    1. Same thing as last season, good team defense and goaltending. We have the fewest goals against in the conference.

    3. It's really quite simple. If you never lose, you're probably going to win a lot of games.
    4. Every time he touches the puck there's a chance it's going to end up in the back of the net.
    5. See the above low effort meme for question 2.
    6. I like being involved in every aspect of play. Taking faceoffs, killing penalties, powerplays, tracking back all the way down-low in our own end, and playing all the way up to cycling behind the net in the offensive zone, centers really need to have a good 200 foot game.

I talk about how little I know about the VHL awards, why I don't care about individual awards all that much, and why none of my teammates are probably going to get any individual hardware this season.

In the off-season, the Calgary Wranglers and Helsinki Titans, two teams at different stages of competitiveness, exchanged some highly valuable assets. Calgary paid a fairly high price (a 1st round pick, a 2nd round pick, and a conditional 3rd round pick) for the privilege of acquiring elite winger Dan Dan. The offensively gifted Swede had put up a total of 170 points through his first three seasons in the league, all with Helsinki, and he showed right away why the Calgary management was so eager to acquire him. In the absence of Andrew Su, Calgary's top offensive weapons in Nathan Perry and Luke Thornton would have had to shoulder a heavy load, but Dan has exploded into the team, showing that he can produce anywhere in the top 6 with 10 goals and 13 assists for a team leading 23 points through 20 games, and while also having far fewer penalty than any of the players playing similar minutes. The Wranglers are not a high scoring team, but Dan Dan is proving to be a big part of their ability to play clean two-way hockey, stifle the opposition's offense, and make the most of their chances.     198 words

Another year has come and gone for the Calgary Wranglers, and what a season it's been!
The team made an excellent push this year making it into the playoffs, after a hard fought battle against the season champs of season 77, we made our stand in game 7. Unfortunately to everyone's dismay a series that we had fought our way through every single game came to an end. As we wrap up the season it's time again for our Calgary Wranglers Awards. I would like to thank everyone for their dedication to the organization, and the continued support from each of you. Without further ado lets get started.

    The Most Valuable Wrangler

This award is handed out to the player who is deemed to be valuable to his team and is voted on by the team. I would like to congratulate Nathan Perry on his dedication to the team and his ability to inspire confidence in those around him. Proving he can be a great leader on this team. @tinafrombobsburgers

    The Sheriffs Badge

The Sheriffs Badge is handed out to the player who demonstrates a solid leadership role for their team. This player has proven himself over and over again to be a proven leader in all areas of his game. This year I would like to congratulate Steve Eso on being awarded the Season 78 Sheriffs Badge. @Eso

    The Top Shelf Award

The Top Shelf Award is awarded to the Wrangler with the most goals at the end of the regular season. This year we had an absolute battle on our hands as both Nathan Perry and Luke Thornton absolutely lit up every goalie in their path. The Award goes to Luke Thornton who edged out Perry by 1 goal! Congratulations to both of you, but especially to you Luke Thornton for taking this trophy home! @Jtv123

    The Rybak Trophy

The Rybak is awarded to the player with the most points in the season, this Award was also a very close battle between 2 players. No surprises here as Luke Thornton, and Nathan Perry were on fire this season making it a very narrow Victory as Luke Thornton edged out Perry once again. Congratulations Luke Thornton on winning the Rybak Trophy this season! @Jtv123

    The Last Line

This Award is awarded to the top defensemen on the team. This year fighting to keep the goalies covered was Cowboy Prout who has been awarded this year. Prout led Defensemen on the Wranglers in points and finished top 3 in voting for the Jake Wylde trophy for the top Defensive Defensemen in the league! Prout is a very active member of the Wranglers locker room game in and game out. @Prout

    The Jubis Memorial Trophy

The Jubis Memorial Trophy is given to the player that is felt to have the most chance at league success, this doesn't only include how their player is going to do within the league, but also includes if they take on management roles with teams, are looking to earn more and are helping others when they can. The player who was seen as most fit for this award was none other than Nathan Perry. Nathan Perry has won this award the year previous as well. He is a highly active player in any locker room he is in, he was also the AGM for Miami Marauders up until recently. I am looking forward to seeing just where Nathan is going to end up over the next few seasons. Definitely a player to watch! Congratulations Nathan! @tinafrombobsburgers

    The Young Buck Award

The Young Buck Award is given to the player who is a prospect for the Wranglers who shows great promise for the game. This year the young buck to watch out for is Alex Johnston, Alex Johnston had a monster year in the minors. He played 52 games for Yukon his first year with 50 points in that first start. And then followed up his next year with 118 points in 72 games! This player has proven to be very active in the VHL and shows a tone of promise. He is involved in many facets of the VHL including VSN, he was a GM in the World Cup and is the AGM of the Philadelphia Reapers! We are excited to have such talent on the team! @Alex_J32

Every year as players are earning their TPE there are a few that stand out as elite at what they do I'm going to list the players who have excelled at Graphics, Media Spots and Podcasts.

    Top Graphic

This year Tallinder has been selected for top Graphic. Tallinder got back into graphics this year and really demonstrated an exceptional amount of progress bringing a new level to the work he has done over the past while. The graphic I chose to showcase Tallinder's ability really demonstrates just an exceptional level of detail as he captured the light contrast as it moved from light to dark across the scene. Really great work Tallinder. @Patrik Tallinder

    Top Media Spot

Top Media Spot this year goes to Eagles. Eagles has definitely been the most consistent doing Media Spots, and has a way of making the story capture the current mood of the season. His writing is engaging including perspectives of different players as well as being very thorough in his grammar. Eagles had a really good season this year coming just shy of his point record last season 51 points on the season but boasting an amazing plus/minus increase this season. Congratulations Eagles! @Greg_Di
    Top Podcast

Top Podcast goes to Phil the Rock Johnson, with Phil hosting the Rock Bottom Podcast. Phil has been a member of the league for many years now and has a long history of doing podcasts. He still does them to this day for his weekly tasks. He is a great locker room guy who has proven to be a team first player. Phil had a decent season with 43 points in 72 games which is his best season in the VHL currently! Congratulations Phil, keep up the good work! @Phil

    Hey thanks for the feedback.

Unfortunately I haven't brewed in a couple years. Ever since kid #2 came around I find I don't have the energy to maintain as many hobbies. I didn't name very many of my beers, except my favourite recipe of my own creation (which I ended up brewing 6-7 batches of) was called "Crestview Pale Ale" (the street I live on is Crestview Drive, and I jokingly referred to my garage as the Crestview Brewing Company).

Also, I had a 5-tap kegerator setup in my carport. I don't have a garage door or anything, so it none of it was behind locked doors. I also had a shelf with glasses and pitchers in my carport - any hobo could come by and help themselves whenever they wanted. My wife got came home from work one day, and a couple of my co-workers were in there having a pint. She asked where I was, and they said "Eso's still at work."

Well, with the excitement over the impending creation of the VHL Europe league, and this week's double media theme week being focused on the VHLE, I thought I'd take a stab at creating six ideas for teams for the new European league.   I've always felt that, in all the sim leagues, I'm in, I like it when the the teams are a little bit low-key and silly - sort of like Minor League Baseball in America, with teams like the Lansing Lugnuts, Akron Rubberducks, or Albuquerque Isotopes (which are in fact named after an episode of the "The Simpsons").   So much like my preference in sim leagues with North American cities I think it's fun to get away from the New York, Los Angeles, and Chicagos of the world, and instead put teams in Milwaukee, Tulsa, or Tucson, those sort of "second/third tier" cities. So for a European league, I want to stay away from London, Paris, Barcelona, Vienna, and instead focus on some smaller but still well known cities. It was tough to narrow this down to only 6 teams - I would have loved to have several divisions - maybe an Islanders division with four teams in England, Scotland, Ireland, and Iceland, a western division with teams in Spain or Portugal, France, Switzerland, and Italy, a central/east divsion with teams in Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, and Poland, and a Nordic division with teams in Sweden, Finland, Russia, and either Denmark or Latvia. But alas, I had to narrow it down a lot more than that, so here we go:   The Glasgow Golden Eagles Primary colour: gold Secondary colour: grey Hailing from Scotland, the Golden Eagles will likely have the hardest travel schedule of all the VHLE teams, although it is still fairly tame compared to North American travel distances. The golden eagle is the national bird of Scotland, and I wanted to choose a logo and theme that was not related in any way to crippling alcoholism. Runners up: Edinburgh Pipers, Manchester Weavers   Les Coqs de Nice Primary colour: maroon Secondary colour: blue Sorry-not-sorry, but I had to do this. As I was Google Maps'ing around France, going "Hmm, Toulouse? Marseille? Lyon? Monaco? How about Nice?" and then I looked up what the national animal of France and found that it was the the humble rooster. Put that at all together, and in English what do you get? The Nice Cocks. Runners up: Porto Pescadors, Monaco Millionaires   The Lucerne Hammers Primary colour: white Secondary colour: blue Named for a polearm used by Swiss soldiers a few hundred years ago, which I totally didn't learn about the existence of while playing Dungeons & Dragons as a kid. Runners up: Geneva Goats, Stuttgart Shepherds   The Pilsen Lagers Primary colour: green, like the hops grown in the region Secondary colour: gold, like the beer that they are used in Named for the style of beer that was popularized in this city that has now spread to become the most popular style of beer in the world. Runners up: Innsbruck Olympians, Krakow Coal-Miners   The Sarajevo Roses Primary colour: Grey Secondary colour: Red The most "political" of all these teams, that Sarajevo roses are a type of memorial in that city that commemorates the lives of those lost in the Bosnian War when Sarajevo was shelled. Runners up: Zagreb Martens, Kiev Nightingales   The Tallinn Wolves Primary colour: Purple Secondary colour: Black I am almost went with Eagles/Falcons/Hawks/Raptors something like that to go with the English homonym Tallinn/talon, but the wolf is the national animal of Estonia and I also think that a wolf's head logo on purple with black trim would look kind of badass. Runners up: Kaliningrad Falcons, Bergen Sailors   Well, there you have it. I'm excited to see what locations, branding, logos, and colour schemes of the actual VHL Europe teams are once they are unveiled, because I am almost certain that they will be better than the things I've come up with.   Like 675-ish words
