I had a great time in San Diego and I'm looking forward to playing in Philly! Thanks so much to both GMs especially Jacob and all the best to everyone in San Diego

    1. We seem to have gone about .500 this week, what is your player doing to try to win those second games?
My player is starting to rack up the points for sure so we'll see how much that can help the team. Shrimp is starting to heat up and he has the potential to help in any aspect.

    2. Do you wish the TPE Cap was higher than 12? Or perhaps you think it is too high? Spill your thoughts.
I think it's an okay cap because if you do have the ability to earn then you can definitely reach the cap easily. However for those that are a little busy, it may be difficult and they have to be satisfied with 10 per week with welfare.

    3.  What has been the most surprising performance on the team so far?
Us starting to be better. Everyone has been contributing and everyone has been showing up to the rink everyday. It makes things easier on and off the ice for everyone especially the goalie of the team.

    4. If you could have one VHL user or NHL player on the team, who would they be?
I would say Shea Theodore, I'm a big vgk fan and he has great defensive abilities that will help the goalie and also the forwards. His got a good eye with great hockey IQ, smooth hands for deking too.

    5. Give me music recommendation?

    6. Has your player build met your expectations so far this season?
It's still to early to judge Shrimp rn but I would say I am satisfied so far and I hope the sim gods bless him.

I think this is more on the members than anything else. If you're on Discord and you see a message pop up in the help channel, I feel like you would go in and see what's up and potentially give an answer--I would too. Someone who wouldn't doesn't really care about helping people and likely wouldn't give a decent answer regardless of the channel it's in.

And honestly? If people are posting in the help channel and not getting help, we as a community should be ashamed of ourselves. The amount of saying we care about attention, retention, and burnout prevention (heh) is way larger than the amount of doing sometimes.

This also bugs me in the sense that I stated earlier, that I personally don't care what's talked about where as long as it doesn't hurt anyone. But that's much less annoying to me than a new member's first act in the server being getting moderated needlessly.

Personally I do agree with this. There are so many categories in the league's discord server that it's so easy to lose track. And with so many non-league related channels, what is supposed to fall in the category of 'general' chat?

The suggestion of having new members join the help channel instead of general is really great and it would help with the problem. However, I'm also concerned about new members not getting the help they need.

    1. Although we had a slow first couple sims, we've been winning games since. What do you think is the reason for our upturn of winning?
Pretty sure it's with good strats and waiver pickups. Going into the season as we get more waivers signed we'll likely be good to go and should be able to give a good fight against other teams.

    2. What is the best thing you ate/drank this week?
It has to be the yoghurt drink I have everyday. It's pretty basic but I honestly can't more than 2 days without it.

    3. The NHL Entry Draft is this week, do you plan on watching it?
Unfortunately I don't have access to any live streams or tv broadcasts but I'll be interested in seeing who goes 1st overall and who the teams decide to pick.

    4. Where is one place you'd love to travel to?
I wanna go to India, Canada and even New Zealand.

    5. What is one thing about the VHL that has confused you?
The new system? It is kinda hard for me to see which hybrid attribute affects which sths attribute since I'm so used to seeing the old system. Another one that has always confused me was the career point tasks.

    6. What is another hobby that you have?
Playing valorant is something I love to do. Apart from that, it's listening to music

    How to start a podcast

I have hosted and been a guest star on a fair few podcasts in my time and if you are looking at starting a podcast here are a few tips on how to make it more successful.

    1.0   Theme
Before you go hitting the record button you need to figure out the overall theme of your podcast. You could go a more comedic approach as in a JardyB10 production, you could go a strict vhl news/current events approach such as what Spartan does a lot, or even go a bit of a roleplaying approach. There are many different styles and you can jump around and find what suits you most but you should have some idea before you hit record.

    2.0 Recording Software/Uploading
This is the part that took me the longest to figure out. Especially when trying to record with multiple people. I think I was the first to find Craig the discord recording bot. (Please note that I and others experienced a few recording issues with this in the past. Your milage may vary but it is worth knowing). I also love Anchor and I think I was the first on the scene with that as well. It is now owned by Spotify but it is a free way of uploading and cataloguing your podcasts. There are other ways such as soundcloud but I personally think that Anchor works best and is free.

    3.0 Hosts
So are you going to record this solo or are you going to record this as a group? Both have their advantages and disadvantages, I will discuss these further below. Remember that only 4 people can claim a podcast though.

    3.1 Solo
I 100% recommend as a solo podcast to do a semi-script, you can write out all the words you want to say if you want to, but at that point a media spot will be easier. I recommend setting out what you want to talk about and giving it a rough time frame that you think you can talk about the topic. Set your total estimated time to be 5 minutes longer than the minimum. That way you are less likely to run short and will need to improvise less. There is also the chance you go a bit longer and can get some multi claims organised.

    3.2 Duo
This is probably the format I recommend the most for people starting out. You always have someone to fill the blank space in if you forget what you are saying. My biggest suggestion for a duo podcast is speak to the person before hitting record. Make sure you jump on the call 5-10 minutes before you want to record and sort of get an idea on how you communicate with the other person. You build a slight rapport with them, and it makes the podcast run smoother. The more time you talk with someone the easier recording a podcast will be. Next have a list of topics you want to cover and pick one person to be essentially the host that topic, they should steer the conversation. Some topics work better if one person has all the knowledge of a topic and the other person is learning it for the first time, like the listeners are. Other topics it is good for both people to know the information. For example if you are doing a draft recap both hosts should be knowledgeable about the draft. If you are talking about Hosts 1 next great idea, if Host 2 knows next to nothing about it, they can ask the general question that the listeners will be thinking about and it will make for a more informative podcast. Also, I do recommend if you are feeling up to it, do a video chat, this way you have more cues from the other person on when you should talk and when you should let the other person talk.

    3.3 Three people and greater
This can be tricky, usually it is better for their to be two hosts and a guest but as seen in 3PPAO it can work with enough synergy, I think my points from above apply, but I would probably avoid having to many people. The video point above applies to having more people as well so you are not speaking over one another.

    4.0 Posting
If you want the most interaction with your audience here is a few tips when you post a podcast these all involve more work but you can see the results a bit more.

    4.1 Timeline
When you post your podcast have a rough timeline for what you talk about for example
    0:00 – 6:52 – Introduction
    6:53 – 12:47 – VHL News
    12:48 – 15:00 – Q&A
This allows people to listen to the part of your podcast they are interested in, this can get more people listening if they know that they only need to listen to 6 minutes instead of 15 minutes.

    4.2 Tagging
Tagging the people that you talk about is the best way to get involvement, just note that the longer your podcast you should probably give people a timeframe to listen to instead of your 90 minute podcast as not everyone has the time for it.

    4.3 Links
If you specifically talk about something from the forums or the portal remember that the listeners aren’t seeing what you are seeing, including links on the post can help them follow along if they are at a computer or phone.

    5.0 Other Pieces of Advice
So after my years of experience here are some ideas for you starting your podcast

    5.1 Question and Answer
Setting up a question thread is a great idea, you can get people asking you 6 questions and claiming it as their press conference. Not only does this help someone get TPE usually when you answer their questions that is 1 person who will listen to that podcast. It is also a nice easy way of getting topics to talk about, a good question can lead into a good topic of conversation.

    5.2 Keep it short
If you can do ones week worth of claims and record another one every week, this way people will know when to expect a podcast from you and people are more likely to listen if it is shorter. If you can’t record every week sometimes you can do 2 recordings in one day. But use the multiweek claims if you need them, you just might notice a slight decline in listeners or more of a delay before people interact with the podcast.

    6.0 Conclusion
There you have it Berocka’s guide to starting a podcast.

hello.. oh you know its just me here writing a media spot so i can get to 500 words yay! i am having fun on my team in Istanbul Red Wolves and have been scoring a ton of points, mostly asissts as a winger with good friend 30 tpe starter winger and center Jason Coiner who thankfully requested it, on the build side of things ive done something a little different this time with mostly spent tpe in puck handling and skating so they are my highest, so far im having a lot of fun with it but next up after the boring e (winky face) will be my faceoffs so i can be a true number one center the league needs woohoo.. been scared to put up certain skills and strength is one but at least it'll do more than the players that put points into penalty shot or checking, offensively at least and my skills have a nice split of five. right now i just cant wait to play for toronto legion and wish i had an option to this season.. guess next year will have to be BIG so i can pad my stats in a league where it means more than the others, tyler has to pass his father at the end of the day lmao.. Also looking forward to player with old teammates from past venture i have had on this site

looking on the team side or things because of course i am also a general manager of the ottawa lynx in the vhlm, so far in 6 seasons I've seen a far share of up and down perrormances and as the days grow longer every loss and win have different meaning to them, instead of being frustrated after a loss i see holes that need fixing so that's exciting sometimes.. When we win it isn't and hasnt been a huge celebration, now this season we look at the little things and try to bulld as a team. it has been pretty chill down here for three seasons now and since we actually had picks but the future looks bright and we are ready for the next chapter in our history.. one step at a time. HUGE blessing to have legenadary holographic Shawn Glade by my side now

forum life is ok lately, it beens better.. rory is pretty funny and keeps me going plus a few others, its been a little more active too, still with my schedule though nobody is usually online to talk and i dont seem to know how to be friendly xD On discord it's been different but theres a few to chat with, happily part of an sba team chat as we speak so right now I'm chilling overall in the end, just need to chill more than before or i get too into things and everything feels heightened, oh well another day down and media spot written have a good day vhl, thanks for reading. good job avalanche and also go lynx mother fing go! woooo

My last player, a hidden gem I would say retired 6 months ago and I've been away from the league ever since. I contemplated coming back a few times but then realised that I wouldn't have the time to earn a lot. While I can't guarantee to be a max earner (12tpe per week, with media spots), I can guarantee that I will remain active (at least earning every week, I don't know about maxing out). Before I go into the actual article, I have a few people to thank.
Looking at my notification inbox, I realised a couple of mentions from people I talked to a lot like fishy, Gus and Jeff aka Uncle Lidia. These people have been nothing but amazing when I was developing Xin.

@fishy - They always brought the fun in the Chicago LR. I also remember when they brought up the idea of having pronouns given in the server. They were the pioneer and I looked up to them for being vocal about this change. I'm hoping they're doing well and wish them nothing but the best in their career and life.

@Gustav - Always in my mind the degen horny police, chasing people off to horny jail. He has been extremely helpful and Xin even was Taro's teammate in multiple tourneys. Congratulations on the HOF man, so well deserved. Gustav and his build guides are a haven for all rookies so please, if u are new, reach out to him, he doesn't bite.

@JeffD - He gave me my first management job in the league and it was such an honour. I technically still have AGM rights, thanks to inactive Lidia but I have stepped down. He single-handedly brought Chicago to its glory days and I couldn't be more proud of him. Jeff kept me in check when I got mad at Xin for being horrible in the first couple of seasons but now looking back, I don't know why Xin won no awards and I am mad at that now.

@Beaviss - I know you're out here in the VHL, somewhere hidden perhaps but i appreciate all the degen streams we got going back then. It really helped me get through some horrible covid lockdown days so thanks a lot man. I hope you and your family is doing well and all the best to you in whatever you may be doing in life right now.

Now fast forward to my second player, Babay Shrimp. The name originated from a degen hour game night. Everyone loved it and someone wanted my recreate to have this name so here we are. I'm looking to make a winger that prioritises passing over scoring. That meta has always been pretty much frowned upon but I do wanna see how far it can take a player. This is gonna be a pretty fun experiment! Shrimp set up with a deadly scorer on the same line would make for some crazy goal scoring ability in the major leagues. Along with the passing, I want Shrimp to be fast on the ice since making him agile will hopefully make him pretty unique as a winger in the VHL/E/M. As always, since the dawn of the VHL, defence is a very important attribute. Moreover, with Shrimp being fast, he's able to get back to the D zone and take some shots on behalf of the goalie.

Well the league has changed a lot too. With the STHS attributes completely changed, there's gonna be some getting used to. As usual, the portal broke down (for me)...I can't spend my TPE and someone, SOMEONE, needs to fix this (this is now addressed tho). Besides the point, the change seemed to be for the better as I heard from the others so I am all for it.

Well, here's the end of my very impromptu media spot about me blabbing. Shrimp has gotten a ton of offers so it's time for him to think about which team he should sign with. For now, I'll see you in...whenever I can write one of these bad boys.

VHLM Power Rankings – Season Start

    1. Las Vegas Aces

Last years champs brought back 3 (now) capped Forwards, 2 veteran Defensemen and a capped Goalie. These players alone would probably put Vegas at the top of the power rankings, but adding in key new pieces like Larry Abass Jr and Reid Johnson help to solidify the depth that was needed to help this team maintain its championship contender status.

    2. Philadelphia Reapers

The Reapers bounce back from a down season last time around and put together a very solid roster to open S84. A really strong D pair, several strong forwards, and probably most importantly, a goaltender. Several really solid users on the team, lots of experience and the perennial Reapers flair. If the team stays active and earning, they should have no problem contending. But, they will only go as far as Evan Bihler will take them.

    3. Houston Bulls

AJ returns to the GM position and put together a great foundation for a contender right away. 2 capped Forwards, 2 strong Defensemen and most recently, a promising waiver goaltender. If I had written this a few days ago, they would have been much lower. Similar to the Reapers, look in net to see how far the team goes.

    4. Mexico City Kings

This team has the potential to be the best team in the league come the end of the season. New GM on the block, and lots of strong picks at the draft. Strong earning Forwards, a really exciting D core and not 1 but 2 exciting goaltenders. So long as the team hype doesn’t die down, they should be rocketing up the power rankings soon. Their development strategy had them picking lower TPE players who would earn well, so we shall see if that will pay off in the future.

    5. Mississauga Hounds

I think there are certainly some exciting pieces on this team, but the lack of depth outside of the top players concerns me long-term. The Hounds have been doing well on waivers, so look for them to grow the team that way and compensate for the lack of apparent depth. If the team stays active and earning, they should be a playoff team, otherwise look for them to tear down at the deadline and wait for a stronger draft class.

    6. Saskatoon Wild

An interesting approach for this season has the team loaded up on the back end but very shallow up front. They are hoping that their strong team defense can help them win tight games. The forwards they do have look to earn well, and should provide decent output. They also have a goaltender which is a huge plus this season. Maybe not a contender in my eyes, but could be an exciting seller by the deadline.

    7. Miami Marauders

This team would be much higher, but they have no goaltender. If they can land a goalie on waivers, and soon if possible, they have plenty of time to compete this season. Strong forwards and a serviceable D pairing could make this team a winner. At the very least they should have some awards candidates and some strange scoring games.

    8. San Diego Marlins

Maybe this is my bias showing, but I think what this team lacks in quantity, they more than make up in quality. If they can land some waiver help they could find themselves in a playoff position. Unfortunately, due to the lack of double shifting in the playoffs, there is no chance this team could contend. Lots of exciting pieces though, so keep an eye on them for awards nominations and potentially selling to contenders.

    9. Halifax 21st

In a very similar position to the Marlins, this team has some exciting pieces, but lacks any depth to compete later on. Also I question the morals of the team given the amount of Bezos content. This team could play upsetter a bit this season, but expect them to try to maximize their return for future seasons.

    10. Ottawa Lynx

I know as I write this that this placement is wrong. But I can’t really figure out who they are, and how they are better than the other teams on this list. I like their forward group, but that is literally all they are. Even if they keep all their players active and earning, I’m not sure how this team competes game to game. If they manage to pull in some exciting waivers they should be able to boost themselves up the rankings but for now they are too incomplete for me to really understand how successful they’ll be.
