I'm not going to lie, you don't strike me as someone who's in this league for the hockey/sims aspect. So I don't really think that your preferences about what you'd want to see on Instagram is our target demographic. Some people are here for the community and the people and that's fine. But you have to recognize that with your known indifference for your player(s) in the past, you're really not the type of person we'd want to make ads for.

So you're gonna come out of inactivity and become the zoomer king of VHL reels/shorts/tiktok right....?? (pls do I think the content would be hilarious)

The VHLM is quiet and Recruitment is so different right now
Spartan replied to jacobcarson877's topic in Media Spots
Right, this point is different than your original post of "people care more about message delivery than the message." If in terms of message delivery, you mean bringing up valid concerns and offering solutions is better than just saying people's current efforts are worthless, then sure - I agree. Some of y'all really need to not just pull overused buzz words and phrases without understanding their definitions and use cases. I agree that these more brazen posts end up getting more interactions by default due to the community feasting on drama. But there are plenty of posts that raise issues that also generate worthwhile discussion without putting others down (Gus is a good example, Sam has done it in the past as well, others can be provided if you need links to threads). Not every productive conversation needs to start with ragebait or someone being a dick to someone else. -

If you'd like to make this a "wow everyone is soft" tangent, feel free. The actual work will be done, and is being done, where these narratives don't permeate - in the recruitment server. I don't think recruitment has denied that they have not had success. If anything it's been in response to the various brash statements that I posted earlier in the thread that were unnecessary to providing constructive criticism and suggestions. So yeah, miss me with the "oh no people can't take criticism" if you also can't understand what a civil conversation with one another is. -

I'm fine with the first paragraph telling Z to step up and help. But this about calling out everyone else to make better content isn't it. If people can meet guidelines, they get their TPE. Updaters deny stuff that isn't up to par. We can acknowledge that people's PTs may not be high enough quality to go on instagram to advertise the league. Our standard for awarding TPE for PTs isn't that high. If people want to meet that bar, they're free too. But that's definitely not the responsibility of the community to complete tasks for recruitment to yoink for social media. -

"Hey no offense, you do an absolute shit job. No offense though." Just be mindful of the way you lay things out man. Everything is semantics, it's a community. It's interactions with people with no way to understand tone. You could definitely just have made the Instagram conversation around "hey, the graphics being posted can be improved to focus on recruitment/advertising rather than just featuring content." Instead there was most definitely language that doesn't sound very conducive to facilitating positive change. "feels like recruitment has been bumbling around not putting any real effort" "fix the sloppy mess that is the social media accounts" "look at this post and honestly tell me you think they’re trying their hardest…" "doesn’t change how boring and useless the instagram is" Just a few easily noticeable examples. But hey, you got the clicks and discourse going. Just at the expense of shitting on the recruitment members who want to do good work and put in effort. -

VHLM and Recruitment are so bad right now
Spartan replied to Zetterberg's topic in VHL League Discussion
For what it's worth I called out those folks for not applying to the recent hiring thread. I've seen Blues say the same as well - people like to complain or offer solutions, but won't readily put in the work. I've brought their names to Moon for him to reach out to them if they're willing to help. I assume that they are if they're offering in gen chat. But your contributions are appreciated and I'm glad you helped out on your own accord. I'll also back up my own words and assist in the recruitment server when it comes to figuring out some plans for future efforts. -

There was a schedule, but there's been a lot of turnover since. I believe Mubbles, Thad(?), N0H, AJW and Ricer all left the team. It's currently Moon, Subject, Triller + V2 as graphics, Tet and VLG as new hires. I think. I still don't think that daily social media posts are the line we need to draw or the standard we need to set. Reduce the frequency of the posts, raise the quality of our posts. Brainstorm what attracts user's attentions. These are in all essence advertisements - so you need to put some thought into what attracts users instead of just leveraging someone's PT with some special effects. Slow down the posts if needed. Once per week is FINE. Just understand the purpose and give it commensurate effort to execute. -
VHLM and Recruitment are so bad right now
Spartan replied to Zetterberg's topic in VHL League Discussion
I don't know how many people saw the last few ads that we ran on YouTube many months ago, but recruitment had done a great job in providing a script that remained consistent across the channels we promoted on. It clearly explained that this isn't a BAP or NHL league, that it's a text based product, and the other key aspects of this league. I don't mind if we avoid NHL 24 youtubers to avoid their crowd if that's the issue here, but I want to be clear that the script that had been used was very clear about what our league is and isn't. -

I'm generally cautious on "leaking" so to speak but I've been adamant on defending the individuals on the recruitment team up to this point because they had no direction or organization through no fault of their own. I think that can be recognized and appreciated separately from the valid criticisms of the team's performance as a whole. Personally I think the league neglected the recruitment team as well by choosing not to hire a head until we've hit this point of no recruits. I just don't think it was wise to essentially say "do what you guys want" and not provide previous knowledge, or instructions of basic activities. -

I understand the point about efforts to results and I don't fault anyone currently on the team for their social media efforts. But it's a straw man to say they could do all 6 and fail when some aspects haven't happened at all recently, from what I can see in the recruitment server. I've said that I don't have issue with social media as long all our eggs aren't in that one basket. If they are, there's got to be some good value coming out of it. When we know what works to even get bodies in from the past (and some quality ones as evidenced by the 100+ youtubers and whatever reddit users that crossed 400 TPE), I don't understand completely ditching that avenue to focus on a platform that will need a lot of time and patience to see results on. You don't bench your superstar RB to play the guy you just drafted in the 4th round when the star's stats are better in every way and proven for success. You make some kind of rotation prioritizing the star who works and slowly building up the rookie over time. -

I don't know when or how this changed, but I'm certain no league staff member approved this. The last recruitment team job posting that was put up by a VHL commissioner specifically lists the duties as follows: - Cultivating new and existing partnerships with ad partners and affiliates. - Designing and running as campaigns. - Working closely with the blue team on retention and recruitment promotions. - Designing promotional material. - Running Social Media Accounts. - Aiding in retention efforts for new members. 4 out of the 6 points are clearly geared towards activites that bring in new members. The other 2 points are what has been prioritized/worked on for various (valid) reasons over the past few seasons. If we want to make the recruitment team large enough to seamlessly run social media accounts while also leveraging tried and trusted forms of recruitment along with new, experimental ways to bring in new members, that shouldn't be an issue at all. I just don't understand how the perspective is that recruitment's job isn't first and foremost to bring in new members. -

VHLM and Recruitment are so bad right now
Spartan replied to Zetterberg's topic in VHL League Discussion
I've been pretty outspoken about this in the past so I think people know my position. I appreciate the efforts of the people who run the social media accounts. It is a tireless and thankless effort that has had no direction in the past from the league or from a head of recruitment. However, I think we've conflated marketing with recruitment, and the overall goal of recruitment has not been met. I've said before in the thread of one of my podcasts how these efforts can be analyzed for usefulness - evaluate the growth of our various social media accounts over time and identify how many members have been brought in from social media. To me as VHLM Commissioner, that's all I care about. I'm very glad if recruitment is assisting the M's efforts of engaging our current users by appreciating their work on PTs. That's their secondary purpose to me after bringing in new users. I've asked in the past for recruitment to become the impartial rookie mentors when that topic was brought up, and that suggestion was declined. So while I appreciate those recognition efforts and am fine with them continuing, we have to realize that it's just not the main facet of the job. There's discussions (and negotiations) with YouTubers for a drive now, so there are efforts being made. Some new hires were also brought it and I'd expect them to be brought to speed very soon so Subject isn't the sole social media representative if that's the focus. I think Z's point of refocusing graphics to also include comments or links to join the VHL would be better, and I also have no issue with the idea of giving any member who joins from social media a newly worded "5 point bonus" that our GMs can explain to them. When it comes to real player likeness, I'm not an expert there but if there hasn't been an issue using real players for this many years, I'm not sure our activity as a league is significant enough when we're not even selling a service. We're completely free to participate in and donations are not required whatsoever. It's a free community that is kept alive by the generosity of members who wish to contribute. Last point regarding pay, we've had issues in the past where recruitment members claimed pay without doing the work. It was a VSN issue as they were the roles earning 6+ TPE a week. I have no issue giving recruitment the same responsibility of pointing to their efforts that week. Whether it was working on a graphic that can be easily posted, or communication with reddits/youtubers (which can be tracked in the Recruitment server where all the commissioners, the head of PT and some updaters are), I think weekly - not daily - efforts can be confirmed for pay. If we need written standards to be defined, it's possible. But the point isn't to make this a job, rather that we recognize that making any sort of recruitment related graphic is worth 6 TPE, or taking even an hour or two in a week to reach out to places to advertise is worth 6 TPE. To me the pay isn't about mandating the time every member of the team puts in each week, but rather the idea that any work being put in has such a great effect on the survival of the league. Anyways it's 1:30 AM and I've been swamped almost all day so let me know if I said something that doesn't make sense. -
Yeah I'm not flaming any team for not having signed him already. Just generally questioning why someone is active and choosing not to sign with teams. Would expect VAN to offer as well.

With how few goalies there are in the VHL overall right now, hard to really punish teams for trying to at least get a goalie at some point in the season. But trading away the human goalie when you don't have another one could be grounds to be reviewed by Commissioners at year end. It'll be a pretty weird season regarding goalies so I figure that there just won't be any look at Spirit of Competition beyond just backup starts. Also why is Karl Pedersen still a FA while he's earning TPE?

@Enorama bumped a post of his on Discord where he had posted some random Steam game keys, which gave me the idea to make this thread. I bought a holiday bundle on Fanatical (link if you want to check it out for yourself) of 20 random games for about $13 USD. I figured I'd keep a few for myself that I was interested in and post the rest here to see if anyone was interested in trading for other game keys they have but don't need/want. Moscow sold after S89, when we won the Victory Cup. We were not "mid" smh. We had the option to run it back but since we had offers for Lavelle, Sogaard, Wallob, and others, it was just easy to sell and get good value back. Lavelle had 1 season left, Sogaard had 2, both went to Toronto. Cap's not an issue, we'll manage as you said. There are options to move players around but I think we have time before that becomes an issue. The S91 class will have 2 more seasons after this one on ELC, so we're good through S93 for sure. S94 should be do-able but will just have to see where everyone's earn rate takes them in terms of overall TPE. I stopped listening after Moscow part was over, that's all I got.

Celise Pereira is 338 TPE, so I guess I should claim the 100 and 250 TPE milestones for 5 TPE https://vhlportal.com/players/playerfocus/5839
