    Generating interest in the World Cup is very adjacent to a thread that's open in BoG right now, so it's a very good time to come up with ideas on the matter. I'd be happy to repost any serious suggestions there for visibility.

    Yeah, it makes sense too, but maybe making it in the off-season makes it feel like it doesn't mean anything? Hell, the lottery tournament could change an entire franchises' fortunes and not a soul sans-rory even looked at it for like 8 seasons. I was actually thinking the other day that we need to change what "triple gold" means in the VHL, because nobody cares about international events, which is really too bad. As far as I know, the international stuff is huge in the SHL, so there's probably some things to learn from there. 

     

    Nonetheless, I'm still on board for a 1-time nationality change pre-International appearance. Even when the WC is made great again. :)

    IMO we should be treating it as if it's taken seriously, because that's what we have the most direct control of. Step 2 is putting in the work to get the community on that page as well.

    I agree with that, 100%. Should international tournaments be mid-season, pausing the regular season schedule? 👀 Doesn't sound like a bad idea to get people paying more attention. 

     

    I feel like most of the tournaments take place in private discord servers, which is like, the absolute worst for visibility.

    Perhaps I didn't explain well enough that this is in the context of people trying to cheese things like WJC/WC. I think it would be really stupid if some team won because people decided before the tournament that they'd like to go make a supergroup somewhere when that wasn't something that existed previously.

    Not trying to start a debate here, but what's the problem with that? 

     

    It could theoretically already be done by a large group of recreates. What's the difference (besides the clerical headache of actually changing all their nationalities)?

    1: It's almost the end of the regular season. How do you think Chicago did and do you believe we can get better next season?

    Chicago missed out on the playoffs I see, but was to be expected due to the lack of Scotty Sundin and the rebuilding nature of the team. I don't think anyone was too surprised or disappointed, the team was still in the mix until the very end. I think next season is when the expectation starts being set that this core needs to take the next step. And I'm sure optimistic we will.

    2: Do you play in any other sim leagues?

    I have tried SBA, EFL, SHL, and SSL, but never lasted long in any of them. Not even sure I had a player really make an impact in the big leagues in any of them. If we're counting EHM as a GM though, I am in 2 leagues, and have been in probably 15+ total over the last 5-6 years.  

    4: What was the last book you read?

    The last book I completed was Crossroads by Kaleb Dahlgren, one of the surviving members of the tragic Humboldt Broncos bus crash. A pretty solid read. The last book I picked up, however, is Walkable City by Jeff Speck - as a Geo major and aspiring urban planner, really into this kind of stuff right now. 

    5: Do you believe Alexander Ovechkin will take the Goal record from Wayne Gretzky?

    Absolutely, without a doubt. I'm not sure why people are recently saying he won't, or he'll retire, because who the hell in their right mind would stop 50 goals or less to that target? Even if he's scoring less than 10 goals a season, he's playing until he gets it. 

    7: What do you think about Ridley Grieg's empty net goal?

    Absolutely loved it. I hate the Senators and the Leafs, but it was an absolute rockstar move in a passionate win. The Sens get their Stanley Cup and the leaf faithful cry, so it's a win-win for me as a Bruins fan. I will also say that people love to say "hockey players show no personality/emotion/etc." and then rip one for doing something like this. Choose one.

    8: The Chiefs won the Superbowl! What's your opinion of this Dynasty?

    Obviously I was cheering for them in the beginning, but now it's just too damn much. Mahomes has quickly become the enemy of the entire league, and is seriously entering GOAT conversations at just the age of 28. I'm also pissed they beat my Eagles last season. It's obviously a dynasty, but I'm afraid it is FAR from over.

    1: If you were to make a brand of hockey stick what'd you want it to be called?

    Honestly, that's a pretty good question. You'd have to stick out and appeal to the youngin's, because almost nobody would change to a new brand mid-career. Maybe something like the Howler. I don't know, I just use them, I ain't no marketing expert! 

    2: Would you consider the Phoenix to be buyers or sellers at this season's deadline?

    The trade deadline has already passed, but I assume the team was passive sellers. The structure seems pretty solid here in Chicago, and the team is just waiting for their players to develop and prospects to grow. They'd be dumb not to listen to offers, but I would assume no big moves were made. 

    3: How many goals will your player score this season?

    Great question. Karol's offense hasn't been the greatest over in Bratislava, but I'm hoping to pot a few more before the year is over and maybe I can squeak into double digits. I'm fine with 6 as long as we keep winning, though.

    5: Are you keeping track of prospects for the NHL draft? If so, who looks good to you?

    Yeah, I've actually been quite invested in Canadian youth hockey and University hockey recently, so I have been quite interested in the past few drafts. Russians Ivan Demidov and Anton Silayev are both superstars in the making but really haven't been given the media hype despite being ranked very high. My steal of the draft is going to be my local team's best player, Kevin He - who certainly isn't getting any media love but is budding pro talent. 

    6: Who is the MVP of your favorite hockey team right now?

    The easy answer would be David Pastrnak, but since it popped into my head first, I'll answer it with 2 other players, in the form of a GIF:

    7: What's your favorite album of all time?

    There's probably about 20 albums I could name here if you ask me 20 different times, but since I just recently listened to it front to back I'll go with Virtue by The Voidz. Saw them in concert last November and it was UNREAL.
