"A wise and frugal Government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government, and this is necessary to close the circlue of our felicities."

Do you concur with this thesis and do you believe the implementation of its key elements and morals is of an effective nature?

So with the Super Cup now we have a 3 season rotation.  1 Season for the World Cup, 1 for the Super Cup, and then 1 season for the whole don't do either thing.  In the past we have done something that many around the league seem to like (mostly for ego) but it wasn't ever controlled and it was done randomly.  I think the 3rd off-season could be used for doing the Top 25 list that we have done before.  Everyone in the VHL has 24 hours to vote for who they think is the #1 in the league at the time and vote for anyone they think should be added to the list for the following vote.

The only three issues we had with it were
    1) when we do this list its done randomly with no reason other than the fact that someone feels like doing it.
    2) there was never any good set of consistent rules for how long to keep the poll open and etc
    3) there wasn't ever like a quick description of what the vote was actually meant to be

Now I was thinking we could either do it publically starting around the trade deadline of every 3rd season or make it strictly a BOG thing and have them make their list of top 25 ahead of time and starting at the deadline of every 3rd season they release the list backwards from 25 down to 1.

We could even take this further and ignore the player aspect and make it the top 25 most influential people of the VHL and add it to the HOF section and see how the list changes every 3 seasons.  Anyway just thinking of things we could add that wouldn't involve any additional effort by the commishes or simmers and give the league something to do in the quieter off-season.

As it stands today Vasteras is a young team with no player above 463 tpe. With a lack luster season 35 for the VHL in revenues the league hopes that a rebuilding team like Vasteras can turn it around quick and start bringing in the profits like they once did. They will need the continued development of their top prospects and young stars. Vasteras is really lacking a good veteran to guide it's young core unfortunately that would involve sacrificing a season 37 1st round pick and that simply is not worth it based on where the Eagles currently sit. They're going to need a bit of luck in free agency going forward. Either this off season or next getting that 600+ tpe player will be vital to contend for a championship. Right now they will look to players such as Janssen, Bagelface and Schwarz to lead the way...

Vasteras Selects 3 Defensemen, 1 Forward in Draft

Triton Jackson was one of the three defenders selected by Vasteras in the S36 draft.

VASTERAS, Sweden - If you ask them, the Vasteras Iron Eagles organization would like you to believe that they made out like bandits in the recent S36 VHL Entry draft. Whether or not this is true, the Iron Eagles did at least have an average to above-average draft. With their four picks, the Iron Eagles selected blue-liners Sami Kravinen, Triton Jackson, Hanz Backenbauer, and left-winger Luke Riggs. The following is a breakdown on each player.

SAMI KRAVINEN - 7th overall - Brampton Blades

Kravinen playing for the Brampton Blades in S35

With their first pick of the draft, Vasteras selected Finnish defender Sami Kravinen; as a fun bit of trivia, Kravinen was born in Turku, the same town that now houses the VHLM Turku Outlaws franchise. Despite the relation to Turku, Kravinen played for the Vasteras Baby Eagles and Brampton Blades in S35, although his stay in Vasteras was very short (three games with only one point). Kravinen spent the next 57 games with the Brampton Blades, where he scored 31 points (5G 25A). While those numbers may not look very impressive on the surface, Kravinen spent most of the season on the 3rd pairing with the lesser skilled Hanz Backenbauer, who was coincidentally also drafted by Vasteras in the past draft. Although a bit raw at this current point in time, Kravinen shows good potential as a talented two-way defender who has a tendency to successfully quarterback a power-play. With the current blue-line on Vasteras signed for at least the next two seasons, don't expect Kravinen to be thrown to the wolves; look to possibly see Kravinen play his rookie season in S37 on the second pairing with a veteran defenseman such as Till Lindemann or Blake Knight, while also receiving some special teams minutes.

TRITON JACKSON - 11th overall - Bratislava Watchmen

Triton Jackson may have a higher ceiling than Kravinen, but is a slightly riskier pick

Only four picks after selecting Kravinen and with the first pick of the second round, the Iron Eagles couldn't get to the podium fast enough to announce their selection of American defenseman Triton Jackson. Originally projected to be a mid-first round pick, Jackson slipped a bit in the draft due to questions surrounding his work ethic towards the end of the regular season and off-season. However, the talent was obvious, and Vasteras had no complaints selecting the enigmatic defender. Adding to a list of Iron Eagles who have played for the VHLM's Bratislava Watchmen, Jackson notched 54 points (13G 41A) in 69 games while playing on the top defensive pairing with Cologne prospect Lauris Prikulis. Playing alongside the more experienced Prikulis allowed Jackson to showcase his offensive flair, which is the most valuable asset to his game. Despite being selected after Kravinen, it wouldn't be crazy to believe that Jackson has more potential than the Finn. Jackson polarizes with Kravinen in that Jackson is a definite boom/bust pick, while Kravinen is a steady, albeit slightly less-talented pick. If he reaches his potential, Jackson could be a future first pairing defender on the Iron Eagles some day.

HANZ BACKENBAUER - 21st overall - Brampton Blades

Backenbauer is known for his physicality more than his offense

Continuing the trend of selecting players whose VHLM team names start with "Bra", Vasteras selected stay-at-home defenseman Hanz Backenbauer of the Brampton Blades with the first pick of the third round. Hanz outscored his brother Franz by 11 points (7G 20A), although neither is renowned for their offense. Hanz is definitely in the mold of a defensive defenseman, with 134 hits in S35, second on the team to Bodie Broadus in hits by a defender. Despite being a project pick, Backenbauer has some potential to be a nasty, crease-clearing defenseman who plays on the 3rd line and penalty kill.

LUKE RIGGS - 27th overall - Oslo Storm

Riggs has more than a few obstacles to overcome if he wants to reach the VHL some day

With their last pick of the draft, the Iron Eagles took a flyer on Oslo Storm forward Luke Riggs. Riggs plays exclusively on the left wing, which may be one of the reasons Vasteras selected him, since they are very shallow in the prospect pool at that position. That being said, Riggs doesn't exactly ooze potential either. Riggs didn't really provide any help for the offensively challenged Storm last season, as he only managed to score 19 points on a team that only beat the league-worst Turku Outlaws in terms of offensive production. Riggs may not have had the most ideal conditions to score by centering the third line, but excuses can only get you so far in the VHL and VHLM.

It was a rough decision to pick our captains this year, as we have many great players and personalities on this team. But, I had to make a choice so here it goes.

C- Alexander Valiq: As our first overall pick, the oldest of the Valiq brothers will be looked upon not only to lead our team to the Super Cup Finals, but to also lead our team on the ice.
A- Zack Sound: A great guy on the boards and in the locker room, Greg is an easy selection to don a letter on his chest for the Reynaud Raid.
A- Willem Jannsen: Lightning is a very well respected member on the boards and it is an honor to have him wear the A proudly for the Raid.

Like I said rough pick with all the guys we have on the team. Congrats to Kora, Greg, and Lightning. Now lead us to victory boys

    Iron Eagles Prospects and Future

    Top Prospects

1 - Magnus Hertzberg - This young forward has been overlooked by many but has started to show the potential that the Iron Eagles saw in him when they drafted him last draft.  The Vasteras Iron Eagles likely don't have any future stars in their farm system, but the closest to one is definitely this guy.  Hertzberg has 42 points and 128 hits this season and is showing the skills that some people see in him.

2 - Rhys Heyward-Jones - This man has all the talent to be a solid depth player down the road, but questions about his drive have hurt the general outlook towards him.  The Gladiators forward has had a solid producing year with 61 points in 66 games but some are disappointed in his numbers given the talent of his team.  At the end of the day, Heyward-Jones probably won't become anything more than a career minor leaguer, but the Iron Eagles still hold out hope that this pick works out and he becomes a solid second line forward.

3 - Jaden Button - Like Heyward-Jones, a lot of people see the talent but not the work-ethic when it comes to this player.  The right winger has had a solid season for a sophomore but has failed to truly stand-out.  Unless he really picks up his game, don't expect Button to be a part of the Iron Eagles franchise for much longer.  Unless his offensive skills translate over into significant production or better work-ethic, Button will soon find his way onto the free agent market.

    Future Outlook:

The Vasteras Iron Eagles don't have a lot of talent in the farm system, but that is because all of their young talent is already on the main club.  These young talents are in charge of erasing the infamous history of the Iron Eagles that pales in comparison to every other team that has been here since the Inaugural Season.  With the future belonging in the hands of Willem Janssen, Leon Leitner and Eggly Bagelface, the Iron Eagles have something to be excited for going forward.

In addition, with another first rounder in the next two drafts (one of which will definitely be a lottery pick), Vasteras will be looking to add onto that core.  Expect the teams GM, Thomas Corcoran, to start looking at trades to build around the core in the near future.

    Cup Prediction: Season 40
