For the sake of 2 TPE, I shall express my thoughts and maybe go on a couple of tangents/rambles.

So I'll be honest, I don't think I did too well in this draft. Of course I am confident that I landed on a few picks, but otherwise I am not confident in the picks I made especially in the late rounds. I think I'm just being hard on myself but making a meme pick 69th overall is the only thing that I have going for me. If I were anyone else looking at my draft, I'd question the GMs picks, and more so the trades I made. Though I guess I'll trust the process and see through with the choices I made.

Last season was honestly crazy. Well the sims themselves (apart from an all expansion team finals) was meh, but the amount of changes in both management and how the league is run is just wack. I personally don't mind all the AGM changes as there's guaranteed to be multiple in a season. The lifespan of an AGM is pretty short, especially for the VHLM, but holy shit the amount of GM changes in both the VHL and VHLM. It's like everything just clicked and somehow the old was now being ousted for the new. I'm not sure how I feel about it, sure I ended up getting hired as a GM in the process but like, it's weird. Beaviss leaving as both commish and Vancouver's GM is also quite a shock. I didn't officially say this, but Beav has contributed so much to the league and it's honestly a bit sad to see him step down. Though I do understand why.

Something that ticks me off a lot are those who despite all the pings and DMs, they still ignore you. This is more of a management sort of problem but, I'm sure others can relate one way or another. When you've freshly drafted a player or acquired a first-gen through waivers, I try to PM them on the forums to try to get them onto the LR and or talk to me. Sometimes they'd just not respond or not even read the message. Of course I wouldn't be too shocked about that most of the time. Especially when the person you drafted is barely active. I'd likely try one or two more times to start a conversation, but if they refuse to reply, it really hits the fan for me. It gets frustrating because you don't know if they actually care, or if they just don't know what to do or something. It hurts even more if they leave you on read because you know that they've seen your message and yet they've chosen to not even reply. I'll admit that I've been guilty of leaving people on read before, so I'm not entitled to a response, but my job as a VHLM GM  is to help new players. So how can I help them when they refuse to reply? In the end it's likely going to end in me dropping players when they're within the realm of inactivity in terms of rules. So that honestly sucks.

DreMin15 got a reaction from mattyIceman in Jannik Nylen Junior Review
Jannik Ratislav Nylen, born in Viberg, Denmark, has played for the past 5 years in the Metal Ligaen. Playing in Denmark's top-teir professional league has conditioned him to play well against people not only his own age, but those with much more skill and experience than him.

Beginning his professional career with the Odense Bulldogs in 2016, Nylen played 23 games in his rookie season, tallying 3 goals and 7 assists for 10 points. For an 18-year-old rookie, these numbers were quite commendable. The next season saw him play the full 45-game season, tallying 7 goals and 20 assists, though many considered him a "third assist" type of player, often making the breakout passes that led to many goals for his team. His Ligaen career took a turn when he was traded that offseason to the Esbjerg Energy, where he then would crank up his offensive production. Though not as many goals, scoring 13 goals, he exploded in the other category for 44 assists, for 57 points in 45 games. These totals might make you think that Nylen is the type of defenseman to have a downside of defensive ability. However, this could not be further from the truth. Jannik actually prefers stopping potential scoring chances than creating them for his own team. In his next two seasons with Esbjerg, he would continue to excel as a young defenseman, scoring 63 and 66 points in his final two seasons in the Metal Ligaen. Nylen has been quoted as saying, by a Danish newspaper,  "Jeg tror, at jeg kan være en stor fordel for ethvert hold i VHLM og til sidst VHL, og håber at bringe mine defensive og offensive færdigheder til det hold, der har mig." ("I believe that I can be a great benefit to any team in the VHLM, and eventually the VHL, and hope to bring my defensive and offensive skills to whatever team will have me.) The last part of Nylen that many would be delighted to hear, showcased in the previous quote, is the ability and willingness to work with any situation. He knows that not everything will always go peachy, his first two seasons were on a team that was near the bottom of the standings, and knows that sometimes you just need to work more with yourself and your team. Jannik looks forward to seeing how his skills will translate to the VHLM, and hopes to show that his accolades in the Metal Ligaen weren't just for show,

    1) I'm definitely a big fan of the new changes.

       2) Well, you did pick me, so I think you did pretty well in the draft!

       3) I'd be down for that. Maybe top scorer, best defenseman (doesn't necessarily have to mean most goals/points),         most improved player, etc.

       4) Fuck it, why not? Let's get that bag!

       5) Officially? maybe 25-30 points. With imaginary third assists? 1000

       6) Depends. Are we talking normal fries or, like Cajun fries? Are we talking basic Lays chips or are we talking ketchup chips? If I have to choose, Cajun fries all day long.

DreMin15 reacted to JigglyGumballs in First VHLM Draft as a GM
So with my first VHLM draft as a GM done, I thought that it would be a good idea to do a draft review and reflect on the decisions I've made in this draft. Though before we get to the actual draft picks, why not talk about the preparations behind it?

The VHLM draft, in all honesty, was something I was a bit unprepared for. With the transition of GMs so close to the draft date itself, I basically had to make a draft board from scratch, with a little help from @rjfrymanon how to do so, but I also had to make sure I knew the situation of my team before I actually started properly scouting. That meant dropping FAs and inactives. Once I had a better situation of the team as a whole, I began scouting. The good thing about this draft is that it's defense heavy. Something I honestly found fortunate because I basically had like one defenseman who was also a FA. So I had to acquire me some of them D. Another thing I honestly considered, and which I ended up doing is moving up in the draft. I had the fortunate circumstances of being left with more than one 3rd rounder and 4th rounder and along with the value of my 2nd rounder, I found it a tad bit easier to move up in the draft without giving up too many futures. Which... I pretty much ended up doing anyways. Though that's not the point. So without the time to properly scout the draft, what could I do? Well what I did was draft those who I was already familiar with early. Which yes meant a bit of player retention, plus the targeting of recreates. The thing about recreates is that most of the time, you're already decently well respected member. I could (hopefully) rely on them to not only give the team quality players, but to also really help out with locker room activity. Same goes with retaining players. I'm familiar with how they are because as their former AGM, I already have an idea as how they were going to be. Plus bringing back a familiar face to the LR was also a good way to promote some more activity. TL;DR is basically I tried to kill two birds with one stone early on. Get good players who I know will be active and get a more active LR presence. The rest of the draft is a lot more riskier as the rest were basically "magic bean" picks as I would call it. They're called magic beans because I legitimately don't know if they're even going to be active or not. I don't know whether they'll completely lose interest in the league, or become the next superstar. All I can hope is that by giving them a chance on the team, their interest in the league might be brought back. Anyways I've been talking too long so let's get on with the actual picks!

    10th Overall: Sven Reikkinen - D @Devise
So starting off here, we have Devise and his fresh new player, Sven Reikkinen! When I was scouting for the draft, I had thought of potentially trading up in the draft so I can draft someone who I personally really wanted. Yes I did have to give up my 2nd rounder, but as the GM of Las Vegas, I chose to bet on my fortunes that some of my other targets would be in range. Aside from that, Devise was my teammate in LA back when Markus Nygren was still playing, and seeing that he was likely to play in the M this season, I decided to just straight up get him when I had the opportunity to. Hopefully with his addition he could help rig the si- I mean provide stability to a previously non-existent back end. Welcome to the team!

    30th Overall: ezechiele pierde enel - D @Minermonkey
Minermonkey was the only player from last season who I could actually retain. And yes he was selected for a pick that I traded for. The mentality for that trade was to not only bring back a former player and friend of Vegas alum @Matt thunder, but to also potentially get the chance to bring someone new as well by getting back to back picks. Either way, enel was someone who I basically promised myself to bring back, and I'm so glad I did. Also just as a side note, if you wanna prioritize either passing or scoring, please don't have them close as the same stat. There should always be a 10 point difference between passing and scoring if you wanna do either.

    31st Overall: Zarek Kaczka - D @Hank
So the first player who wasn't a recreate nor was I familiar with, Kaczka honestly caught my eye when I first looked at him while scouting. No I didn't send any draft questions, but I really liked the build and the amount of earning he has TPE wise. I had enough confidence in him that I was perfectly comfortable with picking him 31st overall. I'm not sure if he was overlooked or I was just lucky to have him available, but I am glad to have picked him. I have great expectations for him and I hope he pans out.

    38th Overall: Jannik Nylen - D @DreMin15

Joking aside, my buddy from the S72 rookie squad has come back as a defenseman! I practically swore to myself to draft him when I saw DreMin recreate. If I didn't draft him, I would gladly trade for him. I didn't even consider that he could've possibly been ineligble because of a cutoff date for draft eligible players. Even then, so glad to have you back on the team bud! I see that you've chosen to become a passing defenseman. And from my experience, the best you can do is give people fantasy points. Good luck with that.

59th Overall: Yonistov Zazilov - RW @Joey Smitherson
The first forward of this draft and also the first person who I would consider a "magic bean" pick. Magic bean picks are those who I legitimately have no idea whether or not they'll be active or not. However, that does not mean I picked them for the sake of making a pick. Zazilov does have a bit of an iffy build but with his low TPE, that can easily be worked on. Anyways I don't have much to say other than welcome to the team!

    63rd Overall: Egor Minuski - LW @ttman
I think this entire draft, I've just been drafting people who's players are outside of North America. If anyone in the draft stream had to go out and pronounce any of these names, well sorry not sorry. Anyways, another "magic bean" pick, the reason as to why I chose Minuski is because he was, and probably still is a very recent player create. Meaning that I can give him ample amounts of time to see whether or not he'll be active. What's interesting is that his build has all his TPE applied to SK and SC which is honestly a step in the right in terms of actually having good players, so hopefully he fully joins the LR. Welcome to the team!

    67th Overall: Eric graTTon - C @ERIC GraTTon
So this is the first pick that has a decently easy name to pronounce. Though the spelling is definitely eye catching. Again my plan with these "magic bean" picks was to draft players who were still fresh in the league. I thought that their interests would still be rather new and by bringing them to a team like Vegas, I can help them pan out and make it to the VHL. A passing center build, graTTon's build is rather well rounded? I would object to applying TPE to discipline but again with the low amount of TPE, everything should be fixable. Welcome to the team.

    69th Overall: Reylynn Reinhart - D @Ricer13
    Nice.

    71st Overall: omarius bryant jr - C @Omariusbryant123434
With the last pick of the draft, we have the biggest "magic bean" pick yet. Not only has he not updated ever since creation, he has also never applied his TPE anywhere to his stats. This pick to me was just a shot in the dark to end off the draft. It is worth the try and I really do hope you join the LR and we can help you develop your player. I really don't have much to say. Welcome to the team though!

And that's that. My quick and easy draft recap. I hope that the more season's I do as a GM, the more experienced I am with making my picks. Though in all honesty, this wasn't too bad of a draft. Even if any of my lower picks don't pan out, I hope that those I personally wanted on the team would be good enough to not label this draft a bust for me. Once again, welcome to Las Vegas folks, and I hope we have a great season together!

J.K: "I was surprised a bit that I dropped in the draft a bit. However, I can't say that I'm unhappy about how the whole ordeal went down. I wasn't actually watching it because of how late the draft happened with timezones and all. I went to bed early, intending to be up early for any sort of news or messages I received. I don't think I have ever seen my phone more blown up as much as I did that morning. When I saw who drafted me, I can't say I was surprised. I was glad, actually, that a team who has shown that they think I am worth reaching out to was the one to pick me up."

DreMin15 got a reaction from Spartan in Off the Ice With Jannik Nylen Episode 1
Hey everyone, my name is Jannik Nylen, now a defenseman for the Las Vegas Aces. Off the Ice is basically a series where I'm going to be showing you a brief peek behind the curtains of my time off the ice.

Today's inaugural episode, we will be going over my move to Las Vegas. It's very, very, very different from Ejsberg. It's like if you cranked up the energy to 11 and also injected more drugs and addiction. However, if you go to the more suburban parts of Vegas that most people don't see, it's actually a very nice place. It's also so incredibly hot that I like to keep inside my apartment. I didn't know heat like this was possible.

When I first landed, I was greeted by the manager himself, Jiggly Gumballs. It shows a lot about an organization when the guy who drafted you is there to greet you for the first time. He also picked up some Danish, which I greatly appreciated. It was nice knowing that some others that know my native tongue will be around me. He gave me a tour of the team's facilities, which was nice. The arena is very impressive, easily two times as large as the one we had back in Ejsberg. The practice facility was even large. I'd never seen a private gym that large. I suppose those will be the kind of things to expect with North America.

I'm settling in well, and looking forward to debuting for all the fans. Thank you all for reading and I hope to make everyone back home proud!

DreMin15 reacted to JigglyGumballs in All Lead Up to This Moment
Look ma! I achieved something for once!

Joking aside, I'm a VHLM GM now. It's honestly a bit of a dream come true, and after finding out of my hiring while waiting for my order in a Burger King, I think it's time I take a bit of time to reflect on what lead up to this moment. No this won't be a grand tale of uphill battles, trials and tribulations or any of that bullshit, but rather a tale about taking opportunities. Which of course, always comes with a sprinkle of luck.

Just because I'm a GM now doesn't mean I'm not a first-gen. Yeah I've been in this league for quite a while now, but I'm still going through the career of my first ever player in the VHL. I joined the VHL on June 12, 2020 after my irl buddy @PatrikLaine asked if I wanted to join the VHL. I'm not exactly sure what lead up to me joining, but I'm pretty sure it was just a regular afternoon conversation over instagram or discord that lead up to me joining. I remember actually being a bit hesistant on joining, especially since I literally had no idea what I was doing. I'm sure Laine is tired of me saying this but when I first joined, I didn't quite look up what to do or what guides should I read. All I did was literally ask Laine about everything. Being the good friend that he is, he gave me all the advice I needed for the time being and I joined the Houston Bulls late into S72. Under the management of @Sonnet (Who I dare call my senpai) at the time, this team is what basically got me hooked onto the VHL. The S72 Bulls with Laine, @DreMin15, @MattyIce, and @KnightRiley were honestly something. One thing you have to consider about that team, was that the team fucking sucked. Yet somehow, whether it was because of the (then) newbies like me riding that new user enthusiasm or something else, we managed to build an active team. Though by the end of the season, Sonnet had become the VHLM's Commissioner and @rjfryman came in as the new, and current Houston GM. I remember DMing RJ back then, asking if he planned to keep me since I was eligible for the dispersal draft. Some time later after being drafted to LA and Ottawa, I'd DM him again asking if he was looking for an AGM. Looking back at it now, I feel a tad bit embarrassed for reaching out mostly because I feel like I was a bit desperate(?) to stay a part of the team. Though it was during those conversations where I first started getting actual advice on how the league works from a managerial perspective. Ever since those days in Houston, I wanted to ultimately become a GM, and naively I wanted to do so before my first player retires.  So in all honesty, those talks with RJ mean a lot to me. So I'm genuinely grateful that he actually took a bit of his time to talk to me and encourage me to go for tournaments like the WJC.

In the meantime during all that, I was applying for all sorts of AGM jobs. Both VHL and VHLM. I specifically sought after AGM jobs because I thought that learning under a GM was the best way for me to ultimately become one myself. Plus being an AGM was a lot more long term of a position than compared to GMing a WJC team. I think I missed out on 3-4 chances before as luck would have it, I was finally given the opportunity when I hired as the AGM of Las Vegas. What I find oddly coincidental between my hiring as Vegas's GM and back when I was initially hired as AGM was that the timing is very similar. I was hired before the S74 VHLM draft, and after three seasons later, at around the same time I would be hired as the GM of LVA. But before that, let me first talk about the very person who's given me every opportunity and who I owe my current VHL career to. @Spartan didn't even know that I was (and still am) a highschooler when I was initially hired, yet I couldn't ask for a better mentor other than him. Since when I first came as AGM, Spartan had taught me everything I needed to know and has given me all the opportunities of actually applying the knowledge he's taught. Including a memorable draft stream trade flub which I honestly will never forget because it was that stupid. I've yet to make another mistake similar to that but now that I'm a GM, I feel like I'll probably do the same kind of fuck up this coming draft.

I always felt like I was part of Vegas since the beginning, this team has become a new home for my heart since Houston. I've always been particularly close to the VHLM, so to not only become a GM, but to GM the team I would frankly call my home is a bit of a dream come true. I know I've done nothing but express my thanks today, but I'll fucking do it again. Thank you. To everyone. It took a bit but I'm finally here. I'll sure as hell excited to see where I'll take Vegas to next, and whether or not that involves winning a cup I don't know. All that matters is the draft ahead and what I can bring to this team.
