S70 Draft Profiles - Part 4
Patrik Tallinder replied to Patrik Tallinder's topic in VHL.com Articles
I definitely like the point leaders idea, I’ll try to include that next week. Maybe point leaders for forwards, defensemen, and save% for goalies? I also looked for any significant trades with S70 players this week, but couldn’t find any. I think Lahtinens was the day before the cutoff. Also, I checked to see if anyone applied for the LV GM position, but there wasn’t anyone. I feel like people getting jobs would be a good thing to add when it happens. For the recruitment trends, do you mean where the new recruits are coming from? Like this week I’ve seen a ton from YouTube if that what you mean. I really appreciate the feedback! -
Hello everyone! I'd like to start off this article by asking you all how I can improve this series. I've been trying to think of ways to better it, and I would really appreciate some input from other people for some new ideas. I've made some subtle changes to this one, so hopefully they help. Anyways, on to this week's rankings: Edwin THE Encarnacion - Mikko Lahtinen - Odin Omdahl - Jacques Lafontaine - Damien Wolfe - Lewis Dawson New Jimothy Frost 1 Gabriel Gutzwiler 1 Iangenere Risteneen 1 Dick Cheezy 1 Not much moving around this week, besides Lewis Dawson bursting onto the scene after two extremely high TPE earning weeks to kick off his VHL career. In a new segment, let's look at a few important things that happened this week concerning S70 draft eligibles: - Lewis Dawson & Damien Wolfe each hit 100 TPE - Teddy Smith & Lewis Dawson earned the most TPE among S70 players, tied with 24 apiece. - Zepheter recruited 3 players. If I missed anything else important, just tell me and I'll add it in! Now, we move on to our profiles of this week: Shawn Glade Jr - D - 185 TPE Despite being one of the top players of the S70 class, Shawn Glade Jr does not appear in my rankings because he is a GM player, which if I'm not mistaken, means that he will go straight to the team he manages rather than going through the draft. Amassing 20+ TPE in each of the last 3 weeks, Glade is consistently and quickly improving as a player. He is an incredibly balanced player who will contribute all over the ice, each and every night. On top of his league leading 47 shots blocked through 19 games this year, he also sits in the top 10 in assists league-wide as well. Expect him to be a star in the VHL. Iangenere Risteneen - LW - 66 TPE Our second member of the Lynx, Risteneen is a versatile offensive threat. Although his skating may be a bit behind the rest of his game, he more than makes up for it with his killer instincts in the offensive zone. He has a shot that goalies must respect, and vision that makes it extremely hard to defend him, or predict his next move. Ian has earned 28 TPE in his last 2 weeks, proving that he will be a prospect to watch for the future. I see a lot of raw talent, and I think his offensive numbers will increase exponentially as the season progresses. Mikko Lahtinen - C - 198 TPE Lahtinen, part of the unanimous top 2 through the early portion of the season so far, has been nothing short of fantastic in his draft year so far. A trade on November 17th brought Lahtinen to the nearly unstoppable Saskatoon Wild, and he has been a huge part of their success since then. The lethal goal scoring center has 15 goals and 32 points in just 19 games. With his impressive offensive instincts come strong defensive abilities as well. He boasts a mind boggling 68% faceoff percentage, and plays an overall great game on both ends of the ice.

Review: Great work. My favourite part is easily the lighting, as it works so well with the dark background, and the sharpness really makes it stand out. The font is also really nice, and it's placed perfectly on the graphic.

Gabriel and Leon, Reuinted [1/2]

Review: I'm really happy to see the brothers united. It's nice to see how they've helped each other out on the ice, and contributed for Halifax. I like how you included some love from back home there at the end, and showed how influential they are in Switzerland. I hope to see them united once again in the VHL! -
Review: Amazing work man. The whole graphic works together so well, and all of its features fit perfectly with the concept. The flag is noticeable, but not distracting from the player, and the font looks really cool, with the N and the F connecting. There's also some scenery to his left, which, once again isn't distracting, yet provides some subtle visual appeal.

Review: This is so clean. I like the effect of the logo, and the whole light blue colour scheme. The font fits well, and it's just overall really visually appealing. Really nothing bad to say about it.

Review: Nice. I really liked the formatting, and that picture is some quality content. The whole article was funny, and I can appreciate that, as a lot of articles are pretty rich in content, but lack in voice. Unique, fun article. Good job!

Cats and Kings: The top two [1/2]

Review: There's a lot of things to like here. I like the analysis of each position, but what really stood out to me was the inclusion of the games they've played against each other. It's cool that you went deeper into the games than just their score, and even went the extra mile to find out how many more matchups they have left. I appreciate the work you put into this! -
Derek Eriksson - Junior Review [2/2]

Review: This was really well done. Adversity, and overcoming it, are important factors in someone's backstory, and I think it was executed well. It's formatted nicely, and I can never be mad at the inclusion of Gritty at the end. I also enjoyed how your story is related to your cousin's, it's a cool element to have in both of your backstories. Great work! -
Kyle Andersen - Junior Review [2/2]

Review: Great backstory! I like the story of raw talent coming through, even without much experience. I would've maybe added a picture, or a couple of subtitles to make it look a bit more appealing. Overall, good work, and wish you the best this year in the VHLM! -

Welcome back to the third installment of S70 Draft Profiles! I figured that after awhile, the series would get stale, so this week I tried to switch it up a bit. Before I delve further into this, here are this week's rankings: Edwin THE Encarnacion - Mikko Lahtinen - Odin Omdahl - Jacques Lafontaine - Damien Wolfe 1 Jimothy Frost 1 Gabriel Gutzwiler - Iangenere Risteneen New Dick Cheezy 1 Aleksandr Aleksandrov 2 Now, you may be wondering what the DC Dragons have to do with a group of prospects that haven't even been drafted. But the thing is, the Dragons aren't the topic of discussion today. Today, we put the spotlight on another DC, Dick Cheezy, also known on the forum as @goldenglutes. Ask, and you shall receive. I asked a few questions to goldenglutes to make a more in-depth prospect review than my normal 3 brief profiles every week. Dick Cheezy - C - 62 TPE Dick has been a steady earner of TPE so far, and can be counted on for around 8 per week. His ceiling may not be sky high, as he has told me "[He thinks he'd] like to eventually become a contributing part of a VHL team, but [he] definitely [doesn't] aspire to be a first liner or anything." But what gives me confidence about him, is that his floor is pretty high, given his activity in the Hounds LR, and he "only joined this league to be a part of the community." This means that while he may not become a superstar, it is likely that he will stick around on the site, and become a contributor for whoever he plays for. Also, his activity on the LR makes for a good character to have on your team. Dick's build is one based around reliability. He is great defensively, and is able to make quick transition passes to help the team get up the ice as efficiently as possible. He is also smooth on his skates, always providing his teammates with an outlet option, or being able to create room for himself with the puck in both ends of the ice. His faceoff ability is a nice bonus too. The 16 year old has started his rookie VHLM season off with 2 goals, and 3 points in 10 games. What's more impressive is that he has 28 shots, so if his shooting percentage goes up even a bit, expect to see a nice boost in those numbers sooner rather than later. This has also been done getting second line minutes with the Hounds, so he has been contributing well in limited ice time. I asked goldenglutes how Dick's VHL career came to be, and he had this to say: "For the first 15 years of his life, Dick Cheezy was just a regular guy, going about his day like any regular guy would. However, one fateful day in November, his friend Aleksandra Olsen told him to try out this hockey thing. Dick obliged, but only on the condition that he get drafted to the same team as Aleksandra so as to not feel lonely. When it actually happened, Dick was in disbelief, and he was forced to strap on some skates and play as the second line center for Mississauga. It was all a very traumatic experience for him, and sometimes he wishes he could go back and be a regular guy again." A truly heartbraking story. Despite his past traumas, he now has aspirations to win a cup this year with the Hounds. In my entirely unbiased opinion, I believe that it is almost inevitable that he achieve this. A shoutout from both myself and goldenglutes goes out to @GlowyGoat, for managing to bring a new, exciting member to the league. I'd also like to shoutout goldenglutes himself, for taking the time to answer my questions. Tune in next week for more prospect profiles!

Mississauga Hounds Press Conference
Patrik Tallinder replied to Gustav's topic in Team Press Conferences
1. I’m not too worried, we started slow last year too. It’s all about our new players staying consistent in earning TPE and improving as a team. 2. I’m feeling good about it, hoping to maintain it throughout the season. 3. Probably Rice or Frost. Rice because he’s our new captain and has the most TPE, so it’ll be cool to see him tear it up this year. Frost because he’s a new and active member, and also cause I really like his player's backstory. 4. Mostly Saskatoon and Mexico City, Saskatoon has been bolstering their roster lately when it was already great, and Mexico City is just tearing it up rn. 5. I’d say defensive consistency. Can’t say too much about that though, cause I’m not really built for defense much myself. 6. I think it’s gotta be Rice. He’s a player who excels in every aspect of the game, so I’d expect his offensive and defensive numbers to be looking really good by the end of the season. -

Review: Cool story! I especially liked the quotes from the kid, his parents, and Eagles himself at the end. Always fun to read about a feel-good story, and this one was executed very well.

Review: Fun article! I'm from the east coast too, so it was cool to see that you grew up here! Also cool to see that you took up ball hockey, one of my favourite parts about the sport is how many forms it can take and still be fun (roller, street, ball, ice). As far as the article goes, it was formatted very well, and the gifs were a nice touch as well. Nothing bad to say about it. Good luck in Calgary!

Review: This was a such a nice concept. The outline in the wall is very well done, and the text is really clean. The red theme is nice, and it just all works together coherently. Great work, much better than I could do!
