  1. When I was working in retail, sometimes the only thing that got me through the shift was lying to customers about shit. Inconsequential things, but it was amusing, and nobody could tell me to stop because it wasn't hurting anyone.

I also enjoy being a dick to people without them realizing that I'm being a dick. I started a new job in late October working customer service, and most of my customer interactions are via email. Sometimes when people are being fucking stupid, I'll literally just copy my last email and paste it into the new one as a reply. I love pulling out the "per my last email." Just passive aggressive shit that nobody can get me in trouble for because it's not my fault that people are idiots and don't read

we can always just say that the Prospect Report is to be completed from the time of a player's VHL Draft Season, up until their first game in the VHL.

This make sense to me, both with the name update + the timing requirements. I'd be down to keep the (still terrible imo but objectively fine) task with these updates

As for the final task, whether it's the Vet Presence or the Career Recap/Biography:

I don't really like the idea of creating a task specifically for first gens. By the end of the player's career, first gens don't feel like a /first gen/ anymore. I know they technically are, but it feels like an unnecessary Othering. Outside of dividing the final task between recreates and first gens, I don't think I've seen an idea proposed that incentivizes people to do without giving the next player TPE.

I don't know anything about HOF article writing–how much TPE is offered, is there a limit on how many you can write, is the writing held to a higher standard? Personally I think it'd be more interesting to have a HOF link on a player page, but it feels weird for some players to have a career recap + a HOF article. Sure, a HOF article could replace the career recap link, but then a user's work is just erased from the player page.

Adding a career recap article link to the player page could be cool, but I don't think it'd actually bring enough of a positive that it's actually worth doing. In my opinion, it seems more like doing something for the sake of doing it.

I still like the idea of a Vet Reflection (is anyone surprised that I like my own idea? lol), but I get (although sadly) that other people don't like that task and just aren't doing it. If that's the case (especially the latter), then it seems most logical to just get rid of everything after the rookie experience–drop the Vet Reflection/Biography.

  3. slight update:

As a secondary point task, members may complete a Game Recap in the appropriate sim thread. This recap must be at least 75 words, is worth 1 TPE, and may be claimed up to two times per week. The recap should cover topics relevant to the chosen game.

This includes, but is not limited to:

    1) A recap of the game

    2) Shouting out a great performance

    3) Presenting an opinion/observation from the game

A member CANNOT recap a game if:

    1) Their player played in the game

    2) They GM one of the teams in the game

Prospects of a VHL and/or VHLE team are allowed to do recaps of those teams before they make that team's roster. ALL VHL-sanctioned sims are eligible for recaps, including the World Cup and WJC.

Dunno, think it encourages shouting the loudest to get your idea traction when it might just not be a good idea.

    truth. didn't think about that

It's difficult to say. I personally think every topic is unique that a one size fits all process just doesn't make sense.

this was also my concern. like i don't think that some things will require a vote, and the ones that do will get one without having this kind of structure imposed

i think the problem we're trying to solve is the fact that some threads just die because of inactivity despite some people wanting to move forward with it. i like the idea of individuals being responsible for specific threads. it'd make it easier to write the bog updates each month if there's already a recap of everything in the thread somewhere (+ maybe a few more posts).

i don't want to appoint myself into this kind of formal role or anything but if i see that there are threads that just spontaneously died when i do the quit peek through the threads for updates, i could just drop something into the thread, maybe even the same paragraph i use in the update. just something to try to get some sort of closure

the main issue is that "write about what it means to be a veteran" is just so open-ended

i feel like that's what makes it an interesting task. Putting direction on the instructions can really limit the opportunities, and I think that the open-ended questions lead to more interesting content in general. my veteran presence from socks is probably one of my favorite articles i've ever written for this league, but it's partially because i was able to talk about my player and the team around me. i'm probably biased in favor of the veteran presence task because it suits my creativity style.

I'm sticking to my guns on being anti-Prospect Scouting Report. Just for reference, here's the instructions:

    Quote

Prospect Scouting Report (To be written during a player's VHL Draft Season, or the season after their VHL Entry Draft, up until the start of the following season. I.E. a S74 player may complete this task any time between the start of S73 and the start of S75) - Short review of VHLM career,  focus on pros/cons, or other method of scouting report. Must be 400 words minimum, worth 5 TPE.

The timing is just super weird. We call it a "Prospect Scouting Report," but allow it to be completed after a player goes through the VHL draft? (also realizing that these descriptions need to be updated with the E)

If you've already gone through all the drafts, what's the point of a "scouting report"?

    > Player background, where they're coming from into the M (basically what spart said with Junior Revies --> Biography)

    > Delete Prospect Scouting Report

    > Modify Rookie Experience to Rookie Perspective (name debatable) and change it from solely a reflection to also include forward thinking such as goal setting. (IDK why we'd have this and the PSR?) Allow a longer period during which this can be completed by a member

    > KEEP Veteran Presence/Reflection

I don't know what to do with the last task, if any at all. I don't like the idea of being able to write it for your player during their career then claim it in the next player's career. We could also switch Veteran Presence to more of a Veteran Reflection and require it to be longer + more TPE but available for claiming for a longer period of time

At the same time, I among others were under the impression that the final career task was not for folks after like S70 creates

we're not crazy. it's because the more recent career point tasks have this kind of disclaimer in big ass letters at the top of the instruction post

what if the person starting a topic were given the responsibility of making sure to at least bump the thread after a few days? They can also put up a reply right at the top of the thread and edit it as conversation moves on to mark down what's been brought up and who thinks what about it.

yeah this. if you post a topic, you monitor it

However, you CANNOT recap a game that your player plays in, or that a team you GM is in.

this sentence is kinda clunky, can we change it to this:

Members may not recap games if 1) their player played in the game or 2) they GM a team that played.

  8. also not a fan of task tpe going toward the next player. recreates already get a bonus for being a recreate with carryover, i don't see a great reason to allow tasks to carry to the next player.

i'm sad to hear that nobody likes the veteran presence bc that was my favorite career task to write with socks. i think it's fun, and you actually have an opportunity to diversify the type of things that you're writing based on how you do or don't move your player. if i had to get rid of a career task, it'd be the prospect scouting report. i hate that one.

Would it make sense to displace the TPE from veteran presence to other tasks for the total amount of TPE to remain consistent, or do we just eliminate it?

i say just eliminate it unless we're changing word count requirements for the other tasks

  9. It’s been quite a while since the Board of Governors has issued an official update on what we’re doing. Please note that these updates are for the purpose of the general VHL member to know what we are and aren't working on. Some topics that move on and off this list may not come to fruition–we may decide that, after careful examination, the idea isn't practical or has too many inevitable opportunities for failure. These updates are not intended to signal that we have everything about it figured out.

Frequency of these updates is to be determined. There's no point in posting weekly updates stating that concepts are still in progress, but the goal is to reduce the amount of unknowns with relation to what people are and aren't paying attention to. Anyway, without further ado...

    The Meta

We have been in the process of discussing how to resolve the meta issue in the league since late October. Our goals for the project include creating a more well-rounded competition among teams, rather than a select few teams dominating the entire league because of specific player builds.

A challenge we’ve faced in our search for a good solution has been a resistance to infringing upon user freedoms in building their player. We’re narrowing potential solutions so that users still have control over how they build without allowing for the current issue to persist. We’ve advanced from the initial discussion phase and are currently looking at test sims that have been run by fellow board members.

    VHLM Waiver Improvement

We are currently working through a proposal to update how the VHLM Waiver System works. Right now, VHLM GMs are required to manually post in player creation threads, which takes time, effort, and availability. The proposal for improvement consists of moving the VHLM waiver to the portal. This concept was proposed in response to a deep dive into retention.

We reached a point where BOG members had said their piece, and we are collecting information and opinions from VHLM GMs, as they would be the primary population affected by the changes.

    VHL Finance Transparency

    unknown.png?width=950&height=490

All amounts listed are in CAD. The makeup of each expense category in this quarter is as follows:

    • Advertising, costs related to recruitment drives.
    • Branding, costs related to purchasing team logos.
    • Charity, the total of funds donated to the league earmarked for charity and the league contribution from the holiday drive. (Does not include holiday raffle winners)
    • Hosting, costs related to hosting the portal and forums.
    • Licensing, costs related to STHS licenses.

    Career Point Task Revisit

There have been complaints (both old and new) about the career point tasks. This proposal just came forward a couple days ago, so not much has been done on this front.

We’re evaluating the career point tasks as they currently stand to determine whether they should be updated/returned to how they previously were. More to come on this front.

    Additional Secondary Task

We received a proposal about adding a new secondary point task since trivia wasn’t running. Right now, secondary point task options include reviewing, VHL.com tasks (article, radio, and graphic), and press conferences. Although there are ways to reach cap each week the the current options, without trivia, these options may require people to complete tasks in formats that they’re not comfortable with. The goal outlined in the proposal is to offer more opportunities for forum engagement and connecting with people outside of your own team’s locker room/immediate vicinity. We are currently in the process of determining whether we should implement the proposed task, especially given the return of trivia.

  10. When I was looking through active threads this morning to write the update, I realized that we'd abandoned a thread concerning a mentorship program despite the fact that there was a lot of support for it. One of the biggest concerns with this idea is that we're losing the human element of creating & choosing a team–what if, in the case that we move waivers to the portal, we simultaneously test a mentorship gig? Thoughts?
