I don’t think @Ricer13 will be too offended that I won’t be writing a whole appreciation piece about him for this Theme Week. I do give him an appropriate amount of praise day to day, so I feel as though it is fitting, I instead write about what I love about management.
As many of you may know I got started in management in S83, following my players incredible stint with San Diego. @Frank knew how eager I was to get into management and gave me all the tools to take the initiative and insert myself in all aspects of the team. He came to me for opinions on trades, and really relied on my judgement when it came to drafting our legendary S83 team. He often joked about how I was the “real GM of San Diego”, and although I think he was definitely selling himself short, I’m glad that became a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Since taking up the full-time reigns in S84 I’ve gotten to work with some truly amazing players, GMs and commissioners. Whether it be angrily watching @badcolethetitan and @Shindigs drafting one of my 20 “diamond in the rough” players, trying to comprehend 4 team trades with @nurx and @ShawnGlade, or just complaining about anything and everything with @Spartan and @Gustav , I truly think the VHLM has been heading to the best place it has every been, and I’m so happy to be a part of it.
I have absolutely 0 parental aspirations, but I do understand in the most minuscule way that parents must feel watching their kids go off and do great things, because I look around the league and see so many amazing members that I’ve gotten to work alongside over the last few seasons and I feel proud knowing that I’ve gotten to help them in some way, and knowing they’ve helped me too.
It has been awesome having @aimkin join the fold here in San Diego this season, taking on a lot of the little things that I’ve mostly been putting off or ignoring. They bring a great energy to the locker room and I can always count on them to want to learn more and I am really hoping they get to have a chance at being the big dog soon.
It is so rewarding to be a General Manager in this league, and although it is certainly a commitment, it has truly been one of the easiest things that I’ve taken on here. It feels right, and instead of pondering lines and trades and stalking prospects and the waiver wire for free (and feeling bad about not getting my schoolwork done) I now get to do it and actually have it be my job!
With my final 50 or so words I want to thank my players, especially the ones who come by to chat. I have the pleasure of being a part of 2 of the most active and exciting Locker Rooms in the league and I couldn’t do what I do day-to-day without the support of my players and teammates. They drive me to be better and for that I will always be grateful
