  1. It's all about the context of the sig. I use Arial or Helvetica quite a lot, they're simple, but versatile. When I saw your sig I immediately thought of Swiss/Danish/Scandinavian graphic design, stuff like this: They use simple fonts and focus a lot more on the composition and colours, but the results are really cool.
  2. Review: Nice first graphic! I don't make the rules but I'd say it fits right in! Not sure what software you're using, but if it's Photoshop or GIMP, I have a few suggestions: For the text, try match the colours to the piece a bit more, the black and white kind of clashes with the strong colour theme. Nice work on the jersey changes though, that effort is always appreciated. For the colour overlays, I'd try a different Blend Mode for the colour layers. Something like Lighten, Darken, Soft Light or Hue might bring everything together in a smoother way. Keep at it, and feel free to message or reply here if you have any questions!
  3. Review: This has a few elements that I like. Splatter effects are always cool, and nice work on the jersey change. You could try sharpening the render, he looks a bit out of focus here, compared to the text and effects. I'll challenge you to try layering some stocks on top to blend the render with the splatter effects. You could try some of the tips outlined in my thread here: Keep at it!
  4. Review: I like the composition, but I'd change a few things if keeping with this style. I'd use a super simple text, go all out with the Danish design. Something like Helvetica or Arial in all-caps, black or red, would look really slick I think. Then put a red to white gradient map over the render to keep the whole thing cohesive. Keep at it!
  5. Review: I think what you did here is pretty cool, but I would love to see your push a little further as well. Trying layering some stocks on top of the render. Maybe try a few of the techniques I outlined here: Let me know if you have any questions as well! Keep at it.
  6. Review: The blending from his shoulder to the background is really good, which makes the area around Kane's hair seem awkward. Would've liked to see the same texturing and lighting up there. The background and the noise effects are well-executed here. I'd try something a bit simpler for the text, but it's not too bad!
  7. Review: This is slick. Simple but well executed. text is pretty nice, I'd just try to match the colour a bit closer to the colouring on the render. Also, the text seems sharper than the render's face, which kind of pulls the focus away. Looking forward to seeing more of your work!
  8. Review: Only downside I'd mention in this is that the combination of effects on the render has caused his face to drop quite a bit in quality. The colours are really cool, good composition, and as I said above I really like the text. Love seeing your work.
  9. Review: The background is hilarious (hil-hair-ious?) but overall this has a nice look. I like the additional lighting effects, definitely makes the text work better than it would have. I would recommend trying a few things with stocks over the render, trying to blend everything in a bit more. Keep it up.
  10. Thorny Underyew: The Welsh Walloper LAS VEGAS - MONDAY JUNE 17, 2019 Height: 6' 3" - 190cm Weight: 240lbs - 109kg Position: Centre Underyew has recently moved to North America to pursue a career in the VHL. His recent signing with the Las Vegas Aces puts him in the right direction, although many are unsure if he can maintain the dominance that he has experienced in the UK. Underyew is from Wales, a country that has had very little homegrown talent make a splash across the pond. Underyew undoubtedly has skill, size, and cunning, but scouts are wary of his perseverance and commitment to playing hockey at the highest level. Thorny has only played in the UK, his most recent stint playing for the Sheffield Steelers. His debut saw him rack up 4 points, including 2 goals. The season was middling for the Steelers as a whole, but Thorny put up excellent numbers. He tallied 22 goals and 18 assists through 48 games played as a rookie. We'll have to wait until S67 to see Thorny suit up, and it's likely that he'll be assigned to a different team, as Las Vegas has only 1 draft pick in the upcoming dispersal draft. This is what we expect to see from Underyew as the 67th season gets underway: Pros Shooting: Hockey is not popular in Wales, and we doubt that Thorny really had too many people to play against for most of his upbringing. We'd hazard a guess that he spent a lot of time practicing his shot, and it sure shows. We've seen him score from nearly everywhere in the offensive zone, from seemingly impossible angles. Below the circles, behind the net, through traffic, while falling down, he can so often overcome adversity and find a way to get the puck in the net. Intimidation: It's not just his size. There is a threatening air that surrounds Thorny Underyew that very few will enter into. People fear him when he's skating down the ice, and it seems to give him an extra edge. He will not relent, he will go straight through anyone that stands in his way. He will likely face more adversity entering the bigger International leagues, but we suspect that his confidence is built-in and will not fade. Game Control: We have seen games where Underyew is able to single-handedly take over and change the pace. His mere presence on the ice can create space and opportunities, as seen with his team-leading +/- of +20 on a net negative team. Expect Underyew to find chemistry with anyone and make his teammates better. Cons Positioning: The UK is not nearly as developed as North America or Northern Europe when it comes to coaching and development. While Thorny certainly has raw skill, we expect to see him looking a little lost at times in the elite context. This will be the number one concern for GMs at the draft looking at Thorny. Discipline: Thorny has a tendency to to take some unnecessary penalties, sometimes costing his team dearly. Expect coaches to come down hard on him, and hope that he listens to that advice, or he may spend more time on the bench—or in the press box—than he'd like to. Communication: Thorny is relatively reserved, and may not adjust very well to the media's and his teammates' expectations. And that accent, who knows what he's saying on the ice? --- Thorny will enter the S68 draft class, and is expected to go close to, if not in, the first round.
  11. puttin you first on the list!
  12. I'm gonna bump this due to recent discussions
  13. I think @Beketov is bang on here. I'd like to add a few more things. I started out making forum sigs when I was in grade 5, after Noah showed me Photoshop. It probably took me a month to figure out how to even pirate Photoshop for the first time. It took em a long time to make anything close to good. Since then, I've turned into one of the top gfx guys on the site, even though my presence has been in and out over time. I will say that having guys like koradek, beketov, boubabi et al making amazing sigs really drove me to improve, and having a concrete reason (moving from 4s, to 5s to 6s) really gave me that extra push to improve. Here is what I would suggest for both GFX Ranks: Submitting to GFX Ranks should be able to replace a VHL.com player card/graphic whatever, even if it's the same piece that you used for a point task Anyone who fully participates in a season should win a free week or something along those lines. Less free TPE, but makes the effort worth it Have extra free weeks for top 3 or so, maybe some bonus TPE Graphics PTs in general: Bring back grading. Even if we only require 1 grade. Use the old rubric (Effort /2, Look /3, Creativity /1) Maybe swap Look and Effort New members get a grace period for auto 6s. Not sure how long it would be (until their first draft? six months?). Sigs can still be graded so they know how they can improve Offering feedback in the PT section or Graphics section should also be able to replace Player Cards. Two or three solid pieces of feedback are way better for community and engagement than someone making the 60th shitty player card with 5% effort It definitely seems like it's easier these days to earn TPE, which isn't necessarily bad, but I think the above changes could promote activity and create a resurgence in people wanting to make sick gfx. I'm also open to creating some sort of committee or resource collective for people who can share their expertise.
