Better yet: stop segregating the league by calling them clickers and acting as if they are second class. Welfare and PF have existed for a decade, you know what we used to call them? Members. I get it, from a GM perspective they aren’t going to get as good as quickly as a max earner but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be bothered with.
 
I know this is gonna be a bit “old man yells at cloud” but back in the day welfare earners were looked at as good draft steals, not something to be ignored. You pick one up in a later round knowing their TPE may be lower but if you can teach them the ways of the league you can make a max earner out of someone that other GM’s just overlooked. I’m not sure when that mindset changed and became “they aren’t worth even considering" but I’m guessing sometime in the 70’s when we had expanded enough that depth died in favour of 6-4-1 exclusively again.
 
Ultimately I think the portal is a double edged sword for this, and I’m not exclusively blaming it at all just mentioning it. On the one hand it makes the league easy and accessible to more people and automates repetitive tasks we normally would have had to manually do. On the other hand though it sequesters people away easier, clicking twice and never seeing anyone else. Back in the day when welfare or even updates were on the forum it was much more likely that people would do other things while they were here collecting their welfare and updating their player. They were already here after all so why not chat a bit. In the same vein other people would see their activity, however minimal, and communicate with them. Being able to hide away on the portal and, at best, in a discord LR keeps people from integrating into the larger community.
 
Obviously I’m not suggesting we drop the portal, it’s benefits far outweigh its drawbacks, but we need to do a better job of seeking out those who do not normally join the greater community rather than simply segregating them off as “those clickers we don’t care about”. A member is a member, regardless of how much they earn, and they deserve to receive the same respect as a max earner would.

We have now received the final auction item donation and have made the donations to SickKids and St. Jude. When accounting for the VHL's $1000 donation match our total to be split between the two charities is a staggering $4,762.73!

Welcome to the new season of VHFL! Below is the randomly assigned draft order for your group. 
 
The draft is conducted in a snake order, meaning that each round goes in reverse order of the last. There is a time limit of 12 hours per pick. If the person ahead of you has not picked in their 12-hour slot, you may make your selection, and they can make up their pick anytime after the skip. If a member misses two picks without communicating to me or the GM - not necessarily consecutive, they will be disqualified and the team will be drafted by me or a filler I appoint. If someone has two picks in a row and fails to do the first one before 12 hours pass, tag them and give them another 12 hours for the second pick in a row. Once you have made your selection, tag the person following you. 
 
Group Manager: It is your responsibility to make sure that picks are being made within 12 hours, and if not, that the clock keeps going for the next pick. Please also have a complete roster within the first few posts of the thread - this saves me time later so that you get your results faster! Please also be sure of each player’s position, and that they are not retired nor in the VHLM before adding them to your roster! When maintaining the updated roster, please copy the roster template below, exactly how it is. Make sure to also spell player names properly when updating your group. Do NOT copy the roster for every single pick.

But seriously, I would genuinely would like someone to explain to me why the cap hasn't been raised with the nine season careers inflating TPE totals. I just can't grasp the logic, unless it was just analysis paralysis that prevented it.
 
Flexibility for GMs is good! Options for players being able to move where they wish is good! A super tight system where literally 80% of the league is right against the cap and it all comes down to who can manipulate STHS the best isn't great! You don't want a completely open system that allows for super teams, but the mix right now seems very far to the other end.

After the chapters of Baby Bob’s life, the older brother of Bobby Bob, I am proud to announce that I am back with a new series: « The Bobs legacy, the sequel». In this series, just like the previous one, we will talk about Bobby Bob and his career. In this first episode, we will talk about the current off-season, his selection to play with team Canada in the WJC, his journey with team Clue in the JST and his S87 VHLM dispersal draft. 
 
First, Bobby Bob made the cut and the GM of team Canada junior, @Dom, chose him to be the last defensemen of the team. Bobby was not only the youngest player of the team, but he was also the youngest of all the tournament. Despite being the youngest, Bob had a really good tournament. Indeed, he had 8 assists in 10 games and a differential plus/minus of +5. Bobby added 28 hits and 22 shots blocked. Team Canada had a really good round robin, finishing first with a record of 6 wins and 2 losses in 8 games. In the playoffs, team Canada had to wait for team Asia and team World to play their wildcard game. Team World won the game, but they could not defeat team Canada in the semi-final, who won by the score of 3-1. In the final, team Canada was facing team Europe, but they lost 4-3 and went home with a silver medal. 
 
Second, Team Clue and @Emperor_Fun, drafted Bobby Bob 19th overall in the draft of the Junior Showcase Tournament. Yesterday the regular season ended, and Team Clue finished 2nd in the standings. They had a record of 18 wins, 8 losses and 4 losses in overtime for a total of 40 points in 30 games and only two points behind the Royals. Bob had a really good regular season, finishing with 6 goals and 22 assists for a total of 28 points in 30 games. His big brother Baby Bob did not play in this tournament, so Bobby is the first member of the family to play in the JST. 
 
Finally, earlier this week was the S87 VHLM dispersal draft and Bobby Bob was one of the biggest prospects and he was projected to get drafted in the top 10 and maybe even in the top 5. Bobby bob ended up being drafted by the Houston Bulls with their 5th overall pick. When Bobby Bob went on the stage, he looked really proud, and he had a look that was saying everything. He wants to win with this team, and he is going to do everything he can to achieve that. Houston’s draft went really well, and the team is expected to have a complete team and a stacked one. Indeed, the team has only one goal and this goal is to win the cup at the end of the season. This offseason was and is going to be a big one for the beginning of Bobby Bob’s career.

With the recent acquisition of Matty Fire, the Nighthawks now have a new popular line among the fans. It has been trending all over the web, the fans want to see the Fire - Molotov - Burns line, popularly named the pyromaniac line. Will this happen though? If we are being realistic, the coach will prioritize the line chemistry over some name combination just for the joke but it is also not impossible to see it. In any case, we do need a solid graphic for that line. See you next week with an other completely dumb idea of an article.
