A Look Back at the S41 Class (pt 1)

We will be taking a look back at the S41 VHL Draft Class and seeing how the members of that class have progressed throughout these 4 seasons. The S41 draft class boasts of 6 Cup champions. The first round of that draft had a couple sure fire picks at 1 and 2 with Mikaelson and Kowalski. Both of those players have been productive players in the VHL so far.

Mikaelson played 3 seasons with the team that took him first overall, the Seattle Bears and helped backstop the team to a Continental Cup in S43, winning the Playoff MVP trophy along the way. He was then traded to Quebec where he put up some gaudy numbers but it wasn't enough to win his second cup. Mikaelson was then traded to NY and has been putting up some pedestrian numbers. He's declared his intentions to retire at the end of this season and this last run with the Americans will mark the end of his career which some may lament as being too short. He currently sits at 799 TPE which places him 1st in the draft class. Looking back now, Mikaelson was really the only quality goaltender to come out of this draft.

Jack Kowalski much like Mikaelson spent his first 3 seasons with the team that drafted him. His rookie season had him play more of a defensive role but he still managed to put up 43 points with 185 blocked shots. He had a big sophomore season where he put up 77 points to go with 167 shots blocked but has since hasn't managed to reach that level of play again. Not finding much playoff success in Stockholm throughout his first 3 seasons he was then traded to Toronto where he led the struggling team with 56 pts. S45 had Kowalski moving again as he was shipped off to Riga where he's teamed up with another S41 defender in Ackerman. His 557 TPE places him 2nd in the draft class. Kowalski is arguably the best defenceman from this draft as just his TPE count puts him far ahead of his competition.

Now we take a bit of a jump to the tail end of the first round. The 9th overall pick in the draft Rift Pajodcast was initially drafted by Stockholm but found himself going to Seattle before the first game of the season. Pajodcast was a consistent scoring forward for the Bears as he racked up 134 points in 3 seasons with the Bears. He played a major part in the Cinderella story that was the S43 Seattle Bears who won their way to a championship despite the odds. Like many of the Bears after their Cup win, Pajodcast left and signed with Cologne in free Agency. His 451 TPE has him as the 3rd highest earner in the draft class and the highest amongst forwards selected in the draft.
