Kaladin Kvothe hasn't exactly has the start to his career that he had hoped for after the draft. A middling rookie campaign with New York was capped off by a nasty achilles injury in the off-season which ruled him out for summer training. Complications through the season led to Kvothe having a torrid time, culminating in a trade that sent the young Brit to Warsaw. The change of location didn't spark any kind of uptick in form, as his Achilles was still causing problems, noticeable in the wingers lack of space and loss of explosiveness. His minutes were limited as pain in his ankle kept forcing him off the ice after extended shifts. Finally the tough decision had to be made, Kvothe decided to go for the tough option of writing off the rest of the season and opting for surgery to fix his tendon. It would require and extra few months of rehab and it's unsure if he still has a future in the league. With options limited and free agency looming, Kvothe received a call from the DC Dragons, a team that has had connections to Kvothe's agency in the past and a history of looking for value in unusual places. As they say third time is the charm and only time will tell if Kvothe can recover fully from the injury that's hampered his development and show the VHL what they've been waiting for.

Based on a real trip that I'm planning to go on this summer if Covid allows.

Kvothe recently took advantage of a break in the Halifax schedule to take a couple of weeks of to pursue some outdoor recreation. Taking a plane to Geneve, Switzerland and then a long train journey down south to the Italian and French border. Kvothe arrived at the start of the multi-day hike with huge levels of excitement to start. Travelling light with some specialised backpacks and a small one man tent, he set out to complete the famous Tour du Mont Blanc. The 103 mile long route weaves it's way around the snow capped peak of the Mont Blanc through a huge variety of terrain, from craggy cliffs to sprawling mountain meadows covered in a thick carpet of lush grash and wild flowers. The route generally takes about 9-12 days depending on the pace, with travellers staying in refuges, almost like hostels, or alternatively on campsites. Commonly people will even wild camp up on the mountain, which, while technically illegal, is generally allowed if you're being sensible. Packing just the essentials, Kvothe set off. The journey started in the mountain town of Chamonix and an early morning gondola ride up to Planplaz. The first day involved a brisk hike up to the top of a small peak to get the first great view of the Mont Blanc and some of the major glaciers dotted around the range, Kaladin took the first day to adjust his gear and find the best way to settle his pack to carry it easily, the rigorous weight saving meant he was only carrying about 12lbs, with just one set of clothes and spare underwear and socks. His new shoes were wearing a bit of his heels after the first day but nothing a good plaster couldn't solve. Thef irst night camping down in the town Merlet it was blissful to settle down onto a wooden bench outside the refuge, eating some hot stew with strangers as the chatted around the fire. Though his feet and calves ached from the strenuous pace and steep elevation change, the views of the star strewn night sky, clear of any light pollution lifted his spirits along with the company of fellow travellers. With a full stomach and a light heart, Kvothe took to his small tent to wrap up warm against the chill alpine air in a soft down sleeping bag, ready to continue on his adventure in the early hours of the next morning. As the morning sun crept over the crystalline peaks of the french mountain range, it also shone down upon the dew-speckled pyramid that Kvothe was staying in, after a serious mental effort to emerge from his cosy cocoon. Kvothe packed up his tent, wolfed down a thick bacon baguette and began the second day. One of the longer days of the entire trip this stretch weighs in at a rangy 16km with 1300 metres of ascent with a 900m descent. The route starts of weaving through the thick grassy fields in the valley before taking a sharp rise up though dense forest, Kvothe found that after entering the forest the thick tree cover meant that there was almost no wind and despite the shade from the broad leaves of the wood above, the sun cause the temperature to rise and in no time at all it meant Kaladin had to strip off his fleece and jumper. Emerging from the forest there was chance to turn back and admire the gorgeous view of the valley floor laid out below like a vibrant tapestry, with deep greens contrasting the bare rock cliffs that hemmed in the quant village houses and single track road. With a smile on his face and the ache in his legs nigh forgotten, Kaladin turned and set off up the mountain again.

Halifax fans will have been more then pleased with the performances of their recent acquisition in Kaladin Kvothe. The winger has been on fire since his relocation up north to the Canadian seaside city. Pre-trade Kvothe notched 9 goals and 13 assists in 18 games while in his 13 games with the 21st he has almost matched that total already with 10 goals and 9 assists. This is due in no small part to the better passing support he has behind him in Halifax and this is evidenced in his shot totals that he's getting off, already with 95 shots in the 13 games compared to 90 in San Diego. Unfortunately this productions isn't translating to the win column, with Halifax slumping down to 9th overall in the standings. The team is struggling with the lack of a true center to distribute the puck. Kaladin has this to say when asked about the season so far: "Well of course I'm not super happy at the moment, we're losing a lot of games right now and I don't really understand why I was brought in here when we're not being being the tools to succeed. I guess we just have to keep grinding and see if we can pull out as many points as are available. I'll be doing my best to lead this team as well as I can and help our new guys out in adjusting to the league.

"Well I can't say I'm super happy with how this went down, generally I'd expect a GM to give a player advance warning on if they are going to be traded. I could understand if it was a draft day trade where things can move very fast or near the trade deadline but waking up to my Twitter feed full up with Halifax fans saying welcome isn't the way I'd expect a professional franchise to treat it's players. In terms of team success it looks like it's a basically a slight upgrade, Halifax have struggled much like the Marlins have to start the season. TO be honest I'm slightly confused at this move for the 21st, unless the GM has a lot more trades in the works then I don't see this roster competing with the likes of the Storm. Bulls and Kings this season and I'll be going up to New York next season most likely. It looks like we'd need a few more good quality defensemen and a top center if we want to see Halifax in the top half of the playoff seeds come the end of the season. Personally it should be a good move for me, a bit more passing support to free me up for some more scoring will be good for my game and there's a lot of young talent that I can help develop over the course of this season. I aim to become a good leader of this team and see if we can give the fans in Nova Scotia something to cheer about.

Well, I've just joined so yet to see what it's like playing with the team but I'm looking forward to getting on the ice and seeing if we can turn this poor start around together. Do some Redbull-like stunts and make them Halifax themes, like scoring a long distance shot off one boat to a net on top of another boat or buoy or something. Well I always kiss the last puck I shoot in the pre-game warmup before heading off the ice for good luck but that hasn't been bringing me much scoring success this season. Why can't I score more goals.

Oh, err. News to me I guess.

I got drafted 17th so overall I feel I should have gone a bit higher but I think it's a blessing in disguise to end up at the Americans, especially as it means I'll get to play alongside Red Lite for some more seasons. I'd like to become the main offensive focus of the Marlins, I feel like I produced well last season given my role as a 3rd or 4th option but this season I want to show I can merge my efficiency with increased volume. Haven't watched full episodes but I've seen a fair amount of clips etc from both shows, I think i probably prefer Parks and Rec. I've been getting back into racing games lately, I joined an F1 2020 discord league that hosts weekly races which is a lot of fun and also playing a lot of Dirt Rally. I've also been playing a bit of DnD with friends and making my first foray into league of legends. Probably some really good brownies, nice and gooey in the middle with a good crunch on the outside. I like to poke a few squares of chocolate into them just before they leave the oven too. More playing time for me of course

Review: A really great in depth look at how the 1st round played out, pointing out the players that stepped up and also sometimes giving info on how the teams season went and how they acquired some of the players. A key point I noticed was thay you also gave shoutouts to players on the losing teams too, a nice touch that people often forget about. A picture or two could liven up the article a bit or even some text colouring but other than that it's a really great article. 9.5/10

Review: A good article about the draft targets of Prague, or at least some indication of the routes that Prague could take with their picks, not sure I dig the purple text, it could have been used as more of an accent rather than the main body of the text but I guess some others might like it. I so think that each of the player paragraphs could easily use a line break in the middle and split the block of text in half to make it easier on the eyes. The other gripe I have is that some pictures of the players would be nice, using the members sig if they have one is a good shortcut to do this. 7.5/10

Kvothe is back bayby

While Kaladin Kvothe is by no means a slouch in this draft it's certainly true he's fallen off a bit in the past month due to some niggling injuries. This has dealt his draft stock a fairly severe blow, knocking him from around the 7th pick all the way down to the mid-teens. Kvothe himself has assuaged fears from the media and fans that these injuries are serious, he answer a few of the questions on everyone's lips at a recent interview after a Marlins training session? Is it true that these injuries have affected your play? No, absolutely not. It was just a few minor bumps and sprains, they kept me out of training for a few weeks as a precaution and made me do some rehab and ease myself back into full activity in training. It's the off-season so it made no sense to rush back and risk aggravating the injury any farther. I know that some GMs might be put off and see this is a potential red flag but I assure you and them that I am at fll fitness and ready to start putting in the work that I have been throughout this past season? Have you received much interest from GMs? I'd say I've had more than a few callers come up and ask for a pre-draft interview. I wouldn't want to leak anything but rest assured that Kvothe won't be left without a team to go to next season. Speaking of next season, are you planning to stay with the Marlins for another year or go straight up to the big league? I think I'll probably end up staying in San Diego for another year, it just makes sense to get as much time to hone my skills and develop so I can come straight into the VHL and be ready to make an instant impact for whoever is lucky enough to snag me come draft night? Who do you think will go number 1? Well it's gotta be Red Lite, he's such a hard worker and I'm so glad to see his effort start to pay off as people are giving him the attention and respect a player fo his calibre deserves. The natural talent he's got is unrivaled in anyone else this draft class I think. So yeah, I think Red Lite is going claim the distinction of the first overall pick but there's a lot of Marlins up there in the first rounds and you can't go wrong in picking any of them. Is there any teams that you'd like to go to? I can't say I have a particular favourite, I guess if i had to pick one then of course London would be the first choice as they're my home town team and bringing the first UK team up to relevance in the VHL would be a great accomplishment and really help spread the popularity of hockey in the UK. Not to mention the boost it would bring the team's attendance to have a home grown young talent on the roster. Where do you think you will go? I'd guess around the 10-15 mark, I'd be surprised to go higher and shocked if i dropped lower although there are a lot of good forwards in the draft and sheer numbers at a position can mean many people dropping more than expected as we say in the VHLM dispersal draft last season. I saw a mock draft that put me down AT 28th! I know reports of my injury was overblown but come on! 28th! I gotta say I did have a few choice words at my PC when I read that article. Any last words for the fans? Thank you for supporting me and the Marlins through this incredible season, and whether I'm a Marlin next year or whatever team calls my name I hope you'll continue to cheer me on wherever I land.

The Markins were expected to be one of the premier teams this season and they’ve definitely proved that they deserve that title. 3rd overall in the division and they’ve gone from strength to strength with a deadly combination of great player development and astute moves in the trade market to fill in gaps in their depth. While Kvothe hasn’t had the breakout season that many expected he’s been a good contributor for the 2nd line racking up a respectable stock of points fuelled by his razor sharp shooting. Of course after the playoffs the draft will loom quickly and Kvothe currently projects to be well within the first round and should be high up the list for teams that are looking for a forward to star in a shooting role. Though his development hasn’t been as top tier as in previous weeks Kvothe has told teams that he is just nursing a niggling injury and will be back to full form in the coming weeks. His ideal situation would be one with heavy minutes available where he can be given a good role in the offence. Although he will likely be seeing himself play another season for the Marlins next year as he’s still a very raw prospect. (I will be back to max earning in the new year)
