The VHL at 15: 15 Memorable Members
fromtheinside replied to animal74's topic in Archived Media Spots
ayyy Im humbled to be on this list Animal! That team on Malmo in S79 was so special, great group of people we had that year. I hope you're doing well buddy, all the best. -
1. if hockey didn't exist, what other sport would you enjoy? Well I actually am a fan of many sports. I'd say baseball is my next biggest love. Go Jays. But I also am an fan of basketball, and most recently cricket. I watch alot of sports! 2. What franchises are the most prestigious in the VHL? As much as I hate to say it, the Bears have probably earned that title. There's a few teams that have pretty rich history though for sure. 3. What aspect of hockey is crucial to a team, defense or offense? It's all relative, but the old saying goes, defense wins championships, and I believe that. And you need defense from everyone, forwards too. Look at the NHL playoffs and how different the game gets. Time and space are drastically reduced because all the teams clamp down and start playing playoff level defense. 4. Do you believe that prehistoric dinosaurs existed? Yeah I think it's entirely possible. There seems to be evidence that supports it so yeah. 5. Baby Bob is third for the most goals this season. What's the best attribute in his build? I can't pick just one, but he has the staples... scoring, defense, puck-handling and skating. He's having a heck of a year and I am real glad he's on the team! 6. Since it's VHL's birthday, what is your favorite VHL moment? There are a bunch.. in terms of actual sim hockey I thought the Marauders epic Founder's Cup win in my first ever season was a pretty cool story even though I wasn't on the team. They scooped up some god tier first gens just before the end of the season, snuck into the playoffs as an 8 seed and won it all. Also winning the cup in Malmo was a great experience for me. Will always have a special place in my heart for the homies from Malmo.

Chicago Phoenix fans have lots to be excited for these days. Over the past two and a half seasons, the franchise has gone through all the stages of the rebuilding process. Season 82 the team was at the lowest of lows. The team that was once a contender had gone into a full blown rebuild and during that season, the players, coaches and fanbase all felt the repercussions of that. Those years are never fun. But the silver lining was that they enlisted two of the best young prospects in VHL when they drafted The Board Game Clue on Skates, and then traded for Bo Johansson. But those guys were not quite ready for the big leagues at that point. After the long and painful season in 82, the Phoenix secured the number one pick in the S83 VHL Entry Draft and took Scotty Sundin to help supplement their future core moving forward. They also nabbed Seymour Butts. In Season 83 all four of these young guns debuted and Chicago's young nucleus was on full display. Though it was clearly an unfinished and unpolished product, the hope had been restored in the fanbase. The team really overachieved all things considered. They managed to sneak into the Wild-Card playoff round and even pulled off the upset, but then they ran into the eventual champs in the Seattle Bears in the Conference Semi-Finals. Despite being eliminated, the year was looked at as a huge net positive, and the team would look to carry that momentum into Season 84. This past offseason saw Chicago management be aggressive in bolstering the roster. They found a reliable trade partner in Prague, who was coincidentally looking to offload talent to start their own rebuild. The Phoenix landed the two Bobs (Bob Beach and Baby Bob), and they also secured their netminder in Red Gaming. Things were definitely taking shape and Chicago looked to be a lock to make the playoffs for a second straight year. And as the season got rolling, the Phoenix proved their were going to be a legit team this season. That brings us to this week. With the trade deadline just hours away, Chicago has went out and landed a top tier defenseman to help their back end. The deal saw Chicago deal a package of picks to the Vancouver Wolves for Aurelien Moreau. Moreau is a veteran defender in this league who has already announced he will be retiring come seasons end. He really will help bolster the blueline of the Phoenix, which admittedly lacked some depth. This trade really shows that Chicago is all-in for this season. While the future still will be burning bright for many seasons to come in Chicago, to go out and pick up a rental player really shows the confidence the management team has in this roster for Season 84. They started off at a crawl when the rebuild started. Then as they drafted elite prospects they got on their feet and walked. Last season they showed they could compete once again and were running. But this season, with these moves, the Phoenix are in a full sprint towards the Cup, and it's an exhilarating time to be a fan of the franchise!

Game Review Game 181 Toronto vs New York After breaking news earlier this weekend of the regime change in New York, the Americans players came out for this contest versus Toronto with a renewed sense of urgency. Lochlan Chisolm would open the scoring for the Americans with a buzzer beater at the end of the first period. With less than two seconds left, Chisolm took a last ditch-effort blast from the point to beat the Legion netminder. The powerplay marker gave New York the lead heading into intermission, and it proved to be a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Sven Eightnine doubled their lead with another last-minute goal at the end of the second period to make it 2-0. Halfway through the third, the Americans' power play would strike again as Pierre Emile Bouchard netted his fifth othe season. Legion start Matty Fire would answer with a late marker, but it wouldn't be enough as New York downed the Legion by a final score of 3-1.

Earlier this week @MexicanCow123 announced he was stepping down as the GM of the New York Americans, and seemingly taking a major step out of the VHL community as a whole. He cited community toxicity as the major reason he's taking his leave. I've known Cow for a couple years now, and he is by far the person I am closest with in the entire community. I feel like I know him on a more personal level than most. While I would argue that Cow doesn't have very "thick skin" sometimes, and I'd also argue that part of him just has lost interest in VHL and he was just looking for a reason to validate leaving. BUT, with that being said, I do think he has a point. There's a ton of toxicity in the community. For me personally, there's a small handful of people I enjoy bantering with, but outside of that, I don't find myself as enticed to mingle with the community as much as I used to when I first got into the league. I am pretty fortunate to have my player on a great team in the VHL with people that are all very enjoyable, so that's a blessing in disguise for me. But, others aren't as lucky I suppose. People clown on Cow, and more specifically the New York American franchise for it's longtime lack of success. While it's true NYA has been subpar for quite sometime, I don't think Cow deserves much of that blame, and I think he did his best to turn it around. Here's hoping Fresco can pick up where Cow left off and get the Americans to a better place. It's weird because despite their record this season, I feel like they were coming along quite well as of late. Cow I'm not sure exactly to what extent you are stepping back from the community, but just know you were a generally well-liked and important fixture in the community. As you continue to mature, try not letting petty and small things get to you. All the best bud.

1. The Chicago Phoenix is off to a 6-3-1 start in the North American Conference. Do you think we can compete for the top seed in the conference? We are off to a great start. Love to see the team performing well. I think the top seed will be a tough goal, but not impossible. Our top line has been unreal so it's definitely possible. 2. How are you enjoying the fourth of July? Well it's not too special for me since I am from Canada, but there IS some afternoon baseball on today because of Independence Day so that's always good. 3. Do you believe the Colorado Avalanche can repeat next season? I think they will still be pretty good, so it's possible, but I wouldn't say it is likely. It's a hard trophy to win once nevermind back-to-back. 4. Do you believe your player deserves captain? Why or why not? Currently I am an alternate, and I am totally fine with that. We have a great leadership core in Chicago and I think it work's pretty well as is. 5. What are the traits of a good captain? Bringing positive vibes and also being a good communicator. On top of that, just generally being a good leader is also a good trait. 6. Can we be considered championship contenders this season? Why or why not? I think we can hang with pretty much any team this season, I wouldn't say we are a championship favourite currently, but we could definitely be a dark horse type of team come playoffs.

honoured to be part of the team's captaincy! Let's keep that momentum rolling!

Alright I have royally fucked this up. While entering the picks, I relaized that @ROOKIE745 was missing a player. Going back through the picks, I discovered it was ME of all people who skipped over him. I tagged MMFLEX instead of Rookie, and he got skipped over. Rookie I will DM you on Discord but for transparency sake, Ill put it here too. The best I can offer you immediately is to just pick one more time right now before I make my pick. IF you want, I think I could message Spartan and we could revert all the picks if you really want to. It's up to you. I am very sorry, it was a brain fart. Sorry to everyone for holding up the draft too, I've done a ton of these before, I just messed up

F- Baby Bob @MMFLEX

@KaleebtheMighty gets skipped here but he is on a back to back so he has 12 more hours to make both his picks before I need to take any action.

I'm not going to post a giant rebuttal, but when I saw this thread existed, I thought "oh, that's gonna be a shitshow". And it was. You can be angry and spiteful towards me all you want, I don't really care. My point is, there's a lot of younger audiences as well as ignorant audiences that are always going to be present for these threads and things will always dissolve into a gong show. I'm not looking for you to regret anything, but there's a reason why certain policies were put into place on the Discord, it doesn't seem like a stretch that the same policies should be consistent here on the forums also.

For some it may feel like ages, ago , but for the Chicago Phoenix, their conference semi-final loss still feels like an open wound. If there was any solace in their defeat, it was that the Seattle Bears did in fact go on to capture the the league title. So if you are a glass-half-full kind of person, there's a silver lining in knowing that the club lost to the absolute best the league had to offer. And furthermore, the Phoenix had outperformed their expectations by leaps and bounds. The team was coming off of one of the worst seasons in franchise history, but its young crop of rookie talent arrived and delivered a season full of memories and optimism for the future. As a token of the season's success, defenseman Bo Johansson was voted as rookie of the year which is a nice feather in his cap to start his career. Now the focus shifts to this upcoming season, and fans got their first glimpse of club this week when training camp opened. In the offseason, the Phoenix made a seismic acquisition by trading their first round pick in next year's draft to Prague in exchange for veteran winger Big Bob. Bob will bring some much needed depth up front to Chicago's top-six. With this addition, Chicago should be able to roll two legitimately dangerous scoring lines for opposing teams to have to deal with this season. The other area of need was goaltending, as the spot became open this offseason. As of earlier this week though, Chicago and Prague got together once again and Prague secured a Season 86 second round pick in exchange for Red Gaming. Red Gaming should stabilize the team between the pipes for the time being. The team has looked sharped during their intra-squad scrimmages and drills thus far. The one problem with the great season they had last year was that now their are definitely higher expectations going forward. While the Phoenix are definitely trending upwards and in the right direction, it's important to note that the team is still not fully complete quite yet. The team lacks some depth that is needed to set them apart from the other bottom-to-mid tier teams in the league. While the European Conference still is largely considered the dominant of the two conferences, some teams in North America continue to make strides as well. Both Vancouver and Los Angeles will be better this season as they continue to rebuild after both being dominant teams for quite a long stretch previously. I could see either of them playing the "Chicago" role this season and potentially surprise some people. Meanwhile, the New York Americans continue to make strides to make their team better as well. We are only about a week and a half out from puck drop on the new season though, so there's still lots of time to get your tickets for the home opener! We are certainly going to be in store for another exciting season of Chicago Phoenix hockey! See you at the arena!

nicely done Shindigs, and congrats to Lamber, a great career for Dakota!

I get what you are saying, but I disagree. This is all coming from a court decision which was overturned, and is deeply routed in politics. That's not to say it isn't a human rights issue too, but it's both. And any time politics is involved, things get nasty.
-
ok thanks for clarification. I know this probably won't be met with agreement, but maybe it's time we shut down political-related talk on the forums too. There's a ton of people who can't act like normal human beings on the forums and that leads to these kind of trainwreck threads. I totally get fishy wanting to express their opinions and feelings, but fishy knows enough people in the community that they could just do that privately on Discord with people and avoid the BS.

Genuine question. Is this area of the forums moderated with a different set of rules from the rest of the forums/discord or is this considered like a thunderdome type of area?
