puck. Borwinn has been known to use the odd rap-around attempt. His long leg span also assist with his ability to gain speed down the wing. Look for Borwinn to be involved in odd man rushes. Defense - What do GM's desire most in a forward? A balance of strong offensive and defensive ability. Julian certainly has these capabilities. His take away game was near the top of the roller hockey league. While inline hockey and ice hockey are vastly different, Julian's prior years of ice hockey helped to develop a strong hockey sense. These skills complemented with the accuracy requires to play hockey on roller-blades provides confidence that Borwinn will find success at the VHL level. Areas of Improvement Checking - While Borwinn can both take and receive a check without much concern, his strengh and conditioning will need to be held in high priority as he ages. Strength - Borwinn's corner work is nothing to shake a stick at, however, his board play does leave something to desire. Improvement in this facet begins with continuous strength and conditioning training. Face-offs - Yes, he is a winger, but every now and then a winger does need to step in on the draw. Roller hockey does not follow this same rule therefore leaving Borwinn's face-off abilities rather raw. Aggression - More of the same to say here similar to strength. If Borwinn can spend an extra few hours in strength training we believe his aggression will also benefit greatly.
