  3. Last night in Moscow, the Menace held on to win over the visiting Chicago Phoenix 4-3 The win for Moscow makes their record 38-23-9 and in third place in the European Conference. The loss for Chicago was their 48th in what has been a difficult season for the expansion franchise. Moscow got out early, with a Lucas Brandt goal at 2:06 of the 1st, and his 34th of the season, assisted by Oscar Lagesson and Henrik Zoiderberg. Brandt waisted no time with scoring #35, 5 minutes later, again set up by Lagesson and Zoiderberg at 7:44 for a 2-0 Moscow lead. Adam Syreck banged home his 32nd from Khalabib Stiopic and Squirrely Dan to get Chicago on the board. 10 seconds later, Lucas Brandt (36) completed his 1st period hat trick set up again by Lagesson and Alex Letang to give Moscow the 3-1 lead after 1 period. Moscow continued to pull away early in the 2nd period when Henrik Zoiderberg tipped in a shot by Remy Moreau for his 35th goal of the season. Also assisting on Zoiderbergs goal was once again Oskar Laggesson his 4th assist of the night. Adam Syreck struck back 3 minutes later with his 33rd and Frans Eller scored a minute later, his 16th, from Stiopic to cut into the lead and make the score 4-3. That would be all the scoring in this one. Thorvald Gunnarsson stopped 19 of 22 shots for the win. After the game, Menace extended Vin Calia's contract for 2 seasons at 3million per.

  6. Moscow had no problem handling D.C. on Wednesday night knocking them off in Russia 4-1. Lucas Brandt took home 1st star honors in the game after recording a three point night in the game. The win put the Menace in 5th place in the VHL standings with a 27-16-3 record. In the first period, the Menace got an early goal from Ryo Yamazuki II, his 20th of the season, assisted by Vin Calia and Dean Clarke. Remy Moreau woke up the crowd in the period when he dropped the gloves and got the better of Mikko Aaltonen. All the momentum was with Moscow from that point on. The 2nd period was all Moscow. Lucas Brandt scored his 25th of the season, assisted by Alex Letang and Oskar Lagesson giving Moscow the 2-0 lead. Henrik Zoiderberg knocked home a rebound on a Brandt shot to put Moscow ahead by three. Zoiderberg put the game out of reach with his 25thth, once again from Lucas Brandt. D.C. finally got on the board in the 3rd period, when Raleigh Ritchie on the power play banged home his 11th from Mikko Aaltonen and Charles Drumm to make the score 4-1. Game winning goalie was Raymond Bernard who stopped 26 of the 27 shots he faced.
  7. 1)We’re in, for sure. 2)I think we can contend. We’ve been hot of late. 3)No. very comfortable with what we have as we continue to grow. 4)If there’s anything we lack, it’s a goal scorer but we have a few including myself that need to step up. 5) For me it’s Davos . They didn’t believe and me and traded me and I’m grateful for that now because I’m here in Moscow and I’m happy. 6) Pumped up and can’t wait to draft Lafreiniere

  9. As a center in my second season at the VHL level, I'm built towards a skilled offensive player that everyone wants to be. Think Dylan Larkin, or Bo Horvat type. I obviously have a lot of development left to get to that level but with the hard work that I'm used to putting in, that level isn't far away. If I was to start over and recreate my player there are a few changes, as a forward, that I would definitely consider. A power forward type interests me. Think old school player such as Rick Tocchett. Tocchett was a scoring forward that would drop his gloves for a fight every night if needed. He was feared in the league in the 1980's , especially in his prime when he played with the Philadelphia Flyers. My player would be built towards scoring, strength, checking and a few more points then normal towards fighting. A player currently in out league whom fits this build but without the fighting is Ray Shields, a center for the Malmo Nighthawks who I played alongside with for the Yukon Rush in the VHLM. Another build, that really intrigues me is as All Star Goalie. Goalie without a doubt is the most important player on the ice and in my opinion, the key to a winning team. To be Patrick Roy, Henrik Lundqvist or the next Marin Brodeur is exciting. There are three common goaltending styles called butterfly hybrid, athletic butterfly and a blocking style goaltender. The butterfly hybrid is a mix between a stand-up and a butterfly type. It's a very patient style that normally waits for the shooter to make the first move and rarely gets caught out of position. This is how All time great Patrick Roy and current goalie Carey Price play. The athletic butterfly goaltenders are the big athletic goalies with a good glove hand that try to catch as many pucks as possible to keep possession. You must be very acrobatic and a hard worker to play this style. This style was played by Ryan Miller and current goalie Sergei Bobrovsky. Last there's the blocking style. This goalie uses their body to block the puck as much as possible and are always in the butterfly position for every save. This style doesn't take as much athletism , it takes size. Corey Crawford, Antti Niemi are blocking style goaltenders. The goalie build that interests me and that I would build my player around would be the Athletic butterfly type goalie. My player would be big, strong, quick with great stick work, where I can push the puck outlet off a save and set up odd man rushes. The last build that I would like to someday consider, would be, the defensive goon or what is sometimes also called the policeman on the ice. The player feared on the ice that comes to the defense of the teams star player when they take a nasty hit from an opponent. I do want to have some skill of course, rated high defensively and used as the crease clearing defenseman on my team. This build will take plenty of points towards my players strength, my players checking, defense and of course my players fighting skills. I would prefer to have size as this type of player, so I will be big, strong and intimidating.
  10. Love it and it speaks the truth. Its a good read, explaining to us who is making an impact in Moscow and their reasons for the hot streak. Adding some quotes and statistic to back up his points. Only problem with this story is he forgot to mention a key youngster for the Menace, Vin Calia.
  11. Pretty good read from the start. Found one sentence that I would have worded differently. (He was pretty great in practice with us) It was doesn't sound right to me. I might have said (He was great with us in practice or He was pretty good with us in practice. Maybe I'm nit picking a bit, but it sounds a bit funny. Other then that, it was pretty interesting. He gave you the feel of a young player trying to adjust to a mentor and highly respected vet being dealt. I liked it. 7.5/10
  12. In what started out as a well played hockey game, ended in what looked like a bar room brawl as the Menace squeezed by the Legion 2-0 in Toronto last night in a game that include 80 minutes of penalty time. In the first period, Moscow got on the board while on the power play on a goal by Lucas Brandt, his 15th , set up by Vladimir Pavlov and Dean Clarke at 14:51. In the 2nd period the Menace cushioned their lead, once again on a power play goal, this time from Ryo Yamazuki II ,his 13th of the season, assisted by Nate Telker and Henrik Zoiderberg at 15:13. Late in the third period, Dean Clarke took a nasty high stick from Toronto's C2. Nate Telker retaliated with a cross check on Tor C2 and then the gloves were off. Moscow's Vin Calia squared off against Gabriel Gutzwiler in what was a heavy weight match. Moscow Ryo Yamazuki II threw hands with Toronto D2 after Toronto D2 jumped in as Calia pummeled Gutzwiler. Vladamir Pavlov squared off against Tor LW2 and Dean Clarke received a boarding penalty as well. A few players can possibly face suspension in the ugly scene that unfortunately took all the attention when it should have been on the terrific performance by Menace goaltender Raymond Bernard who stopped all 42 shots he faced for the shutout. Lets hope the Menace aren't to banged up for their game tonight against the Phoenix in Chicago. Written by Scoop Calia.

  14. This was a great read that I found very interesting. I was actually disappointed that you only used 333 words because the work you put into it should have been worth more TPE. The uniforms and the logs look great and had to take time to put together. I hope when we expand again you are taken under consideration. 9/10
  15. This article proves the point that you can write an article about just about anything. Its well written and gets to his points well even if its not about hockey. And yes he proves a couple of points. Now lets see if he can write a 600 word media spot about this subject. 8/10
  16. Last night in Moscow, The Menace squeezed by the Prague Phantoms in what was another low scoring event, 2-1. The win brought Moscow back to .500 with a 6-6-1 record. Moscow continues to struggle scoring goals on the young season but Coach Victor isn't alarmed yet. "We have a young team with lots of talent. Things will take time but I'm confident in these guys" said Victor. Prague struck first with a 1st period goal from Ben McGirr his 3rd on the season, assisted by Wolf Stansson Jr. and Cody Smith. In the second period, Moscow drew even with a Power play goal from Lucas Brandt his 2nd of the season, assisted by Alex Letang and Dean Clarke. In the 3rd Dean Clarke got the game winner, his 2nd and also on the power play, set up by Vladimir Palov and goaltender Raymond Bernard. Bernard also stopped 31 of the 32 shots he faced to pick up the win. Moscow will be back on the ice tonight as they faceoff against the expansion Los Angeles Stars in Hollywood. The Stars are 6-6-2 on the season and one point ahead of Moscow.

  18. Vin Calia is a young center for the Moscow Menace who just completed his first year in the VHL. He has good size at 6'2 and 219lbs. He was drafted in S71 by HC Davos with the 16th overall pick. He was traded to Moscow right before the start of the S72 season for a pair of draft picks. Calia's talent is raw and it showed in his first season with the Menace. He managed 9 goals and 15 assists for 24 points in his rookie season along with 77 penalty minutes. Calia shows sky high scoring ability as his game grows. His defensive game has really improved making him a 2-way forward which excites Menace Management. He's a great skater and handles the puck well making crisp no look passes. He needs to continue to improve on taking his faceoffs. He also needs to get stronger to improve his checking and handling hits by opponents. Going into S73 Calia is expected to improve and word out of Menace camp, his projections should be about double to what he did in S72. So expect something like 18 goals and 45 assists. I think Menace management would be happy with that.
  19. Nice interesting interview. I saw a couple of issues with grammar but nothing that would confuse the reader. Also issues with the borders as some of the sentences to the far right were cut off. Overall all a nice read. Good Luck in London. 7/10
  20. Great read. I found it interesting from the start. There was enough detail in the article that you could actually picture it happening. The one issue I had with the article was each sentence seem to have been cut off on the right side most likely an issue with the borders. Otherwise, great work and good luck in the VHL. P.S. Great Name-Dakota Lamb. 8/10
