We, the Ice Dogs/Lynx of Ottawa, would like to honor the service and dedication displayed by several of our former players. These men have shown extreme dedication to this team, and for that we thank them.
Lars was the first Ice Dogs GM after the VHLM remodeling in S20. As a GM, he went on to win two Founder's Cups in S21 and S23. Lars also played defense for the S21 team. During this time Lars set a franchise record for most points from a defenseman. Remaining the Ice Dogs GM until the end of Season 25, when he stepped down to take over as Calgary GM, Lars did a fantastic job creating a legacy for this team. For his fantastic play on the ice, and seasons of service off the ice, I'd like to officially retire the number 77 from the Ottawa Ice Dogs, in honour of Lars Intranquilo.
Mitch Higgins-60
Drafted in S22, Mitch Higgins was a brand new member on a truly terrible team. As the only active member in the LR, most would go inactive due to boredom. Higgins was different. He sat patiently by while Ottawa acquired S23 draft picks. The following season, with a team that's numbers rivaled the S26 J20, Higgins captained the Ice Dogs to victory. During this time Higgins was rewarded with four major VHLM awards, and was able to break the franchise record previously set by Intranquilo, most points by a defenseman. For his patience in S22, and fantastic play in S23, I'd like to officially retire number 60 from the Ottawa Ice Dogs, in honour of Mitch Higgins.
Brennan McQueen-95
McQueen was drafted with the 16th overall pick in the S34 VHLM Dispersal Draft. As the only active member of the team for the entire season, McQueen posted a respectable 83 points and 188 hits during the regular season to go along with his 6 points and 14 hits in 4 playoff games. In Season 35, Brennan was voted captain by his peers and helped lead the Lynx to their first Founder’s Cup victory since Season 23 with his excellent two-way play. While his 84 points were only a minimal increase from the previous season, McQueen’s 410 hits are one of the highest in modern VHLM history. After his time in Ottawa, McQueen would move on to the Riga Reign of the VHL, where he was once again voted captain. It is for his outstanding work ethic and dedication to the Ottawa Lynx organization that I’d like to officially retire McQueen’s number 95.
WOO! Nice work everyone, the fact that we've overcome this big of a hurdle is a testament to our strength as a league. Mad props to all of the guys who put in countless hours of hardwork to save our amazing league. Excellent job everyone!
