The Swede who once prided himself on being a sniper and a volume shooter is now embracing the playmaker label. "I still like to take a lot of shots but my accuracy in VHL for some reason hasn't been great most seasons, a lot of times nothing will go in. I was forced to learn to pass, but it helps the team and I'm one point shy of being a point per game thanks to my assist heavy season this year. As long as I can be effective I guess that's all that matters even if it's not the direction I saw my career going in or how I wanted to turn out as a player, sometimes you just gotta roll with the punches and that's what I'm doing. 12 assists in 19 games, I'm thinking if I can't score that much this year I'll set a personal best in assists, and maybe in turn I'll be able to set a personal best in points. And hopefully that role is what the team has needed and will help us to win; I really need to get a championship now or never. My career is winding down, I don't have much time left. Riga has to win it all this year or that's really it," said Pat Svoboda.

Mac Hooper - The end of his first season

1. How do you think your current season is going? 2. How well do you see your team doing this season? 3. What's the biggest challenge for the youngest players in the league? 4. What NHL player would you compare your guy to? 5. What do you think your player's biggest strengths are? 6. What would it mean to you to win a championship? 7. What is the best part about your team's locker room? 8. What did you do to prepare for this season in the offseason? 9. Where do you see yourself 3 seasons from now? 10. What do you want your legacy to be after your player's career is over? -
Pat Svoboda discussed how the season has started for both himself and the team. "I started off great the first three games, 3 points in 3 games, then only 1 point over the last 3 so I've slowed down a bit. Wanted to keep the pedal to the metal the whole year but there's still plenty of time, it's early, I can shake off this funk before it truly begins if I don't get worked up about it. Just need to find the rhythm that I had down pat in the playoffs last year. As for the team we aren't doing bad but it could be better. We are middle of the pack and we need to do more if we want to make it all the way. We're 3-2-1 so not a winning record or a losing record. All we need is to string together 3 or 4 wins these next few games to get to the top of the standings, there's no large gap yet between the top and the bottom teams. At this point in the season, it's anyone's game; we just need to work hard and do whatever it takes to get victories, leave it all out there on the ice," said Pat Svoboda.

Pat Svoboda returned to the arena after a rejuvenating summer, ready to partake in the year's training camp. He talked about his aspirations and goals for the upcoming season with nearby reporters covering the event. "This will be my fifth season in the league; it seems like just yesterday I was drafted fifth overall. I had a bounce back season last year, got 57 points, but I want to get back in the 70-80 point threshhold this year. I passed 25 goals last year, which was great and exactly what I wanted to do going in, if I can improve my total by at least 3 goals I can get back into the 30 goal range which would be the ideal. I'm thinking I'm going to have a bigger role this year, which should help; more ice time means more scoring, and I'll be able to get more opportunities. Able to make more of a difference for my team. I want to be a leader for Riga and to play a big part in bringing us to a Continental Cup victory, so it'll be awesome to see my coaches have more faith in me. I made a statement with my playoffs breakout and hopefully my coaches saw that and it pays off," said Pat Svoboda.

Pat Svoboda spoke to the media after Riga's heartbreaking elimination from the playoffs, and was happy to discuss his offseason plans. "It's definitely good to get my mind off of hockey, good to think about the offseason and doing some fun things. I'm intending to travel, I am planning on going to Hawaii and surfing the Pacific for a few days. Probably do some hiking too, there's some sick volcanoes and stuff. Then I'll head back to Riga and start training, maybe host a few team movie nights at my place. There'll be some fan events too that I agreed to do where I'll sign stuff for some fans and take pictures with some kids. It'll be nice to just goof off for a little bit and relax, everything has been super stressful for a long time. Before you know it, the next season will be starting up again and it'll be back to the grind once again. Having a break is exactly what we need to get back into the right state of mind to come back and win it all. Work hard and play hard, that's what they say, I intend to do both of those," said Pat Svoboda.
