  6. @Reverb and @Beketov I think it is clear that the longest standing members of this leauge are the ones who have been forged by fire. Guys like @Bushito , @Advantage and yourselves will always have my respect because over my year here I have come to learn more and more of leauge history. I will always a respect a person who is a survivor, who faces a battle head on and deals with the consequences. I think when I hear those stories it makes me see all the fire i have faced and stayed through as a right of passage. And maybe just maybe it gives me a bit of VHL street cred lol I might as well thank @diamond_ace for inspiring this whole thing in this tag fest as well lol
  7. A VHL Story A recent conversation got me thinking about what the VHL story has been over the years. There is much that goes into the success of a sim league and I believe that longevity is often due to the dedication of the members. For me specifically this makes me think of long-time members that have dedicated so much of their lives to running teams or listening to players who bare their souls in the early hours of the mornings. My thoughts drift to all the players of the team I have managed in my short tenure as a VHLM GM. All the stories that I shared with them, the stories they shared with me and what we created together. The VHL theme week gave me an opportunity to look back and think how much long-time members, specifically ones that have been around from Season One, must have seen throughout their seemingly endless VHL careers. The Article I would have loved to have had the opportunity to write here is one that I can not tell as a recent member. I would tell the back story of the league, but the truth is that those are not my stories to tell nor could a new member do them justice. There are indeed some things that the “ole boys” know best and this topic is one of them. The things I am referring to are not necessarily tracked on the forums these days. They are the VHL narrative. To explain this thought fully you must understand that there is a story that is told on each sim site. Simplified, it is both the interaction of users and their players. Basically, it is they dynamic created when a bunch of people who throw their sticks in a pile and decide to play a game of pick up hockey. You find friends and enemies. People who are smart or dumb, maybe that one annoying person who is just waiting for you to fall so they can laugh or even the person who leaves halfway through the game for no reason. You find all that and everything else in-between, to say the lease it makes for a riveting story that gets it's hooks into even the most somber person. I can honestly say that I doubt this perspective gets explored much. As it is a sideshow to what is usually seen as the main event, I am of course talking about the sim. However, in my personal experience I can say that a printout of what happened in fake hockey is not what keeps me around. To this day I can say the users and their stories, whether fictional or real is what keeps me coming back for more. So in my attempt to honor the old boys, I am using this VHL.com to reach out and inspire the new guys to write their own narrative. Reach out and create a story. Make connections with the people you meet and have some fun. after all, that is what the VHL has been since inception and that is what we as new members should continue to do in order to honor those who have put so much into a seemingly simple sim site.
  8. And this is why I rarely write articles...
  9. Wahl Vs. Wahl Brick Wahl 2.0 was supposed to be the new and improved version of the Original HOF Brick Wahl @Advantage . What many people might not know is that the league’s current Wahl, Calgary’s Staring Goalie, is related to his predecessor. This Uncle and Nephew pair do not only share names, they are both goalies and both grew up in western Canada. The Younger Bricks Biography even mentions that he became a goalie because of his uncle’s influence. The Elder Brick Wahl is a HOF Goalie with many awards to his name, he like his nephew was very loyal to his team the New York Americans. He was regarded as a solid regular season goalie but amazing in tournaments and Playoffs. His Nephew Also has chosen to spend his Career with the Calgary Wranglers. I guess it would be safe to say that these goalies just come from loyal stock. The Younger Brick seems to have let his personal life get in the way of excellence. His career has been riddled in scandal and that is phrasing it nicely. His love life has been splashed across the tabloids so much that many wonder how the young goalie can make time to be on the ice with how much trouble he gets into and that is without mentioning his yearly tradition od getting smashed before he plays in the ASG, someone should tell the guy we all know. How could you not? The guy let in like 9 goals! I am guessing that many people wonder just what exactly the Older Brick thinks of what has become of his nephew’s reputation and career. After setting such a solid example of what a goalie should be for his team the Older Brick has been forced to watch his nephew piss away his career on what seems to be an ever-struggling franchise. What must make matters worse is knowing that someone has the talent and skills to be amazing but keeps making decisions that cast a bad light on the situation. The Truth is no matter how good the younger Brick plays for the rest of his career he will never catch up to his Hall of Fame uncle. This leads to the question of whether we will see an early retirement for the first time in the Wahl family? Or will the Younger Brick keep pushing through and make the best of what he has left? IT can be hard living up to a legend, I can only imagine how hard that would be when you share the exact same name. One thing is for sure, I would not want to be the younger Brick Wahl in this situation. I have often heard announcers call him the lesser Wahl or the Electric Boogaloo Wahl and that can not be easy on anyone’s psyche. When asked about being compared to his uncle in a recent interview this is what the younger Wahl had to say. “I love my uncle; without him I would not be here. He is the reason that I decided to play hockey. My dream was to be as good as he was, and I can say I am still working towards that goal. Who knows if I will ever get there, but I can tell you one thing for sure, I am having fun trying! It is an honor to share my name with such a talented man, and I hope that regardless of how my career has tuned out that he is proud I stuck with it and gave it my best shot” 595 (Claiming for week of 27th Theme week post)

  12. Titans of the Industry Part B - The One Who Shoulders It All! Continuing on with the Titans of the industry articles we explore one of Helsinki's best strongholds, Alexander Pepper! Now lets see which Titans he most closely resembles! G- Alexander Pepper-Sonnet- Atlas; The God who holds the heavens aloft and the personification of endurance. Atlas was a leader of the Titans (Titans) in their war against Zeus and after their defeat he was condemned to carry the heavens upon his shoulders. At a later time, the gods took pity on and appointed him as guardian of the pillars which were built to support the heavens in his sky stead. At this point Atlas was also given the vocation of teaching mortals navigation via astronomy. If this is not the definition of a veteran goalie like Alexander Pepper Idk what is. There have been many seasons where Pepper has been the keystone that allows the team to focus on some purely offensive strategies and it is because he is that good. Able to shoulder the brunt on any opposing teams’ offense largely by himself to free up his defensive team to help on the offensive barrage on the opposite end of the ice. Pepper is consistent pillar that the Titans know they can lean on. If you add in the fact that he has taken many young goalies under his wing and has helped them to become great as well it really lays down for the argument of Pepper being like Atlas and that is without mentioning that Sonnet happens to be the Titans’ AGM.
  13. Titans of The Industry Part A : King of the Titans The Titans once again look like they are going to be having a larger than life season to honor that this article will be looking one of the best Helsinki has to offer. In what is hopefully a fun and whimsical twist we will be turning the Titans top players into actual VHL titans over a series of short VHL.com articles. In Part 1 of this article the players of Helsinki were likened to forces of nature, now they will become them. Now sit back, relax and enjoy this ultimate fluff piece of an article! (for at least part a of it) Note: I did not realize how many of titans were female, the ratio was way more off than I was expecting. It only makes sense that because of this that some of the guys ended up getting a female Titan. But they had the better powers anyways, so I think it all works out! C-Kronos Bailey – @Quik- Kronos; King of the Titans and God of Time. The fact that Kronos is named after the legendary leader of the titans of ancient Greece cements his role as the leader of the team both on and off the ice. Bailey is a GM player, a top line Centre and knows how to rack up the points. When Bailey gives an order, you can hear the roar of replies that come from his team full of Titans ready to do his bidding. Kronos is a strong leader, that knows what it takes to be the best. This is a guy that isn’t afraid to bring in the best because he knows he can go toe to toe with them.
  14. 10 new questions Wranglers! 15. @ShawnGlade nice to see it was time to make Jr! Good luck with tearing up the vhlm
  16. Can someone please draft all the Howes from SBA... I just wanna see how it looks to have a line of Howes lol
  17. @Beketov and @Quik might be able to look into that for you and look at all them Howe Boys!!!! lol
  18. I love it @Jubo07 Never gets old seeing people make Wahl Graphics thank you!
  19. @Beketov @Quik can we get this closed down? Just a lot of ugly on this thread and the last thing we need if for this to blow up more. Both parties, @Beaviss and @DilIsPickle, have been encouraged to talk this out and i am sure the leauge would be happy to reverse this retirement in light of the recent events if both parties were game. As Calgary's AGM it saddens me to see deals turn sour and I would never wish these events on anyone. @Banackock I believe as Calgary AGM that makes me Bush's minion in training so you might want to lay off that angle (Unless I have been replaced @Bushito and i didn't know about it ). Honestly, we all could be helping these 2 ppl find a solution instead of building this up to something nefarious. My wish would be to see my former teammate do well on his new team
