  1. Kendrick Division

    Mexico City Kings

    Rank: 2nd

The Kendrick division is an interesting one this season, containing Mexico, Houston and San Diego. Mexico really lucked out with the new division alignments this season, as both Houston and San Diego are in the process of rebuilding. In fact, they only have a total of 7 players between them. With that being said, Mexico essentially has a free pass to the playoffs this year as they have the worst two teams in the league in their division. Mexico boasts a well rounded team with a fair amount of depth. This is evident by looking at their top three players, Driver, Hylands and Kamenov, who play goalie, right wing and defense, respectively. All of these aspects were good enough to get them ranked 2nd.

    San Diego Marlins

    Rank: 5th

There is not a lot to be said of the Marlins this year, who are in the middle of a rebuild. The Marlins traded away a lot of their draft picks and as a result they didn’t have many last year, which is quite obvious after looking at their roster. San Diego currently only has 4 players on their roster, and goaltender Calvin Harvey is perhaps their only active player. The only thing they have to look forward to this year is the offseason. I am predicting San Diego will be 5th this season, because while they have players with lower TPE, they also have one more player than Houston.

    Houston Bulls

    Rank: 6th

Houston is in year two of their rebuild, after narrowly missing the playoffs last season to the 8th place Halifax 21st by 2 points. Although, the Bulls are objectively even worse this season. They are in a very similar situation to San Diego this season, with almost no draft picks last year and a current roster of only three players. The Bulls as of right now have players that are slightly better than the Marlin’s players, but the Marlins have one more player on the roster so I have Houston picked for 6th. Riley Walker looks to be somewhat active and free agent signing Casey Scott could help them out, but expect this to be another dark season for Houston.

    Corcoran Division

    Saskatoon Wild

    Rank: 1st

In my mind, Saskatoon is the favourite to win it all this season. They had a very successful draft with an abundance of picks, and had the good fortune of TPE leader Lucas Brandt dropping to them at 4th overall. Saskatoon is currently in one of the stronger divisions, which currently has Yukon and an undefeated Las Vegas team. Saskatoon has heavy firepower on offense led by Brandt and Kazimir Komarov. The defense boasts Tyler Walker and King Kruul. One of the scary things about Saskatoon’s team is that they have 2 active goalies, and both of them should be over 200 TPE come playoff time. It is cup or bust for Saskatoon, which is why they are ranked 1st.

    Las Vegas Aces

    Rank: 3rd

The Aces are currently the only undefeated team in the league, but I do think they have been playing above their overall. Regardless, I think they have the personnel to take them to a playoff spot. The main concern for Vegas will likely be depth on defense, as they have a really good first pairing of Alex Letang and Micah Adrienne but not a whole lot after that. Some lower TPE players will have to step up for that on the second pair. The Aces have a pretty good goaltender in Nils Friedriksen, and their top two lines look pretty solid. They definitely don’t have the firepower of top teams like Saskatoon or Minnesota, but they are good enough to rank 3rd. They could be a dark horse in the playoffs.

    Yukon Rush

    Rank: 4th

After a cup run last season, it is time for a rebuild in Yukon. The team from last year is essentially completely gone, and they will have to rely heavily on star goalie Jean Pierre Camus. However, the Rush are not in a state of almost no players like Houston or San Diego. Yukon currently has a squad of 10 players. On the other hand, only 2 or 3 of them appear to be active. Unless they pick up a few players during the season, I don’t see them making playoffs. Having a few lines and a first defense pairing was enough to rank Yukon at 4th.

I know that’s what I’m saying. Look  at the 12-1 team roster & you can see that he has more than four players with  90 and 85 scoring attributes.

No, every player can have a 90 overall and two 85 overalls.

I don’t think everyone followed the attributes rules. Can you actually have a ton of 90 attributes and 85s ? Somebody stacked every one of their players with 90 on scoring.

There is a hard cap of 90, and a soft cap 1 above 85 and a soft cap of 3 above 80. So you could have one stat at 90 and 2 at 85 per player.

  4. Timothy Brown

    Halifax 21st

    RW | 5'11" | 165 lbs.

    Overview

Timothy Brown is a player that impacts the game in more ways than one. While you may constantly notice him on the scoresheet, he is also quietly one of the best defensive forwards in the VHLM. During his rookie season with Saskatoon, Brown had a rocky start but emerged as both a deadly scoring threat and a responsible defensive forward later on in the season. His two-way playing style allowed him to be effective on special teams, logging a large amount of minutes in that category for the Wild. With the 12th overall selection, Brown was taken by the Seattle Bears in the VHL draft, and 2nd overall by the Halifax 21st in the VHLM draft. He was not satisfied with his point totals last year, and will be looking to lead the 21st to a playoff berth this season.

    Strengths

Scoring Ability  - Brown has a knack for putting the puck in the net. He finds loose rebounds and is able to position himself to receive passes from teammates. Brown’s wicked slapshot is one of the most notable parts of his game. Playing on the powerplay for Saskatoon last season, he would frequently be lined up at defense so he could unleash one-timers from the point. Brown ended up scoring 9 goals on the powerplay this way.

Defensive Awareness - One of the lesser known facts about Brown is that he was a defenseman throughout much of minor hockey. He played defense from Novice to Bantam, before making the switch to the wing his first year of Midget hockey in the hopes that it would increase his chances of playing in the big leagues. This is why his awareness for defensive positioning is exceptional. Brown knows exactly where he’s supposed to be at all times, and always seems to be in position. His defensive capabilities are argued to be on par with his scoring prowess, making him an elite two-way player.

Physicality - Brown’s 5’1”, 165 pound frame doesn’t exactly scream “power forward”. However,  he is surprisingly physical for such a small player. Finishing with 144 hits with Saskatoon last year (3rd highest on the team), he can be considered a legitimate checking forward despite his small stature. Some scouts believe that he takes many opposing players by surprise because of his ferocity on the forecheck.

    Weaknesses

Playmaking Ability - There are many aspects of Brown’s game that are exceptional, but one area that he is lacking in is definitely his ability to make plays. While generating offense Brown is purely a goal scorer. He can sometimes be a selfish player, and this showed on the stats sheet last year as he had more goals than assists. While he does make the occasional pass to his teammates, most of his recorded assists are from rebounds. If Brown wants to take his game to the next level, he’ll have to find ways to get his teammates more involved.

Faceoffs - His ability at taking faceoffs is the worst part of Brown’s game by far. Why would faceoffs be important for a winger, you might ask? It’s because of the large amount of time he spends on the penalty kill. When you’re a forward on the penalty kill you’ll have to take the odd faceoff here and there. While this skill is not a necessity, improving his faceoff ability could give him a bit of an edge on special teams play.

ANSWER 6 QUESTIONS FOR 2 CAPPED TPE!

    1) Looking at our draft, how do you feel about the upcoming season?

    2) What are you top goals for your player this season?

    3) Other than Halifax, who do you think could be a top contender in the VHLM this season?

    4) What sort of build are you using for your player?

    5) What are your thoughts on our logo? Are there any changes you'd make?

    6) If you had to pick, which player in the league do you think is gonna win MVP this season?

    7) What's your favorite TV show?

    8. How do you pronounce neither? Is it Nigh-ther or Nee-ther?

    1. Pretty good. Looks like we have about 6 active players heading into this season.

    2. I was a top pick in the draft, so I would like to be among the top 10 in league scoring.

    3. Saskatoon and Mexico. Both of them had 3 first round picks.

    4. A defensive power forward type player.

    7. The Walking Dead, but only the first 4 or 5 seasons. It kinda sucked after that.

    8. Anyone who pronounces it nigh-ther is weird. ?

  6. The text in the bottom right is very nice, it stands out and it is easy to read. The way the background fades from red to black is cool. I think the logo looks pretty sharp, and I like how you also put a logo on the helmet. I dislike how bright the white part of his jersey is, it's kind of hard on the eyes. Rating 8/10

  7. I think the jersey and the logo look great. The red, purple and blue contrast very nicely. I like how the text pixelates at the bottom, it reminds me of the thanos snap effect from the avengers. One thing I don't like is how you spelled his name wrong, but otherwise this graphic looks very good. 8/10

  8. With the conclusion of the VHL draft, Timothy Brown has been drafted by Seattle and now has his sights set on the VHLM draft. Brown had a respectable season with the 7th place Saskatoon Wild, putting up 21 points and 19 assists on the year. Brown was noted mostly for his defensive play, scoring capability and physicality. This was enough to be noticed by the Seattle Bears who took Brown with the 12th overall selection, the final pick of the first round.

Below is a summary of Brown's stats last season:

As of writing this article, Brown is currently second in TPE among eligible players with 198. The leader, Lucas Brandt, currently has 212. Brandt is the favorite to go first overall, with a sizable gap in TPE between him and Brown. Meanwhile, Chris Hylands is hot on Brown’s heels with 197 TPE. Timothy is expected to be a top 5 pick, with his former team Saskatoon currently in possession of both the 4th and 5th overall selections.

    1. The off-season has officially kicked off, what are you looking forward to the most as Season 72 approaches?

The VHLM draft, so I know which team I'm playing for.

    2. A brand new team, the Miami Marauders, has been added to the VHLM. What are your thoughts on this new team?

They probably won't be very good this year. If they make a run like the Vegas Knights did in 2018 I'll be angry.

    3. Who's going first overall in the VHLM Dispersal Draft?

I have Lucas Brandt going first overall, or maybe Jacob Tonn since the M needs goalies.

    4. If you're going to be in the VHL/VHLM drafts, where do you think you'll be drafted? For those who aren't, please write a haiku.

VHL: probably top 3, mosst likely third. VHL: Early second round?

    5. Does the Old Boys' Club exist?

It's there, lurking in the dark ?

    6. Tell me something you want to accomplish in Season 72.

Score a goal in my first 19 games. lmao. Took me 20 last season.

  10. Saskatoon, Saskatchewan - In the spirit of hockey and the VHLM offseason, right winger Timothy Brown has recently taken up the sport of golf. However, he has left many golf instructors baffled at the sight of his poor golfing ability. One particular clip on the internet shows Brown driving the ball wide right of the course, and nearly striking a maintenance guy on a lawn mower.

When asked for comment, a bystander had this to say about Brown; “His technique is horrible, I’ve never seen anything quite like it. Usually hockey players do well at golf”.

Sand traps and water hazards have become familiar sights for Brown, who just can’t seem to stay on the fairway. A silver lining is that Brown recently set a personal best, sitting at 42 over par on an 18 hole course. When we asked Timothy about his golf experience, his response? “Maybe I should just stick to hockey”.
