  1. (Cutting off some of your post to keep the quote short.) Thanks for the perspective! I've only ever known the 11 team VHLM so I can't really speak how it used to be I guess the one thing I would say is I think the hope is that the M develops to the point at which the playoff race is super exciting again, while still being inclusive to more teams. I think right now its partially because of how the M gets and loses its players so it's really sink or swim year in/year out, but I think the new cap of 250 should serve to fix that, by making drafts have more ramification for a long term, thus (hopefully) improving the competitive nature of the league by making its competition more steady and less variable year to year because good teams losing all their pieces in one go (Look at the Ottawa championship squad we had in 67, versus the one from 68). I think if that goes to plan, then hopefully the competitive increase across the board will make 8 teams more viable (and more similar to the proportion where 6/8 made it; obviously that proportion worked, you said it yourself, but I think it's only an issue right now due to the relatively recent expansion)
  2. Personally I don't see why it helps to change it to a 6 team playoff? Due to the manner in which playoffs are simmed it doesn't make it functionally any more difficult to add the extra series. And if the first seed wins so often, so what? There's a reason they did well in regular season, but they should still have to play through. Personally, more games are always fun, and I don't feel that this would help anything. Furthermore, I dislike the idea that only 6 of 11 teams make playoffs. Regardless of how competitive the games are. I don't feel that borderline half the teams should sit out. They should have a chance too, and more importantly, keep the players and GMs engaged in the season. If the VHLM is about player engagement, why would we cut down on the amount of games occurring? Especially when you consider teams that were on poor regular season teams are likely (though not guaranteed) to have less positive interaction over the course of the season due to less active players and poor performance in general. So why not let them participate in playoffs? Look back to NCAA when UMBC upset Virginia. Nobody thought it could happen but when it did it was one of the greatest sporting upsets of all time. If anything that creates a great potential for something crazy to happen. Regardless of my personal opinion on the change, thanks for making it I think the discussion is really good to have, and it's a position that should be heard. I'm just not quite sure I understand or agree with the perceived benefit.
  3. Second claim. 2/3
  4. Hey, welcome to the VHL! Playoffs are going on right now, so teams can't pick you up, but it's a great time to familiarize yourself with the site and start earning some TPE to boost you up in the draft ranks! The draft should be in a week or two, let me know if you have any question or anyone else really.
  5. I think it's a really small chance of that exact scenario occurring though tbf. It would require A) no 1st round pick (very possible) and B) the GM recreating at that exact time. Maybe they just have to delay? Alternatively, though this may be too complex, perhaps allow a GM who was unable to claim their player in the past to claim them in free agency?
  6. I know this is a kinda out there situation, but what if a new GM gets a team with no first round pick as their player goes in the draft? It's not their fault the previous GM traded away all the picks.
  7. GG Asia congrats on the medal
  8. I actually really like this idea. I feel like Press Conferences are so weirdly implemented right now, and I think it would be really cool if there was a weekly presser for all players to do that is somewhat generic.
  9. GG Europe, good luck in the finals!
  10. 10/20-10/27 Answer 6 questions to claim 2 TPE 1) The season has come and gone, and we finished in 3rd place in the standings. Are you pleased with that? 2) How does our team’s finish compare to your predictions/expectations at the beginning of the season? 3) How does your personal performance compare to how you thought you would do at the beginning of the season? 4) Our team’s top performer from a point’s perspective is Ryo Yamazuki II. How much of an impact does he have for this team? 5) On the other end, our goaltender Virgil Ligriv has, with this season, achieved the franchise record in career wins (according to the records on the portal). Anything you’d like to say to our man in the back? 6) Speaking of franchise records, Ryo Yamazuki II has also picked up the franchise record for career points! Congrats to him; the question is, will that be broken any time soon? 7) Our first matchup is against Halifax. In our seven games, we beat them 4 to 3. Do you think that will be the outcome of the playoff series? 8) In fact, over all seven games, the visiting team won every time. Does home ice matter to you, or is it not important? 9) If we make it to the next round, which team between Las Vegas and San Diego would you prefer to face? They are the top two leaders in goals scored during the regular season. 10) Regardless of our playoff performance, thank you all for a great season! Do you have any favorite memories of the regular season?
  11. The Music of the VHL By A. Simon-Cowell-Type Part 6 Welcome back to another edition of The Music of the VHL! We are returning now to our regularly scheduled content, and this week, we will be taking a look at the number one team from the North American Conference! Of course, I am talking about one of the most iconic music cities in the world, Seattle! Seattle Bears @Banackock Machine Gun, Jimi Hendrix Seattle is certainly going to be under fire this postseason. Despite enjoying a sizable lead at the end of the regular season within their conference, if they want to win the cup they are going to have to beat one European team; and 3 of the 4 playoff teams from Europe finished with a record better than the North American leaders. Regardless, a strong showing from the youthful Seattle core could prove dangerous, and if their lack of experience doesn’t betray them, look to this Seattle team for the city’s first cup since S59. For this reason, we have gone with one bright young flame whose light was extinguished far too early - Jimi Hendrix died at just 27 years of age. For our song, we could have really picked any of his tunes to represent the youthful Seattle spirit the Bears have captured, but we have decided to go with the song Machine Gun, specifically from the live album, Machine Gun: Live at The Fillmore East 12/31/1969, whose pulsing, searing guitar licks embody Hendrix’s style. Sit back and enjoy the show that Hendrix and the Bears can put on. Thanks for reading, and stay tuned next week for more coverage!
  12. First claim, 1/3
  13. Another chance! A lifeline
  14. Yeah I guess and even if you have "backup simmers" A) that gets complicated, and B) almost anyone who would ever be well-known enough to sim has a player in the VHL and some self interest probably. Oh well. Thanks for all the work you do
  15. Why is the policy not to have the other simmer sim if there is a potential conflict of interest? Not that I would really care, I tend to trust people, but it seems like common sense
  16. Review: I think that this could be improved on some (for one a good photo editor helps a lot, I hope you found something!) The big thing for me is how strange the words are. They basically cover everything and take away from the content of the graphic. I think if you centered those properly, and made the color scheme a little more defined it would help a lot!
  17. Review: I love the color scheme, though I think it could maybe be tightened up a bit on the render. I'm not sure how I feel about the logo being offset? additionally with the words kinda stranded in the middle. It feels like this graphic maybe just needs a little more happening, it looks a little bare. Good work though!
  18. Review: I like the layout of everything, and the text of the name is kinda a cool idea. I do think the quality of the right side could be boosted a bit. Maybe a nicer font, or a larger text for the stats section would improve it. Good work!
  19. Review: I really like how the Americans logo sits in the background, and I think the render is good, but I feel like the placement of everything is a little off. Maybe its the words not being directly in line with the logo.
  20. Review: Really similar to your other one, and once again really good work. The colors feel a lot more in tune here, with the jersey being pretty much black only. I love the font of the text, though its maybe slightly hard to read (less so in this one than in the other).
  21. Review: I think the background looks really cool, and the render sits within the graphic really nicely. I do think the color choice is a little odd with the bruins jersey, but overall really great
  22. Review: This is an absolutely gorgeous graphic! I really love the consistent color scheme, and I like how the render is just a little grainy, making it feel like a vintage player card or something.
  23. Review: Love the color scheme and the text of the name; I do feel like the team text is a little hard to read though. Also, the number 9 on the sleeve could use a little bit of work, it looks fairly fake. Good work though!
  24. Ah I wish you guys had choked but congrats on the record
  25. rough way to close out a season
